I used Uncle Bub's for catering an event last week. There were two different menus I could choose from - the Covid catering menu which came with each dinner pre-packaged or the regular catering menu. We went with the regular menu and had three meats - brisket, pulled pork and pulled chicken. Our sides, cornbread, baked beans, mac n cheese & coleslaw were all tasty. We also had a variety of desserts which were all delicious - lemon squares, caramel apple squares and peach cobbler. The catering was delivered on time and was quickly set up. Everything was included in the package - plates, plastic ware, etc. I didn't over order, but there was plenty of food left over for people to come get seconds. Delicious food all around. I would definitely use them to cater another event. read more

I was so disappointed that their pot roast sandwich, for the month of July, had so little meat. I don't think it was even 5 oz, as 4 of my bites in the roll had no meat. When I brought my disappointment to the manager's attention, he said it can be upgraded with another 3 oz, not sure what that would cost. Had a good flavor, just was hopeful I would get 2 meals out of it at that price. I did take the broccoli salad home and the green beans were good too. The grilled onions were more like onion strings, thin and crispy. I'm not likely to make the 35 minute pilgrimage anytime soon. read more

I am a real BBQ chicken fan and I love the chicken dinner at Uncle Bubs. The chicken is always moist, even the breast meat. You get a half chicken with the meal so you get to taste both white and dark meat. The sauce they use is perfect and there are always a few bottles of various sauces in your table. You also get two sides and a piece of cornbread with your dinner. I will say the cornbread is moist and almost has a sweet flavor to it, definitely one of the best cornbreads I ever had. The Side Dishes are also Fantastic... And They Have there Own BBQ Sauces...Which are Fantastic.. Uncle Bub's catered our wedding ceremony+reception this weekend - and I'm incredibly happy we picked them! For starters - you should know that they were very friendly, and easy to work with. While I don't think we were exceptionally difficult, we did throw some curveballs: weird questions about what's in the food (for guests with rare dietary restrictions), allowing us to serve an appetizer cooked by the family, working in a venue without a huge prep space. The staff easily handled everything, and never made us feel like a burden. Marie, especially, made things so easy for me! On top of that - the food was wonderful. We have heard *so* many good things from family and friends! No one can believe just how tasty things were, and how much food there was! (And, when I told a few of them the price - they were even more surprised at what a great value it was). To top it all off - I have a fridge full of leftover BBQ! Everything about Uncle Bub's was a pleasant experience - phone calls and emails, tastings (there were two!), setup, billing, on-site staff - they were fantastic. Decided to support local and got their Reuben Sandwich, which was a special on St Patty's day. It was subpar... nothing to write home about. It was expensive ($21) for a sandwich that had, literally five little slivers of corned beef and fries. The sandwich was soggy and the corned beef to dressing to sauerkraut to cheese ratios were completely off. First time and last time trying them. Uncle Bubs has been high on our list and finally decided to check it out on the 4th of July. As expected, they were quite busy that day and were out of quite a few meats and sides. Luckily, they still had their ribs, pulled pork and burnt ends so we ordered entrees of all three. If you haven't been, you order at the counter and then sit down and they'll deliver your food. We waited quite a while for our food, about 30 minutes or so, which was surprising. But considering it was a holiday, it might have been the fact that there were a lot of take-out orders competing with us. Overall, these were some of the best ribs I've had in a while, and coming with two sides, it was a fairly reasonable price. From the sides, the broccoli salad was our favorite, but the baked beans were decent as well. This place was so good that we decided to go again this week and it did not disappoint. We decided to call in a to-go order and they were on top of it when I got there, ensuring we received everything including the sauces we want. Very thorough. I've heard of this place from the Naperville Rib Fest and thought it would be a good idea to take my dad here for lunch. The place was very clean and it was early in the day so it was nice and quiet so we could catch up. We ordered the sampler for two people so we could try a little of everything. The pulled pork was my favorite but everything was AMAZING. Fall off the bone kinda meat! I ordered their lunch special which came with a sandwich, a side and a drink. A very good bargain for some very delicious food. I ordered my usual beef brisket sandwich and it did not disappoint. The brisket was tender, well seasoned and went great with their BBQ sauce. My side was the fried Mac & cheese and it was also very tasty. I would order both again. They provided linens that perfectly tied into our color scheme and the food was delish - everyone said so! Pretty good ribs a bit tuff needs more bbq but they do give you some on the side for it and makes them better. The brisket okay corn bread good but I didn't like the have piece of corn in it. Everyone absolutely raved about the food we had served at our wedding! Uncle Bubs was so amazing and the perfect food for us! We worked with Heather and Marie in the restaurant throughout the planning process and they were both amazing-they were extremely responsive and highly organized. We had to unfortunately postpone our wedding because of COVID, and they really made all the changes extremely seamless and easy. They had so many options for the small details, and everything looked so beautiful and matched out venue perfectly. We decided to eat our dinner privately during cocktail hour and they were super accommodating to that which was such a great thing for my husband and I. So sad to say, the ribs were inedible. After reading a stellar review in Suburban Life newspaper for Uncle Bub's, we thought we'd try it. Well, big mistake. After spending $71.64 (overpriced food), the ribs that we were so looking forward to, were tougher than beef jerky. Actually, the meat was so overcooked it resembled wood. Such a bummer. So wanted to like this place. The cornbread was good, mashed potatoes were okay, coleslaw was flavorless and the baked beans were very soupy. Not a big fan of super smoky BBQ sauce either. Great food, fun atmosphere! Love the half-rack rib meal with beans and fries. The mac and cheese could be cheesier, but the other sides are good. All the barbecue sauces are bomb, top shelf flavors. Cornbread is moist. Ribs have a sufficient amount of meat. We haven't tried all the desserts yet, but the chocolate cake was fine. The atmosphere is very fun, warm and authentic. We used Uncle Bub's to cater our recent wedding of about 250 guests and we honestly could not have made a better choice!  Every step of the planning process was simple and smooth, including postponing our wedding by an entire year due to COVID.  I love that there was a wide selection of table settings and linens and that they were able to accommodate our vegetarian and vegan guests.  On the day of the event they were on time, professional, and everything went seamlessly.  We received so many compliments on how delicious the food was from our friends and family and have even had friends ask for the restaurant name so that they could go eat there again!  I highly recommend using Uncle Bub's to cater your event! read more

