Right now a lot can improve. I am sitting at the bar. Next to me are several "RESERVED" signs. For customers, no. Apparently the air conditioner above is leaking everywhere. Half the bar is closed for safety reasons. The water is now all over the floor as well. My husband and I feel very sad for the workers here. You can see the wall discolored from the water behind it. It's been going on for some time. Any minute the TV could fall off the wall. These employees are in danger. I personally had to tell people they couldn't sit next to me because the area is closed. This company is losing money. But more important WE and STAFF are not safe. We are all disappointed. Been coming here for years. Love the food & staff. But it's going on for too long. Had lunch at the Rio Grande (Uncle Juio's) in Reston today. Had option of seating in bar area or dining. Decided on dining room as thought wed get better service. Seated along the windows at the 2nd of three tables to the right of the door to outside dining area. So good view of the intersection. Something to do while we sat there. We waited a long while before waitress arrived. Almost left the restaurant. They were not that busy when we came in. Anyway, we ordered chicken fajitas and waters. Not a huge order but the Reston Arts Festival was on and did not want to carry leftovers. Before ordering we were served a bowl of chips and two salsas. Same flavor in both salsas. We ran out of chips. Fajitas came and we're served with No tortillas. So we snacked on beans and rice until tortillas came. We opened the tortilla dish and had three tortilla's. There have also shrunk over the years as they are now 1/2 the size they used to be. We had gone dry on chips before food arrived. Asked 3 different wait staff for more. Finally got chips from our waitress whom said I hear you asked for chips. She did not bring more salsa. We just ate the rest of the fajitas without wraps. Our water glasses were empy and when I asked for check it was a paper check. Asked waitress for pen to write my phone number on for frequent diners club credit. She gave me pen and took off never to be seen again. Luckily we had enough cash to pay for the meal W/ tip Which should have been lower Than 20%. Guarantee phone number never got entered in for credit on this meal! This is not the normal service we have had at the Uncle Julio's. Have been regulars over the years since this location opened. Went here a few weeks ago and our server I'm pretty sure quit mid shift. Service was lack luster and prices are way too high. Their flavored frozen margaritas are just mainly syrup and frozen margarita. The new menu is bland and shows why it's a Tex mex restaurant and nothing more. I went during lunch and they were not too busy. Compared to their other locations, the quality of food was lacking. My food was alright. They seemed to cut their portions significantly. You define my would not get your "bang for the buck." read more

The Reston Town Center location consistently delivers excellent service and delicious food. Big kudos to Angel - he's the friendliest staff member ever! We ordered the Barbacoa Steak Fajitas, the Tex-Mex Dinner Combo, and my personal favorite: their made-to-order "Tableside Guacamole."Everything was fantastic! I ordered takeout dinners to be ready at 5:00 PM. When I arrived at 5:00 PM to pick them up, they weren't ready yet. 15 minutes later, I was told I should go get my car and pull it up in front of the building because I had a large order. I got my car, parked in front of the door with my hazards on, and went back inside to pick up the bags. When I came back outside with the bags, a security guard with a parking boot threatened to lock it on my car. I had been parked there for less than 30 seconds. Uncle Julio's gets one strike for being 15 minutes late on my order. They get two strikes for telling me that I could park in front of their door. And they get three strikes for doing nothing but watch while I had to argue with the security guard. And to top it all off, items were missing from the order. I should have checked the order before I left, but the threatening guard didn't seem like he'd give me much of an opportunity to do so. read more

Website does not say happy hour is bar only but the waitress said it is bar only and would not accommodate. Do not go here. If you are wanting a sit down Tex-Mex restaurant in Reston, Uncle Julio's is a good choice. We were sat by the big bag windows, so we had a great people watching spot. They also have outdoor seating as well. I had the margarita of the month- the blueberry margarita. It was good, and had lots of pieces of blueberry in it. I also had the two steak tacos. The star of the plate was definitely the beans, they were so good. The meat could have used a little more flavor but was still good. The service was pretty average compared to restaurants around. Location is great, plenty of shops of things to do in Reston Town Center. Also, plenty of free garage parking on nights and weekends. read more

