We had eaten at the one that was briefly open downtown so we were excited to be here and we were not disappointed! We usually avoid chain restaurants but after our day at the Fort Worth Zoo, we decided to give them a try. We arrived at about 3:30 (late lunch) and it was nearly empty (perfect). The whole vibe is comfortable with an Aztec type atmosphere. Plenty of room (inside and out) with a nice size bar in when you enter. Staff were dressed nicely and chips and salsa were presented promptly. Chips were crisp and had good flavor & the salsa de mesa had nice flavor (I see why the sell it) the only issue was our server was hard to come by. 3years ago, I loved Meso, gave them an outstanding review, and told many about it. Today, I returned after a year or so and was really disappointed. The service was good, the ambiance is lovely, and the food was alright. I ordered the chicken quesadillas which came with guacamole and a relish type side that was tasty. The quesadillas were seasoned well, but were a little greasy. My mojito was super weak! Also, when we were paying, they offered a QR code, but you have to manually input your credit card information. No thanks. Then, when I asked for a container of the sauce to go with my left overs, they wanted to charge me! I'm talking about one of those tiny containers that maybe holds a tablespoon and 1/2. It was a perfect night so we asked to sit on the patio under the huge tree. The lights, the tree, and just the atmosphere was romantic, but casual. It was the perfect date night spot. We were greeted by our server. She was super nice and patient, gave us great recommendations, and she didn't come to the table to check up on us too much or too little. The tortillas were nicely made and the beef of the arrachera was perfectly cooked to medium. It's a huge plate! The portion is very generous. It gave me a total of 3 meals. If I was extra hungry, I might have finished it in 2. I highly recommend the ceviche, the chuleta tomahawk, arrachera, mole de pollo, and the churros. ESPECIALLY the churros. Leave room for this! As we've done many times before, we ordered DoorDash, getting our $85 (before tip) dinner delivered and the packaging/missing items should have been our first clue that this was going to be a bad experience. I've listed the issues below: We ordered a PINT of salsa to find no chips were included. Spending $10 on salsa is absurd but no chips!?! My salad, which already has limited toppings, did not include the sliced apples, which are listed as an included topping. The beans were just thrown in the box, covering half of my other side, the corn tamale. And the cherry on top of it all - THERE WAS A BUG INSIDE OF MY QUESADILLA THAT I ATE, CHEWED, AND SPIT OUT. We had an extremely disappointing and frankly concerning experience at this restaurant yesterday. We ordered a simple cheeseburger from the kids menu for our 3 year old, and within hours he became sick with what appears to be food poisoning. No parent should ever have to deal with that after a basic meal that should be held to the highest safety standards. It's unacceptable that a restaurant cannot ensure the safety of something as simple as a children's meal. This raises serious concerns about their food handling, storage, and overall hygiene practices. Based on this experience, I strongly believe this establishment should be inspected by the local health department. Off the bat the service was good, wait staff was attentive and friendly. Food wise however, I was very underwhelmed with my visit to Meso Maya. I got the Pollo Serrano enchilada plate and my mother got the Mole Poblano enchilada plate. The sauces were decent but the chicken inside the enchiladas were flavorless-kinda like boiled in water and plopped on the plate?¿ I've been to the Dallas location and had an excellent experience so I was thrown off by my trip to the Tanglewood spot. The restaurant was clean and the staff was friendly however it was FREEZING COLD in there. People were wearing jackets and when I mentioned it to my waiter he didn't seem concerned at all. I run very hot always so for me to say somewhere is cold is really something. I ordered the cheese enchiladas and they were so cheesy that I couldn't get it to chew up. The rice was plain white rice and the black beans didn't have any flavor. My husband ordered the brisket enchiladas and those definitely had more flavor than anything on my plate. We went to Meso Maya after much back and forth about where to go. I wanted Mexican food but not the same run of the mill flavors so we landed here for dinner out with the kids on my birthday. We were there at 4ish on Sunday afternoon and it wasn't very busy, at all. We were seated right away in Viviana's section. We liked her right away and she made us feel right at home. When it came time to order, we ordered the queso poblano to start, the carnitas relleno for myself, carne asada with a side of chimichurri for my husband, chicken tenders with fries for my 2 kiddos, we added on the poblano mash potatoes and sweet plantains to share. While we waited Viviana made sure our drinks were always full and we enjoyed light conversation with her and how sweet she was to our kids. She informed us that Meso Maya is a scratch kitchen and