The hot sauce and chips were decent...members of our party had varying opinions--some liked it and others were less impressed. The service was decent as there weren't many tables BUT our server messed up 4 out of 10 orders. And added 18% gratuity to our checks even though the orders were WRONG! Food was ehhh. I go out of my way to emphasize the good since I believe most establishments want to do right by their customers. That being said I wouldn't recommend going to Uncle Julio's. Lets start with the big one - its understandable to be busy however your restrooms cleanliness is a HUGE reflection of the quality of the place. The bathroom was disgusting - I am sure you can imagine what a disgusting restroom would look like so I won't go into detail. Quality of the service was ok as far as our server went - the guy that brought out the food basically threw down our plates on the table and didn't care whose order belonged to who. Quality of the food was ok - the price for the food didn't merit the experience so there's no value provided. Stopped in here from out of town and the service was horrible. Food was mediocre but pricey. Our experience was not good and we won't return. Never got one refill on drinks or basket of chips and after we ordered we never saw our waitress until she came by after we were done waiting for 10 mins. Stopped here with sister while out in the Tomball area. So glad we stopped. The menu is huge. We got the the Blanco Queso and it was delicious. We both got Bacon wrapped Shrimp which was cooked perfectly. Beans and Rice are soooo good. Definitely will be back. read more

My Wife and I were really looking forward to eating at Uncle Julios for Valentines. We were disappointed with the chips; they seemed old and greasy and left a film of grease on the roof of our mouths. My Wife ordered the Veggie Fajitas. When they came the portion was very small, and we figured it was off the lunch menu. However, when we paid the bill, they charged over $20 for the meal. My Tamales were good, but just good; not the quality we are used to at Uncle Julios. We waited longer to get the bill than we waited for our food. The waitress came by one time while we were eating, and that was the last time we saw her. We arrived right after they opened so they were not that busy. I finally asked another waitress to hunt our down so we could pay for the bill and get a coke to try and wash the grease off the roof of our mouths from the chips. read more

Stopped by for lunch with my son. We were the first folks in the restaurant as we were in line when they opened. I did do my research ahead of time so I was aware of the low rating before stepping foot in Uncle Julio's, but I thought I'd give them a try anyway. We ordered the kids quesadilla along with the filet mignon fajitas. From a quesadilla perspective, that is difficult to mess up. My son said it tasted fine. The fajitas -- I was expecting a slightly elevated experience given the price point and the name filet mignon. The fajita were okay to me - not great - but okay. The consistency was good, but the flavor left me desiring something else that was missing. From a service perspective, this was the bummer. The waitress assigned to my table did not check on us frequently. I saw her standing near the kitchen a lot so I know she wasn't stretched thin. I also asked for stuff that she forgot about. So, Uncle Julio's -- it looks like you will be that uncle that I do not visit often. The culmination of price point vs experience has other places higher on my list. read more

Had a family dinner here yesterday (Cinco de Mayo) with about 14 family members. Firstly. Food wasn't impressive at all for the price. Probably the most sub-par Tex mex I've ever had. The main thing for my was the guacamole had no seasoning, the flours to my tacos were super chewy and in my opinion kind of stale. Nobody in my party was satisfied with their food but one person. They also charged me $2 for a side of the most bland sour cream that I've ever had. Also, none of us enjoyed our margaritas, they were also overpriced and some of us couldn't taste the alcohol. Drinks were small and unfulfilling. My nephew was given a $4 lemonade with more ice than anything, and he was only allowed one refill for $1, which made no sense. Food and drinks were way too overpriced for what you get. I also felt that our waitress was kind of rude. I also had an incident here where I lost my wallet which had my car key in it. Yesterday was a very busy day for this restaurant given the holiday, but I felt the staff were generally not concerned, and kept giving me the run around, as if this kind of thing happens often (which I'm sure it does) but I felt they could've atleast been a little bit more helpful in the situation. They just kept saying no one turned it in and went about their business. Luckily I found it in the parking lot which I haven no idea how it got there but I am fortunate. To sum it all up I personally do not recommend this place and I think they should improve operations, customer service, food quality, and staff. read more

