My obsession with Boba tea is ever growing. I love trying different spots. Uncle Drink looked different so I figured I woul give it a shot. They do not have an extensive Boba tea menu, but where they lack there they make up for and other offerings. The smoothies, juices, açai bowls and more were all very intriguing. I feel like this place is really a hidden gem. I got a green tea passionfruit with a little bit of pearls and it was super tasty. There are a few chairs and places to sit, and I asked if I could do a little work while there. The person behind the counter was very pleasant and didn't mind that I was there at all. In the boba world, I think Uncle Drink wouldn't garner much attention in a place like Flushing, but it's well suited for this boba-starved stretch of Steinway, Astoria. Unlike many of the Asia derived bubble tea franchises throughout the borough, I think Uncle Drink is actually a standalone store. The boba lineup, especially their milk teas, feel average at best. Admittedly many of the drinks feel watered down, almost as if they're just using powder for their flavors. I know they're not a dedicated tea house, so I don't expect them to have naturally flavored teas and the tapioca balls are a tad too chewy for my taste. Where I think they excel is their real fruits and smoothies. They have some interesting combinations, such as the "spicy cold killer" that has kale, lemon, apple, orange, ginger, cayenne pepper, and mint. At $9 for a large, they're practically twice the cost of the teas. I also am not particularly huge on their acai bowls. I understand that this isn't a typical offering at a place like this; I'm all for variety and differentiation from the competition. The two times I've had it have been mediocre at best. It's definitely not premium quality but it does have a premium charge at $12 for a bowl. The PB in the mix doesn't add a whole lot and unfortunately I'd recommend giving it a hard pass. I think their best asset is the customer service. The folks behind the counter are usually full of smiles and seem happy to help. This wasn't always the case, a couple years ago they had the crabbiest guy working from behind the counter that it took me a a couple of years just to come back. I wouldn't go out of my way to be here, but if one is in the hood, then I think Uncle Drink could be a nice change of pace from usual options in the area. read more

I was in the area and this was the only juice bar I found. I wanted a protein smoothie so I got the Oatmeal protein smoothie they have... as someone that buys protein smoothies mostly every day this one wasn't good. I don't understand why it had ice, a protein smoothie usually doesn't have ice, frozen fruit is enough. When I'm done with the smoothie I had a PB craving so I asked the guy if he would mind giving me a little PB spoon, he tells me it's $1. Okay I pay for it, he gives me the equivalent of like 3 big spoons, it was a lot so I said "uh this is a lot" nicely... he replies with attitude "well throw it out". Two sips, it was over So when I get Boba I never get it from my Uncle I had to run a couple of blocks down to get to my second Bubble Tea stop of the day and the products weren't really too great, in fact it was one of my less fave bobas I had in NYC honestly. Great place for smoothies. They also have bubble tea, but I haven't tried it here yet. Service is pretty fast, which is appreciated because the place is small and can get crowded fast. They are a little pricey, but all the prices that I've found for smoothies in this area have gone up since the pandemic. The drink sizes are fairly large so I feel like I'm getting my money's worth. Today was my first time trying a Acai Bowl. I got the Almond Butter Acai Bowl which came out to $11.42 including tax. It came with bananas, strawberries, a huge scoop of almond butter, hemp granola, coconut flakes and of course, acai. It came out and it was delicious. I can see why people like acai bowls! The staff were super friendly and the bowl came out really quickly. There are seats here so it was nice to just sit down and eat. I saw a lot of people getting the acai bowls while I was eating. Bubble tea! After watching a flick, me and the gf set our sights on grabbing something warm to drink. After talking a little walk on Steinway street, we stumbled upon this place. The awning said 'bubble tea' on it, which sold us on giving this place a try. I think this place has lots of room to grow, at least when it comes to bubble tea. When we walked in, the tv menu behind the counter had none of the bubble tea options available to see. One has to actually approach the counter, and stare at the printed menu in front of the cashier. The menu was lacking in terms of bubble tea flavor choices. Also, it was unclear on the menu whether or not they serve drinks both hot and cold. Only after speaking to the cashier were we informed that only a few of the bubble tea options are also served hot. After placing our orders, we took seats right by the incredibly lime green wall. I was caught off guard by the sinking chair, which kind of made using the table a bit weird. Our orders came maybe 5 minutes after placing them. Both the ginger and taro bubble tea drinks were incredibly sweet. As I type this, I had to throw the rest of mine out because of how sweet it is. If they make the bubble tea options more visible, allow people to choose the sweetness levels, add more bubble tea flavors, and do something about the furniture, I may consider going back. read more

Their acai berry bowl is really fresh along with the smoothies and juices I've tried. My favorite to-go smoothie is the berry go and super green! It's 100% juice with no sugar or water added which was exactly what I'm looking for. I love juice but buying a juicer is too expensive and time consuming so it's nice to have this close for when I want a quick healthy juice with no clean up. I got the Dr. Green at the recommendation of the staff and the lemon helped mellow out all of the vegetable flavors and made it sweet. Will definitely be back. In retrospect, I should have probably not ordered a bubble tea from here considering that they are a drink place for healthier options. I got the hot milk tea with tapioca. The milk tea was not hot enough and the tapioca was too soft. I feel like tapioca should have a good chewy consistency but it felt like this places tapioca had been sitting in water too long. If this place is going to advertise bubble tea, then they need to step their bubble tea game up. I came back here to give it a second chance. It was after I got out of the gym and I needed something. I ordered a Mr. Green and my boyfriend ordered a Super Green. They were actually not bad. The flavors of the celery in my drink was not that strong because it tasted mostly like lemon. The only problem I had with the Mr. Green was that it was not cold. If they had shaken with ice and then poured it out, it would have been perfect. I was being helped by the lady with who I agreed to pay a higher price Just to subtract an item from a juicer and replace it with banana in the blender with no ice. I basically wanted :carrot, beet then blended with one banana...this guy came out of nowhere saying : No ! It's more work for us !! No, I'm not doing it !!!! as I was trying to explain to this guy that he could charge me the most expensive drink and size they have I did not care ! Came here for a quick drink and got my favorite boba match - thai iced tea. I was happy with the consistency of the boba and was only momentarily displeased with the sweetness of the tea. Its a health spot so their Thai tea is not entirely sugar laden. A plus if youre looking for that, I ended up happy with the difference. Errghhh. I want to like this place because it's so close to me, but I can't on sheer principle. This is strictly about their bubble tea! I've never had their smoothies. I guess Uncle Drink is the neighborhood spot for your pre-/post-workout smoothies, and/or bubble tea. Or, you know, refreshing beverage in general. I'll either get the Taro bubble tea or the regular milk tea with half sugar. The one scarring experience I had involved coming in one evening for my regular milk tea and the girl preparing it clearly ran out of tea. I saw her begin pouring and after half a second, just drops came out. She looked at the other guy working the register and asked, what I assume in English was, "there's no more tea, what do I do?" And you know what? She just went to the sink? water pitcher? what was in that corner?! All I know was that I got an EXTREMELY watered down milk tea. If you've read my previous review on Blo It Out, you know that I am non-confrontational because I can't deal with these types of interactions, so I just took it and left and didn't return for months. Months later, I eventually came back because, you know, that bubble tea desperation. And it was perfectly adequate. Until last night when I was finally told that when I ask for "less milk and more tea" in my regular sized drink, it wasn't possible because it was pre-mixed. Wtf, why has no one told me that before? It also sucked that an hour before closing they ran out of both bubbles and regular milk tea.
