Do you ever crave the chive pockets like me? Well I've ordered a couple of times before and then decided to dine in for dinner with my kiddos. We were seated within minutes at a booth and the waitress came by and got our waters quickly. We ordered the adorable penguin taro bao which come with three. These were yummy for the kids. We also got the beef noodle soup, the colorful soup dumplings and the chives pocket of course. The soup dumplings come in large portion of regular pork, the pork and crab (yellow color), chicken and cucumber (pink), veggie which has black fungus, noodles (green) and then pork truffle (black). I loved them all. This comes with a vinegar-soy sauce dipping sauce that complements well. I need to try the beef roll next time and the Lou ro fan among many other dishes so I guess that will be a next time. The restaurant is spacious with several booths along the 2 sides of the restaurant and then lots of tables in the middle area as well as a bar seating to watch the workers make the dumplings. Today's meal was anonymously paid forward by some nice gentleman who I didn't even know what they looked like. I want to give this person a huge thank you for their kindness. This was so unexpected which seemed like this only happens in a movie or such a rare occurrence. I was genuinely shocked and really wanted to know who this person was. Whoever it is I wish them happiness always and a fulfilled life. So now I will have to pay it forward. Kind people do exist! Thank you thank you. And thank you to the staff for letting me know. read more

Food is not distinctively seasoned. Very bland. No descriptions of the dishes on the menu. Menu is large and its format is unfamiliar. Mongolian beef was more onion than anything else. A lot of onion. Too much onion. Nothing comes with rice. The Dumplings are cute, but again, bland. Service is pleasant and attentive, but we had to ask for the dumplings menu, although we had two kids with us. Sterile, ultra-modern environment. An expensive, but dull, experience. read more

9.6.26 - Had this place bookmarked for a while and finally tried it out. The 5 colored soup dumplings were what caught my attention. We arrived on a Sunday around noon and it wasn't too busy. Few tables here and there. The menu had a decent selection but you won't find some certain items that other dim sum places have, like shrimp cheung fun. They said it was because they're from area in China. No biggie, plenty of other items to try. Order: X1. 5 Flavor Soup Dumplings X5. Kurobuta Pork Crab Soup Dumplings PD1. Pan Fried Pork Shrimp and Chive Dumplings S11. Chinese Beef Wrap A7. Cold Mix Cucumber in Garlic Sauce S8. Black Golden Creamy Bun Of the 5 flavors, I think I had the green and yellow one. Pretty sure there was one more but I can't remember which. I know my friend had the black one and one other. The pork crab ones could use a bit more crab in them. A few of the soup dumplings broke/leaked so they didn't have much broth. The fried dumplings were good. Cucumber in garlic sauce was refreshing and had good flavor. The beef wrap meat was kind of tough so I didn't like that. I thought the creamy buns were custard buns but turned out to be salted egg buns, I don't like salted eggs so didn't like those. This place wasn't bad but definitely doesn't beat its competitor. Everyone was nice though and the place was clean. read more

Decided to give this place another try. Better this time around. I think the strategy here is to just get the baos & dumplings. The other stuff i've tried is mid but the baos & dumplings are pretty good. I do wish the pan-fried pork buns were juicy instead of dry but the flavor was still good. Also recommend ordering a drink as the water tastes strongly of tap water. read more

Uncle Bao in Chandler is an absolute 10/10! If you're looking for fresh, flavorful food that tastes like it was made with care, this spot definitely deserves a place on your foodie radar. One thing I really appreciate is that everything is made fresh to order, and you can absolutely taste the difference. There's something special about food that arrives freshly prepared, packed with flavor, and served hot! On this visit, I ordered the spicy dumplings, and WOW! The flavor was out of this world. They had that delicious, savory kick that makes you want to keep reaching for just one more. Of course, I couldn't stop there! I also ordered the pork fried rice, which was equally delicious and full of flavor. And the egg rolls? Another tasty addition to the lineup! Crispy, satisfying, and the perfect companion to the rest of the meal. Everything came together beautifully, and I genuinely enjoyed every bite. I love discovering places that put care into their food and deliver flavors that keep you thinking about your next visit before you've even finished your meal. read more

If you are wanting to try soup dumplings, Uncle Boa has many varieties. They have a huge menu of items, a dim sum menu and traditional rice and noodles dishes. I can for my second visit after a good experience last year. It was as good as I remembered from last year. My husband ordered bulgogi rice and I ordered scallion cakes and bbq bao. My party ordered family style and we enjoyed house lo mein, dumplings with egg and shrimp. Friendly service and they split the bill up easily. My husband really enjoyed their Orange chicken previously. I ordered soup dumplings and they didn't bring spoons and so the pasta sort of stuck to the parchment and ripped the dumplings open by the time I requested and received the soup spoons. So a bit anticlimactic. As two of my three dumplings tore open in the steamer. There is a window to watch staff making dumplings. The food tasted good. Will return read more

