I've been coming here since the 90s and it's still Amazing! I recently came back in town and I haven't been here in over 15 years. OFF MENU ITEM: They took the Sour Cream Chicken Enchiladas off the menu, but they still offer them if you ask. There's still amazing... if you like sour cream. Typically, I always hit up Uncle Julio's when I'm in Texas, but this was a bummer of a visit. We were seated in a section without a specific staff member to oversee our table, so, by the time we got our meals, our food wasn't really warm, we had 3 different people waiting on us, but no one checking in on drink refills or anything else. There was no lunch rush as it was around 3 pm, so the place wasn't super busy. It seems like there was just poor communication. The service was pretty great. The ambiance? Eh. We were seated in the patio, which is nice enough I suppose, but the heaters were not working, so that was not great. The food is standard Mexican fare. But at a price higher than expected. I had the tortilla soup, which was good. A little lacking in the avocado. I also had the carne asada, which was good as well. That said, I can make the exact same thing for way cheaper and just as good. The prices are ridiculous. $36 for a carne asada and three tortillas? Wow. Likely not returning. My wife and I stopped in for a early Friday lunch while visiting town. The Carnitas soft corn tortilla taco plate was amazing. The pork was fabulously marinated and tasted superb, and the pico was uber-fresh. Great service, and the manager went out of his way to bring us different Salsa off menu (ranchero sauce). We went yesterday (Memorial Day) and it was a big disappointment. The carne sada was not the same as a year ago. It must be under new mgmt. The steak seemed to be a different cut of meat and did not taste anything like it used to be. The portion is half of what it was before and the shrimp were very small and dried out. I ordered beef enchiladas with chili con carne sauce. The enchiladas were ok but the refried beans and tortillas were absolutely delicious. I want to say this restaurant has A+ super service. Our waitress Alyssa was a fantastic server. Our food came out nice and hot. We were there for a graduation party. The atmosphere was great. Rustic wood style furniture. Drinks could've used a bit more muscle to them. It was too heavy on the lime juice. Let the manager know and they not only appeared empathetic, he comped the El jefe and tried the Tres Amigos. That too was heavy lime flavored. The margarita mix was just off and over powered the alcohol sadly. The food was amazing!!! The vibe was busy but family friendly. It was sports games on, so the environment was right up my alley. Hope they get those drinks back up to par. Definitely would've been a five star had they been. But outside the drinks, it was a good time. If this location is busy, be prepared to wait for seating and you're server. Not a bad spot for Tex-mex. The ability to make an online reservation was the real mvp. The older I get, the less I like to wait to be seated. The menu was a decent size. There were a few items for pescatarians and vegetarians and the margarita portion of the menu is just as big as the fajita side of the menu. The customer service wasn't exceptional, but it wasn't bad either. Don't expect anyone to go out of their way to be friendly, they are more focused on getting the job done and that's A-OK with me. First time coming here and it was really good. We got seated quick and had someone being us waters and chips and salsa immediately. The salsa is a little watery but flavor is good. I had the swirl frozen margarita to drink which tasted great and the enchilada combo because I couldn't choose. Uncle Julio's has been around for a long time! I have been here many times over the years. It is a casual place with inside and outside seating and a bar with great drinks. The staff all work hard. We went to eat with friends on a Friday afternoon. At 5PM the place was busy! The staff were trying to keep up but ultimately were too swamped. They could have used more bodies and management should have applied some direction to their efforts. The manager (?) stopped by and was nice. One of the kids was having a birthday and she made it special for her with the chocolate piñata. It is very loud there which is not my thing--- I knew that going in though. The majority of the food was sub par which caught me off guard. I got beef tacos which were stacked high but tasteless. My wife got the barbacoa tacos, and they were so greasy! Barbacoa is pretty greasy to begin with but it was overcooked and the grease just hung in it. The soft taco shells were prepared in a way that made them greasy and unappealing. No cilantro or onion, just lettuce and jalapeños on the tacos. We had the Honey Habanero Wrapped Shrimp with our meal and they were pretty good but lacked the kick of habanero. Overall I was not impressed with this visit. My experience was equal to that of Mexican Inn or other economy chain food place. The price was not equal however--. Pretty expensive for the experience we got. I will probably end up going here again but I think this place needs to refocus on quality and efficiency. read more

This was my very first time to ever eat here, and the place did not disappoint. The cigar shop owner was celebrating his birthday and wanted to eat here with his staff and close personal friends. The restaurant was packed. In spite of the busyness and the large tabletop we had, the wait time wasn't that bad. From start to finish, the whole process was very efficient. The waiter was very professional and was on his game. I had the three cheese enchiladas, and they were delicious. I had to show my call history to prove I called them and the manager seemed to still blame us for the restaurants mistake. Been coming here for years! The atmosphere, servers, cooks, managers, & hostesses are fantastic. They new changes below for the menu suck! Rice-- This new rice is not Mexican rice if I want the fluffy stuff with no favor I would have went some where else! Shrimp--New seasoning added has very little flavor. If you get the habanero then you taste the spices. Plus they are being over cooked it's like eating rubber! Chips-- The new oil give the chips a taste of being old and over cooked. Please go back to the old way! Cajeta-- So glad it's back!! However, give the customer the option of having toffee on it! It's killed the original sweet satisfying taste. It has been a few years since we have been here. Some things have changed, mainly the menu. The number of offering seem reduced but they are more tailored to a higher quality presentation. We dined on traditional Tex-Mex food this time. Tex-Mex Combo and Combination Enchiladas including a small complementary Queso since they moved us after we ordered to accommodate a larger group. The facility is clean and well managed. The staff are very nice. Our only reservation is we place this in the Yankee Tex-Mex category. The spice levels will not offend anyone. Delicious! We love coming to Uncle Julio's, great family restaurant or perfect spot for celebrating a birthday or anniversary, it's even great for a date night. Everything we've ever had is so delicious, but we stick with the Guadalajara, steak & chicken fajitas with bacon wrapped shrimp and melted Mexican butter. So yummy! I love Uncle Julio's, don't get me wrong. But I just had a to go experience which has changed my mind. Checked in curbside and after waiting 20 minutes, ten minutes after my order was to be ready, I went inside. My order, of course, was ready. Fine. I can go in. But what was the irritating bit was the value for money. We know that Julio's is expensive but geez. When I spend $50 for a meal and an appetizer, could I get more than 1/3 cup of salsa? It's cheap, Julio. And when I order a $9 cup of queso, could I please have more than 15 chips? They're cheap too! I think I'm done with Julio's to go. And of course, since they never acknowledged my arrival in the text, I didn't get the promised survey nor respond when I asked for one. They were smart there. read more