Went here with a group from work. The night started with the specialty pineapple margaritas. The drink was a nice blend of tequila and pineapple juice. There were chunks of pineapple in the drink which added a nice touch. I had the seasoned spicy shrimp fajita for dinner. The shrimp had a touch of heat to them. The meal was presented on a large wooden board with shredded cheese, sour cream, beans, and mexican rice as accompaniments. read more

My friend and I went to Uncle Julio's for her birthday. When we arrived at 5:30, we were seated at a corner table in front of the garbage area. I said I preferred another table--given that there were several others available for two people. They seemed confused about it and finally found another table. For starters we ordered a small guacamole. I've been eating at Mexican restaurants my entire life, but I have never seen such a tiny portion of guacamole. For my entree I had the 2 soft shell taco dinner which was served on a small plate and consisted mostly of lettuce and tomatoes. My friend had the fajitas and seemed pleased with it. We asked for the tab, and waited 15 minutes before we got it. All in all, a big disappointment. Mediocre food and bad service. I won't come back again. Don't waste your money here. read more

We visited Julios yesterday afternoon after a long run. We decided to sit in the bar area at one of the high tops. Our first sign to leave should have been when we sat down, 3 tables around us had not been cleaned. Dirty dishes, excess food and even the checks still on the table (FYI during our entire time, nobody came to clean them). Very lackluster service. After 10 minutes, I went back to the hostess area to get two menus. I guess sitting in the bar area, the bartender is the server which is silly because there is no access to the restaurant from behind the bar other than going back though the kitchen, I guess I cant blame her because she was trying to make drinks for the entire place and service the bar area herself....bad management and set up. The chips and salsa were blah...the salsa tasted like watered down Texas Pete Chile sauce from a can. It was about on par for the taste of our food as well. Nothing special....just blah. No draft beer at this location and the margaritas tasted like they were poured straight from a bottle from the grocery store. There are much better places in RTC.... read more

My food was really small portion especially for the price, and the service was extremely lacking. I placed an online delivery order from Savage Burrito - which is run by Uncle Julio's. My order was delivered missing an item. I called the number on my delivery confirmation and was left on hold for 22 minutes while they looked for a manager. I finally hung and tried to call again. This time I got stuck in a loop of "thank you for continuing to hold" voice messages and no human contact at all. It was EXTREMELY frustrating to pay for an item that I did not receive and have no way to contact them to get this resolved. They sat us at a table in a corner so close to the wall that I couldn't even pull my seat out to sit down. There's really no reason to place the tables like this, and there were plenty of empty tables. The house guacamole is a bit embarrassing for a sit-down Mexican restaurant. The avocado is like a puree, the pieces of onion were huge, and it just overall didn't have much flavor. If I'm going to a Mexican restaurant, I expect food that is at least comparable to something I can make myself. Uncle Julio's always delivers fresh food and great service! The guac, sizzling fajitas, and sangria are always on point. The restaurant is Covid-19 compliant and takes precautionary measures as the tables outside are 6 feet apart and you can access the menu via QR code on your phone. While the Tableside Guac is pricey at $14 and not quite tableside as it's prepared in the back, it's worth every penny as it's fresh and made-to-order. Just by the color, you can definitely tell the difference between the soggy sad looking regular guac at half the price at $7, and the premium tableside guac all bright and fresh. The guac pair well with the salty chips and balances the saltiness. The sizzling Veggie fajitas were bursting with flavor with a full portobello mushroom, squash, peppers, and onions. The flour tortillas were soft and pipping hot. The cheddar cheese, pico de gallo, and sour cream rounded out the meal and was fully equipped with DIY delicious fajitas! The Sangria was quite tasty and not too sweet. It would have been nice if there was some fruit! The server was super nice and gave us half a dozen extra tortillas pipping hot right off the grill! Very friendly waiter who always made sure our needs were met. Manager also came by to ensure everything NC was going well. This is a great family spot, especially to kick back at the end of a long week. Uncle Julio's is also great for birthday groups as you can get the chocolate piñata which is a delight and it's fun to break up. This time tho we ended up getting the veggie fajita which consisted of mushrooms, zucchini, onions, bell peppers among other things. They completely ruined my mother-in-laws birthday! She loves fried tacos and instead of fried tacos we got burnt greasy tortillas that were inedible. They remade the tacos for us but they still came out awful. They swore the tortillas were corn hit they tasted like flour tortillas and had the same flakiness ad a flour tortilla. We just had these at the loudoun location which was wonderful but the Reston location was awful. The grease also tasted old and really impacted the flavor. This completely ruined our birthday experience. On top of the food being disgusting , we didn't eat the tacos and they charged us FULL price!!! read more

