I would drive to Duluth (and have driven to Duluth) just to go to Uncle Loui's Cafe. Don't let the line out the door scare you off because this place is worth it! Not only do you get fantastic servers, but fantastic food at a fantastic price all in a cute little place that feels like home. I've been here on multiple occasions and I've never been disappointed with the food or the amount of it. They definitely do not let you leave hungry. I recommend their stuffed French toast or breakfast potatoes. I also remember having really good hot chocolate one time so try that as well! The servers are also awesome. They are in a hurry because the place is always busy but they're friendly and attentive to the needs of their guests. I've never had a bad experience. I could go on all day about Uncle Loui's but the truth is you have to try it yourself to understand. It has to be the most popular breakfast/brunch spot in Duluth. We came here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. It was pretty busy but quick service. I had the green eggs and ham, eggs, mozzarella cheese, pesto, ham, and tomatoes. It was a great combo. My husband had the gryo omlette and liked it too. We got a mickey mouse chocolate chip pancake for our kid, he just aye the bacon but the other kid aye it and liked it. Super cute diner. The coffee is amazing, not the standard diner coffee. Theirs is smooth and tasty. Good food, I'm vegan and had the hash brown deluxe and it was everything I wanted. They came and topped off our coffee so it was always hot. Had us in and out in 30 min, which was perfect because we had an excursion to get to. Being from the area, I'm a little ashamed to say I'd never been here before, and it definitely didn't disappoint. A no-frills cafe, with good, hearty food at a decent price. I went with my favorite, biscuits and gravy and these biscuits were outstanding. Buttery, flaky and cooked perfectly. The sausage gravy was just salty enough with a rich flavor. The eggs were scrambled nicely and a side of potatoes to round it out. I wish I would have thought to put cheese on those, however. Service was fine; everyone seemed to work together as a team. Food took a long time to come out though. Like 30 minutes. A solid four-star experience. I only give out fives when I'm completely wowed. read more

Great place to eat. Breakfast and lunch all day. If it looks full from the outside, there's a big old backside area to eat at as well. Very big portions and affordable price point. The French Toast at Uncle Loui's is easily some of the best I've ever had. Fast service, & friendly servers. I dined there back to back mornings. The first morning, I had 20 slices of French Toast. The following morning, I had their taco omelette. It came with a side of sour cream & salsa, your choice of potato, and a pancake of piece of French toast. The hash browns were tasty. I would've preferred them to be more crispy. However, I understand the time constraint when trying to feed tons of hungry customers, but also trying to get the hash browns to a perfect golden crisp. Soooooooo darn good for brunch! No wait at all for us. We were able to find a booth right away. I had the vegetable omelette (delicious) with a pancake while my boyfriend had the two eggs, any style. Was excited to try this place after finding it on Yelp but was a huge disappointment. It was busy but we got a table and server stopped by right away. Placed our order, we both ordered French toast and bacon (absolutely nothing difficult). After a while we noticed a couple of tables that came in after us were receiving their food. Then two more tables that came in quite some time after us received theirs. Stopped the server and asked about it, she mumbled she would check. Finally she came back with our order. Lots of hype, but didn't deliver. I shoulda went to Micky D's. It's Sunday, I'm slightly hungover, and Uncle Loui's has got some great reviews. It's not in the busiest area of Duluth, and you can find it easily by the line out of the door. Plenty of parking on the street, and there's a parking lot across the street. There's no waiting list, so if you see people waiting outside, get behind them. The line moved fairly quickly, maybe a 20 minute wait with 15 people ahead of my group of four. The inside seemed to have ample seating, sort of a divey spot. I had coffee to start, it was more like coffee flavored water. The worst cup of Joe I've ever had. Food took 50 minutes after ordering. I almost started eating the napkins. I had the gyro scrambler with a pancake. The scrambler was not good at all. My hash browns were half crispy on one side of the plate, soggy on the other. I had maybe five small pieces of meat. Poached eggs were made well though. The pancake was great, crunchy edges, fluffy inside, but all three syrup options were thin and watered down. I snuck a bite of country fried steak with gravy and stuffed French toast. These dishes were certainly better than mine, but nothing to write home about. Don't expect the friendliest service, but she was efficient. I won't be back. There are lots of other breakfast options around. read more

If you are not white, you will be treated completely different. I urge the owner of the restaurant that they should change this behavior. The worst customer service ever. Our server, who seems to be in her 60's, seems to be racist, rude, and treated us with a bad attitude as if she does not like visitors from out of town who are not white. She came to the table with anger and hateful eyes on us since we were the only Hispanic-Asian customer. Unlike the table next to us, she greeted and treated them with nice and warm hospitality due to the fact that those people are local and white. When asking question about the food, she answered with anger. After putting the food down with anger expression, she disappeared and never came back to the table at all. Furthermore, there is no safety precautions regarding Covid19 at this restaurant. There is no 6 feet apart. Customers are told to seat at their own risk. The cleaning procedure was so sloppy, only wipe tables, not chairs. If you are thinking of eating here, please re-think and go eat at some other breakfast restaurants in Duluth which you definitely will receive good customer service, have much better experience and feel safe from Covid. read more

This place came at the recommendation of the hotel I was staying at while there for work. It also happened to be the same day as the Grandma's Marathon. So it turned out, it was the only day of the year there wasn't a line out the door for Loui's. I go the best seat in the house and at the recommendation of the waitress to the Eggs Theodora and they were spectacular. It was never better that it was only $10!! If in Duluth, eat here! read more

If you're looking for a great breakfast or brunch place in Duluth this is the spot! There's a parking lot across the street so roll on over anytime. We arrived around 1130 on a Saturday and there was a wait for the table but they have a nice coffee bar area which also serves food. We were already hungry so we decided to skip the wait and sit at the bar. Our server was very friendly and quick to take our order. Let me just say the plates are huge!! It's amazing. If you get a pancake for a side it's bigger than the plate. It can be hard to find places that truly offer lots of food for a good price. Their coffee is also very good and they had multiple options for cream and sugar/sweeteners. I highly recommend this place the next time you are in Duluth! read more

This is a great spot in Duluth for a diner style breakfast and lunch. They serve lunch all day as well - which works for me because I think lunch is more delicious than breakfast. I had the gyro as it was listed as the house specialty. It was pretty good overall with lots of lamb meat and a good sauce. The inside has some small booths and counter service. The service is fast and seating is first come first served. Places like this deserve your support! Many of the reviews bring up two big things... Value and Quality. This place is definitely about getting the biggest bang for the buck. The quality is the standard American diner fare. Ordered three meals and it was still under $40 with a good tip! Parking was the most difficult thing about the visit. If you are from out of town, please bring quarters for parking. I haven't used quarters in a long time so I had to figure out where to park and then went to a meter outside that wasn't working. Did I mention the portions were large? Pancakes were as large as the plates. There was a depth to the flavor of the pancakes which was more than just flour. There was 3 kinds of syrup :Maple, Cinnamon and blueberry I got the steak and eggs, country fried steak and eggs as well as the omelet. No I didn't eat this all by myself. I always eat breakfast here when in town! (I cannot believe I have never written a review?!) The waitress was at our table immediately taking drink orders. She was so sweet brought the kids some color sheets. After our food order was taken, someone dropped the ball. It was 30 min later and everyone around us seemed to be getting their food and leaving. (tables turn quick to kindly let the next guy eat). The waitress blamed the cook, but I think she did not put the order in at all. We felt bad we were holding up 2 tables and the kids were hangry!!
