I've been a fan of Los Dos Potrillos, but the new menu is a real disappointment. My first experience here actually wasn't great--we sat for quite a while without being acknowledged and eventually left. But I gave Los Dos another chance, and I was really glad I did. What won me over was that the menu went beyond the usual Colorado Mexican restaurant combination plates. There were interesting, more traditional dishes, generous portions, good margaritas, and food that made Los Dos worth coming back to. The carne en su jugo was a particular favorite and one of the things I looked forward to ordering. The crispy chicharrón burrito was another standout: big, meaty pieces of crispy pork with a milder green chile that worked beautifully. There were also several more interesting taco options that gave you choices beyond the usual suspects. Unfortunately, the carne en su jugo is gone. The crispy chicharrón preparations are gone, with chicharrón apparently surviving only in a single dish served in salsa verde. Several of the taco options are gone as well. Taken together, it feels like much of what made the old menu interesting has been replaced by safer, more pedestrian, gringo-friendly fare. This visit I ended up with a combination of a soft relleno, bean and cheese burrito, and chicken enchilada. Everything was perfectly edible, but pretty forgettable. The soft chile relleno was decent, although a little greasy. What's frustrating is that Los Dos had won me over precisely because it offered more than the standard Mexican-American restaurant menu. The new menu feels smaller, safer, and considerably less distinctive. I really hope this is temporary and that some of those more interesting dishes eventually make their way back. read more

Stopped in for a lunch meeting at 12:00, sat on Patio (only 1 other table) outside, and its 1:00 and we had our food served after 30 mins of wait to order! The bigger disappointment it arrived COLD, Fajitas hard and cold, rice and beans cold, homemade tortillas cold! I actually went up to hostess and asked where our waiter was at and she didn't know! I asked for hot tortillas and it's now 20 mins later and no tortillas!! A total of 1.5 hrs of frustration!! A classic Americanized Mexican restaurant that lacks any spices of flavoring. Had their #13 combo. The enchilada was a corn tortilla rapped around bland chicken with a red sauce - not a baked enchilada with the appropriate sauce. The taco was equally bland with just the meat. I do not know why this place is popular? The staff appeared to be incapable of smiling. We were not asked how spicy we wanted - apparently only tasteless is available. I travel to this area at least once a month and I'm striving to find a regular place for my monthly travels to Denver. This spot was less than a mile from my hotel and I wanted to trial... First, I noticed that they carry several additive free tequila choices! I was excited to enjoy a couple of pours and possibly some food. It took several minutes to get an order....after the bartender acknowledged my arrival. Once he asked for my order and I immediately asked for a pour over ice (simple)....it took several more minutes to actually get my drink. The common theme was that he was acknowledging all the regular customers (by name) and catering to their orders and conversations. Once I caught on, I paid attention more....regulars got immediate attention and anyone new had to wait....one person sat for 20-minutes at the bar before his presence was acknowledged. I asked for another pour and included that I wanted my tab with the point. 10- minutes for the pour and another 15-minutes for the tab..... I wanted to make this a regular spot.....nope minimum tip and never coming back. Long term success is treating everyone with the same service. Best of luck. More time working the orders in front of you instead of yacking your jaws and "look at me" mixology drink actions to look cool. The only reason I gave 2-stars was for the tequila options. I love chile rellenos and on a recommendation I tried one here as part of the # 10 combo. The combo included an enchilada, beef and bean burrito and one chili rellenos. The enchilada was good as well as the burrito but the star of the meal was definitely the rellenos. Lots of gooey cheese with a large chili in a crunchy delicious wrapping. Probably one of two as far as best chili rellenos I've ever had. Everything was good, the chips and salsa were good as well as the chili that smothered my combo plate. The service was excellent, our waters were regularly refilled and a fresh batch of chips and salsa to replace the now consumed ones . I was told by my lunch mates that the house margaritas were very good but again I was the designated driver so no joy for me . This was our first time at the Colorado location. Very clean and nice inside. We were seated right away. We decided to order a pitcher of house margs $33 and well worth it.They were good! Not too sour. The food was all good! Crispy taco shell and tostada. The green chili and red enchilada sauce was delicious. The food was a bit pricey, but I'm sure it is because of the location. Dined at Los Dos Portillos for an early dinner and it's my first time back at the formerly known as Hacienda (Uncle Julio's). The restaurant is a lot brighter and warmer feeling inside. Service was really good. After being seated the hostess then radios the waiter or waitress that a table was seated. Love this idea because they show up right away with chips and salsa. Our waiter took our drink order and let us look at the menu. I got the chicken taco salad and my husband got the beef taquitos. The food came out within 10 minutes. The taco salad was a good size and you won't leave feeling hungry. I would recommend for sure if you like a good salad. I'm pretty sure this place gets busy on a Friday or Saturday night. read more

