Pete Maxwell served us several courses that began with the best tomato basil bisque I've ever had, prepared with locally-sourced heirloom tomatoes. Then came ahi tuna on microgreens served with a horseradish-based cream sauce. It was served family style, with Pete accommodating some of our group's request for more well-done portions. An heirloom tomato and burrata salad was fresh and delicious. I don't typically choose lamb, but the entree of a lamb ribeye and a little lamb lollipop in a bed of autumn squash puree, served with roasted heirloom carrots (strip steak for the non-lamb eaters) had both a beautiful presentation and just the right seasoning and I was pleasantly surprised. A miniature, warm pumpkin muffin was served before a unique dessert of vanilla ice cream served inside a roasted squash bowl. We brought and enjoyed our own wines, including a wine that paired well with the desserts. This is not the type of dinner we would have expected to be offered at The Grille, but every person raved about the experience and we look forward to doing it again soon.

I almost did order the 5 course tasting menu, because it looked really good- but I'm so thankful I didn't. The table behind us was seated before us and by the time we left he was only on his third course. I'm also always cold but it was really warm in the restaurant. Not sure if their ac was broken or if it couldn't keep up with the weather. Not knocking the restaurant for this, things happen. But they probably could've used another few fans. We were the one table in the middle so the air wasn't getting to us. Not knocking the restaurant at all for this, it's a hot hot summer and things like this happen. The kid's meal portion was huge, actually bigger than my gnocchi order. We also ordered the brussels, pork ribs, seared tuna, tagliatelle, branzino, and pork chop. I ordered the lamb medium rare, but it arrived closer to medium, and initially it was somewhat underseasoned. After adding salt and pepper and getting some of the thyme from the plate into the bite, the lamb became significantly better and worked better with the Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The creamed spinach underneath was delicious on its own, but I didn't enjoy it with the wine. Interestingly, the absolute highlight of that wine pairing was the braised garlic. The sweet, mellow garlic and Châteauneuf-du-Pape were wonderful together. Dessert was the highlight of the entire pairing. The lavender ice cream was outstanding, the Chantilly surrounding it was light and delicious, and the strawberry sauce wasn't overly sweet. The Sauternes was excellent with the dessert, particularly with the fresh strawberry. This was the pairing where the food and wine truly made each other better. Even though I was one of the last diners of the evening, I never felt rushed. My server was very attentive and social which I love. Chicken was perfectly crispy, although the batter was a little sweeter than I prefer. I'm more of a Southern, savory fried chicken person. We asked for hot sauce to add to the maple syrup and Mackenzie upped it by bringing us hot honey instead. YES! Makers Union, add that to the menu. Promise you, it'll be a hit.
