Gave this place two stars based on waiter and green sauce. First time in March 2026. Was expecting decent food but alas not so much. The food did come to my table hot, which I requested because I like hot food, but the pastor tacos had no flavor. The meat had little to no flavor. They were just boring. like boring. So I dumped the good green sauce all over them. I ordered three of those and some rice. The rice was OK. It was hot, but it didn't have much Mexican rice flavor. This is a white people who don't know Mexican food restaurant. Spice and flavor and heat are different. You can have great food with little heat but wonderful flavor. This place just had no flavor in any of the dishes and when I looked around, I only saw white people in there and that was kind of a giveaway the chips that they brought at the beginning kinda average out of a bag. I love Mexican food. It's my favorite food and this is a place I would spend my money at. I'll have to keep looking for a real Mexican place. But if you like boring white people version of me I am then this is the place for you. read more

WOW! What a surprise!!!! This quaint, family-friendly business is just off the traffic circle and 183, Benbrook Hwy. Great for groups too. The service, food and drinks, yes they have a full bar were excellent. Attention to detail and great food recommendations. I was so full I couldn't even eat a sopapilla! We love this place! It's "home cooking" if you have an abuela. It's not a place for being in a hurry... service is friendly and efficient, but if you aren't in a rush they do a great job of explaining the menu and the experience is worthwhile. In order to beat the crowd my wife and I went to Don Melquias and were very pleased. We came here when they first opened several months ago and were not pleased at all, but today was awesome. Good food, excellant service and they have Negra Modelo on tap. What else can you ask for. Oh I rate the Menudo as the best I've ever had. read more

We had heard good things about Don Melquias, and feeling nostalgic for the old Pulidos we decided to give it a try for our regular Friday Mexican restaurant date night. This place is great! The first thing we notice is menu is large and varied, and the prices are just so reasonable. The chips are not too fragile, not too thick, just right. When we ordered, I wondered how the food would taste given that the prices are somewhat lower than most places around; I'm pleased to say the food was fresh and yummy. I got the taco salad. It was a nice size, not huge, just right. The best thing? The bottom wasn't soggy, which happens often with a taco salad. The tortilla bowl flaky and fresh. My husband has beef fajitas with all the trimmings. The meat was tender and flavorful. Our server Daria told us she was brand new that day, but she did a great job! She was very attentive. The only thing I would say that was less than just right was the decor. It was a little stark. Don't expect it to look like Pulidos. The walls are white, the floor is white, and the table tops are white, and the lights are on the bright side. I think the addition of some colorful wall decor and dimmer lightbulbs would help. Maybe put some vases or at least standing drink menus on the tables. The little bar in the middle of the main room is super cute. The manager, Jose, visited with us and he was very welcoming. We definitely will be back soon. The lunch menu also looks very inviting and is so well priced. Go eat at Don Melquias soon! They deserve to be a success. read more

We tried Don Melquias on a whim while on the other side of town. Small amount of reviews is because it's only been open since Dec. The food is authentic kitchen Mexican. The service is upbeat and attentive from the moment you walk in the door. The ambiance is traditional Mexican restaurant, including music and decor. read more

This place is the old Pulido's Mexican Restaurant. Re-opened as Don Melquias. It's like Pulido's was before, just brighter lights. The chips, salsa, and queso are good. Sweet tea is good. I don't care for the refried beans, the rice was fine. I tried all 3 enchiladas. Beef was ok, cheese with Queso was awesome and I didn't care for the shredded chicken. Overall, I like that they are open here. The ambience is nice, and the staff is very responsive. I will be back to try more items. read more

We have given this place two fair chances and unfortunately we walked out both times without ever getting our food. Last night we were left unattended for over an hour - no drink refills, no chip refills and no update on our food. My husband actually refilled his own tea multiple times. As we waited there were 4 or 5 groups that came in after us ate, paid and left. The manager finally told us he would have it out in one minute. The waitress then came over and said she was sorry , the kitchen was having a hard time and could not remember what we ordered. We were nice and said no thank you- we will leave. The manager proceeded to follow us outside and tell us that we are not being considerate as our chicken dish takes longer to cook than fajitas. He said he now has our food ready! He never said he was sorry or addressed the fact we never were checked on or given refills. He was very aggressive- We are so disappointed we truly wanted to like this place- FYI- the first time we waited overt 30 mins and were never given drinks, chips or order taken- It seems maybe they forget about the booths -maybe if you do give it a try request a table -the booths are kind of hidden read more

First off all the people that posted five star reviews are family and friends of the owner. Because if they are not then they are retarded and have no clue how a restaurant is supposed to run. My wife and I decided to give this place a try, what unfolded was a night of regret. Ambiance was a mismatched mix of Latin America. Server was over the top but then never checked on us and when he did it took a long time to refill our chips while we waited for entrees.(they had five tables at the time and several servers) my opinion the food was at the bottom of the list for texmex. Queso is nacho cheese out of a can heated up and watered down. For dinner and each of us having two margaritas(which were pretty much nothing but sweet and sour and very little alcohol, we didn't even finish our second ones) was 87 bucks. Also the salsa is definitely from a can, jar not made in house. Overall huge disappointment. read more

We went back on Saturday night last week. Another great experience. My grandson who is not usually adventurous tried a few new things and loved them all. He insists we need to bring everyone we know to eat there. Note: Parking can be difficult. The lot is a bit small and difficult to navigate. There is only one handicapped parking space? We arrived about 6:30 on a Saturday night. The restaurant was clean and inviting but nearly empty. Their chips were fresh the salsa is good, could use a little heat. The margaritas are a huge frozen goblet of lime juice...not overly heavy with alcohol. Our waitress was knowledgeable and had her recommendations. Traditional selections with a few specialties. The food was served with a great presentation either by the owner or the chef. Very proud. We had a good time, music was loud, but there wasn't noise competition from the few other patrons. This is In the old Pulido's location. It was late. We were hungry. We were greeted by the most cheerful host, smiling, and welcoming to seat us 15 minutes before close. We opted for carry-out out of respect for their staff. I had the beef Chile relleno plate (does not come w/ tortillas). He had the fajita beef enchiladas. The rice was fresh and flavorful and the beans were truly authentic. They sent us home with complimentary chips and extra salsa by request. The host was patient when making our choices, and made helpful suggestions that lead to exceptional service, and a delicious meal at a very reasonable cost. Lunch specials are less that $10! We will definitely be returning for the food and the considerate, polite, and accommodating staff! Great job! read more

I don't know why people are making a big fuss about this restaurant it's not any better than Pulido's . I think Pulido's was probably even better. The chicken enchiladas with salsa Verde were just boring no flavor I actually tasted the chicken itself it didn't have any season on it, brine it or anything there's just literally no seasoning in their food it was just very bland and I don't think that Mexican food should be that I was very surprised that they didn't have any barrio tacos. It just had the usual food that just as good as Mexican inn. I wonder I go to these little trailer taco joints because those people still know how to make tacos flavorful. As I always try to rape restaurants I would consider this one and done. The store set up was basically the same as Pulido's had it they haven't made any real improvements same vinyl flooring same bar same outdoor patio. You can tell the food was heated in the salamander and delivered straight to you when that happens you can always tell the plate is really hot it's hotter than the food inside the enchilada or the chicken read more

Excellent service and fantastic food. There was a little wait at the door, but not more than 10 minutes. Service was super quick and amazing after that. The margaritas are craxy awesome, and large. We had the flautas and the steak fajitas. Both were great. The portion is only 2 on the flautas but the fajitas were perfectly portioned for 3 tortillas. The steak was outstanding.
