A great hole-in-the-wall type place. Whenever I eat here (we most often order to go, and they dd a very nice job packing and listing the menu items) ) , I am reminded of eating with one of our friends from Latin America who was a fabulous cook and would put together wonderful dishes for us. While they had various options most were opting at today's lunch for the three taco platter... yes there is a option for separate types or all the same. Tacos are made with a double soft corn tortilla Hubby opted for a single beef taco and a side of fried pinto beans (black beans also available). For the last six years, my benchmark for really good tacos has been Tacos El Gordo in Vegas. The tacos at Taki don't hit that high a note, but they do make for a decent lunch on the go. And this friendly little taco shop is a nice addition to the Herndon local food scene. On my most recent visit, I ordered three single tacos: the Carne Asada (grilled beef), the Carnitas (roast pork with a nopales relish), and the Lengua (beef tongue). The tacos are made the traditional way that street tacos are made - with two corn tortillas - and at $3 per taco, they're in step with Northern VA prices. The beef was the most flavorful. Nothing particularly special about the flavor - just that it could stand on its own and not be overpowered by the chopped onions and cilantro topping that I had requested. My next favorite was the roast pork. Again, good flavor and great texture with a nice amount of fat. What was disappointing was the nopales relish - there was no sight of it! Or if there was, I was too hungry to notice. The beef tongue was what I had been looking forward to since the friendly lady at the counter handed me my to-go box. But it fell short of expectations. "Bland" is the best way I can describe it. It was as if I were eating an empty taco. In general, I would say the tacos at Taki have left me wanting more - more flavor, more kick, more "POW!". It's the reason for the 3 stars. But they score higher on friendliness, cleanliness, COVID consciousness, and potential. I hope they continue to improve and I look forward to returning. read more

I ordered this on DoorDash a few days ago. It was 8:05 pm when I placed the order. DoorDash confirms my order and my driver. The restaurant confirmed the order. I wasn't sure when they closed but DoorDash said it was like 9:30pm, so I figured an hour and a half would be enough time. Nope! 9:15pm rolls around. I call my driver, they say they haven't picked it up yet. Immediately I get an email from DoorDash saying the restaurant cancelled my order! They waited until 9:15pm to cancel it?? That's an hour and ten mins AFTER the order was placed! I couldn't have been more disappointed and will never attempt to order from this place again, unless they reach out and apologize or explain themselves. We had the refried beans and Spanish rice with them. The beans were creamy and smooth, with a hint of seasoning. They were exactly the beans I grew up eating in Southern California along the border. Had the al pastor taco platter today for lunch, good portions of rice and beans. The tacos were good but the only problem is they were too heavy on grease. I ate them at 1:30pm and I still feel the food after I burp and I feel it in my throat rn it's 9:45pm. The rice and beans taste wasn't anything special it was eh. They have me 3 little lime wedges so that was a bummer. Pricing kinda sucked 15 for 3 tacos rice beans and a canned soda. In general tacos in nova overpriced IMO. Tacos should be at 1.50-2.00 each.