Really enjoyed Uncle Bao. Our server was great at explaining everything and we decided to get the Almond Shrimp and Kung Pao Tofu- figure we would be back to try the buns on a different visit. My spouse got their order timely but I was informed they were out of tofu. I guess understandable, but was not told until the other dish had been delivered and he was eating through it. Another 10+ minutes they got me my order- and I did get the Vegetable Buns- which were super yummy. All was fine, with the exception of not knowing about being out of certain meal dishes during the ordering process. We will be back to try again! read more

The rating is more of 3.5 stars. The service is excellent. They're so friendly here. Also there are lots of tables and it's just cute that their mascot is a panda. My 4 year old son was being bad of course and climbing all over. They smiled at him while I was yelling at him to sit on his butt! The food is where it was lacking. While they have an extensive menu, the flavors weren't quite there. The beef noodle soup was okay and the meat wasn't cooked down enough. The kids loved the broth though so perhaps at least it's kid friendly. The spicy wontons weren't bad especially after adding extra chili oil on top. The lu rou fan was disappointing. The kids enjoyed the egg rolls. I think the only thing my husband thought was good was the chive pancakes. read more

We happened upon this place randomly one night after an event and it was supposed to be a Taiwanese restaurant which we love so we figured we would try! It was relatively busy and seemed like a lot of people eating there. The staff is super friendly and nice. They were also very accommodating to our kiddos which I really liked. We were in a great mood eating there as the food came out fast and the ambiance is bright and friendly. Nothing fancy but casual and clean We got the following: Egg rolls - 5/5 according to my son Beef noodle soup - 3/5 Braised Pork over rice - 3/5 Chive filled bread - 5/5 Green onion pancake - 4/5 We will go back as my kid loves this place but only if we are in the area. read more

I will start by saying the service was great and the place was very clean. However, the food was just not great. It was very "onenote" and quite flavorless. The Dan dan noodles just tasted like plain chile oil. The soup dumplings were too dry and too big to eat without spilling the little bit of soup in them all over the table. Most of them tore off the parchment in the steamer basket and lost their soup before making it to the spoon. The cold mixed black fungus came out warm. We did enjoy the pan fried pork and cabbage dumplings and the Coke products were really good. read more

Legit handmade dumplings and great noodle soup. Uncle Bao absolutely delivered on the food. The handmade dumplings were good, and the noodle soup was great--rich, flavorful, and exactly the kind of comforting flavor I was hoping for. I ordered the beef and green onion dumplings, and they were exactly what I expected: satisfying, well-seasoned, and clearly made with care. The ambiance adds to the experience. You can see the older ladies making dumplings, which gives the place an extra level of legitimacy. The tables had just the right amount of stickiness to let you know it's authentic. Also, the music randomly switched from traditional Chinese music to Chinese R&B, which honestly made me laugh. My only wish is that they offered a pot of jasmine tea to go with the meal. Other than that, it's all-around a great spot for handmade dumplings and noodle soup. I'll definitely be back. read more

The Hunan Pork had a nice spicy kick and crunchy vegetables. The Mongolian Beef was good, but not as flavorful. It was disappointing that no rice was included for either dish. It will be unlikely I'll order theses dishes again since they don't come with rice. Both dishes need to eaten with rice. read more

Well. Nice looking place. Good parking. Good service. Very busy when we were here. Now for the food. **The Mongolian beef was excellent! Lots of tender beef and onions in a wonderful rich brown sauce. Yummy. ** The hot and sour soup. I must agree with a previous reviewer. Not good at all. At all. Bland. Awful. They should completely revamp the recipe or take it off the menu. They were kind enough to take the soup back and replace with another item. The signature pork soup dumplings were disappointing. Texture, flavor. Broke apart too easily on the steamer. Just missed the mark. We will probably return to try some other things. I really wanted to enjoy this place. We will try one more time. read more

I've been here multiple times and for good reason. The attention to details and flavor really stood out to me. I love that they make all of their dumplings in house and you can really see/taste the difference. We always order food here family style so we can enjoy a multitude of things. I really was impressed by the sliced beef and tripe in chili oil and the braised beef noodle soup. The service here was attentive and although it does take a while for all the food to arrive, I'm not complaining. Solid restaurant choice if you are looking for an authentic experience. Would HIGHLY recommend! read more

We had such a great dinner here a few Saturdays ago! I brought my sister and friend along and were seated as soon as we walked in. The menus were given to us and a few minutes later, our orders were taken. We ordered: Fried cream cheese wontons House chow mein Pork wonton in chili sauce Pork wonton in chicken broth Spicy fried green beans Pan fried pork chives and shrimp dumplings All the dishes came out one by one. The green beans were delicious! They were crispy, super flavorful, and crunchy. The chow mein and soup were also my favorite. The pork wonton with chili dumplings weren't spicy so they weren't our favorite. The crispy pan fried ones were bomb. Almost everything was tasty and fresh. Service was good and super fast. Our plates were picked up as soon as they saw we were done. The bill was also brought out quickly. The inside was clean. read more

