This place and staff are amazing. We went there last night to celebrate the college graduation of my two nieces. We made reservations and when we got there we were shown to our tables immediately. Our server was very nice and so efficient! We were a party of ten (including a three year old)! She took our orders and made sure we were all served at the same time and made sure we were all happy through out our meal. The food was amazing, we all had the sushi and a couple of other dishes. Just wonderful! We even had a cake we ordered from the pastry department at the casino! Such a decadent chocolate cake...wow! You really need to try this place! read more

UME - we got the scallop roll and THAT was actually pretty good. We also got the sashimi platter. The sashimi was fine, not grade A fish but not terrible. Something you would find at ay revolving sushi bar. The shrimp, though, was dry. They definitely used just a regular ol shrimp and not sweet shrimp. We also got the Ume sample platter which is mostly a platter of their fried offerings like eggrolls, fried dumplings, cheese wontons, and chicken wings. Nothing special. The wings were the tastiest and least over-fried. We also got the ramen which was NOT ramen unfortunately. Basically, it's like they got a pack of quick noodles, frozen vegetable stir fry, and hard boiled eggs (not the soft boiled ones in authentic ramen places) and dumped them in a pot and called it ramen. I wouldn't recommend it. We ordered a seafood noodle soup. I commend them for putting a lot of toppings because most restaurants won't give you a lot of toppings and just make the bowl look full with noodles. This one was actually hearty from both the udon noodles and all the seafood in it. However, the entire dish just tasted salty. So that was also a miss. Finally, the drinks. We ordered cold sake (good; can't go wrong with Sake) and two Shiso Sexy cocktails. As my sister put it, "This cocktail is not what I expected. This is like if Windex we're a cocktail." It was STRONG and affordable though, so if you are not much for the taste of $15 craft cocktails and just want to get hit HARD, you might enjoy have enjoyed it. GREAT service though. read more

Came here last night for happy hour and a little gambling. My fiancé and I had their Spicy Edamame, Crab Rangoons, the Playboy Roll, Spicy Crab Roll, and Cucumber Crab salad! We decided to stop at the bar during happy hour to catch the basketball game, enjoy some drinks & eat a few appetizers. The game was on at Ume AND it was happy hour to boot! I ordered a Cape Cod and was delighted that it was both good & only $3! My husband got a $5 margarita - also good! They were so good, we each had another! To eat we ordered egg rolls($2), pot stickers ($4) & crab puffs($4). All very tasty! The wait staff was friendly & efficient. The food came quickly, too! Awful service...we ordered drinks during happy hour and the bartender didn't come back around until a minute after happy hour ended...20 minutes later to get our food order after we tried flagging her down multiple times. She finally agreed to give us HH prices so we ordered 3 dishes. Only 2 came out and when we gave her our cards to pay, we told her to take off the sushi roll we never got. She told us it was sitting by the kitchen and was ready. Really? Then why didn't we get it sooner? And why would we want sushi that was then sitting out for 20 minutes. We got the check and it ended up being double what it was supposed to be. She told us she could only give us a 40% discount instead of HH prices and told us the wine we got was not on HH despite us asking about the wines and pointing to the HH menu. Food (chow mein) was a pile of gruel covered in fried chips. It made me sick both seeing and partaking. Great happy hour menu with great drink specials!..Ume calls it Happiness Hour and runs every day until 7pm WHAT?!..The menu has appetizers and drink specials (premium wells, draught beer, hot Sake, Japanese Whisky) for $4..They have some cocktails and wine by the glass for $6 and seven different small plates for $7 each..It's definitely worth the trip out to the casino for one of the best happy hours in Tucson! read more