Marie, the catering manager, was so professional and knew everything about our venue from assisting us in table configurations to the timing of the food for our 50th wedding anniversary party. First the service was fast and friendly. The restaurant is clean with spacious seating. I ordered the brisket sandwich and had fries and fried Mac and cheese as my two sides. The price with a drink was $13.50. The fries could use sea salt and were not crisp. I have had better fries at McDonalds. The fried Mac and cheese was just a disappointment and dry. Now I thought the star of the show would have been the brisket sandwich but it was also disappointing. Finally I had an iced tea as my drink and was expecting a choice of sweet or unsweetened like in the south. Not so great either. The ribs are ok/ good, which means better than franchises like Famous Daves and Dickey's (or whatever it's called). But, I'd love Uncle Bubs to tell me the ribs they win contests with are the same ribs the serve at their restaurant. They serve babybacks at Uncle Bubs, who wins contests with babybacks? The ribs pull right off the bone and they do have good flavor, but they should be better. If you're going to put up your credentials, serve the same damn thing that won you those credentials. It's like McDonald's winning a hamburger competition serving USDA PRIME Angus beef. I do love their cornbread - it is very very good. Their mac-n-cheese ball is plain and bland. The Brunswick stew is personally, too sweet, but I appreciate their effort. Now, the Burnt ends are a joke. They need to get their ass down to Austin, TX to see what a burnt end is (or even St Louis). What they serve are cubes of dry brisket slobbered in sauce. Look at the enclosed picture, how many ends do you see burnt? More so, you can tell by the burnt ends the brisket isn't worth trying. It is too dry, it should taste like meat candy, not hardened steak. Anyway, this place is about as good as it gets for this area. Which is why Chicago isn't known for BBQ. read more

The positive: staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere is great. I liked their selection of music better than a lot of other places. Plenty of seating and even some oversized booths for large parties. Some of the menu items are on the expensive side, but others - like the sandwiches - are very affordable. The negative: the food. I'm sorry to say it, but almost everything was a disappointment. Pulled pork sandwiches: good but my mother and I both ordered this, and both of us found bones in our sandwiches. Cornbread: Mis-named, as it is NOT corn bread. It was way too soft (no grit) and too sweet. It was more like cake. Baked beans: Not bad, but I could go to the grocery store and buy a can of baked beans and get the same taste/quality. (Compare this to Todd's bbq baked beans from Marianos - which has different types of beans and burnt ends and is heavenly.) Sweet potato fries: Very greasy. My mom disliked them so much that she exchanged them for other sides. Corn on the cob: Not good. You could tell just by feeling it that it was not fresh. It's like they made it that morning and then it sat out all day. I tried to salvage it by putting butter on it, but even then it was very flavorless. 1/2 bbq chicken: Tasted good, but it's not a bbq chicken. It's a roasted chicken with bbq sauce on it. Brisket: I could tell by looking at it that the texture was weird - definitely not what I'm used to when I think of brisket. Mac and cheese: the online menu says "fried" mac and cheese, but I could have sworn the actual menu just says "mac and cheese." In any case, it's just not what we were expecting. read more

