This was our first stop on our winery tour of Temecula. Everywhere else was closed (It was New Year's Day) and my friend pulled into the first parking lot that was filled with cars. Las, it was Maurice Car'rie!!! I thought to myself. . .it looks like a barn. . .or something. It looked a little run down, but when I stepped in, I thought, "awww, isn't this kind of charming?" Anyways, the ladies were very nice. I decided to do the 2 wineries for $15 deal. . .and after tasting the first six wines here. . .I decided that I liked the red wines more here than the sparkling or whites. . .the cab, shiraz and pinot noir were all a hit with me. I think I bought a bottle of shiraz home. By the time I was done wine tasting here, I was thoroughly buzzed (note: wine tasting is NOT an excuse for me to get drunk, I unfortunately have a low tolerance) enough to buy three bottles of wine at the sister winery, La Cereza just up the street. LOVE their sourdough bread w/ baked brie & garlic butter spread! Freshly baked at the winery...so yummy. Perfect after wine tasting at a few of the wineries. Every time I go to the Temecula wine country, I have to pick one up. You can get it unbaked to go for a great dinner party appetizer at home. The winery itself isn't the nicest. It does look very country. There are several wooden benches for outside seating. Also several vendors out front, like a farmers market. The wines are good. Their Riesling is my favorite. This review is for the baked sourdough brie only. It is delicious, and I highly recommend it. I don't know how I had never heard of it on previous Temecula trips or tried it before now. I was on a wine tour and our driver took us by Maurice Car'rie even though we weren't drinking wine there to get some to go. My friend and I actually didn't get ours right away because the line was too long and the service was too slow. Our driver eventually went back and picked it up for us later while we were at Oak Mountain, and we ate our brie bread with wine margaritas. Perfection. I recommend that you eat it how a fellow Oak Mountain patron taught me: cut the wheel into wedges and consume like it's a grilled cheese. Soooo good. I would say though that you need at least four people to consume this beast. My friend and I ate about a third of the whole thing together just the two of us, and we still have upset stomachs two days later. I can normally eat pretty much anything and be fine so... this is REALLY rich. It's worth it. read more

Found a nice table and the bar staff were great. We ordered a few items and they arrived, including our cheese board. Cheese board came and it was great. Until the female manager walked up to our table. Exited the building. Went straight to our table. No introduction. No greeting. Just said we can't have outside food. We apologized and said we'll put the cake away. She says no not the cake the cheese board. We politely informed her that it was the cheeseboard we purchased here. She says oh I didn't recognize the platter. Walks straight to the building. We noticed the table next to us had a cooler with outside beer. They didn't address them. We then looked around and realized we were the only Hispanic party around. We spoke to the manager who begrudgingly refunded us for the board but no one apologized. We decided to not let that ruin our day so we continued with our celebration. A few minutes later we an employee who had been working join the table next to us which shows they don't equally enforce the no outside food rule if they're friends of employees. Fast forward 45 minutes and we still hadn't received a portion of our food order despite asking multiple times. What was once a good place to hang out isn't great anymore. Most likely will not return as there are plenty of other establishments nearby. Like I said the bar staff were great. But management seemed flustered and were unaware of their own food choices. We waited 90 minutes for my niece's soup. After that we waited an hour for another cheese board that never came so I had to ask for a refund. read more

