KATSU RAMEN Have always ate around Havanas Little "K-Town" but have never tried Katsu Ramen until a couple weeks ago and were not dissapointed at all and have actually been coming regularly. The restaurant is small and pretty busy throughout the day but we never had to worry about getting seated, filled with lots of anime knick knacks and even mangas for you to read (Yes my otakus rush there right now haha) Service has always been good with being seated right away as well as getting our orders in and drinks come pretty quickly. The staff is always fast paced in a good way, we always get checked in, asked for refills, and get our check/ togo boxes in a timely manner, nothing over the top too which I like. Only thing Ive noticed is that we dont really get our meals out at the same time and have to wait a bit in between which is not really a big deal. Not much has changed over the last 7-8 years except one notable item. What was opened as a cozy izakaya turned into a full blown restaurant many years later. They definitely needed the space! Food is still delicious but I noticed on my last trip my narutomaki was missing. I usually grab a shoyu ramen and an onigiri. Hope they throw it in next time or even my beloved kamaboko! We were immediately greeted at the door and ended with a fond farewell from multiple people. The place feels like a giant izakaya by Japan's standards. Parking is a bit impossible too so definitely plan your trip. Everyone here is nice, super fast and down the earth. Highly recommend coming and enjoying the new menu as well! read more

In an evolving ramen scene in Denver, Katsu has its place. It's prices are competitive and it's popular among locals with fast service and quick turn around. They have a pretty extensive menu. I've had their tonkatsu several times to fill my cravings but it's average at best. It's very similar to the milky broth that's typical in American/Japanese ramen shops in the US. It's typically less hearty and rich than the tonkotsu broths you see in Japan or even places like California or New York with big Japanese population. I feel many broths here in Denver almost have this milky or cream element which is not authentic. Noodles are similar to most places, lack of bouncy and chew (could be lack of sodium and bicarb that's required in many ramen noodles). However I do like their currys and onigiri. I've never really been into curry. Every time I tried it before, it just didn't hit the mark. That changed when I discovered Japanese curry, and Katsu Ramen reminded me exactly why I've grown to love it. The Katsu Curry is the real standout. The sauce is rich and flavorful with just the right amount of spice, and it comes with a generous portion of rice. You can choose between chicken or pork katsu. I went with the chicken, and even though it's made with chicken breast, it was juicy, crispy, and perfectly cooked. We also tried the onigiri (tuna mayo and BBQ beef), which were both delicious, and the gyoza, which was fresh, pan-seared, and full of flavor. Everything tasted homemade and came out hot. We did try the Tonkotsu Ramen too. It was solid and clearly made with care, but it's the curry that really stole the show for us. I absolutely love coming to this place. It is so good. The Ramen is just always on point and definitely exactly what I need every single time I go it's so flavorful , the chili that they give you on the side of the bowl is not too spicy definitely not sweet. It's just such a good flavor enhancer. We left very very full and very, very satisfied. They have an interesting way. They do things there with these little buttons on the side of the table for service or water and you just kind of press them and they're on their way. I think it's very cool and innovative everyone that came to our table was very nice and I just wanna try everything on their menu. It is so so good. This place was a genuine surprise. I wasn't expecting much from a strip mall ramen spot, but it exceeded my expectations. I had the Japanese curry here, not ramen, and it immediately brought me back to Japan. That same crispy katsu with the rich, slightly sweet curry that you get all over Tokyo. The flavors were spot on, and for the price point, it was impressive. Most everyone else at the table went with poke bowls. No complaints there either, and telling sign - no leftovers. When a table clears their plates, that's usually a good indicator that the kitchen is doing its job. What sealed the deal was that we got seated quickly. No waiting around for 45 minutes like some of these trendy spots that think a line out the door means quality. Sometimes you want good, affordable food without the hassle. Busy on a Sunday night usually bodes well. We were seated right away and shown two little buzzer devices that had 6 total buttons that we could press for service, hot chili oil, water, etc., which I hadn't seen before but thought was pretty cool. The menus are all underneath the clear table top so no need for paper menus or QR codes (also smart). I usually go for a spicy ramen, but the only spicy one on the menu was chicken and I usually prefer pork, so I just got the tonkatsu with pork. It definitely needed spice so we buzzed for chili oil, but had to buzz it 3 times for