I have been going there over 20 years just to get their steak fajitas. Last night we realized they changed the meat and the marinating process from in-house to at another location. The fajitas were overcooked and no flavor. The manager offered us 50% off for a meal that was inedible. Unfortunately we'll have to find a new place for steak fajitas. The worst part is their menu still says it is marinated for 21 days which is probably untrue. Please go back to the original recipe. read more

If you haven't heard about or experienced Uncle Julio's Taco Tuesday, you are missing out! They have a "taco bar" for $12/person. It is basically a mini taco bar brought to your table on a lazy susan so it rotates around the whole table. The only thing I don't like about this is that the tables in the bar area are wayyyyyyyyyyy too small for such a masterpiece. Its a struggle to really enjoy a good happy hour in the bar area with this dish. Three of us from my job frequent this place and we really need the large 6 person table in the bar area to accommodate all of the plates, drinks, chips, salsa, and of course the taco bar itself. I came to Uncle Julio's tonight with some coworkers for happy hour and was extremely disappointed in the service of the staff. Our server, Karen, seemed very annoyed or sour with our group all night, taking menus early, taking food early, and lacking basic hospitality I've come to expect coming here many times before. Our queso and guacamole took way too long to come to our table and when they did, the queso was cold and watery. I asked for more menus for the table, was told no, I asked for a dessert menu, never received one, and Karen hovered over me and my coworker when we were completing our respective portions of the bill, which felt very awkward as I felt compelled to tip more than she deserved. We got the Carnitas Fajitas for two which includes raised pork, lime crema & fresh cilantro. If I could leave zero stars I would. We sat outside on the patio which was not crowded at all. All the servers looked miserable. Took 10 mins to get salsa and chips which tasted like burnt oil, we asked for different chips and the runner did willingly give us new chips. Why are the chips getting smaller every time we come? Another 10 mins waiting on drinks and all we wanted were 4 margaritas. We could have stayed all day and drank but the service was absolutely awful. Yessy was our server. She didn't know what Hornito's tequila was. Which would be fine but then recommend about one you have. But she didn't. She came back and then charged for the hornito's so I don't understand why they didnt have it in the first place. We asked for the server again to another waiter who kept getting frustrated we kept asking where Yessy was. American American gentlemen. Finally Yessy showed up and we placed our order. We waited for 32 mins for our food which was cold not even sizzling. The runner who brought our food was lovely and nice but had to run back to the kitchen several time because she didn't have any help with the order. Terrible, this never happens at the Arlington location. We never got water replenished after asking for them, she never offered for more drinks. Oh and I had to take our silverware off another table for the all 4 of us. No one cared about us at all. After we ate we waiting another 15 mins, no one offered dessert or anything. I went to go find Yessy inside who was having a conversation with a gentlemen in a grey sweater in the space by the front door (to go area) and I waited for 8 mins until she saw me and said did you need something rudely. I said yes I want to get out of here, after that I asked the hostess to speak to a manager and she said he was busy. As a former West Coaster, I had never heard of or been to an Uncle Julio's before. I came here with my 5-yo son and some friends who had been here and sang praises about the chain. We were seated almost immediately and were served chips and salsa. The waitress was nice enough but talked my friends into a huge guacamole dish that was really meant for more than the two of us eating it. My son wanted shrimp, and it wasn't an option on the kids menu, so I asked what I could order (from the several shrimp items) that wasn't spicy. The waitress asked the manager, who told me that they could only make one of the most expensive dishes (without the spice) on the menu! It cost literally more than double what I ordered (two taco plate). I went ahead with it, because my kiddo's heart was set on shrimp, but I was flabbergasted that they wouldn't just serve us plain shrimp and charge us a decent price. The taco plate with rice and beans was meh. Nothing particularly exciting about it. I'm glad I filled up on chips and salsa first. The Queso hit the spot as always yet the drink, despite having my favorite tequila, was a little weakly weak (& it was literally the tequila + club). I realized I was hungrier than I thought so I decided to order an entree. I typically go with fajitas but said let me live on the edge so I ordered the combination enchiladas (beef & cheese + onion).