One of my favorite places in Temecula. We go there for the brie baked bread. The bread was fresh, hot out the oven and very crusty. We bought a bottle of Syrah and sat outside the covered porch and listened to the DJ playing Rock N Roll oldies and Sinatra. It was a very hot day but with was comfortable with the breezes and some of the AC seemed to spill outdoors. Great view of the Temecula valley and not really crowded for a Sunday afternoon. One of he friends had purchased their Muscat at a Stater Bros. for $5.00. WTH? This is a trend that we hope does not stay with the wineries here. Buy a wine at a grocery store for less then if you were to but it from the actual winery itself. WTH?? So we planned a trip and took My GF's friend and her boyfriend. They both are new to the wine world so we like breaking newbies in, and this place is a perfect starting point. Out of the whole menu, I only liked the Tempranillo. That was it. Done. I'm really picky about my red and more picky about my whites. Don't do Champagnes, which I found odd that there was a whole other bar for those drinks. LOVED this winery! Recently went with a party bus of people to Temecula to visit 3 wineries and this one was our favorite. We stopped here last, and had been drinking for 3 hours or so now, and the excellent and friendly staff at Maurice Car'rie Winery welcomed our wine soaked happiness right in. We sang Happy Birthday to our friend as a crowd (21 of us!) and the staff and others visiting joined right in. They then followed up with a special decorated wine glass for him. I shared my tasters with my boyfriend and the excellent staff gave us a little extra on our pours because of that. They let me try sips of wines when I was interested in tasting similar flavors before committing to a pour. We also brought some fresh, warm, house baked Sourdough for $3.99. Wife and I stopped here on out way of Temecula. Wine was mediocre, on par with the rest of the Temecula wineries. It was crowded and service was poor, again right on par. The thing that really turned me off was during our tasting the host gave us the last bit of wine out of the bottle. He picked up the bottle. ..looked at it and decided it was good enough. ..I was thinking don't do it...don't do it. ..don't do it...and as I suspected a glass of sediment...great job. They get an extra star for hot fresh sour dough bread. Word of advice, if you're serious about wine, take the extra bit of time and go to Santa Barbara or Paso Robles. Across the board Temecula just isn't there yet. read more

I used to enjoy the weekend vibe here especially since they had a live DJ "Jimmy Jam" which gave it an awesome Vibe. I enjoyed chilling and dancing to the smooth tunes supplied by DJ Jimmy Jam. But since the new owners took over and decided to do away with the Live DJ kind of killed the weekend Vibe there for me. Now I might grab some Bre and go to one of the other winery's with live music and kick back. They really need to bring back the Live DJ. read more

When we arrived to the location from the Los Angeles area on a Sunday afternoon, I must admit we did not really know which winery to go to first. Our hunger prevailed as we saw a huge sign in the front touting home cooked food. So now we are there and have to go past this swap meet of vendors in the front selling everything from crystals to t-shirts. Really? So we go into the main area where there were tastings as well as a deli. We did the tasting which not only charged for the tasting but also charged for the wine glasses. What?!?! We did not want wine glasses! So we picked out the wine we wanted at $16.00 per bottle and go into the restaurant and ordered chicken sandwiches with their "famous" sourdough bread. The bread was sooo dry and hard. YUK!!! The deli itself will nickle and dime you for everything from charging you for every pat of butter and for plastic utensils and napkins. Not worth the drive and we noticed there were other wineries in the area that were doing the same tourist trap behavior. Shame on you guys. We should have gone to the San Antonio Winery in Los Angeles where they really know how to treat patrons. Come on, you have to know that people are going there to buy wine, and food, why do you have to nickle and dime them to death? read more

I was excited to come back here recently. I came last year solely for a 5k through the vineyards but didn't do any wine tastings. This year, our wine tour guide dropped us off for lunch. The grounds are absolutely serene and gorgeous and as I remembered last year, there was again a market set up outside with local vendors' wares. We were with a group of six and split a few of those sourdough brie breads. Yes, it was very garlicy but we were ALL in heaven of that dish. Yum! The cheese plate was decent and it seemed like everyone enjoyed their food. I had a glass of Riesling which was nice. The servers were pleasant and in good spirits. Although we didn't have time for a full tasting, I look forward to doing that when I come back to Temecula. read more