anyone to come by. Once I added the chili oil to mine it was a LOT better. First time at Katsu Ramen, and won't be the last. We've typically avoided this place because the parking is nutty and it's busy, but we finally decided to check it out and we understand the hype. For a place that is always packed with a line, this restaurant knows how to turn tables over quickly without making you feel rushed. You check in via the kiosk at the front of the restaurant and it sends you a text with your place in line. When it's finally your time, they seat you quickly and come over to ask what you want to drink. Then they explain that you order via the paper on your table and then use the buzzer to indicate that you're ready for the server to come take your order. The menu was bigger than I expected, spanning beyond just ramen. There are plenty of onigiri choices both for meat/seafood eaters and vegetarians. There was also a decently extensive sushi menu. I got the vegetarian miso ramen and it was delicious, very fresh and full of a variety of veggies. While I'm generally not a miso fan, this one was rich and flavorful. We started off with two onigiri - Salmon with garlic soy butter and Miso butter. They are seasoned generously with furikake and the protein is minced inside so it is easily missed. They are good onigiri and definitely filling. Next up was the Black Garlic tonkatsu. The garlic flavor is strong with a ton of noodles and decent sized pork belly pieces. The egg is not soft boiled at all, it is a full on hard boiled soy egg. I appreciated that there was a Naruto slice as that is my favorite additional to ramen. The Pork Katsu Don is GIANT with a hefty portion of Katsu and rice. My husband and I shared all these dishes and we had at least 2 leftover lunch portions. Damn gooood! My girl, a friend and I went here from the airport and we were starving. We just yelped this place and first one that popped off when you search soups lol. The ambiance was buzzling and full of color. I never been to Osaka Japan but it does reminded me of that from movies. The customer service was outstanding and cannot say more. I didn't expect Colorado to have an awesome ramen place like this :) I ordered their shoyu ramen, which is a soy sauce based soup with pork strips and egg ramen. The ingredients were fresh as you can get and really hearty in a cold weather like this. The most exciting part of our food trip are their onigiris.. I think those bad boys stole the show.. it was sooo gooood! Our party of four went to Katsu Ramen for lunch this week. We ordered two miso ramen, two Katsu Don (over rice with egg and onion), and pork gyoza on the side. The miso ramen was the highlight -- flavorful and genuinely delicious. Unfortunately, the Katsu Don was a major letdown. It looked nothing like the menu photo and had almost no flavor. The rice was pasty, topped with beaten egg, and the pork cutlet breading was completely soggy instead of crispy. It tasted like everything had been cooked together, which ruins the texture. The cutlet should have been fried separately and placed on top of the dish after cooking to keep it crisp. If I were redesigning the dish, I'd suggest making it more like a stir-fry with snow peas, mushrooms, carrots, onions, cabbage, and oyster sauce. Deep-fry the cutlets to a golden brown, slice them about an inch thick, place them on top, drizzle with sauce, and serve the rice on the side -- no egg-and-rice mush. I had this recipe in Seattle, and it was remarkable. The gyoza was also disappointing. It wasn't crispy at all, soggy and fell apart when we attempted to dip it in the sauce whether using chopsticks or a fork. It looked it it was cooked on one side on the flat top versus put in a deep frier or a pan with oil in it. It was definitely undercooked. On a positive note, the service was very good -- friendly and attentive throughout the meal. Overall, great ramen and service, but the Katsu Don and gyoza need serious improvement. read more

Delicious and quick! We had a 15 minute wait and it went by quick. We had the gyoza to start which were crispy and yummy! We had miso soup and my husband ordered the chicken katsu. We tried a few of the onigiri - the shrimp one, BBQ, salmon and garlic butter and I had the #9 - don't remember the name. Each one had a unique flavor, a good umami flavor. I wish there was more shrimp in the shrimp one. They were difficult and messy to eat, but definitely worth it. The service was great and so quick! We recently had a great dinner at Katsu Ramen which is in this busy little Korean strip mall. Parking was a bit challenging since it was packed on a Saturday night around 8:30 but we got seated right away. We ordered chicken karaage, black garlic tonkotsu ramen, tonkotsu shoyu, and pork katsu don and everything was good! The katsudon was huge- definitely a generous portion. Between the shoyu tonkotsu and black garlic ramen, I definitely liked the black garlic better because it had way more flavor. The place has a nice, charming Japanese vibe, and the service was efficient. After dinner, we checked out Snowl next door which was packed at the time for some sweet dessert and it did not disappoint. If you're in the area, I definitely recommend trying both spots. read more