I am giving a 3 * rating based on food related reasons soley, and not based on service which was 5* plus and because the restaurant itself is very nicely decorated, huge, although I was uncomfortably freezing inside, however I am giving a 5* plus rating because of how amazing our really large group was served and on how our main waitress staff was with our large party and because she graciously offered, on her own, to take a family photo of us outside by the water. I was so happy she did so because my son who is in the military, was on his way with his family to their next posting for three years in El Paso and had several family members including his father, who it may be the last he will see again for health reasons. Staff was exceptional, as was service. Food however, was a different subject. Yes, they do have from scratch tortillas...hubs (Hispanic) would not have been happy otherwise. I am going to review our own meal, and dessert we shared with all. Started with chips and salsa. Let's say, I didn't fill up on them. Neither did hubs, but he said salsa was good. Hubs had three tacos of some sort and I didn't take pics of food, only family this time, but he said his were ok, rice and beans just ok, I had two cheese enchiladas which had some sort of semi soft really yellow cheese in them and gravy over them. The enchiladas were served semi cold. I think they could have been so much better with a melted cheese. I didn't eat but one because I don't care for cold enchiladas. For dessert, we ordered the Chocolate Pinata. The children had such a great time with that. The churros tasted very greasy, I didn't get any chocolatey filled piece that some did, but did a piece of the actual pinata chocolate (good), and hubs got a Strawberry or two and they huge and were good. The food was very good but not worth the amount paid or the time waiting. Maybe because it was the Saturday before Mother's Day but we waited 30mins for our table instead of the 20mins that was given to us. Then we waited for probably my at least 25+ mins for our food. We had a very nice waiter, thankfully. I think what bothered me the most was not getting hot tortillas when we asked and our waters not getting refilled. Our fajita combo plate was very little food compared to the $25 we paid for. But the food was tasty. Their tortillas and chips are delicious, I just wish they made their own corn tortillas as well. Nice place and pretty affordable. Food is good and the menu is more diverse than most Mexican places.

1. Service - I can't recall the name of our waitress. But she was friendly, nice, and top notch. She anticipated what we may needed considering we had a toddler with us. We made a spill, and she even had a nice attitude about it. If I ever go back, I would like to request for her as our server again. 2. Price - $20 for a Fajita dinner for two is inexpensive. 3. Ambiance - not sure what it's like during the day, but in the evening time, the place was pretty dark. It's a huge restaurant, so without the hostess, you can easily get lost. Pretty romantic feel. Great place for dinner with friends, family, or even a date. Dress code here is casual. 4. Food - My family and I decided to come here not thinking too much about the number of stars. We saw the ratings on Yelp, but still decided to try it out. It was surprisingly delicious! We ordered the CHICKEN & STEAK FAJITAS. I recommend it as the chicken was not dry and the steak was flavorful. The Chips and Salsa that came free for appetizers were tasty also. The Chips were well seasoned, but not salty. 5. This was my first time eating here... and the last. It was off putting to be asked to be seated at the bar as a single diner. I said no, either a booth or table. I could understand if it was busy, but there are literally over 20 booths and tables open, and have been my whole meal time. And it never filled. The server was great providing information for a newbie - and said the best meal they have is the beef fajitas. He brought chips and salsa, and while it wasn't bad, it didn't pass the "oh these are great chips" and the salsa was odd tasting - not the fresh salsa I'm used to. It wasn't bad, but it didn't make me want to eat it either. The beef fajitas were disappointing. Then when I got the bill it was apparent I was charged the regular price for beef - not included on the lunch special with the other fajitas. That made it even more disappointing to know the "best" of what they have wasn't great and then add insult to injury the fact that the price is WAY more than other Mexican restaurants. Wow! Over $30 for a single beef fajitas? I don't mind paying higher prices for great food - but this didn't even come close. I went with my sister & we ordered the taco bar where the food is presented in small ramekins with different fixings so you can make your own tacos. You pick 2 proteins & everything you could possibly want to put on them. It came with both crispy & soft tortillas (freshly made in house). Everything was fresh & delicious. I also had the $5 Margarita Swirl which was regular Margarita swirled with sangria. It was so good & I rarely drink alcohol. And our waiter, Dakota, was another highlight of our lunch. The carnitas fajitas were the best! The meat was cooked to perfection. The couples plate was more than enough. The atmosphere was relaxing and inviting. Oh and the homemade tortillas!! Yum!! I do not know what is up with the negative reviews! Do not listen to them. I'm glad I was so hell bent on getting that chocolate piñata for my husband's birthday that I would've suffered bad food and service just for that. But thankfully we had excellent, fast & attentive and above and beyond service and the food was amazing! We shared the skirt steak fajitas for 2 and they were tender and tasty. Ginormous portion of everything! We also loved the open kitchen concept and my son couldn't get enough of watching the tortilla making machine! Our waitress Rheaven was so sweet and really went out of her way to make sure that the piñata was a big surprise. It even had my husband's name on it. A manager stopped by as well to check on us which we appreciated also. Everyone from the hostess I called to make the reservation to the food runner was friendly and efficient. I was anticipating the meal taking a long time to come out based on Yelpers feedback here but it was quite the opposite. Lightning quick!! I was over the moon at being so pleasantly surprised!! And I haven't even gotten to the best part... the thing I came for! It was such a fun thing to have it be presented and then to hit it and watch all the goodies spill out. The presentation and size and amount of stuff inside as well as how many hits it took to break it all exceeded my expectations! Highly recommend this for any special occasion! I never would've tried this place if it weren't for this creative dessert and I sure am glad that everything else was good as well! We will be back for sure!! A previous review ... I am going to give UJ just 3 stars, because on two visits, I have not had anything that has wowed me enough to offer it more. Off the top of my head the biggest detractor for me is the Salsa that comes complimentary with the chips ... i've had lots of Chips and Salsa in my lifetime, but the Uncle's recipe is by far the worst I've had ... and it does not help it's case by serving it warm .. .something that i've noticed is a Texas thing ... I cannot remember what I had on my first visit although I recall it not being too bad, but on this visit I kept it simple and had the Jalapeno, bacon, shrimp which were actually not that bad but not anything I would order again. So there is probably one more visit left in me to take the fam to say they've tried it as well, but it just not compare to say a El Tiempo, which we've grown to love as our favorite! Update: Went to Uncle Julio's last night as it seems my team loves to come here for team dinner's and still I cannot seem to find the one item on the menu that makes me want to come again ... I will say our server Darius was fantastic ... and the El Jefe (drink) is bomb ... but again from the food perspective, I just can't seem to get it right (or they can't LOL) ... I had the Agave chicken which was OK but just way too much queso, that was all I tasted, way more cheese than chicken ... however I did happen to try a teammates Habenero Honey Shrimp and that was really good, but I mean I love Habeneros, Honey, and Shrimp so I think that was just good by default of the ingredients and nothing special that UJ did ... so unfortunately no upgrade in the rating. read more

