Uncle Bub's. The name connotes pretty much what you are going to find here. Simple food, simple place. While the ribs and the broasted chicken are good, the sides are just okay. Maybe it's the fact that they come in Styrofoam cups even if you eat in that bugs me . . .or maybe it's that the green beans look (and taste) like they just came out of the can but I've had all the sides and best is the potato salad. If you eat in- you are greeted at the door by someone who asks if you have ever been there before, handed a number and led to a table while being explained to how it works. The booths are simple wood (think a step above a picnic table) covered with a cheery gingham table cloth with a roll of brown paper towels to serve as napkins. Once you know where your table is, you leave it to go up to the counter to place your food order. You get your drinks but then are directed to go back to your table to sit and someone brings your food out. The food comes up pretty quickly depending on how busy it is. White plastic plates with the entree surrounded by those previously mentioned Styrofoam cups with your sides. Eh. The whole presentation could be better but I guess it is what it is. A full slab of ribs is about $20 and half a chicken will run you about $10. The ribs are pit smoked, very tender and come with a couple of different sauces to jazz them up. The spicy sauce has just the right amount of bite. My friend had the pulled pork and the beef brisket and I've nibbled at those and they are quite good. Looking for a challenge? Uncle Bub's has one for you. They have a 6 pound sandwich made up of all of their meats (pulled pork, hotlink sausage, smoked ham, pulled chicken, beef brisket and smoked bologna, They put it on a kaiser roll and top it all with cheddar cheese and BBQ sauce. Served with fries, and two mac and cheese balls if you can eat it all (including the sides) in 45 minutes- the sandwich is free and you get a t-shirt and your pic on the "wall of fame". There's plenty of good BBQ places in the area. As it relates to the western burbs, Uncle Bub's is hard to top. I've been eating here since 1998, although there was a period when I was unable to go there. However, I've made my way back a couple times of recent and here are two key improvements: 1. RIP TIPS!!!!!! They are now on the menu. I gave them a try & was VERY satisfied. If rip tips are your thing, you're safe ordering them here. They do serve them dry so you can take their house sauce or add your own should you decide to do so. So many places can't do them properly 2. Smoked Prime Rib is a once in a while special. When I got mine recent, it was outstanding. No bone and around 12 oz.. Mashed potatoes & gravy and green beans went well with it. Too bad it's not a weekly special although I probably wouldn't be able to eat it weekly. Like the whole hog on Thursdays, the Prime Rib also sells out when it's on the menu. I don't like the idea of giving a not-very-favorable review to Uncle Bub's but a place can live on it's reputation for only so long before previously loyal customers get fed up and complain, or worse, stop being loyal customers. We've been coming to Bub's for what seems like a good twenty years if not longer. Ordering has always been simple for me, either a pulled pork sandwich or a burger. I've been greatful for the two side dishes that accompany the meal and the fair prices. My latest experience really threw me for a loop. I decided that I wanted to try some bbq and had my mind on ordering the sample platter which included pulled pork, ribs, chicken and brisket. Since there was a selection of sauces on the table it didn't occur to me to order the meal without sauce. That was a mistake on my part. My sides of french fries and mashed potatoes (don't judge) were fine, remaining tastefully warm throughout the meal, but the meat was barely warm to begin with and the cooling of the sauce over a short time had me regretting my decision to order the sampler. I seldom, if ever, order steaks or bbq at a restaurant. I want hot meals and these items seem to cool off quickly. This time I felt like I slipped the $22.99 price right into the trash. If someone had come by to ask how things were I would have spoken up, but no one asked and I decided to just let it go. Another mistake. One thing I must add. It seem as though the very thinly and perfectly sliced brisket came from the deli counter at a mediocre grocer. Service is always courteous at Uncle Bub's and the place is always clean. No hassle getting a drink refill and decent tunes playing in the background. It's a shame that this last meal has given me a real bad taste for Uncle Bub's. read more

I found this place when I was living in Lisle and some friends told me about it. I have to say they have some GOOD BBQ and broasted chicken! You get a good amount of food for the price. $20.00 for a full slab of ribs with 2 sides and cornbread. I always order the pulled pork or the pulled chicken dinner. You will def get what you pay for which is why I have been eating from them for the past 3-4 years now. It's worth the trip if you have not had them yet. Ordering process is simple. Walk in and they have a menu on the wall. Place your order and take the wood pig with a number on it to your table. They will bring you your food and they always check on you at some point while you are eating to make sure everything is good etc. Friendly workers, somewhat quiet atmosphere and GOOD BBQ equals a place worth checking out and