Just came back for a second time..... called in a pick up order 25 min before close. When I got there no one but the people working were in the restaurant and they were cleaning. I was very warmly welcomed despite the fact they were very obviously closed - this is not something we saw a lot of living in Vegas for over a decade. We had orange chicken and general tsos chicken andddddddddd - Aaaaafn mazing. This seriously was delicious- like pick your favorite 5 star Asian restaurant in Las Vegas and this beats it hands down. As someone who loves good bao and noodles, I just had to try this place. We arrived at 5:30 and just managed to get a table. (By the time we finished our meal the line was out the door). We started with the typical Chinese cucumber salad which is made with salt and garlic. It was excellent. Next was pork and shrimp shumai. Nicely made and excellent flavor. The next item brought out was Xai Long Bao otherwise known as soup dumplings. Small dough envelopes with a pork meatball inside and filled with soup. This is a specialty of Shanghai and these were identical to the ones I have eaten there. We slurped them down and were almost sorry we didn't order more of them because they were so good. Next were pork with chives and shrimp dumplings followed by shrimp dumplings. The wrappers of the dumplings were so thin that you could easily see the shrimp inside of it. We had pre-ordered house fried rice which had meat and shrimp and eggs in it and had great flavor. Last on the menu was shrimp with sweet garlic. How I wish I could learn to make this dish as it was wonderful. Shrimp in a coating that was deep fried and then coated with sauce and green and red peppers. Wonderful. Service was as good as it possibly could be with every table and the sitting counter filled to capacity. Sanitation was also excellent as the place was immaculate. For those who like a show, you can sit at the counter and watch through the glass walls how they make the various dumplings, etc. I know that I don't have the dexterity to make them and theirs are perfection. Nothing is frozen and everything is hand made to order. I would not recommend anyone to order as much as we did, but I am trying a variety of foods to write about. They should completely revamp the recipe or take it off the menu. They were kind enough to take the soup back and replace with another item. The signature pork soup dumplings were disappointing. I ordered the Cold Mixing Black Fungus 凉拌木耳 (Wood ear mushroom cold salad) and the Braised Beef Noodle Soup 红烧牛肉面. The Cold Black Fungus salad was on point. Perfect mixture of sweet, tangy, and a hint of spicy. I loved it and devoured it quickly. I was not, however, terribly impressed with the Beef Noodle Soup. The broth was very bland. I added a lot of soy sauce and chile oil, but it just did not help. I expected so much more flavor here. The noodles did not have much texture either. They were bland and very soft. I will go back and try some dumplings and will most definitely grab more of the black fungus salad. The Coke was very good. Ice cold and perfect. The green beans were delicious! They were crispy, super flavorful, and crunchy. The chow mein and soup were also my favorite. Since the restaurant is family-owned and family-operated, you can really feel the authenticity in every dish. This is a restaurant with a big open space. Plenty of seating and you can see them making the dumplings and other food. Staff were so sweet and welcoming. I didn't have a huge appetite but needed to put something on my stomach so I just got chicken eggrolls and pork belly buns. The eggrolls were good. The buns were good too, but the pork belly was really fatty. The flavor was good and everything was fresh. We went to Uncle Bao for an early dinner. The staff was super friendly and very efficient! I love that you can watch them make the dumplings behind the glass; I should've grabbed a picture! We tried the soup dumplings, spicy wontons, sesame buns, and shrimp dumplings. Everything was very tasty. The soup dumplings were larger than I prefer (I like them more bite-sized), but the flavor was excellent. My husband especially loved the sesame buns....perfect size and taste! The spicy wontons were my favorite. They weren't overly spicy, just flavorful with a really nice wonton texture. The menu has a great selection without being overwhelming. If you like Asian dumplings, Bao, potstickers and noodle dishes, check this place out. It's a cousins of Uncle Panda in Glendale. I think I liked the setup and aesthetics here a bit better. It was fun to watch the lady make the dumplings. Food is delicious, proper texture for the dough and sumptuous nuggets of protein and veg inside. I confess that I have my go-to items but I really need to try others. I've never not loved what I ordered at the other location. As for service, it was a bit slow but there were two large parties our server tended to. For handmade dumplings, I can wait! Came here tonight and had a good time!! We got the cream cheese crab wontons - which were awesome - and then a variety of different dumplings. We got the soup dumpling taster and it was pretty good, the scallion pancake which was solid, and an order of the pan fried dumplings which were pretty yummy. We also got the custard buns which were SOOOO good! Overall, the food was pretty good but not amazing. We will be coming back again but probably trying some different items from the menu, because it seemed like there were several parties at the restaurant who were really enjoying their food!! I'm so thankful to finally see a XLB representation in Ahwatukee! However, I believe it needs some improvement. Otherwise, it won't survive for long. We showed up on a Sunday within 90 minutes before they closed. The interior design was nice and clean, love the white tiles! Right after we got seated, they started putting the chairs up around us, which caused confusion of new customers peeking in and asked if they were still open. While we were waiting for the food, at least 2 groups of people came in with hesitation and ended up asking for to-go orders instead. About the food, the sauté veggie is well seasoned. The ha gaos were honestly more delicious than the xio long baos...because the XLBs had too much filling and the skin kept breaking. The special spoon they gave actually was not helpful. I would have preferred a regular soup spoon instead. Also, first-timer mistake, I didn't know that I had to ask for black vinegar on my own, so what came with was just regular soy sauce. I'll give them a second chance in a few months, and I hope to see them succeed. read more