everything is made to order. We got our meal and everything was fresh and delicious. Our kiddos' meals came first and we were relieved because nothing is worse then hungry kids getting their meals well after the adults-which has happened more times than I can count at OTHER restaurants we've been to. They had a thin crisp batter and it was a very generous portion. My husband's carne asada was cooked well done per his request and the meat was still very tender with chimichurri as the perfect addition. The beans were well seasoned and sweet corn tamal was the a brighter side to break up the rich flavors. The cheese chile rellenos were just like my grandmother makes and the carnitas with avocado relish gave it the perfect balance. The plantains were and yummy added sweetness to our meal but the poblano mashed potatoes were not very good. The potatoes were dry and chunky and there was something off about the flavors. Overall, it was a wonderful family dinner experiencing and we are planning to go back soon. Were two big folks ordering food with two big plates and we were seated at a small table that even the sweet girl who delivered our food was asking why we had such a small table so she added another table to give us room. Food was not that good. I asked for medium rare and I was given medium well. The skirt asada steak was tough. And the mole enchilada was trash. My wife and I went here for lunch today for the first time. I am happy to report we will be returning soon! Service was great, the food was very good. This place is in an area with several good food options within a hundred yards. Hulen is a main road in this part of town, and there is plenty to do in the area so you are likely to have reasons to be nearby. There is a lot of parking but I suspect during peak times it might get tight. They open at 11am, and we got there at 1135. I made a reservation online but only a few of the tables were occupied, so we got a booth near the back, which is also near the restrooms. The staff were friendly and all smiles. They say smile and the world smiles with you- True in this case. They had us in a good mood immediately. It was fairly quiet which I love. Drinks were ordered and appetizers were on the way in a jiffy. Complimentary chips and salsa were quickly served also. The salsa is some version of chipotle and was quite tasty with a mild heat. The chips were made from strips of tortillas and were light and crispy. We both ordered a house salad as an appetizer. The salad was a lime and orange (?) vinaigrette over greens with some apple pieces. It was tangy and refreshing and not overly sweet which appealed to me. The flavors were right on! I had a cup of coffee that was very good and probably made especially for me. My lovely bride ordered one of her favorites, Chile Relleno. I ordered something I hadn't tried before, Cochinita Pibil. I am not a super-fan of chile relleno, but the cheese they used was a little tangy and tasted really good, and the tomatoey sauce the pepper was in tied the dish together. My dish was very good! But I couldn't understand some of the choices they made- The pork was cooked to perfection and was seasoned wonderfully. I was very impressed! I was excited to see the meat was topped with pickled purple onions, but I was disappointed because they were simply blah- no hint of salt or vinegar whatsoever. The waitstaff mentioned that the tortillas were made in house and I had had no complaints with them. Both meals came with sides of rice and beans. The rice was almost unseasoned but had pieces of onions in it. Not sure why they wouldn't add some kind accent to it, but it was cooked right and filled my tortilla. The black beans were nothing special but tasted fine. The dish came with a salsa that might have had some citrus in it. It was ok, but I wish it had been a little sweeter and spicier. Pork loves sweet and spicy. This restaurant could probably churn out 5 star reviews fairly consistently with a couple of tweaks. I am being super picky but I definitely want to try this place again and you should too. read more

Still popping in here on a regular basis. I absolutely love the soups and the exceptionally delicious ceviche. They're honestly the main reason I go. Add the lovely patio, and always excellent service, and it's just a perfect spot for an easy and relaxing meal. All the menu items I've tried have been fresh and tasty, and the portions are very (too?) generous. Some dishes are not prepared in the style I prefer, but that's just a question of regional recipes, and at the end of the day, they are all done very nicely. All in all, this is actual MEX-Mex food, which can be shockingly difficult to find in this part of the world. Service here is always wonderful. Staff is always friendly, informative and always asked if you've been there before and give you a quick rundown of who they are along with the style of food (because this is not Tex-mex it is authentic Mexican food) Brunch drink specials are $3 for mimosas, bloody Mary's, or house sangria until 3 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Pozole Rojo is wonderful but the pozole verde is phenomenal! There are both small and larger sizes. Mexican toast is the best ever and so much flavor and not overly sweet.