My new favorite Mexican restaurant! And the best part? They are local and family owned! Everyone is super friendly and are knowledgeable of the menu. If you come here you have to get the chili relleno nachos. Don't make the mistake of not getting it. This dish is one of the reasons why I keep coming back. Their margaritas are also the best I've had! For our entree I've only had the steak fajitas which are also a 10/10. This restaurant so good that my partner who typically does not enjoy Mexican food, now craves to come here! We will be coming back very often! read more

This place was good but left a lot to be desired. We had drinks and food. The staff were incredible and super friendly! The service wasn't bad at all. The place is super cute and nicely decorated. They did a great job with the decor! The drinks were amazing! We got the pomegranate drink and the Cantarito. Both drinks were amazing! They were strong and flavorful. The food was disappointing. I ordered 4 street adobada tacos and they were lacking in flavor. The tortillas weren't packing a punch, neither was their salsa. The cilantro and onion was a bit dry, which I assume happened due to my tacos sitting under the heat lamp. I added all the limes on the plate to a taco, and I even had to add salt, just to get it to a better place. They were fine. I wouldn't get them again and would try something else. We also got the Camarones Los Dos Portrillos dish. The shrimp was decent, you can't got go wrong with bacon and shrimp! However, as a whole the plate was just lacking something to make it a stand out. I think this is a great place for happy hour! Maybe an appetizer. Stopped in on a Friday for late lunch. I had been when it was Hacienda and they did great brightening up the place and I think made a bigger center bar. With that said the booths are all soooooo tight. They have big booths that I think feed 8-10 but I saw a group so scrunched in. I think the builder missed measured because you can barely fit your feet in without kicking someone across from you. I ordered the steak and shrimp and the shrimp had a hot sauce it came in. It was very hot. The steak had no flavor whatsoever not even salt and pepper and was so grisly with a very hard knife to cut. I ate a few bites and just ate rice and beans. Service/vibe: We were so excited for Los dos to open as we have seen the construction going on for months! We went on a Saturday night around 5pm so prime time. The wait was an hour and a half but they got us in around 45 minutes in! The whole vibe is pretty cute we sat in the bar area. Our waiter was really nice and on top of it. Food: The salsa was spicy (even for us heat levers so use carefully!). The queso was perfect could have eaten the whole bowl to myself. Steak fajita tacos were amazing! First timer. They have taken the closed Hacienda restaurant and remodeled it. New tables and furnishings. The restaurant is cleaner, brighter and fresher. It has an "authentic" feel to it. Mostly all the servers are Latino. The menu has lots of Mexican food choices and the food items appear to be traditional. So how was the food? It was good. Yes, they do offer free chips and salsa. Hmmm, is it pricey? Yes and No. In today's world you would call it moderate. Most of the food items are priced in the high teens and twenties. I believe we all have gotten used to those numbers for a nice, not fancy, Mexican food restaurant. What about the Tequila? Lots of top shelf tequila, The good stuff runs in the $16 to $21 range for a cocktail. They have a nice selection of house made beers. I enjoyed a light colored lager. I'll return. read more