New place that opened up, specializing in dumplings. We've tried this place twice so far. We really enjoyed the Thai iced tea, sesame balls, the gyudon bowl, the braised beef noodle bowl, and the stir fried veggies! I loved the noodles in the noodle bowl! I personally wasn't a fan of the beef with green onion dumpling or the bulgolgi fries, but the bulgolgi was tender. I look forward to going back to try some of their other things on the menu. We tried to order the three cup chicken, but they said they didn't have any. The people have been all really nice. There's a huge window on one side of the restaurant where you can see the chefs making the dumplings. Also, there is no alcoholic beverages available on the menu, but I do recall seeing saki in the fridge behind the glass. Maybe they are just pending on the liquor license. read more

When planning to visit Uncle Bao on a holiday weekend, I expected the restaurant to be empty. Not so! The place was quite busy with hungry Customers! Nonetheless, seating was immediate with no wait time. Uncle Bao's is relatively new to the Ahwatukee area and a welcomed addition. I was curious about it, given there's a restaurant with a similar name on Bell Rd which I enjoyed in the past. The facility doesn't have a particularly Asian vibe, though it's pleasant and seats quite a few people. They should remove all the boxes and supplies blocking access to the restrooms. It's unsightly and a hazard to a potential emergency evacuation. The service was attentive, though I never knew who to look toward. Three different Servers assisted, so it seemed no specific person was assigned to the table. Confusing, but together, they got the job done (for my table). Considering it was busy, I can understand why some tables were cleared right away. I don't understand why one employee cleared tables of dishes and glasses, but didn't wipe them down. When new Customers entered, she had to tell another Server to seat them elsewhere, knowing she didn't complete cleaning the tables. Not sure why she didn't before moving on. The food was okay, but nothing to write home about. Specifically, the Xiao Long Bao had very little soup and the small amount inside spilled out as soon as they were touched. They broke open immediately. Overall, the dishes I tried lacked flavor. With a few tweaks, Uncle Bao can improve and be just as good as the restaurant with a similar name in North Phoenix. So happy to welcome a handmade bao, dumpling, and noodle spot to Ahwatukee! There's room for improvement, but I enjoyed my experience at Uncle Bao overall. I love that everything here is super fresh. Upon walking in, you'll see employees making dough from scratch. There's a longer wait for food than at other restaurants, but everything comes out freshly steamed and pan fried! Custard buns were super soft with lightly sweet filling. I enjoyed the crispy scallion pancakes too. The Kurobuta pork and crab soup dumplings were tasty but not worth the extra cost -- they had almost no crab flavor. Save a couple dollars with the standard soup dumplings. The sauce is pretty light on vinegar too, but I'm sure I can ask for extra next time. Pan-fried pork dumplings require a 20-minute wait, which wasn't a problem since we were told in advance. But again, it's really light on flavor, especially since it's a bit doughy here. I'll probably be back simply because of how convenient the drive is and how wonderful the service was. Beautiful interior too! While the dishes are slightly catered to non-Asian tastes, it's authentic enough that I'm sure I can find a handful of go-to standouts on the massive menu. read more

For my first time, I did a to go pick up order. I ordered the classic braised beef noodle soup, custard buns, unadon eel rice bowl, and Dan Dan noodles. I really loved the braised beef noodle soup. The soup broth was flavorful and the soup had lots of tender meat! I wish it had more bok choy to go with it. But the noodles were nice and chewy. The other dishes were ok. The eel that came with my order was smaller than I expected and it was also overcooked. So maybe it shriveled up from being overcooked? The Dan Dan noodles I asked for it non spicy. Taste wasn't bad but I needed some sauce to go with the noodles and meat. The custard buns weren't too bad. Wish it had more custard inside. That being said, I want to come back and have more braised beef noodle soup and try some of the other items. I'll have to dine in one of these days as well. The BBQ pork bao tasted great, the pastry was wonderful and light, the pork was delicious, but just a bit too much breading to filling ratio. The chili wontons again tasted great with the dough, meat, chili however the dish had a ton of peanuts in it that took away from the highlighted flavors. Cream cheese crab Rangoons were FIRE, absolutely would recommend. Sadly, our truffle pork soup dumplings had only a couple drops of soup in them, and was primarily just dough wrapped meat. We got takeout from here and loved it! Great XLB soup dumplings, loved the pan fried pork buns, the wife and daughter loved the shrimp dumplings and they had a chicken and corn dumpling. Food wise we got the fried pork and cabbage dumplings, Dan Dan noodles, Hunan style sautéed pork, and green beans. The dumplings and green beans were great, and would definitely get again. However the Dan Dan noodles and sautéed pork were questionable. I was shocked about the amount of jalapeños used and the sauce for the Dan Dan noodles wasn't great.
