I would say Ume is a 3.5 overall but rounding up. I've been here twice and I've gotten the mango pomelo sago and strawberry pomelo sago drink. This is probably the best thing they have! My bf and my friends have gotten various milk tea drinks here and i have to say they're very subpar when there's so many other boba places in the area. Highly recommend the mango pomelo sago! Their prices have been rising but it was my go to milk tea joint before. However, they bumped their prices to 6 bucks for a large rounded up and their quality hasn't gone up with it. To start off, Ume has a super cute logo. Their rewards card is always cute but as a heads up, they are locked and only usable per store. The inside is cute and decorated but over the 6months I have frequented this place, it's been going quite steep. The floors are turning black, the kiosk is grimey and disgusting, everything is unsanitary from the foot in. Other than that their drinks provided relief after work. My favorite was the black milk tea and the black sugar milk tea. It was amazing the first few times I went but now it's quite a shell of its former self. The black sugar was burnt the last time I went and had thus strange burnt caramel undertaste. The pearls aren't up to par with what they were originally. I prefer solid pearls but they are quite undercooked. Service is slow but I understand since their worker to order ratio is quite vast. Now the outside. They removed the menus outside for some reason and therefore you have to squint and refer to the menu above the workers making drinks. I really like the Ume Tea in Cupertino and was really disappointed by my experience at this one. If you don't want to read my long rant below, a summary is that the drinks are good but the service is really bad. Go to the one in Cupertino if you can! // O R D E R - Jasmine Green Tea with Cheese Top - Black Milk Tea - Popcorn Chicken (mild spicy) // S E R V I C E / E X P E R I E N C E I came here a few min before 11 AM, when the store opens. Since the door was open, I walked in and tried to place an order on the tablet but the employees told me they weren't open yet. To be fair, this was a few minutes before they officially open so I left and walked around for a bit before I came back. Once I was back, no one paid me any attention so I had to literally holler at the employees in the back to see if they were "open" now. After I placed my order, a guy behind me ordered as well. One of the store employees personally went to inform him that they had no boba ready, but didn't think to tell me as well. I had to proactively go to her as she was walking back to let her know that I ordered boba too. Remember, there are only 2 customers in the store right now, but they seem to have forgotten about me. Even though it was a weekday night almost close to their closing time of 9pm, there was a short line and crowd of people waiting for their drinks. Our drinks took awhile to be ready ~15min. Brown sugar pearl milk tea - personally I didn't like it. It was bitter even at 75% sweetness, boba was soft and the brown sugar didn't have a strong caramelized taste like other boba places. King fone tea - fragrant, simple, and I think the quality of the tea was pretty good, as they really took the time to brew it. Unfortunately it is really expensive, at $4.75 for a large plain tea without any toppings. I thought it came with cheese foam but that is an additional charge based on the menu. Been here maybe 5-6 times and I tried a few drinks now but I think I've finally settled on a favorite drink here. I think I've even found my go-to drink now at every boba shop if they have it. For me it's gonna be the strawberry green tea slush with cheese top. Not too sweet, and then the cheese top changes the flavor into more of a strawberry milk towards the end. Ume Tea has a couple of locations around the Bay Area, and this location is a pickup-and-go or delivery place that very occasionally has outdoor seating. Sometimes the next-door restaurant leaves a table and chairs out, but generally, if Ume has set out seating, there are very few places you can sit. Milpitas Square doesn't really have benches and this is the side of the plaza that gets the full brunt of the winter sunlight during noon and afternoon. There are many boba/dessert drink places in the Square, and Ume is one of the ones that have hours consistently opened a bit earlier and later than most others. Good for after brunch or dinner. I really appreciate that they have a sound system outside as well to help call out order numbers, as most people have to wait outside. Inside is too small for the amount of foot traffic they sometimes get so kudos for the efficiency. Their drinks lean more towards specifically Asian ingredients/flavors (specific kinds of tea, taro, mochi, etc.) though is still on the sweet side for me. Very cutesy. Plenty of parking due to location, just very convenient as part of the plaza you can get a meal at if you're staying here in the hotels across the street (I think a lot of layovers stay here) or if you're in one of the many offices in this area.
