Came here for my birthday dinner, arrived right before they opened the doors and a line nearly around the block had already formed. Luckily, communal seating had us at a table quickly. My sister and BIL have been here several times and raved about the buns. Who am I to turn down a good bun, being the birthday girl I got to choose the flavors opting for the softshell crab and Chinese eggplant ones. OMG, I thought I died and went to bun heaven. I could eat these for breakfast every morning. Both were amazing, but the soft shell crab had that crunchy texture on the pillow soft bun, I highly recommend not skipping these. One look at the ramen menu and my heart leapt at the duck ramen, I have a serious weakness for duck. The broth was full flavored with a hint of spiciness. A perfectly poached egg artfully displayed in the middle of the bowl, corn and green onions were texture and flavor balanced to the duck and broth. The ramen noodles themselves were curly and perfectly al dente and the star of the bowl. Portion sizes were perfect, not too big, especially since one should partake in some appetizers. I'm between a 4/5 Covid review: This place was recommended by one of my tour guides while in Denver so me and my mom had to try it! Upon arriving to the restaurant, it was kind of hard to figure out which one it was in the plaza because the name of the restaurant isn't very obvious from the front, but we were able to find our way. Customers are seated through the back entrance where they have tables set up 6 ft apart under an awning. In my head I was thinking I must've been crazy for eating ramen in 90 degree weather haha but that didn't stop me and I'm very glad I tried this place. Service was great and our server was so kind to me and my mom. Drinks were always taken care of and he explained the menu to us. For an appetizer, we ordered the soft shell crab buns which is one of their popular items. OMG it was delicious! The crab was fried to perfection and it was packed with flavor. The buns were definitely something unique to eat. I wish I ordered more to-go! For the main course, I ordered their spicy chicken ramen and my mom got the duck ramen. Use spicy bomb with caution because that is really spicy!! The broth is so rich! It is a pork and chicken sesame broth and the richness of it was just flavor-fully balanced. The noodles aren't homemade but it's properly cooked to a T. It's not too aldente or overly cooked. The toppings aren't overpowering but add just the right amount of flavor to the whole ramen. Very delicious. We went on a Wednesday and it was VERY busy. We didn't make a reservation which I might do next time especially if it's the weekend and you have more than 2 people in your group. Yum! Everything about Uncle is a 5 stars from me (besides maybe the long wait times, but definitely worth it!) I've dined at both locations but mostly frequent the highlands spot. At my most recent visit, we sat at the bar that overlooks the kitchen and it was such a fun experience! Everyone who works here is so friendly and the food is to die for. Best Ramen I've had in Denver, though not quite up to par as the ramen in San Francisco. I've come here on a few occasions because I love ramen. I've only ever been to Uncle with parties of 2-3 though the wait times can get really long especially during dinner. The wait staff in my latest visit were very attentive and came by a few times to check on us. Uncle has great outdoor seating in front of the store and in the back of the building which you access via an alley. I ordered the pork buns and Chashu Ramen. The pork buns are pretty delicious with sweet, fatty slices of pork, though the buns are a bit pricey in my opinion at $10 for 2 pieces. The Chashu ramen is decent in flavor. The broth is very umami, though needs a thicker body. The pork slice is sweet like the buns, the egg cooked well, but the arugula threw me off a little as its non-traditional to include and did not compliment the dishes flavor for me. Lastly, the noodles... they are solid tasting noodles, but the creases of the noodle reminds me of prepackaged noodles, while I prefer the doughy homemade noodles where the firmness of the noodle can be regulated. I heard great things about the ramen at Uncle. I had purposely seeked out a ramen restaurant and was excited to try the very popular spicy chicken ramen but it didn't live up to the hype. Coming here around 4PM on a Saturday, I was able to get seated right away. I saw in other reviews that people tend to wait for a table. The reason is, they don't have individual tables. They have long tables that you share with other guests. I had an amazing waiter who went above and beyond. Their service truly pleased my table. We would come back to try some other dishes. The spicy chicken ramen looked spicier than it was but ended up being very mild. I thought it lacked the kick I was looking for and I am a huge ramen fan. We also tried this green curry crab and it was really good. Similar to other curry we've had before but it was presented beautifully and had a really great combination of crunch and taste. This is my favorite ramen spot in Colorado. That is all. Wait, no that's not all. I think if you've never been here you should go ahead and make your way down. Be sure to be at the door by 4:30-4:45 so you don't have to wait hours in line. Once you're seated go ahead and order some buns (I've tried the pork, crab, and shrimp - recommend either). Then for the ramen go ahead and get the spicy chicken ramen but instead of with chicken get pork belly in it. It's the best of both worlds with the pork belly and contrasting spicy sesame broth. This comes with scallion, bean sprouts, and a perfect soft egg. I've also tried the traditional chashu, the duck ramen, and regular order of spicy chicken but my go-to is definitely the altered spicy chicken with pork. You can also mess around and get chicken AND pork with the spicy chicken broth which might cause a black hole to appear but you should try it regardless. Something I have yet to try is the wagyu, I normally sit at the bar, so I see them preparing it and it looks crazy good. The cocktails are also delicious, I've tried out the Modern Whiskey as well as the Midnight in Tokyo. Recommend both of these. All in all, Uncle is one of my favorite restaurants in the area and you should 1000% go check it out today! Well that was a whirlwind from start to finish in an amazing way. We arrived 15 mins early for our reservation and the friendly hostess asked if we could get us started with some water or a drink, so we decided on the candy paint. We then dove into ramen. We selected the duck and the spicy chicken. Everything from the noodles to the broth to the ingredients inside, it was all perfect and oh so good. We added some fried tofu, which added another level of taste and texture. Reason for the 5 stars isn't just from the food, it's from how the restaurant is running. We were impressed with how engaged every staff member was and how welcomed we felt. The entire dining area and bar area was super busy but yet we felt like the only ones being served. Our water was never empty and our plates were never left dirty. Even the bartender added another level of care as we were splitting our drinks, he created a split drink just for us, 2 drink glasses and garnished the same. That just blew us away that he noticed what we were doing and added to the experience. My friend and I arrived on a Friday night around 6 and the wait was quoted at 45 minutes to an hour. I was willing to wait. It ended up being about a 25 minute wait so we were quite happy about that! We started with the pork belly buns. So yum!!!! The steamed buns were perfect and not too dense or chewy. The pork belly was fantastically cooked and just a great cut of meat. The cucumbers were the perfect addition of crunchy texture and mild balance for the hoisin sauce. I LOVE THESE BUNS AND I CANNOT LIE. We decided to add in some edamame to our order after watching them getting cooked repeatedly and served. Sitting at the bar has great advantages. For the consumer and the restaurant. The edamame was sweet, spicy, and delicious. I am partial to the simple salted sort but this was new and exciting and I very much enjoyed it! On to the ramen. I ordered the chashu and my friend the spicy chicken. Both broths were pleasant. It wasn't too heavy which happens a lot with pork broths but it wasn't too light or lacking flavor. I would say that it was goldilocks just right. I get what people were saying about the non-traditional egg cooking. But let's be honest, we are already in a non-traditional hipster-ass ramen place. Let us be open to their ways. I accepted it and I loved it. The noodle density was perfect. The chashu was thick cut and delicious. The arugula was a weird addition but it worked. Something about the nutty and slightly bitterness of it added another layer to the flavor of the broth. Service was excellent. The food came out relatively quickly. They've definitely got a well oiled machine in this open kitchen. It was entertaining to watch and see my food come to life. I was impressed. I'll be back. read more
