Today's experience was a 4 stars because the service was really slow; we eat here frequently and now matter how busy our food arrives quickly. Tonight I tried something different; veggie & avocado enchiladas I had them add fajita beef; this girl got to have steak it was delicious. The veggies were seasoned well, the guacamole was fresh as was the black beans. Been coming here for years. Decades even. The quality maintains. A great place for Tex-Mex favorites. Their chips and salsa are second to none. Fajitas, wonderful, tamales, as good as home made. My Prayer Partner and I met here for the Wednesday Enchilada Special. It's now $7.49. I walked in and their was no Host in site. I believe the Manager was busy taking a large order over the phone. When, he was done taking the order, he sat us at a booth. This Restaurant is huge. Theres a lot of tables available. It's has colorful muriels, great lighting and all original furniture and tile! It's amazing how they have maintained the place! Our Waitress was Leticia C. She was very nice. She was ready serve to serve us. I ordered the Chicken Enchiladas. I was so glad to chose from Beef or Cheese. I loved the Sour Cream and how my Childas were packed with soft Chicken and topped with some sliced Jalapenos. My Rice was ok and my Beans were yummy. I'm a mid-fan of Tex Mex only, but its hard to argue with El Fenix OG status in the food style, having been in operation since 1912! They do it well, capturing the ambience, service, and menu that defines Tex Mex. We were seated quickly and our server was at the table in a few minutes with complementary chips and salsa. The chips are crispy, salty, and the salsa consistently fresh and delicious. We ordered some queso as well, which fell off a bit for me. It's the basic thing you expect, but seemed just a tick on the soupy, ballpark side. Any entree will be good to a Tex Mex fan. Enchiladas are hot, gooey and flavorful. Chimichangas freshly fried and yummy. The tortilla soup stood out with it's savory flavor and heartiness. My only nit is the server brought us an electronic checkout device, which I let sit too long before paying and she could not bring the screen back that enabled me to tip. I had enough cash, luckily. My wife and I ate at El Fenix tonight. We have been eating there for about a month with mixed results. Tonight was terrible. The server was worse than useless. Food arrived barely warm. The chicken enchiladas has chili con carne on them. The beef enchiladas had sour cream sauce. Server dropped the food and never checked back. I got another server to get the enchiladas remade with correct sauces on them. The server was busy helping a party of three who seemed to have consumed a bit too much alcohol. I guess the server thought drunks would be good tippers. Server never checked back on us. My empty tea glass beckoned to be refilled, but alas, it was not to be. Server finally came by and asked if he could clear the dishes. My reply of "No" seemed to confuse him as I asked for my check for a table of uneaten food and a dry tea glass. $3.69 for one glass of warm tea seemed a bit much. We waited more than a reasonable time for the server to return with our check. Finally got up to go to the register and pay up. Surprise, our server was busy flirting with two waitresses. He dashed to intercept me so I could pay the absent check. The waiter rattled off an amount for our bill. I told him, yet again, that I wanted my check. He finally understood and printed my check which I paid through the "Toast" application. I over tipped the server $0.99 for his total lack of service. I am sure he will convince himself, that I am just a jerk. Oh well. Maybe next time we will get a professional server. read more

Service was awful. Long long wait for food and when I did arrive everyone and I mean everything on my street taco plat was barely warm. Red salad is bland and boring and I asked for hot sauce and they up charged me 3.00 dollars more. Looking around I saw no Hispanic people eating here and that should have tipped me off. I ordered the street tacos meat was cool. Corn tortillas on the taco was dried out and not soft. No flavor..but my charro beans were warm and good. Basically this place is poor to barely average at best. This chain needs better staff and a decent cook in the back who actually cares about what they are sending out to customers. Ordered a fajita steak quesadilla, got one with brisket in it. Ordered 3 brisket tacos, only received 2. It's been a really long time since I've been here, and it was truly better than I remember or expected it to be. We went for an early dinner, for my MIL's bday, so it wasn't supper busy. There is ample seating for large groups. Our waiter was super friendly and attentive but not in a too much or bothersome way. Our drinks and salsa were always refilled quickly, the food was good and pretty quick arrived, and the prices are still reasonable compared to other Mexican restaurants in the area. We had a bowl of queso for an appetizer it was tasty and enough for 6 people to enjoy. I'd say it was all around a quality experience, and the waiter even brought out a dessert for the birthday girl. I've been dining at this location for almost as long as I've been living in the west side of Fort Worth and have only been disappointed with my meal one time, many years ago. There