We went to Uncle Julio's after my nephew's soccer game; and I can see why his mama picked it out. It's kid/family-friendly while still catering the needs of parents (margs). Her kiddo loves their queso, and she likes the kid-friendly service (crayons, food comes out fast, check out is swift with their tablet-at-table system) They pride themselves on fresh made food; there is a produce display and somewhat open kitchen concept that let's you know their salsa is definitely made in house (tastes like it too). The menu didn't excite me much. I wanted something healthy, like a salad, and they only had two options on the menu (seafood, taco and cobb). The black beans were okay, but a little heavy on the chipotle flavor (same goest for the salsa). Maybe if they could add a jicama or papaya salad that lives up to the "fresh made" tagline. They do have veggie fajitas though, and a decent amount of seafood options. read more

Stop in after work for happy hour. Say at a high top in the area. It wasn't very busy which is surprising on a Friday afternoon. Wait staff was friendly. Management was also out working the floor and checking on different patrons at different tables. We started with 2 Julio's Gold, chips, salsa, and a small house guacamole. The drinks were good to be a pre made mixture. The chips, salsa and guacamole all required salt. Once we added salt it tasted okay. I ordered the grilled fish tacos on flour tortillas and the hubby had steak tacos on flour tortillas. I think the fish tacos were satisfying. Nothing special or memorable. Hubby says the steak taco had good flavor. We ordered 2 more happy hour drinks. The swirl was good but sweet. When we got the bill we signed up for the rewards. It took off money instantly. We added on a 10% tip. Paid the total. Got our receipt emailed. Ready to head home. The handheld machines the restaurant utilizes for customers to check out says we still owed a balance. I don't normally leave reviews but Uncle Julio's was disappointing. The atmosphere was pretty decent honestly and I enjoyed the environment. I ordered shrimp and crab enchiladas, which were decent. That's where the good ends. The waiter was nice but drinks took forever to come out. The other waiters were messing around with each other most of the time I was there. I understand people need a break but it felt unprofessional in a high-end restaurant to see them doing nothing but standing and conversing right in front of us. Probably explains why it took 18 minutes for a single drink to arrive. My friend ordered chicken enchiladas and they were powder-dry. Both of our rice sides had so many hard chunks of dry rice that we genuinely couldn't eat it. The beans were mediocre but there were like 8 beans so there was not much to taste. The queso tasted boxed and left a lot to be desired. And the chips tasted soapy?? Not even sure how that came to be. Not worth the price point, not even remotely close. Atmosphere was the only redeeming factor and that being the only good thing for a restaurant that charges nearly $50 for fajitas for two says a lot about their food and service. Will never go back.