We wanted an adventure and were craving Mexican food, so we decided to try this place. It was quite the hike from where I live but worth the drive. It was Saturday afternoon and good weather to boot, making the patio for this location a popular choice. Inside the place was clean, busy and brightly lit. We were seated at a table near the entrance. Our server was kind, knowledgeable, and accommodating. He really went above and beyond. This place does the whole birthday singing thing and put a sombrero on the birthday person and take a photo. We didn't experience it personally but watched the whole production from our table. It created a welcoming, happy atmosphere all around. After we reviewed the extensive menu, it was a tough choice to place our orders. So many options. They brought over warm tortilla chips that were heavenly. I liked them for the fact that they weren't salty. I liked them so much that we devoured a basket and then they refilled it. They also brought over salsa. The salsa was way too spicy for us. So the brought over a mild salsa that was still too spicy for our taste. We are wimpy when it comes to spice. For our entrees my friend ordered the steak fajitas and I ordered the steak burrito. They were both delicious and more than enough food. On both meals we did find the cut of meat a bit tough to chew. The fajitas were plentiful and hot. They were your typical fare. The steak burrito was covered in green chili sauce that I found a bit spicy. I also wish it had had more cheese and beans. I typically have only been to the Highlands Ranch location. I do feel as though that location had better food quality and an overall better experience. I ordered chicken fajitas and a house marg. The marg had only a few specks of salt on the rim which wasn't a huge deal. The fajitas were very oily which I typically did not have that issue at the other location. The server was also EXTREMELY rude. I still tipped very well and panned it off to him having a bad day, but honestly it really impacted my experience. He was almost dismissive in a way, snatching the menus away, not really acknowledging us, everything we asked or ordered he seemed upset by. I was bringing my friend here for the first time since I told them how much I loved the other location and I feel it ruined their experience and opinion of los dos which is unfortunate. I went to Los Dos Potrillos expecting Mexican food and accidentally attended what felt like a playoff game. The place was so loud I half expected someone to start the wave. The food was... fine. Very fried. My taco salad hovered somewhere just above Taco Bell on the culinary ladder, which is technically an achievement. To be fair, the service was great--friendly and attentive the whole time. Unfortunately the air quality was less great. Someone nearby ordered fajitas and the smoke plume was so intense I started coughing and had to step outside like I'd wandered into a campfire demonstration. I frequent the Parker and Littleton restaurants and this is the worst location I've been to, I gave them 2 tries since they opened. We had bad service at the bar tables, our server wouldn't come back to check on us or take our drink order until I had to get the manager. The restaurant is beautiful though! I've been looking forward to not having to drive to the County line or the Highlands Ranch location and gave the new location a chance. Los Dos has many locations across south Denver and I'm so glad that they took the old Hacienda and turned it into a new location. Their drinks can be a little bit expensive but Monday through Thursday from 4 to 6p they do have house margarita, wine, and beer on happy hour. So glad the former Hacienda location is replaced with a Los Dos! Have been to the Parker location several times but think this will be the new go to. The location has more seating options and seems more spacious than other locations. We sat at the Bar and Wilmer took great care of us. We ordered my go to chile relleno nachos with a side of carne asada. They asked how we wanted our meat cooked, which was new to me, as other locations don't ask this. The steak came out perfectly medium rare. The margaritas were also delightful. Be sure to check the website against the cocktail menu as several drinks appear on the web but aren't on the menu. While I was a Hacienda fan, I was happy to give Los Dos a try and I'll have to admit I have not been disappointed. The food is always excellent. I even tried their breakfast burrito during this last outing and loved it. Along with that, the drinks are excellent. If you like Mezcal, I'd highly recommend the Mezcalita. This location recently opened in April and was just as busy as their other locations. The estimated wait wasn't bad, and we lucked out because open seating was available at their large bar area. The servers were busy but continued to check in on us. The Elegante margarita was strong--Espolon Reposado tequila, citronage, and Grand Marnier. If you plan on drinking more than one margarita, I suggest getting one of their pitchers to share since one 16oz drink is $15 and the pitcher is $45. My chile relleno plate was tasty and filling. I am glad there is a closer Los Dos. I will be returning. read more

Los Dos is my go to for good Mexican food in the Denver metro area. We usually go to the Parker location because that is the closest to our house, however this new Denver location is close to my work. YAY!! I am so excited to have a new location so close to me. I just wish they had lunch specials. That is my only complaint. Other than that their staff is super friendly, the food is delicious and the quality holds up with the other locations and they have turned this building around so it is now open and vibrant. They have truly made a name for themselves here in the Denver area and I am here for it. Out of all of the restaurants of los dos potrillos, this is the absolute best one. The food is better, the services better, everything is better at this location. This is the only Los Dos potrillos location that I come to and that I bring family from out of town and if we host a party. . My food came out on time. Exactly the way I order it. Same with my drink. My server was wonderful. And the manager came back to see if everything was OK. And so that makes it Absolutely number one in my book. This one is the one to come to. thank you.