was not enough beef in the enchiladas. Management took care of that by treating me to a free dinner on my next visit. The enchiladas were so stuffed I couldn't eat it all. Fast forward to this evening's meal. I thoroughly enjoyed the Grande enchilada dinner tonight. I have enjoyed El Fenix' delicious meals my entire life. Now that I have moved back to the DFW area, my partner and I visit the Camp Bowie Blvd location at least weekly. (He has eaten here for over 40 years.) The food is as fresh and familiar tasting as it always has been. The staff and managers are friendly, and our order is both taken and delivered promptly and piping hot. This location is decorated in 'traditional El Fenix' style, I love the old ads: now framed and hanging on the walls and the large retro photos of EF customers enjoying themselves long ago. Two recommendations as a long time fan: It's 6:50 PM: your cafe is packed and your lobby and bar are filled with waiting customers, Extend your happy hour prices to those who are not seated until after 7. On a recent visit, we did not get a table until 7:15. Yet we were told happy hour was over and the 'register system' would not allow overrides. ( If that is true, EF executives need to trust and empower their employees to make decisions in the customer's best interests) ( And they need a modern computer system that allows for accommodations. , We were told we should have ordered from the bar before 7. The bar area was packed: we could not get in. My second observation is that the pecan pralines sold at the front taste rather stale and are overpriced at $1. Why not give them to customers at the table when the check is presented? (At no charge) or drop the price to 25 cents? That will eliminate any risk of serving old candy. Overall, EF is a classic Metroplex tradition. I recommend Camp Bowie and the other locations most heartily. read more

I ordered a frozen margarita. I was served over the rocks. There is little tequila in the drink. The chips that have been the great but are the same as other restaurants. The salsa was watered down. I recently threw a party at El Fenix on Camp Bowie in Fort Worth, TX. There were over 40 of us. Our servers were Frankie and Letty. They we so friendly and accommodating with everything. The food was great as always! Frankie and Letty provided excellent service to everyone! They were quick to serve the drinks, take the orders for meals, and serve the food. They also refilled chips, salsa and drinks quickly. And always with a friendly attitude. We have been going to El Fenix for many years now because of the great food and service. Our waitress was a little preoccupied with something on her mind. She did bring us refills but each time the drinks were switched. The restaurant it self was clean and inviting, nothing much to say about it. Now the food, the chips had no flavoring, just a taste of corn chip. The "salsa" was ok, but could have been better. My food was the fiesta taco salad, looked almost appetizing until i saw the "meat" which looked like wet dog food. We couldn't remember why we had stopped going several years ago, especially since this used to be on a near weekly rotation for us. Simply put, there are much better options for good Tex-mex in Fort Worth. Portions are so much smaller than they used to be, which wouldn't be an issue if the prices weren't so high. What's more, the food was bland. This was the first time in my life that I had to add salt to refried beans. My childhood staple of soft cheese tacos was just depressing. The salsa also kind of tasted like it was from a jar? The chips were great as always, but everything else was just not good. If this kind of food is what does it for you, your dollar would go farther at Rosa's. Maybe even Taco Bueno. Or a freezer meal. Actually, I think that's what this reminded me of. We used to like El Fenix when we lived in TX and decided to go to the downtown location on a quick trip. The parking on the street is metered and was only like 85 cents, so no biggie. Was a bigger hassle to download the app and pay. We entered and we're happy to see we were the first in line. However, no one greeted us for over 10 mins even when the lined built to over 5 more parties. Finally a snarky waited came by and "offered" seating to anyone tipping in cash. I'm sure he was kidding but the timing was waaaay off since we were all NOT in the mood. Anyway - he seated most of us. After another 10 mins our waiter finally came around to take our drink order. Our meal came out before our drinks and we noticed our waiter made our drinks as the bartender was too "busy". It was not a packed night so apparently they were very understaffed. Came here for a late lunch while my oldest had a camp near by over the summer. Staff was better than the El Fenix closer to home. Attentive and very much on top of things. I wish they would swap the staff from this one to the other location closer to home actually! Went ahead and got a sampler appetizer as my meal and it was very good shy of the flautas that were cooked to long making them too crunchy and hard to eat. But I know with that there is a level of personal preference on crunch. The one thing I wish as a whole across the board is they would change what cheese they use for queso; cause unfortunately it's my least favorite of any Tex-Mex sit down chains. read more
