We've lived in this area for almost 3 years and have yet to visit until this week. We usually go to another Mexican food restaurant close by but I've been wanting to try this place - they have a great patio! We finally tried it and ended up going twice this week because it was SO good!! We were brought chips and salsa right after we sat down. And let me tell you, some of the best I've ever had! The chips were thick and warm, appeared to be fresh. The salsa was delicious, very flavorful, but also very spicy. But I couldn't quit eating it! I ordered a combination plate with a hard taco, tamale, and beef enchilada that came with rice and beans. Lots of food, so I was able to take half home for later. Very flavorful. Hubby ordered a burrito filled with fajita steak and grilled peppers, but it looked more like a quesadilla. He said it was very good. Service was quick, friendly, and the food came iut hot and fresh. Ordered shrimp fajitas to go. Said no beans, no rice and no tortillas. You would hope I'd get a good serving of what I'd be given, but no. I have been going to this restaurant since we moved to this area about 13 years ago. Slowly the service and the food have declined. Today took the cake and we will never be back. We are one of the loyalest customers they have. We go every week or other week. We dine in and take food to go. We supported them to the fullest. Today I decided to try the pastor tacos because I had never tried them and were not marked spicy. I cannot eat spicy due to a health issue. I asked just to be safe and the waitress stated they were not spicy. Received my plate and they were spicy. The waitress said she doesn't know the menu sooooo and left it at that I only took one bite of the taco. I don't think I should have been charged for the plate as it was still in its entirety. She still charged me and said o well. Didn't say sorry didn't acknowledge her mistake. This along with the food quality is bad. The carne guiada is not beef tips but the cheaper cut of beef (carne picada vs beef stew meat) not everyone knows this is you are not from south Texas, Other plates are smaller for the price they charge. Came for a work lunch with my boss and it was just on the way to our next location, so we stopped by to get our Mexican food fix. I loved the outdoor seating area but it was much too hot for us to sit outside. They had beautiful plants and a fish pond that someone had made and clearly regular tends to it. Atmosphere: Kinda confusing decor. The deer heads throughout the restaurant say "Texas Steak/BBQ Joint" but evidently that doesn't matter here. Spacious seating area, and really casual dining. Service: Waitress sat is down, gave us chips and salsa, and took way too long to come back to take our order. Not talking 10 minutes, not talking 20. It took her 30 minutes to come take our order... and it was NOT busy!! She did NOT refill our drinks after we got served until we were almost done eating. Food: You can see right away that the chips are NOT fresh. They have like 40 baskets of chips already made in the back (you can see them stacked up on a shelf!!) So we got STALE, OLD tortilla chips. The chimichanga was literally a deep fried tortilla stuffed with ground beef. Nothing else. We weren't offered any hot sauce/salsa and I was thoroughly disappointed. The food here is not great. My family and I ate here in the early evening, about 6:00. It was a full house but not over crowded. The decor is weird and they don't have central air conditioning. The AC wasn't turned on until the room got full so it took a while for it to cool off. The food is edible and that's about it. i had a very weird experience here, which is the reason for the 2 stars. i brought my son here to eat lunch, a lady i presume to be the owner comes up to our table... takes a french fry out of my 6 year old sons basket... dips it in his ketchup.. and eats it. i have never been to a restaurant before where someone comes up to your table and eats your food. especially not the owner. she giggled and walked away. i didn't say anything because i was so shocked i didn't know what to say. i don't want random people putting their hands in my child's food and eating it i thought that was common sense not to do things like that?? the food isn't anything special, it's bland, but it's not expensive so can't really complain too much. also very weird atmosphere, i didn't like it. overall probably won't go back read more
