We are suckers for a quick meal. . .add to that a tacos quick meal. . .count us in! We live less than a mile from Rusty Taco and for some reason, hesitated to give this spot a try-- our mistake! My husband is from California and I'm from South Texas so we do love our tacos! During our first visit we tried about four different tacos-- all were very tasty! The queso and Ritas were impressive as well. I docked Rusty Taco one star due to their chips. Half were the corn chips you get at a sporting event, and half were more authentic and tasty. I'd like to think maybe it was just that they ran out of the good chips and made due with the not so great chips. . . not sure though ‍. I suppose we will have to revisit to find out. I would pass on the fried jalapeños, nothing to write home about there. The jalapeños were pickled, I think fried fresh jalapeños served with their ranch would be a better option-- the pickled just didn't do it for this South Texas gal. Don't waste your money with this place. The tacos are disgusting and poorly made. One of the tacos we had was the migas taco, and it came a pool of liquid. It wasn't even close to migas. They just crushed some tortilla chips on top of it. This was absolutely inedible. I appreciate the worker trading it out for a different one, but it wasn't much better. The queso with brisket had so much liquid fat in it that the queso would slide off of the chip. The brisket tacos came with their own puddle of fat, and the rusty taco was so bland. I just moved to Texas and I am trying the restaurants that Michigan didn't have. A few were very good. But many were very sub par. I went before the Corona hoax so it was business as usual so no excuses for these businesses. I saw that R Taco changed their name and seemed to have cleaned up their exterior signage but as I walked up I saw what appeared as a shabby old Mexican joint trying to appear as seasoned and well visited. It didn't pull it off. I went in a sat down and tried to find someone to help me, but no one around. Except a few people talking to friends or what appeared as regulars drinking multiple margaritas. I tried to find a menu or something to let me know what they had to offer as food, but nothing noticeable. So I just waited for someone to pass by and inquire if I was the cigar store indigenous person since I hadn't moved and they just kept walking past me. After 28 minutes of no one approaching me or even saying hello I can help you. I will return. A regular showed me I could order online and pick it up and never have to talk to anyone since no one seems to interact with customers. I ordered 5 different street tacos and I will give reviews on them if they ever are prepared. They say 16 minutes. I was surprised. 5 different tacos were done in 14 minutes and waiting for me when I went in after 17 minutes. I had the BBQ Brisket Taco first. It had a great BBQ flavor, a little too much for a Taco. But the meat was tender and the fixins were tasty too. I would say these would make anyone happy. So if you go inside looking for help give up on that. You will never find help. Rusty Taco shop is similar to many of the gourmet, single order taco venues that have really become popular in recent years, however there is a few distinctions about them that make this place worth the visit. For starters, the food is fantastic. Every taco has a distinct, robust flavor and some even have minor variations that change the taste entirely. Second, the service is usually lightening fast. Often, before I can get my drink filled, my food is waiting for me at the table. Finally, they are reasonable. Where some taco shops start at better than $5 or $6 a taco, Rusty's begins their offerings at around $3 and they compare just fine to the more expensive versions. Also, at the shop on Camp Bowie, located just across from the old Ridglea Theater, the service there is top notch, always friendly and always prompt. Okay so a friend of mine that lives in the Ridglea area recommended at check this place out, so one morning me and some friends are doing some work outside and I decided I was going to pick up some breakfast tacos. These breakfast tacos were freaking awesome, I got a variety of chorizo egg and cheese tacos, brisket and egg tacos, and Fajita egg and cheese tacos and they were all really good and large. Hungry and in West FortWorth I saw "R Taco" and checked it out on Yelp. (As one tends to do) The star reviews were promising so I took a leap of faith and visited the establishment. The decor is outstanding. It's hard for me to explain but let me take a shot at it. It's Lucha Libre meets Arizona. I'm adding some photos and you can make up your own mind. The restaurant had one table top (i.e. one table worth people) the rest of the place was desolate. In fact, it took a bit to get someone form the back to take my order. I ordered three tacos. The BBQ Brisket, The Rajas, and The Beef Fajita. The tacos were "meh". The Brisket lacked any brisket flavor. The Rajas were dusted in queso fresco which really isn't what rajás are usually mixed with since queso fresco has little flavor and as the name suggests is more fresh and light. This really didn't help the tossed ancho pepper and onion's flavor much. The Beef fajita missed the mark as well. There was no caramelization, and no real beef flavor. It tasted like the beef was over braised. And none of the tacos were properly oiled. I.e. there was a serious lack of grease or fat. For the love of all that's holy in this World, at least add a squirt of olive oil. And, yes, before you ask. I did taste the three sauces they provided. They are reasonably named Mild, Medium, and Hot. The Mild was tomato sauce, the Medium had some flavor and the hot had some habanero in it but no flavor. I would have named them Tomato Sauce, Mild, and Habanero Medium. I'm sure the "stars" this establishment has must come from something but it wasn't anything I saw or tasted on this trip. I give this establishment 2 stars for the decor and that it might be a good place to meet up with the friends before going somewhere else. read more
