*Written on 1/24/22. Experienced this debical on 1/13/23* Guess who's back?! Back again. The owner of the store brought a friend. Cindy is the new Nails, Waxing, Facial and Chair Massage specialist. Cindy is replacing Nina who is back in China visiting her family. It is unclear if she will return. Nevertheless, I was expecting great things, "but it was not meant to be Sherry." Let's get into the experience of yesterdays adventure at Umi Nails. I arrived early and was greeted by Vicky The Owner of Umi Nail. I saw Cindy (who is the new Spa Specialist) working on a guest. Taking seat I waited for my turn to be serviced. About 30 minutes after my start time Cindy finished with the current client. I saw Cindy look in my direction several times and I wondered what was going through her mind. THE PEDICURE EXPERIENCE:: 30 minutes after my start time, I was invited to take a seat Spa Chair. Luke warm water was used in the spa chair. Oh, and Umi Nails does provided the disposable plastic covers along with the blue disinfectant powder. Cindy soaked my nails for about ten minutes after asking her. I wanted my nails and cuticles to me soft. Cindy cut my nails, cuticles and sanded them down. She even used the electric sand drill too. However, I wasn't satisfied with the end results. I did not say anything till she said she was done. The pedicure was not to my satisfaction and I asked politely to do a little more of the left big toenail and touch up work on the others. Cindy did one hell of a job on the Cucumber Melon leg mask and foot massage. It is because of the foot massage, I went for the Chair Massage. Apparently I am the first customer to have it done. It was well worth it for twenty minutes after the pedicure. THE MASSAGE CHAIR EXPERIENCE: The chair massage is located just past the costume jewelry. The massage chair is in the second part of store where where a bunch of doors are. It is a quieter area of the shop, but you are still out in the open where you can be seen. Cindy did great work on my legs and feet that I tried the chair massage. The twenty was a tester to see how I would like a massage put in the open. Although no one entered the shop while being massaged by Cindy, I did feel very relaxed. Almost to the point where I could have fallen asleep. Since it is a chair massage and the fact I did twenty minutes only, only my upper back, lower back and some glutes were done. Still, the massage chair experience is worth it. THE WAXING EXPERIENCE: Now what wasn't great was Cindy's waxing. Granted Vicky wanted to learn/ get experience at doing waxing and I was cool with this. I had already told Vicky about getting a Brazilian Waxing Job done. This was no surprise to Vicky, but when the time came to get my waxing done, Cindy bec as me very shy. I was told by Vicky that Cindy won't do Brazilian Waxing on me. Seriously?! This was the work I needed the most attention to. This came as a surprise to Vicky, because she had this sheepish grin on her face when she had to explain why Cindy wouldn't do the Brazilian Waxing. Cindy wouldn't even do full legs because is is too shy. Turns out attention to detail isn't Cindy's strong points, because I had to repeatedly show her areas of my half legs she missed. She was rushing and seemed to be getting impatient with me even though I was polite and giving her chance after chance to fix the problems. Vicky had a client so she wasn't there to witness the failure to remove hair. Vicky is not trained in waxing either so this option is lost. Upon leaving I got the feeling I wasn't very welcome back. To be perfectly honest, Cindy did me a favor by not doing the Brazilian Waxing. If her attention to detail is this inapt, I would be better going elsewhere. Nina had more courage to work on me than Cindy. More importantly, Nina's attention to detail is better suited for me and other people. Thanks for your time Vicky, but I think I will look elsewhere. read more

What a huge disappointment! I called in to schedule an appointment. When I arrived, they were not available. Didn't tell me how long the wait would be. Didn't offer to reschedule... They looked at me as though I was an alien from outer space. I had dropped my plans to get this service. What an inconvenience!! What a waste of time!! I cannot consciously support a business that does not value a customer, take a customer for granted, and has no respect for a customer's time. NO, I do not recommend this place. read more

i was a walk in at 3 pm on a tuesday and it was luckily empty despite the glowing reviews! with no wait, i got seated immediately for a gel pedi. I chose the Rose Spa which included a hot stone massage and 15 min massage with leg mask, and i had zero regrets. It is a more premium package at $65 but i thought it was worth every penny! both the owners, Vicky and her husband were very courteous and meticulous in doing my toes, and removing callouses. Vicky especially was very sweet and made great conversation. you can see how they put their heart and soul into their work and care about their customers. it was halloween season- and she gave little goodies to her customers. also gave mini water bottles too! i'll definitely be back. wish nyc had this kind of customer service and hospitality! thanks Vicky:) read more

I walked in and wanted to do a quick manicure. The nail tech was extremely attentive, offered quick service, and my nails looked amazing.