I have never experience not only poor customer service, in the management department , but also racism. My family and I love Temecula and all of the wineries. We decided to celebrate Mother's Day at this particular winery, which by the way we have been to many times. Everything was going great, we found parking and a picnic table under a shaded area. My adult daughter and I went inside and ordered four paninis, a Brie sourdough, a large cheese board, and a carafe of sangria. I tipped $20.00 as well. Our food was brought out rather quickly. I had brought a cake to celebrate Mother's Day. I knew outside food was not allowed but I had called to inquire if a celebratory cake was allowed and was told it was fine. A lady, who I later found out is named Parity and is a manager, walks straight to our table, interrupts our celebration and without any type of greeting, welcome, or a simple hello says "Outside food is not allowed." I replied and told her I would take the cake to the car. She said the cake was fine she was talking about the food. I told her I spent almost $200.00 purchasing the food and wine from the winery. She then looked at the table and said oh I didn't realize because the cheese is served on a different type of board. I said "shouldn't you be familiar with the food you serve here so you don't assume and accuse customers of bringing in outside food?" I also asked her if someone complained or if she singled us out because we were Mexican. She said she is telling everyone. She said "ok you guys are fine" and walked to the next table without an apology. Mind you the table next to us had a cool and outside beer. I saw one of them taking the cans out and pouring it into a plastic cup. I have pictures. She then went back inside the winery without advising anyone else about the no outside food policy. I assumed the table next to us complained even though they brought outside alcohol. They of course were exempt from the policy, they were white. I was in shock and in disbelief about how we were treated and I went inside to speak with a manager. I spoke with the male manager and explained the situation and he didn't apologize for our experience either, he said he has also been telling people outside food is not allowed. He missed the point and an opportunity to rectify it. I told him I want a refund for the cheese board and bread and someone could come pick it up because we lost our appetite and I wouldn't be spending any more of my hard earned income there. He didn't apologize, he didn't ask how he can make the situation better either. He definitely need training. He said he would refund me those items and we went back to the table. Well the plot thickens. Who did I see sitting with the white family next to us? One of the bartenders of the winery. She's the one I tipped $20.00 . I am In Law Enforcement, however not a detective. Seems the table next to us assumed we had outside food and complained to their friend or relative (female bartender) and she must have told management and that is why the manager came straight to our table without even looking at the food we were eating. Shame on all of you! The table next to us didn't even purchase food and brought outside alcohol. My sister spent approximately 300.00 in food and wine as well. I'm just disgusted with how poorly we were treated. My nephew is a marine and served tours in Iraq. We put our lives on the line for strangers and you look at the color of our skin and hate for no reason. Shame on you!! read more

I came here for a winetasting because we had a 2 for 1 coupon at temeculawineries.org. When we parked here, their were a couple of tents out there with women selling goods and trinkets. The winetasting itself was not memorable or anything special if you ask me. You get 5 tastings for $10 and you get to keep your wineglass which is nice. The women that helped us was very nice and somewhat helpful. Their selection however wasn't very good. There wasn't a variety or much to choose from. I could have skipped this place. read more

THE BREAD = GET IT NO LIE.. i dont like cheese at all... but literally.. i came back here on a monday just to get the bread... i was sad though because it was prepped, but i had to oven it and everything myself ... which means it wasnt as delicious the first time i had it. the only downside is that it is pricey.. but its a whole wheel of brie cheese in the bread.. so i understand the price.. its around $16 i believe. the PAPA REDS wine is delicious. i recommend it! Unfortunately, there were a few rude people who were clearly "angry drunks" or just unhappy with their personal lives that made everyone at the bar annoyed. Although I used to live in this area, I didn't go do the wine-tasting thing all too much. So I never tried Maurice Car'rie's wines. I came here during a weekday with my wife and we had a 2-for-1 coupon. Never come to the wineries without the 2-for-1 coupons. Why? Well, if you don't have it, you'll feel ripped off and sometimes the trip isn't worth it since Napa is the true wine country. Maurice Car'rie, as we were informed by the lovely and knowledgeable Christa, specialize in white wines. She said that if we were into reds, we should visit their sister winery, La Cereza, the next winery to the east. In tasting their wines, it is true that their reds really aren't all that great. For you lushes who don't really care about the taste of wine, there was one red, the Sangiovese that boasts 15% alcohol content that you may like. Other than that, the reds don't quite taste all that great. We started off getting the pineapple champagne, which was a little flavorless. The best on the list, we thought, was the Riesling. Apparently, it was a gold medal winner in some year (I can't remember). Now, as for the coupons, go here: http://www.temeculawines.org/ and download their 2-for-1 coupons. It's not always the same wineries so you can go to all different ones at different times. Be sure to use them on the weekdays though because they won't take them on the weekends. read more

