The weirdest thing I've wanted recently is really good refried beans. We hardly ever go to a TexMex place because my other half doesn't generally like it, and the black beans just don't do it for me. We decided to stop at this adorable house on South Hemphill for dinner tonight. Great service and we loved that it was just like dining in someone's home. (They even have an upstairs party room for larger gatherings. ) Anyway, I took one bite of the beans here and almost cried with happiness. The atmosphere and ambience is the best thing about this place. The food was horrendous. The lunch chicken special was played with no thought in mind for presentation, the chicken was undercooked, veggies were obviously bag steamed and unseasoned, rice was presented decently but was overcooked and mushy. The service was slow and the manager was incredibly disrespectful when I asked if they honor a military veterans discount; I was laughed at and told my total. Not sure why I haven't reviewed La Playa Maya before. We have been coming to their Westside location for years. It's our go to Mexican food place in Fort Worth. Restaurant has a nice dining area with tables and booths and a small bar. There is a patio you can enjoy when the weather is nice. Everyone (Maria, Lupe, Bianca, Millie, to name a few) is warm and friendly. They treat you like family. Service is prompt, chips and salsa arrive almost immediately after you are seated. Great way to make you feel welcome. And their food is great! My last visit I had their Carne a la Mexicana, one of my go to orders. Portions are large enough for me to have take home of 1-2 more meals. My husband likes variety when he comes so he ordered the Tres Amigos. Can't make up your mind? Just order this dish and get a taco, an enchilada, and a fajita. My only complaint about this place is we always eat way too much, it's that good. Stopped in for a quick lunch and shared the appetizer plate with my Mom. It was more than enough for us to share and we really enjoyed it. We got a mixture of chicken & beef. It had been a long time since we dined at any LPM, so we treated grandsons Evan and Austin at this location. Their complimentary chips and salsa are very nice. Thin, crispy chips and tasty salsa with a nice kick of heat. We started our meal with a small order of meat, bean and cheese nachos and the queso flameado with chorizo. Both were very good. For entrees we each had something different. My wife ordered the fajita medley for one. Evan had the chicken enchiladas. Austin the child's cheese enchilada and I the beef enchiladas. On 1/26 my wife and I dined at this location. It is one of our go-to restaurants for Tex Mex in Fort Worth. We eat here a lot. They were crazy busy Friday night and we were sat in the back of the restaurant in a tight spot with other 4-top tables. Two women sat behind behind us and were there before us. When they finished they stood by their table speaking while a guy and a young woman waited nearby to bus the table. The ladies stood at their table for a few minutes at most. When they left the Latino guy, busboy, said "pinche perro" to his coworker, referring to one of the women. I found it highly disrespectful! I know what that mean! If this restaurant thinks so little of the people paying them, keeping their doors open, why do I care to spend any money there if their staff is going to show such degenerate behavior?! It highly disrespectful to speak of somebody like that. If he had said it in English and not Spanish and the customer heard him, surely he would lose his job. He said it in Spanish because he doesn't think the white people sitting around him might not know what he is saying. TELL YOUR STAFF TO DO BETTER AND KEEP THEIR OPINIONS OF CUSTOMERS OUT OF THEIR MOUTHS WHEN THEY ARE OUT ON THE FLOOR. Do. Better. You're not the only Tex Mex joint in town. It was our first time eating at this quaint Mexican restaurant, and we really enjoyed it. The menu is quite large, and in addition to traditional Mexican fare, it also includes a lot of variety, including several seafood options. Love this place for their ceviche tostadas and micheladas but their service just keeps getting worse and worse. It's so trash and their manager enables the terrible behavior. When we complain about service there's no apology from her just an annoyed and forced ok. Very good! I have my 'First Visit Checklist' for every Tex-Mex Restaurant. Are these items good: Chips? Salsa? Queso? Guac? Margs? Entree? My scores for La Playa Maya: Chips Salsa Queso Margs Entree All boxes checked in my book! I prefer rojo salsa that has the 3 C's: cold, chunky, and cilantro. La Playa's hits it all. Queso is a yellow queso. I tend to prefer queso Blanco, but their Queso supreme was really good. Quac was great, despite me not getting table side quac this time. Margs had the correct ratios of tart and tequila. They taste like they use fresh ingredients and not sweet and sour, my preference. Service was prompt and executed well. My only critique would be that the wait staff didn't bring any personality to the table (pun intended). She didn't introduce herself, which required me to ask for her name at the end. I would have included her name in my review if she was a little more personable. But, she was quick with anything I ordered and was on top of it, so zero complaints, only a suggestion. We are new to the Fort Worth area and have been visiting several local restaurants with hopes to find our 'Go To Tex-Mex Restaurant.' I think we may have finally found it! We will need to try a few more dishes and meet a few more servers in order to solidify that! read more

The wife and I went on Sunday afternoon about 4:30. The place wasn't very busy and we were seated and waited on quickly. The waiter was super polite and attentive. We ordered the Coctel Maya and the beef enchilada plate. When the Coctel Maya arrived, it smelled fishy and we refused to eat it. They were gracious about taking it back and offering us another choice. When the beef enchilada plate arrived, the food wasn't very hot, just warm. We were hungry, and so we ate it anyway. Went there on a Saturday about 1:45pm. They were only about 30% of capacity. Seated quickly but took over 10 mins to be served water and chips/salsa. Ordered sour cream chicken enchiladas. Had to return them when served as the chicken was chewy and the sour cream looked like it separated which happens after it's frozen and reheated. Tasted off.