going back too. i judge every bbq place in America by Phil's Best Butts of Alabama in Eufala, Alabama. The problem with most bbq sauce is the sugar. Sugar doesn't usually make bbq sauce better but rather masks the true taste/quality. it can mute the spicy sauces and I think it is what happened here. In this instance, it is not necessarily a negative. you can still taste and second punch delivery is in the after-taste of the spicy. it works! nice move. brown paper towels on the wooden spool stand at tables says "you want to eat, and we are serious about it, too!" I ordered the pulled pork bbq sandwhich (some bbq sauce already on it but I gotsta drench every time in sauce after first bite at any bbq joint..it's just my thing) 5oz. of bbq..and it comes with 2 sides..I chose the corn on the cob (they are the short ones) and the fried mac n cheese balls. the mac n cheese inside was ok and the fried balls were crispy and tasty and overpowered the mac n cheese taste a bit. hard if not impossible to make fried mac n cheese balls that don't taste this way. the mild sauce tastes smokier than the spicy. the bbq seemes smoked taste but I did drench it with the mild bbq sauce prematurely. good! POUR DAT SAUCE LIKE PANCAKE SYRUP. Great BBQ! Walking up, you can smell the hickory smoke emanating from the Southern Pride smokers inside. This makes me go from hungry for lunch to a crazed man who needs a BBQ fix. The building is great, you feel like you are outside with shacks around you. The staff was some of the best I have had the pleasure to order from. They instantly knew that we were new to Uncle Bub's and were quick to answer any of our goofy questions such as "why kind of smoker do you guys use?". The atmosphere and vibe you get here is very welcoming and fun. It makes you comfortable, wanting to kick back and stay for the entire day. Ate at Uncle Bub's for the first time. I've heard good things and wanted to see for myself. We of course tried the pulled pork and it was very good. Meat fell apart with a tangy sweet sauce. They have several big smokers out back. While the pork is very good, you must try the chicken. It was oh so good. The meat was moist and the skin crispy with an excellent blend of spices rubbed on each piece. We also had the most popular sides....corn, pasta salad and cornbread. The meal was very good. The atmosphere reminded me of an outdoor picnic. Red checkered table cloths and rustic decor. Be sure to come as you are! The only reason I gave Uncle Bubs 4 stars was due to the cost. For $32 bucks , their sides are basically two spoon fulls in a tiny container. Mac and cheese missing flavor all around. Creamy yes, no seasoning or flavor at all. Bland tasting. Cole slaw was ok. REALLY good! Chicago isn't known for its BB'Q the way Texas, Kansas City, and Georgia are. But Uncle Bub's stands out as Chicago's strong contribution to the nation's best, even being featured on 'Food Network' by Guy Fieri on his TV show 'Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives'. Finding Uncle Bub's BB'Q on 'Food Network's' list of the 'Best BB'Q in the country was both fun and also confirmation that it wasn't just in my Chicago-biased mind. They really are that good. With a few locations and a massive catering operation (think family reunions, graduations, birthdays, and any other excuse to have them out to your 'jam' is a good one). I just can't take looking at a pig on a table like some people have. read more

We catered Uncle Bub's for our wedding in December! They were amazing to work with and SUPER accommodating. We had an initial meeting there and got all the catering information, which was super helpful. They even provided us with dinner that night. We scheduled our tasting for just the two of us and were SHOCKED at how much food and options they brought us. We barely made it through trying everything, thankfully they let us take all the leftovers home! I have a gluten and diary allergy (as do a handful of our guests) and they were great about offering other options and making certain things allergy friendly. They made a special diary free roasted chicken for my mom and I. They also made the gravy gluten free for everyone. I asked last minute for a dietary card for the buffet table and they provided one without any issues. They gave us the option to use their China or disposable plates/silverware, etc. However, they did advise us that it would probably be more affordable to purchase our own for them to use. They advised how much to buy of what and we purchased on our own, saving quite a bit of money there! They also offered to help assist with serving anything we wanted to purchase on our own. For example, if we want to purchase a cheese board from Costco, they would monitor it. I did take them up on this because I did provide a small amount of gluten/diary free cupcakes, and they managed serving them, which was amazing. We rented their popcorn machine for cocktail hour, since we didn't provide apps. We also served pulled pork, herb roasted chicken, mac & cheese, cole slaw, green beans, mashed potatoes, along with rolls and corn bread. We had comments from ALL of our guests absolutely RAVING about how amazing the food was. They even said the herb roasted chicken was the best they'd ever had. We are so grateful for everything Uncle Bub's and the team did for us on our big day and would recommend them in a heart beat to anyone interested! Went to eat there this weekend and the food was fantastic. Unfortunately I also requested a pulled pork meal for carry out and was given a big blob of fat with little to no meat. I went there for lunch on a Friday and had one of their tenderloin pork sandwich specials. Reasonably priced, but very tasty. The meat was really tender and the extra sauces they had on the tables (Spicy) really made the sandwich pop. The fries on the other hand weren't the best. And the ambience...well...nothing great. The inside is pretty cool too...all wood, checkered table cloths. You seat yourself...have to order first then sit down and your food will be brought to you. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, fried macaroni cheese, and the beans. They were all very good. The sauce wasn't overwhelming the meat or toppling it over. The sauce was good. Uncle Bubs deserves more championship trophies and ribbons, they are just excellent. I totally appreciate the laid-back atmosphere and the style of the restaurant. If you can't figure it out, they have a huge sign by the front door, explaining how it works. You order at the counter, take the table number and they bring the food to your table. Then a waiter/waitress will come around every once in a while to check on you, bring you refills, etc... This is a "get messy" bbq place, like they ALL should be. They give you bibs and a roll of paper towels on the table. They have jars of extra sauce on the table, so there is no need to ration yourself. They also have an entire wall of various hot sauces and other additives if you can't deal with their already excellent house-made sauce. The food is excelled, I had both styles of ribs, both were meaty and cooked to perfection, and several sides. Fried Mac and Cheese was good, but I prefer the baked beans and slaw. I will certainly be back, and I will preference this place at Rib-Fest! read more

Omg!! Delicious!! Was watching Chicago Today days before Memorial Day. The food featured looked delicious. The host said it smelled amazing. So I knew we had to give it a try. It was worth the 40 minute drive!! The smoked turkey was tender and so good, ribs were amazing and the chicken equally as good. The kids menu of chicken tenders passed the kids test as well. The cornbread was to die for, I could eat a pan of that!! The sides were baked beans, slaw and Mac & cheese, green beans and fries - Delicious!! Although this was a scaled down menu due to COVID-19. As an event planner I vet caterers for events year round. So when it came to picking one for our wedding I had high expectations. I was looking for: quality and tastiness of food, reasonable prices (Ie. A potato, veggies, and chicken costs $ at the store, so what are other caterers doing that should it cost $$$ per plate? My husband and I read the reviews of this place since we were searching for a restaurant for Mother's Day. I recognized the logo and name from the Naperville Ribfest, so I KNEW this place was off the chain. We entered the building and was welcomed and seated immediately. You decide what you want to order and then you have to get up and go to the counter with your table number. The rib tips we ordered for the appetizers was SOOOOO GOOOOD! Tender bite sized pieces of meat. We also had the hot link - seasoned to perfection. I must say it ALMOST touches my dad's (RIP) homemade links he use to make. When our entrees came, we both ordered the burnt ends dinner - which I shouldn't have really done. They were ok - the pieces were a little too big for my liking and wasn't "burnt" enough either. We had the fried mac & cheese balls - OMG...smh...WHY WERE THESE SOOOOO GOOOOODDDDD?????? I can eat those alone! We definitely took our food back home and devoured later on that night. Best bbq in all of Chicagoland! The savory tender deliciousness of Uncle Bub's Award winning BBQ, the craft beers on tap, the fried mac and cheese. Sunday they sometimes have Beef Short rib, a hidden gem menu item. Think a perfectly seasoned pot roast just falling off the bone... yeah, it's that good. Hate the green beans though, nothing wrong with them, just not a big fan of green beans. lol Family friendly atmosphere and they do catering for large events, weddings and gatherings. I plan on using them at some point for an event. I want to preface this by saying I HATE BBQ. Unless it's spicy enough to take off a layer of mouth skin, I dislike smoky charcoal flavors and also any sweetness in my meat. (Surprising, I do like a good cedar plank salmon). This review is for the amazing, life changing mac and cheese. My god. It's perfect. The noodles are somehow perfectly al dente, despite being smothered in the most beautifully thick (but not cloying) balanced mega cheesy sauce I've ever had. I suspect a bechemal sauce base and maybe chicken broth, but who can be sure. I'd try to make it myself, but I can't mess with perfection. I don't even dare to put green hatch chiles on it, which is my favorite mac and cheese topping. It is crazy good. read more

Inside is rather messy and tacky, purposely tacky, but feels dated and dirty. Staff seems bothered that people are ordering food and not open to talking about that menu so you're kind of on your own. The meats are very mushy and lack flavor, not much smoke or seasoning. Yes BBQ is suppose to be tender but this feels like the meats have been sitting for hours. The sauce are mediocre at best and nothing worth raving about but add much needed flavor. If they are winning awards for their BBQ it's not for what they're serving and must be for competitions only.