Maurice Car'rie was our first stop out of 4 wineries for one of my girlfriends' 30th birthday, and I have to say it was my favorite! I really loved their wines and champagne, the people were super nice and friendly, and the place was beautiful! Driving up, the grounds and buildings are really pretty, and have a nice laid-back feel. There were some tents set up outside with some vendors selling wares, which usually I'm not a fan of, however they were non-obtrusive and it was actually fun to browse around with your glass of wine. Once inside, we got 5 tastings for $10 and it included the wine glass. Great price! I tried all of their champagnes, and really liked them all, but the raspberry was my favorite. I almost bought a bottle of it, then tried their port (Sweet Shaylee), and decided to get a bottle of it instead! I really liked their port, I love sweet wines and this one is great! And then before getting a bottle of the port I tried the Sweet Kai, and liked it EVEN MORE!! I have to say I think the Sweet Kai is my favorite wine here, and quite possibly my favorite wine of our whole trip to Temecula! So I definitely left with a bottle of the Sweet Kai, and one of our other girlfriends did as well! The other girls really liked the Sara Bella as well and Cody's Crush too...I think I had Cody's Crush...honestly everything I had here at Maurice Car'rie I really enjoyed! Like I said, I like sweet wines, and theirs were pretty much exactly what I like! Our bartender that helped us was also very sweet, an older gentleman that was definitely a firecracker! He kept us entertained and our wine glasses full, and we had a marvelous time! There was also a younger guy and a couple ladies as well, all very pleasant and good-natured! We had a wonderful time here at Maurice Car'rie, and it was a perfect first stop on our winery tour! A hot summer day, chilling on a porch or patio. To me, that sums up the character of both the wine and the atmosphere at Maurice Car'rie. Don't come for their rich, classic Reds. Come for their modern whites and red-white blends served cold. Very casual feel to be enjoyed! Their famous baked brie was Ok, but probably not worth the $14ish bucks. Think brie baked inside Garlic Bread. Tasty, but not to-die-for. Also, feel free to bring outside food to their picnic areas along their lawns. They welcome it as long as you order some of their bread or wine. Nice touch. read more