I was a walk-in an hour before closing on a Sunday. I got a mani/pedi. They were able to help me. I had a great experience. I didn't feel rushed or that the quality went down. I loved the attention I got on my toes. It is winter and no one is looking at them but my feet were left beautifully. I wanted to be able to wear sandals for at least two weeks. You also get a massage. There is a timer set but not once did they look at the timer between the massage or slow down. read more

I don't know where to start- the whole thing was a little weird. A friend and I walked in for manicures and they were able to take us right away which was great. The color selection for their gel was ok. I was in the mood for a poppy/coral pink but their choices were a lot of lighter pinks, bright reds, or orange. There wasn't a lot of middle ground between the three. They did, however, offer them in glossy or matte finishes. The woman who did my nails did a great job. I have very natural, very short nails. No acrylics or anything and she used a dremel on my nails which I was not excited about because I know when it's time to remove this gel, my nails are now going to be even more weak. She finished my nails before my friend was done and I was offered a free 10 min massage from someone in a back room. The masseuse (who waved off a question from me with "no english!") proceeded to drill her thumb into my shoulder over and over while my face was smushed into the perforated paper towel that covered the face rest on the massage chair thing. it was the least relaxing 10 minutes of my life. when it was time to pay, i was charged $42 even tho the posted price for a gel manicure was $37. read more

Go here now! I rarely leave reviews but want to RAVE about Umi Nails. It is in a nondescript , small strip of stores, but stop here! Inside it's another world and clear they put some thought into decor w/ bright colors and Matisse prints. Chic and also relaxing. All the equipment looks very new and clean. This is probably one of the worst pedicure experiences I have ever had. You normally book a pedicure to relax and destress after a long day at work, and this was the complete opposite experience that I had. First, the place should be shut down based on cleanliness. They file your nails with nail filers that so clearly have no grain on them and have been used and overused on multiple people. They also wanted to use a dirty and overused callus remover before I had to stop him and ask if that had been sterilized (he did not end up using it). Second, the water was so cold and apparently instead of draining it, he thought it was a good idea to stick a pot in the tub to remove the water before refilling. Third, I was not offered a spa treatment, but I am extremely thankful because it would have taken him a hour more on top of the two hours that I was already sitting there. YES, TWO hours for a simple regular pedicure. I was the only one in the salon when I got there and TWO people had come in and were done with their pedicures while he was STILL working on mine. My cuticles on my toes were barely removed, filing was uneven and he had to re-paint one of my toes twice and another toe three times. He continuously kept clumping up the nail polish and had to remove the paint and start over. That man should definitely not be doing nails! I left there extremely upset and stressed out and the manager that was there had the audacity to give me attitude when I said that I did not have time to sit and wait for my toes to dry. I simply wanted to get out of that place after being there for two hours for only a pedicure. They should not be offering pedicure services, worst salon ever! read more

I wanted to like this place. The staff are kind and it's very clean. The first time I went in, the guy who's station is the first one when you walk in had a hard time doing my full set--the other guy had to take over. But I decided to give them another chance. 2nd time was fine, but wasn't with the same gentleman. 3rd time ended up with the guy from the first time. When doing my pedicure, he did the callus removal so vigorously that my foot bled. He only stopped when I said it hurt. I didn't notice the bleeding until we'd moved on to my manicure. I had to ask for a bandage. 3 days later and my heel is still painful and I can't walk on it. That being said, the girl beside him did an amazing ombre nail color on the girl sitting next to me. The guy who did my services shouldn't be doing nails. I've attached a photo, it's blurry, but you can see it wasn't just a little snag. He should have realized sooner what he was doing! read more