Uncle Bub's is one of those places I could have sworn I've reviewed before. I've been here quite a few times in the past decade or so. You might be asking, what is Uncle Bub's? Well, Uncle Bub's is a barbeque joint in an old wooden building in downtown Westmont off of Cass avenue just a little bit South of the train tracks. Immediately noticeable with a cartoon pig on the sign Uncle Bubs is well known to almost everyone who has passed down Cass avenue in the last decade or so. Many years ago I stopped in the first time and have been back well over a dozen times since. Uncle Bub's is an old wooden building and as soon as you pull up you'll smell the food coming from within. Once you enter the building it's really more like an old house with a front door and then several halls where the seating is located with an order counter hiding in the Southwest corner. I'll go over the good and the bad with Uncle Bub's and allow you to decide for yourself whether it's worth stopping here. We'll start with the positives. Uncle Bub's has some pretty excellent sides, the fried mac and cheese balls are one of my favorites. Originally you got one huge ball of fried mac and cheese, now it comes in several smaller fried balls. The BBQ sauces at the table are tasty. They have Green River in their soda fountain, compared to some other local BBQ places they have adequate parking and quite a few places to sit. And their food can be excellent with a nice smokey flavor. Now let's go on to the down sides of Uncle Bubs, first off the consistency. I've had chicken, pulled pork and many other things here. Sometimes there's a great smokey flavor grilled into the food, but more often than not it's lacking. Sure, you can cover it up with BBQ sauce and have that overpower the flavor, but then you're missing something. It seems like sometimes stuff is left to smoke a lot longer than others.While there's lots of seats, they can be uncomfortable to sit in with wooden hard booths. This isn't a problem for a short time, but I've had orders take a while and it's just not a place you want to be spending 40 minutes sitting at. This eatery with a cartoonish pig for a mascot is a place you can go hog wild with excellent appetizers and competent barbeque. When busy, the long wait can turn your visit into a bit of a boar and the due to the hard booths it's not a comfortable place to wallow around and wait. However, this shouldn't HAM-per you from visiting. My feelings on Uncle Bub's are mixed and I don't mean to swine about the place. It's always clean, well maintained and never a pig-pen like other restaurants in the area. The quality appetizers will make you squeal and that's no hogwash. It's a good place to stop whether you're a dude or a babe, the prices are reasonable so whether you're rich or pork you should be able to afford the food here without breaking your piggy bank. So I'll give Uncle Bub's three stars, it's snout the best BBQ joint in the area, but it's worth visiting. Oink you very much for reading. read more

Just not working. I am not in the restaurant business but I would think hot food is served hot and cold food cold. Seems logical. Not here. What I did like is that there are 3 doors you pass through to get into the restaurant. I like that, no one gets blasted by frigid air on a cold winter's day. There are markings on the floor to direct you to place you order and then find a seat. There are daily specials. Now the reality. We ordered 2 pulled pork sandwiches and one beef stew special, served on noodles. The stew was very thin, likened to Lipton soup by the person who had ordered it. She took most of it home. She did like the corn bread. I found the pulled pork was not served hot and there was just too much bun for the amount of meat placed on it causing it to taste dry. I did add BBQ sauce, didn't help much. The other person who had ordered the pulled pork tried to eat the meat, but couldn't even do that. She tried 1 French fry, and passed on the cole slaw. She ended up just wrapping the meal in the paper that it is served on and had nothing to eat. The 2 fried mac and cheese balls that I had were the best part of these 3 meals, but again, I thought they would be hot. This was a big fail. In reviewing the other reviews, it appears that this is a hit or miss type of place. BIG MISS today. However, if you are so inclined, try it for yourself, you may get lucky. read more

For the longest time I had only ever enjoyed Uncle Bub's BBQ at Chicago festivals and some random concerts held in the city close to that park off Lake street. Every time I looked forward to having Bub's BBQ and it was always a treat. Then one day the possibility of having lunch here presented itself while on the way to Aurora for some outlet shopping. My dreams of a five star barbeque meal were shattered. I'll refrain from the play by play. We ordered a bit of everything. Really. Four dined and shared everything together. Everything was pretty average, as good as stuff purchased from your corner char house. I was bummed. I also thought for an afternoon meal, an afternoon with steady business, the table should not have been so sticky. But this observation has more to do with how or what they use to clean off tables. With a family, the place can be a fun time and a point of interest for photos sake. But if seeking serious barbeque, I have to admit you'll have to keep looking. The brisket sandwich I ordered was cold and my husband's pulled pork sandwich was cold and was too fatty and hard inedible pieces were included. Also asked the cashier about the birthday email that I received recently, and that I can't find the email and Accidentally erased it. He said they can look it up and could honor it. My Birthday is December 3rd. When we went back to order our meals asked a different cashier about the email. She had went and got the manager. While the manager was looking it up. She told me the offer for the birthday email was not longer valid. That I either used it already or it expired. Which was not possible. Very bad serve. We ordered the BBQ platter for 2. I believe it was around $24 before tax - such a good deal and just another perk to being in the suburbs. The sampler includes 3 spare ribs, rib tips, a quarter pound each of pulled pork, brisket, a wing and a thigh, cornbread, and your choice of 2 sides. Good food at good prices.