The bao here is quite delicious, with some unique flavors that really stand out. The orange chicken was also extremely tasty--perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Since the restaurant is family-owned and family-operated, you can really feel the authenticity in every dish. Everything was reasonably priced, and the portions were generous, which made the meal even more satisfying. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, and you could genuinely tell she loves what she does. Her warmth and enthusiasm added a lot to the overall experience. Overall, this is a great spot for comforting, flavorful food served with authentic family pride. read more

We went to Uncle Bao for an early dinner. The staff was super friendly and very efficient! I love that you can watch them make the dumplings behind the glass; I should've grabbed a picture! We tried the soup dumplings, spicy wontons, sesame buns, and shrimp dumplings. Everything was very tasty. The soup dumplings were larger than I prefer (I like them more bite-sized), but the flavor was excellent. My husband especially loved the sesame buns....perfect size and taste! The spicy wontons were my favorite. They weren't overly spicy, just flavorful with a really nice wonton texture. The menu has a great selection without being overwhelming. We'll definitely be back to try a few more dishes next time! read more

If you like Asian dumplings, Bao, potstickers and noodle dishes, check this place out. It's a cousins of Uncle Panda in Glendale. I think I liked the setup and aesthetics here a bit better. It was fun to watch the lady make the dumplings. Food is delicious, proper texture for the dough and sumptuous nuggets of protein and veg inside. I confess that I have my go-to items but I really need to try others. I've never not loved what I ordered at the other location. As for service, it was a bit slow but there were two large parties our server tended to. For handmade dumplings, I can wait! The server kept us posted and kept our beverages full, so that's a big plus. All in all, a solid 4 stars. Never been? No time like the present, right? Go now! read more

Came here tonight and had a good time!! We got the cream cheese crab wontons - which were awesome - and then a variety of different dumplings. We got the soup dumpling taster and it was pretty good, the scallion pancake which was solid, and an order of the pan fried dumplings which were pretty yummy. We also got the custard buns which were SOOOO good! Overall, the food was pretty good but not amazing. We will be coming back again but probably trying some different items from the menu, because it seemed like there were several parties at the restaurant who were really enjoying their food!! Uncle Bao occupies the space of a former favorite sushi restaurant so I wanted to try out the new restaurant. We ordered BBQ pork Bao, soup dumplings, an order of Korean fried chicken, and another dish I can't remember the name of but it was noodles. Great food, large portions. The Bao was light fluffy and the BBQ pork was delish; the soup dumplings hot and savory. I really like the Korean fried wings and could make a meal out of them and a bowl of rice! So glad to have a new restaurant around the corner that offers a good menu, great service and a pleasant environment. read more

I'm so thankful to finally see a XLB representation in Ahwatukee! However, I believe it needs some improvement. Otherwise, it won't survive for long. We showed up on a Sunday within 90 minutes before they closed. The interior design was nice and clean, love the white tiles! Right after we got seated, they started putting the chairs up around us, which caused confusion of new customers peeking in and asked if they were still open. While we were waiting for the food, at least 2 groups of people came in with hesitation and ended up asking for to-go orders instead. About the food, the sauté veggie is well seasoned. The ha gaos were honestly more delicious than the xio long baos...because the XLBs had too much filling and the skin kept breaking. The special spoon they gave actually was not helpful. I would have preferred a regular soup spoon instead. Also, first-timer mistake, I didn't know that I had to ask for black vinegar on my own, so what came with was just regular soy sauce. I'll give them a second chance in a few months, and I hope to see them succeed. read more

Visited Uncle Bao's while in Phoenix. The atmosphere was clean and contemporary, and at first glance it felt like a place with real promise, but unfortunately the service was only okay and the food didn't deliver. We ordered several signature dishes, including the Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings), which completely missed the mark -- a large meatball with no soup defeats the entire purpose of the dish. The wontons were disappointing as well, filled with pork only instead of the more flavorful pork-and-shrimp combination. The Dan Dan noodles lacked the signature spicy, nutty, savory depth and came across as flat and flavorless. Overall, a letdown, and while they may be catering to a different clientele, anyone seeking authenticity will likely walk away disappointed unless changes are made. Saluti read more

