Chips & Salsa
Loren B.

I'm a mid-fan of Tex Mex only, but its hard to argue with El Fenix OG status in the food style, having been in operation since 1912! They do it well, capturing the ambience, service, and menu that defines Tex Mex. We were seated quickly and our server was at the table in a few minutes with complementary chips and salsa. The chips are crispy, salty, and the salsa consistently fresh and delicious. We ordered some queso as well, which fell off a bit for me. It's the basic thing you expect, but seemed just a tick on the soupy, ballpark side. Any entree will be good to a Tex Mex fan. Enchiladas are hot, gooey and flavorful. Chimichangas freshly fried and yummy. The tortilla soup stood out with it's savory flavor and heartiness. My only nit is the server brought us an electronic checkout device, which I let sit too long before paying and she could not bring the screen back that enabled me to tip. I had enough cash, luckily. Will repeat when my peeps are craving Tex Mex and we are in Ridglea.

Thin, crispy chips and mild but flavorful salsa.

I've been dining at this location for almost as long as I've been living in the west side of Fort Worth and have only been disappointed with my meal one time, many years ago. There was not enough beef in the enchiladas. Management took care of that by treating me to a free dinner on my next visit. The enchiladas were so stuffed I couldn't eat it all. Fast forward to this evening's meal. I thoroughly enjoyed the Grande enchilada dinner tonight. Two beef enchilada and one cheese enchilada, rice and refried beans with corn tortillas and chopped onions on the side. Oh boy! I'm having two meals tonight. Service was excellent as well. Needless to say, "I'll be back."

There's plenty of seating as well as bar seating. I've been there on a weekend night when a Mariachi band was playing. That made the experience even more enjoyable. When my family and I go we always eat a couple baskets of their homemade chips and salsa and their queso with meat. They have a mild red salsa and a green spicy salsa. Both were fresh and very delicious. I had the Quesadilla dinner, Mexican rice and Charro beans are included. I must say, I have NEVER had better Charro Beans. My family had the Enchilada Dinner, the Carnitas Dinner, and Cowboy Salad. I can't finish this review without mentioning their Frozen Peach Margarita with sugar, no salt...THE. BEST. I. EVER. HAD.

We always start with a cup of queso, which never disappoints. Some of my favorites have been the carne guisada, beef chimichangas, and camarones al mesquite. My husband usually orders the tacos al carbon, enchilada dinner, or the beef quesadilla dinner, and he's enjoyed all of them. Their margaritas are also really good and pair well with the food. The restaurant has plenty of seating, though it can still get pretty busy during peak times. Even when it's full, it's still comfortable enough to have a good conversation without feeling too crowded or loud. Overall, it's a reliable neighborhood spot with good food, good drinks, and consistently solid service.

Very chic and trendy great place for photo ops catching up with a friend or having a date night. I had the sirloin fajitas for lunch. We tried the corn and flour tortillas. Waterfall outside for cute photos definitely loved it. The Service was on point. I ordered take out and sat at the bar while I waited for my entree.Ordered two drinks while I waited, got the one at the top of the menu and a skinny margarita and they tasted exactly the same ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ they got the job done and were fine. Food: I got the enchiladas three ways with steak. You can take the regular three sauces or choose just one if you'd like. Green sauce is the best, white sauce is pretty good, and the red mole is fine but I wish I would have swapped it out with the spicy almost (orange) sauce that comes with the seafood enchiladas. That sauce looks so good! My partner did not like the red sauce at all, again I thought it was fine just not amazing like the other two. Beans and rice are good, nothing special. Nothing wrong with the chips and salsa just run of the mill. Other thoughts: I wish I had just ate my food at the bar instead of ordering take out. Bar seats are comfortable, views of a tv for anyone sitting at the bar, and it's just a nice comfortable atmosphere in there. The hostess and bar tenders I interacted with provided great service.

Disappointed for a couple of different reasons. - we wanted to sit outside on the patio and they sat us in a table that was filthy. Chips and rice everywhere on the ground under our feet when there were plenty of other table options near that were clean. Also major delays for getting our drinks and chip refills when it felt like we were the only people out there. - the food just sucked. It felt like everything that came to our table was cold and completely rid of seasoning. We ordered the blackened tilapia tacos and that was the best thing we had all night. The chicken enchiladas were a joke. We asked for the sour cream on the side and they decided to just bring out the chicken wrapped in the tortilla and that's it. Not really sure how they thought that would go... beans were cold and rice was meh. No cheese no vegetables nothing else. - I ordered a margarita with a double pour of tequila. Our server came back and said she was instructed by her manager that she can't do doubles and they would have to charge me for another drink and put the tequila in a shot glass instead of having the bartender mix it in. Never in my life have I had someone refuse to make a double. I was curious why this place was so dead on a Friday night but now it makes perfect sense. It's just not a good restaurant. Save your $$ and go eat somewhere else.

We were greeting warmly as we were shown to our table. Soni, our server, for our visit introduced herself and asked if we had any questions about the menu. Since we weren't too hungry, we decided to order the Appetizer Sampler plate, thinking that would be the perfect combination of yummies for us. While waiting for our appetizer, we enjoyed the chips and salsa. I especially LOVE Chuy's Cilantro Jalapeño dip. It's addictive and so delicious. When Soni brought the Sampler plate to our table our eyes got as big as dinner plates. The platter was huge and there was enough to share with 4 people not just 2 who weren't too hungry. If we'd been going home, we could have taken a to-go box, but we had another engagement. The platter had quesadillas, flautas, nachos, guacamole, queso, pico and jalapeños, 4 of each. Oh my. We had a delightful time enjoying the deliciousness and doing quite a bit of people watching, that's always so much fun. Soni took wonderful care of us throughout our visit, she was very attentive. They're your typical trendy taco place, with their own selection of merchandise and crazy/cheesy jokes strewn about on t-shirts and signage. They have an ample bar space, but it looked like only one patron was interested in that; the rest of us were there to eat. You order your food at the counter and get a buzzer to come back and pick it up. The staff is friendly enough, but you don't really interact with them much since it's all pretty much self service after you go to the counter. The drink station has cane sugar based sodas; it's a bit heavy on the foam, but otherwise good. We opted for the birria pizza, a couple of cups of pozole, and a side of elote. Everything was solid. The elote was good, not great, but the pozole really hit the spot given how cold it was outside. The birria pizza is what blew me away, though. This was easily one of the most unique, but tasty, things I've ever had. It's not really a pizza, more like a topped quesadilla, but they did a great job of it. I'd not only come back here next time I'm in Fort Worth, I'd be interested in opening a location in Houston if I had the money to franchise it.

The Tulum plate came with a chicken taco, tamale, and enchilada, but all three tasted very similar, so there wasn't much variety in flavor.