Well our first night without kids in a long time. We thought it would be great. But ... well.... so many wrong things. Except for Rafael, the nice young man who helped us eke our server ignored us and verified that the sauce they gave us for the tofu lettuce wraps was NOT vegan, but CHICKEN based. We told our server multiple times that we are vegan. But Cindy, our server, didn't seem to get this and said "oh the tempura has flour so you probably can't have it." Really?? Did I say "gluten free?" No I said VEGAN. Then ordered soft drinks, and half an hour later she came to finally take our food order and said, "oh yeah! You wanted waters, right?" Wow. Just wow. Anyhow, she took our cucumber salad orders and our vegetable, cucumber and avocado roll order. Another half hour goes by and she comes by to refill his drink, which we finally got. "Are you ready to order?" "Ummmm ... we did, remember?" "Oh yeah! Silly me I forgot and put it in." Had to ask for plates several times. Had to ask for wasabi and ginger for the rolls twice. Had to ask for dressing for the cucumber salads that were, well, basically cucumber with the water drained at the bottom of the bowl. No flavor. No seasoning. Nothing. But Rafael was really nice. Although we got there an hour and a half before closing, the manager came to our table to let us know to place our order due to the kitchen closing in an hour and a half. The lo mein was super salty. The Tonkotsu ramen was something I've never come across before. The broth was brown (not typical of Tonkotsu) and super salty. We also had the chicken lettuce wraps and chicken wings and it was all pretty tasty. The prices were reasonable for happy hour. Back at Ume for a typical weekend visit. It's a concert night so it's hopping. Played some $5 blackjack (yay) and used free play while we waited for bar seats to open. Still no weekend happy hour but it's advertised..... don't get me started. The menu has some new items and we obliged. The sampler is a decent deal, 6 wings, 3 egg rolls, 6 crab wonton, 6 potstickers (with 4 sauces) for $16. We will order it again. I orderded the sesame shrimp. Will not order it again. The broccoli needed a minute more in the steamer. They cooked the big shrimp perfectly, but the sauce just doesn't go. It's meant for chicken. Will stick with the sweet and sour shrimp. When Lady Luck turns mean and nasty, Ume is the perfect place to get away and give that lady some time to think about her actions and get ready to make amends. From the moment we entered Ume, we were treated exceptionally well. The hostess was more than pleasant and our server was a real professional. We ordered a TON of food. Here is the rundown: * Potstickers: abundantly filled and lightly fried. Slightly lacking in flavor but overall pretty decent. * Egg rolls: Delicious and just like the potstickers, filled quite full. * Crab Puffs: Oh so good and there is actual crab in them! * Squid Salad: I'm a sucker for a good squid salad and Ume's was so bright and fresh tasting that I didn't want to share. Luckily L isn't much of a squid person so I got to enjoy every last bite. * Scallops: Lightly grilled with butter and lemon and served with white rice, stir fried noodles and veggies. The scallops were perfectly cooked, sweet and succulent. I just wish the lemon flavor came through a little more. The veggies in the stir fried noodles were cooked to perfection and really stood out compared to similar dishes I've had elsewhere. * Pork Fried Rice: A little on the oily side and a bit sweeter than either of our palates were used to but still good. * Mongolian Beef: Heavenly, tender, spicy, so-good-I-wished-I-had-ordered-it-for-myself * Mu Shu Pork: An unfamiliar dish for me and I did sample it. Not sure on this one but L loved it and quickly ate his fill. So we ate our fill, packaged up the rest and took it to our room and mini-fridge to eat later. Overall, a really good experience. After spending 35 years living in southern California, I think I know good Asian food when I eat it and Ume's hit the nail on the head. Definitely big enough to share--even a good size as a light-meal all alone. Just as described, with delicious chunks of poke on a bed of seeded and sliced cucumbers. For our main dish to split we ordered, or we thought we ordered the "extra old sauce" beef & vegetable with rice. When the waitress brought it out though she said, "Here's your fried rice." A surprise. But, even without any vegetables, it was the best fried rice. Nice chunks of well-cooked beef. Drove out to Casino del Sol to have dinner and play a little blackjack. Decided on Asian after we arrived and were promptly seated when we approached Ume. Ordered drinks and a couple apps to begin. Sea salt calamari was decent, bit on the chewy side but the lotus chips with ahi were so good. Our dinner entrees arrived about 5-10 minutes later. Timings pretty spot on. I got sushi and SO got Mongolian beef. No complaints other than it was just TOO MUCH food! We took over half our entrées home with us! Sushi was great, not the best I've ever had but it was dang yummy. The Mongolian beef was flavorful and portion was ridiculously large. Drinks were just okay. Nothing to write home about. The first time I went here it was to try the all you can eat sushi and I brought my mom with me. The sushi was amazing but the service was on a rockstar level. Feliz, went above and beyond to accommodate us and I didn't really ask for anything out of the ordinary, I just asked for some paper towels from the hand sink to wipe my nose because what I was eating was spicy lead to a runny nose....we have all been there when eating spicy food. Feliz brought me a kitchen towel. I didn't want to soil this towel with my snot and I know the kitchen staff would rather put that towel to better use. Feliz, instead brought me paper napkins when all I asked for was just the rough stuff to wipe our hands clean on after we wash our hands just to wipe my nose. From that point I KNEW that Feliz is awesome at what she does. The second time I went to Ume with my dad and roommate we got a different server, not Feliz. My roommate and I both opted for the all you can sushi and dad ordered a la carte. The first thing the server started with was that those who order all you can eat sushi must not share and cannot take leftovers home....I know how all you can eat works! I don't need a server to tell me or make me feel like a child by explaining "the rules" to me. Strike and a miss! I immediately requested a new server because a great server or service doesn't make you feel like you're being talked to like a child or criminal, which is how this person made me feel. I see Feliz working the floor and I asked her to be my server again after I explained to her my experience with the previous server and she was more than happy to oblige. Great service again and she fixed the drink order that the previous server botched. Tonight we took my mom in for Mexican Mother's Day this time. I had called earlier in the day to try to reserve a table. The woman on the phone explained to me that they were not taking reservations because they were "booked" but we're welcomed come find a table that would not be guaranteed for a party of eight. This woman on the phone came off curt and I felt brushed off at some point as I was trying to figure out if they'd take us in as a walk in. The woman on the phone made me feel like we would not get a table as a walk. The time came to take mom for dinner and we rolled the dice and went anyway. The restaurant was less than busy for a Friday night and we received a table for a party of eight with the agreement that there would be an 18% gratuity added to the bill...no problem. As soon as I saw Feliz the server I immediately requested her as our server because she fuckin rocks! Right off the bat she accommodated us while we waited for the rest of our party to show up. The rest of our party ran late and only two of five showed up. After that I went to Feliz and asked her if they would rather put us at a smaller table because I didn't feel comfortable taking a big tablet if it meant that they could potentially lose money. Feliz assured me that it was a slower than usual night and said it was ok. Feliz like always provided stellar service for us and went above and beyond and for that I still tipped her the extra gratuity and 30% on top of the bill. So when you go to eat at Ume I suggest your request Feliz to be your server. I wish every restaurant I went to had a team of servers like Feliz. read more