As far as I can tell, this place is more of a pit stop before you get to the better wineries down the street. They have a restaurant. They have bathrooms. They have pre-made rock-hard gelato. They often have craft tents selling flea market quality items out front. Oh, and they also offer wine tasting. Definitely will not be your destination, but a quirky stop along the way. None of the wines are very memorable. Now that I'm re-reading my review, I'm wondering why I gave them 4 stars... I guess I'm feeling generous and nothing was really bad here. Now we generally go to 3-4 wineries when we visit and this place is always out last stop. Why? Well because the sourdough bread. It's always freshly bakes and warm. I think the root is just poor management, my husband and I came here for a date on a Saturday-late afternoon. Ordered he brie bread and two drinks, found the only table in the shade, near the gazebo and sat out to await the live music...only to discover the reason for the open table was the group of drunken rowdies in the gazebo, who had brought their children and their own champagne-they were popping the cork themselves. Still being served by the bar but supplementing their beligerence. Finally, they popped a cork and shook the bottle to spray the contents all over us. We were amazed at the lack of decorum-not just on their part but the servers and management allowing this to take place. We went inside to ask for a manager and the server went to get her but then returned to ask what we wanted her for??? Really, she did not want to interact with anyone-did not know what was going on because she did not want to come out of the office. She said she was sorry and offered to give us a few glasses of wine but at that point I did not feel safe and she did not even attempt to go out and put an end to the problem...sorry but there are too many other places around to spend $100. on a Saturday date. My wife and I are into big reds ... Mostly paso robles area .... We read and heard about this place because of the baked Brie and cheese. We called ahead to have it pre baked and arrived 10 minutes later ... After a quick wine tasting of thin temecula wines our bread was ready. It was good, although probably not too healthy with the butter garlic and cheese, but what the heck. Bread gets 3 stars, wine is nothing special for folks who have a more experienced pallet. Awesome winery. They have a garlic bread baked brie which is delicious and super filling! Its a must have at this place. Tasting fee was $15 but you get to keep the glass. They have a good selection of wine and the ladies that pour your tastings are so nice and personable. This is not like one of the big commercial wineries. They even did a few tastings for us which they used an aerator so we could compare the difference. I purchased some of their cuvee sparkling which is very reasonable priced and great tasting. One thing I found out was that the cuvee is a combo of all the different flavors but they do have sparkling wines in the various single flavors, peach etc. Just an interesting note. This spot has more of an old-timey, country vibe so I wasn't expecting to be too thrilled, but my group ended up having a great time here! We tasted with Jean, who was so sweet, motherly, and definitely a wino at heart...I find that the winos are much more fun to taste with versus the studied experts ;) My boyfriend and I shared a tasting of both whites and reds while my best friend had her own tasting of all whites and blushes, and Jean was able to guide our different tastes very well. I've gotta say that even as a red fan, these lighter wines really appealed to me! The sauv blanc was perfect and the California champagne was INCREDIBLE! So drinkable and free of that headache-inducing sweetness - perfect for a wedding or any kind of celebration, really. My friend loved her blushes, with her favorite being Sara Bella. As far as the reds, I would recommend skipping Cody's Crush (chilled and super sweet) and going straight to the Tempranillo. Such a full-bodied, smokey red! My boyfriend and I both loved it and got a double pour of it, and I'm kind of wishing now that I had snagged a bottle too. Absolutely delicious. Last but definitely not least were the dessert wines, which I usually skip over but was encouraged by Jean to try. My heart belongs to a tawny port from Daniel Gehrs in Los Olivos, and Maurice Car'rie's Posh port was almost a dead-ringer for it! I also really enjoyed the Cream Sherry...but who WOULDN'T love a 19% wine that tastes like straight caramel and pecans?! Overall a fun and educational experience, and I'd recommend it to any champagne, white, or port lover in particular. That Tempranillo alone is what's calling me back! As we went from winery to winery...this is the only memory I have of this location sadly...hopefully I can go back and try it again and have a better review...but it must have been good! What I do remember about this location was the AMAZING sourdough bread with brie creation they sell fresh out of the oven and hot and steaming...we waited about 30 minutes for our and to be seated..between the 3 of us...we only go through about 2/3rds of it...and that was us being hungry too! Since this is technically a winery I can't necessarily base this review on one thing alone and for that reason I have to give them 4 stars. This place is cute. It's cottage style, great music, there's usually a craft fair of some sort up front and it's very friendly and homey feeling. As great as all that is the star pointage is really all because of their BAKED BRIE. Their baked brie is literally a sourdough loaf that's got a hunk of brie, seasonings, garlic, butter, idk whatever and is baked. IT'S HEAVEN WRAPPED IN FOIL AND I COULD LITERALLY EAT THIS FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. Garlic? Cheese? Bread? Oh baby get in my belly. Usually it's a 15 minute wait, last time it was 45 minutes because there were a few groups ahead of us that had ordered like 7 each. So be prepared to wait, and be prepared to unbutton your pants. The only thing this winery has going for it is the Brie bowl. The people that serve wine are rude! Been here twice! First time I expressed my opinion on the Cab Franc. They didn't appreciate that. The second time we were literally yelled at for walking our 15lb dog on a leash into the winery. There are no signs on the front door telling people they are not dog friendly. Terrible wine and even worse customer service. This place should close down and make room for a winery that appreciates its customers! read more
