First time here and it was such a positive experience. I was a little confused about dressed code but it really is a mix. We were over dressed but there were some really casually dressed people so I'd say just come hungry or sort of hungry. I had seen all the buzz about the fried cactus and as someone who has grown up eating all my life I was intrigued on how this would be any different. Boy was I wrong. In fact, I would be happy enough just coming and eating only this. I have some sort of food limerence where I cannot stop thinking about this. Like daily! I want it so bad. No it was a whole experience because waiter placed this bowl towering with a mountain of curly crunchy ribbons. He kindly gave us his advice on the best way to eat it. You take their fresh made blue corn tortilla, pile on the cactus, don't be shy, if it fits in your mouth just go for it, then that green sauce was heavenly. All the flavors combined made me levitate. That would've been embarrassing. You could easy fill up on this alone given enough time and privacy. I just wanted a moment alone to enjoy fully ha ha. I then ordered the Chile en Nogada and the picture alone was enough for me to go yes we're on our way immediately. However listen I am a self proclaimed gift wrapping queen. I know a good ribbon and a good bow. I know that the typical dish has a bow - yes a fabric bow but this bow was not up to the standard of this restaurant, unfinished edges, and the color satin gold was not really representative of the environment. Good thing the bow is not edible but visually it could use a little improvement. The dish itself was 4 out of 5 for me only because I have had this dish before at a more casual space and every component of the dish was full flavored, where this one feels a bit safe. For dessert I was a little unimpressed with the options. I am not a fan of tres leches so I did not order their most famous desert but instead opted for another one that was a pastry with ice cream on top. I also give it 4 out of 5 its needing more flavor and sweetness, I mean this is dessert. The five stars is more for the service. Our server was amazing. He described every dish we ordered as if we were watching a Netflix documentary of a chef competition and they just submitted their dish. The table next to us got an amuse bouche compliments of the chef and I didn't want to be too nosy and peek over so I have no idea what it was. First, the food was good. A couple things we had were really nice. The fried cactus was something we could have done without. Servers provided a great experience aside from a bunch of flies (ate outside on the patio and were waving at flys most of the night). Three stars for the prices. We are an entirely vegetarian meal with no alcohol and paid $400 for a party of six...and we were sharing (yes, you read that correctly). $13 for a side of Mexican rice. $18 for essentially a side mashed potatoes. $16 for grilled vegetables. And the portions were SMALL. We were sharing across four adults and three kids and everyone only ended up getting a tiny amount. It was really difficult believing we were receiving any real value...it felt like the Don and figured out how to have unsuspecting guests pay double! It to say this isn't a legit high-end Mexican restaurant, it is. But I would more realistically describe it as a high-end steak house with wrap-around Mexican dishes (which explains why the side prices were so extreme). Kids quesadillas with steak were $17 a piece with no sides other than potato chips (a little odd given the context). Been wanting to go to this place for a long time, ever since moving to Fort Worth. I've heard lots of great things about it and now I understand why. I visited Mexico City not too long ago and this place is so authentic. First of all, our server, Jairo, is super good at selling everything. I wanted to order everything he described. Upon entering this place, it reminded me a lot of Mexico City, with the brick and the ceramics, and the lighting. Our appetizer was the guacamole with rib eye chicharron, nopales, and blue corn tortillas. The nopales were different than what we had in Mexico City. These were crunchy and had bacon in them. They were so delicious though. I like having different textures so the soft tortillas (handmade btw) and the guacamole with the crunchy nopales really hit the spot. We finished that app like we hadn't eaten all day. My main was the chilaquiles de pato. Even without tasting the duck and just the tortilla chips, it had the flavor of the duck in them. I love that they used thick tortilla chips for this because the thin tortilla chips that regularly come with chilaquiles always get soggy before the last bite. These stayed crispy up until the very end. The beans were smooth and very flavorful. My husband and mom had the huevos benedictinos. I had a bite and it was amazing. The chipotle hollandaise was smoky and I love the bitterness and sourness of the arugula that went with it. And because we were celebrating my birthday, we had dessert. We got the tres leches and they gave us the campachana for free! I think the campachana was better than the tres leches. Again, it had all the textures that I love so much. 100% would come here again. One of the better meals I've had in Fort Worth and a place definitely worthy of taking out-of-towners. read more

Visited Don Artemio in Fort Worth for the first time and I had an enjoyable experience overall with some small caveats. Key takeaways were the quality of the food and atmosphere. I was impressed with the flavors of the Chorizo tacos I ordered, the meat was seared beautifully and paired well with the seasonings added. Additionally I ordered a jalapeño margarita and while I am glad they were able to make one given it's an off menu drink, the price of the drink left me a bit speechless. It was $24 just for this cocktail alone which I thought was a bit steep. In regard to the ratio of portion sizes to cost I was not really impressed. Great food and wonderful service from Stephen made our experience even better. The restaurant itself is elegant and classy, perfect for a nice night out. We each ordered a cocktail--the house margarita for my husband and the El Chihuahua for me--and both were excellent. For starters, we tried their famous Napolitos Fritos paired with guacamole and chicharrón de ribeye, which was incredibly flavorful. We also added the totopos, their house-made tortilla chips, and they were fresh and addictive. For entrées, I ordered the Chilean sea bass en Mole Negro while my husband went with the Costillas de Cabrito. Both dishes were well prepared and satisfying. The Costillas de Cabrito does require a bit of work to get the meat off the bone, but it's absolutely worth it--the flavor is outstanding. Don Artemio serves wonderfully authentic, upscale Mexican dishes that are to die for! We made reservations for a party of 3 on a Wednesday evening, and by 7pm just about every table was filled. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated from the moment we walked up. Our waiter was very knowledgeable - we ended up ordering all of her recommendations and did not regret a single dish! I would order the nopalitos again and again! The quail was cooked perfectly and their mole is truly unremarkable. Highly recommend trying their Mexican red wine! Another memorable visit and experience at Don Artemio's to celebrate my sister's 80th birthday. Don Artemio's is her favorite "destination" restaurant. The food and service are always stellar. Don Artemio's restaurant decor in a "feast for the eyes." So much of the decor has been imported from the region in Mexico the restaurant represents. Towards the back of the restaurant there is a very important wall you need to ask your servers about. The restaurant's provisions are also sourced straight from Mexico and local farms. Be sure to check out their website before you dine there. There is SO much history about the restaurant there. Words cannot describe the phenomenal experience you'll receive when you dine at Don Artemios. The minute you walk in, the restaurant exudes professionalism. The staff and management are top-notch.Our server, Alexis, took incredible care of our party while we were there, As mentioned, we were there to celebrate my sister's 80th birthday. My sister had already ordered several orders of hers, and our, favorite appetizer. It's an appetizer that I could easily devour 2-3 orders of accompanied by a couple of Don Artemio's Top Shelf Margaritas. Drum roll please! It's Don Artemio's signature appetizer, Nopalitos Fritos: Unique, tender-fried cactus tossed with bacon, served with heirloom house made blue corn tortillas to make tacos. After munching on the incredible Nopalitos Fritos, it was time to get down to business and move on to the main event, deciding on which entrees were were going enjoy. She also added grilled chicken to the dish. I decided to order one of Don Artemio's signature entrees , El Famoso "Chile Hojaldrado." It's a cream cheese pecan-stuffed poblano chile wrapped in puff pastry over house made tomato sauce. It is so decadent. After a nice wait to enjoy our drinks and meaningful conversation, our party's entrees arrived table side. Don Artemio's expert staff took care of ensuring each of the guests had the proper entree and asked if they had any questions. My wife loved her Sopa Tarasca and my , El Famoso "Chile Hojaldrado was SO delicious. During past visits I had gotten a taste of the Entree. But this time it was ALL mine. I didn't have to share it with anyone. Wits all that we had eaten would you think we needed dessert. Well, YES, it was a birthday celebration. My sister had already pre- ordered 5 separate serving of Don Artemino's Tres Leches del Desierto. It's a deconstructed tres leches dessert, ammonite shell ice cream all made at the restaurant. How did we not go here when we lived in Fort Worth?! I'm so mad at myself...ugh! We were back in town visiting our hair stylists when we decided to grab a bite before heading back up north. So glad we decided to finally try Don Artemio! When you walk in, it just feels like you have walked into Mexico. The ambiance is so appealing, you can tell it was designed with a ton of time and well thought out details. We started with the guacamole, which was made table side and was really good. Then we had a ceviche and their signature fried nopalitos fritos. WOW! Those were so good that I ended up making tacos of them by themselves. Surprisingly very good! We also had tuna which was really good too. Not sure I would get it again though. Lastly we got the house made chorizo which just went great with the nopalitos! Tried this place out for Mother's Day. We were seated right away and received great and friendly service. The place overall had a really nice ambiance. They were out of several items on the menu that night, maybe due to it being a special occasion. So one of my best friends wanted to celebrate her bday here and it was a treat . I loved the decor , of course I am use to authentic Mexican food and this is unlike any Mexican food I have ever had . We had amazing appetizers made up of Nopalitos Fritos which was fried tender cactus unique tacos with a touch of bacon, acccompanied with heirloom maíz nixtamal tortillas. We also had the delicious guacamole with nice crunchy GRASSHOPPERS!!! Yes, that is right. We topped our Guac with lovely crispy Chapulines. The tortillas were easily some of the best fresh tortillas I have ever eaten. We also shared the Chiles en Nogada, considered by most people to be the national dish of Mexico, the colors of the dish--green chiles, white sauce, red pomegranate are the main colors of the Mexican flag. Our waiter told us the story of how the restaurant came to be and it was so charming. The nopalitos fritos is a must order dish. The crispness of the cactus with the subtle hint of bacon accompanied by the delicious salsas wrapped in a blue corn tortilla is just wooooow. What a dining experience we had at Don Artemio! I really felt like I got to try some upscale classic Mexican dishes. The atmosphere inside is very classy and the brickwork is quite impressive. We started with the Totopos - the salsas were awesome. This was our first experience having Nopales and we loved it! As this was also our first time dining at Don Artemio, our server also brought us over each a Nopalitos Fritos - this was amazing, the cactus was thin but held a lot of flavor. The bacon on top really tied together the flavors. Definitely get this when you dine here. I got the Tacos de Lengua and my husband got the Chilean Sea Bass. Both dishes were excellent! We finished off with the tres leches for dessert, the berries were sweet and the bread pieces soaked up the delicious milk.