New place that opened up, specializing in dumplings. We've tried this place twice so far. We really enjoyed the Thai iced tea, sesame balls, the gyudon bowl, the braised beef noodle bowl, and the stir fried veggies! I loved the noodles in the noodle bowl! I personally wasn't a fan of the beef with green onion dumpling or the bulgolgi fries, but the bulgolgi was tender. I look forward to going back to try some of their other things on the menu. We tried to order the three cup chicken, but they said they didn't have any. The people have been all really nice. There's a huge window on one side of the restaurant where you can see the chefs making the dumplings. Also, there is no alcoholic beverages available on the menu, but I do recall seeing saki in the fridge behind the glass. Maybe they are just pending on the liquor license. read more

When planning to visit Uncle Bao on a holiday weekend, I expected the restaurant to be empty. Not so! The place was quite busy with hungry Customers! Nonetheless, seating was immediate with no wait time. Uncle Bao's is relatively new to the Ahwatukee area and a welcomed addition. I was curious about it, given there's a restaurant with a similar name on Bell Rd which I enjoyed in the past. The facility doesn't have a particularly Asian vibe, though it's pleasant and seats quite a few people. They should remove all the boxes and supplies blocking access to the restrooms. It's unsightly and a hazard to a potential emergency evacuation. The service was attentive, though I never knew who to look toward. Three different Servers assisted, so it seemed no specific person was assigned to the table. Confusing, but together, they got the job done (for my table). Considering it was busy, I can understand why some tables were cleared right away. I don't understand why one employee cleared tables of dishes and glasses, but didn't wipe them down. When new Customers entered, she had to tell another Server to seat them elsewhere, knowing she didn't complete cleaning the tables. Not sure why she didn't before moving on. The food was okay, but nothing to write home about. Specifically, the Xiao Long Bao had very little soup and the small amount inside spilled out as soon as they were touched. They broke open immediately. Overall, the dishes I tried lacked flavor. With a few tweaks, Uncle Bao can improve and be just as good as the restaurant with a similar name in North Phoenix. I hope they do! read more

So happy to welcome a handmade bao, dumpling, and noodle spot to Ahwatukee! There's room for improvement, but I enjoyed my experience at Uncle Bao overall. I love that everything here is super fresh. Upon walking in, you'll see employees making dough from scratch. There's a longer wait for food than at other restaurants, but everything comes out freshly steamed and pan fried! Custard buns were super soft with lightly sweet filling. I enjoyed the crispy scallion pancakes too. The Kurobuta pork and crab soup dumplings were tasty but not worth the extra cost -- they had almost no crab flavor. Save a couple dollars with the standard soup dumplings. The sauce is pretty light on vinegar too, but I'm sure I can ask for extra next time. Pan-fried pork dumplings require a 20-minute wait, which wasn't a problem since we were told in advance. But again, it's really light on flavor, especially since it's a bit doughy here. I'll probably be back simply because of how convenient the drive is and how wonderful the service was. Beautiful interior too! While the dishes are slightly catered to non-Asian tastes, it's authentic enough that I'm sure I can find a handful of go-to standouts on the massive menu. read more

As someone who loves good bao and noodles, I just had to try this place. We arrived at 5:30 and just managed to get a table. (By the time we finished our meal the line was out the door). We started with the typical Chinese cucumber salad which is made with salt and garlic. It was excellent. Next was pork and shrimp shumai. Nicely made and excellent flavor. The next item brought out was Xai Long Bao otherwise known as soup dumplings. Small dough envelopes with a pork meatball inside and filled with soup. This is a specialty of Shanghai and these were identical to the ones I have eaten there. We slurped them down and were almost sorry we didn't order more of them because they were so good. Next were pork with chives and shrimp dumplings followed by shrimp dumplings. The wrappers of the dumplings were so thin that you could easily see the shrimp inside of it. We had pre-ordered house fried rice which had meat and shrimp and eggs in it and had great flavor. Last on the menu was shrimp with sweet garlic. How I wish I could learn to make this dish as it was wonderful. Shrimp in a coating that was deep fried and then coated with sauce and green and red peppers. Wonderful. Service was as good as it possibly could be with every table and the sitting counter filled to capacity. Sanitation was also excellent as the place was immaculate. For those who like a show, you can sit at the counter and watch through the glass walls how they make the various dumplings, etc. I know that I don't have the dexterity to make them and theirs are perfection. Nothing is frozen and everything is hand made to order. I would not recommend anyone to order as much as we did, but I am trying a variety of foods to write about. However, all the extra was brought home and daughter #1 feasted for the rest of the evening! 5 stars and highly recommended. read more

We love coming here for a quick bite to eat whenever we are in this side of town and hands down the best dish here is the dry red pepper fried fish filet. We decided to try the green beans this time and they were also delicious! The soup dumplings here are okay but are fun to try, a bit on the dry side and you don't really get any of the "soup" from them. Out of the different xiao long bao they have, the pork truffle was our favorite one. The dan dan noodles are good too. Popcorn chicken was okay. But we definitely recommend the fish! We get it every time :) read more
