This business is all about selling overpriced frames, not providing proper eye care. I needed to get my lenses adjusted 3 times, and they still don't work properly. You spend 10 minutes on an eye test, then are pressured by the sales ladies into buying $800 frames. Stay away. read more

I really disliked that they were unwilling to give me my pupillary distance after the eye exam. I know they do this because it makes it harder for individuals to buy more reasonably priced frame and lenses online -- but it's my vision, my eyes, and I paid for the eye exam. Really would recommend anyone who wants to have a wide selection of options consider going somewhere that will give you your pupillary distance. read more

That awful office manager Maria I assume there's a reason she is still employed there probably part of the deal in the business sale. I've experienced her twice and have seen the reviews I left 3 emails to some random email I found on line yet received no reply. There is no transparency on who owns this place. Is it a franchise, corporation,private owner etc.. The only problem I have, with 3 receptionist, but 1 eye doctor, one sits too long, with an appointment. What is the point to have an appointment. One of the receptionist had a little bad attitude. There needs to be at least 2 eye doctors. read more

Had eye exam and got a prescription.Went to Walmart to buy affordable glasses and was told there was no NPI number that should be included.They refused it give me the number.I can only buy glasses from them.I am 72 years old and have gotten plenty of prescriptions and had them filled elsewhere.What a waste of time and money. read more

Jaqueline Joy at Ultimate Spectacle made me wait 45 minutes to get into the see her. I have chronic pain and sitting that long is a painful for me. I went in for reading glasses only. Once I was in, she checked my reading *Very* quickly, in about 30 seconds. No 'is view A or View better', just a quick look at a card of text and that was it. When I took my prescription to get glasses made up elsewhere, the prescription turned out to be completely wrong. Careless. I had to go back in to the office for another 40 minute wait, with my body in pain the entire time. When asking the receptionists why the wait was so long, I was told it was 'normal and to be expected' because 'this is a business.' When asking why the appointments couldn't not be made for the true time the doctor would see me, I was no given no answer. A doctor's office should not be treated as a businesses, but a place to help people to get better. This is not a novelty store. My primary gets me in instantly every time. This is NOT normal. I am a ptsd patient and suffer panic attacks. The incident triggered a huge attack that I have not recovered from hours later. I was offered no comfort for this attack, and the office manager goaded and goaded me, attempting to escalate the situation on purpose and make it worse rather than attempting to deescalate the situation or calm me (someone having a panic attack should have been moved to a private room, given water, and left to calm down). Extremely poor quality workmanship. So called scratch resistance covering is a joke. I've spent hundreds of dollars at this Eyewear shop and did not receive my money's worth. They are rude and incompetent. I had a situation with a retina problem that I knew about. It was being taken care of out of state. I needed an eye exam and made an appointment. I had the exam. I picked out a pair of glasses. They had to be shipped out of state. I had no choice. They charged me $130.00 for shipping. I asked for the new prescription to take with me and they refused to give it to me. I had to order the new glasses first. I received via email the prescription. A year later I went to a different place to get glasses. They said the prescription was invalid I received via email because it wasn't signed by the doctor. I called and they said I had to ask for a signed prescription when I was in the office. THEY NEVER TOLD ME THIS! I LIVE OUT OF STATE. EVENTUALLY AFTER ARGUING WITH THEM I WAS SENT A SIGNED PRESCRIPTION. I looked up the NY law of digital prescriptions online. It's said a patient is to receive by their choice (an email, etc) signed prescription by law when leaving the office. The office said their system was not set up for this. I will NEVER return to this hokey, rude, pushy lace. They don't follow the law. read more

On July 22, 2022, we had eye exams at Ultimate Spectacle in Middletown, New York. We found Dr. Guttman to be very competent and professional. The exam was very thorough and complete. The eye glass frames selection was guided by Maria, a knowledgeable assistant who gave appropriate feedback on the final selection of both regular and dark glasses. Went to the place today as I needed Glasses ! Had to wait a few they were busy ! They were extremely helpful to me They even glued my other glasses so I could wear them temporarily Thought that was awesome ! Would have given this place 5 stars but, due to the fact they try to get you to purchase other things with the glasses I loved the fact that they didn't force you to buy something you didn't want or like ! I like their eye exam procedure and assessment follow up with the Dr. However, following that, you appear to have entered a war zone that uses subtle marketing bait and switch techniques to get you to purchase their overpriced frames. It is rather unfortunate that the "Insurance Approved" frames are the most hideous, cheap looking, worst options ever for someone to choose from. In most instances searching what they have wouldn't guarantee that you get what you like. I wanted a matte black frame, all black frames were glossy with an explanation that they ran out of the matte black frames. So, wait a minute, didn't they realize the current esthetic fashion trends to at least have a balance in options? They don't call you as they said when the glasses are ready! Takes too long! Nonetheless, the location and architectural style and comfort at the store whilst you wait is very pleasant. read more

Very unfriendly staff. Daughters glasses broke and their answer was that they can't be fixed... no option of buying new or similar. When I asked about buying new ones they responded yes you can but insurance isn't converting it. They repeated that several times... I was a patient of Dr Fedder's since I was a child. He built a family practice and I enjoyed going to him. When he retired Ultimate Spectacle took over his location and I continued to go since they had my medical history. The doctors are good, they do a very thorough exam, however when you get to the sales area it is a whole new ball game. The first time I needed glasses the associate was extremely pushy with upgrades anywhere she could. I spent well over what I thought I would be but assumed it was the standard price. I went again and needed a new rx so ended up getting another pair of glasses and new lenses for my old pair, and was treated the same way- pushed into spending more money and almost threatened that was I was buying was subpar. I went once more and will never be returning again. This time I decided I wanted a pair of sunglasses. I tried on almost every pair they had and didn't really like anything, when the sales lady started telling me they looked good on. I decided on a pair and put the order in and left. The moment I left I had instant regret and called to cancel. The sales associate refused to cancel my order even though it had been 30 mins or less since I left. She claimed the lens maker charges them a cancelation fee so the store policy is to not accept cancelations. She talked in circles and refused my request. At one point she told me she could cancel but I would only receive store credit- so what happened to the cancelation fee preventing you from canceling?? A manager called an gave me a small coupon but also refused what I wanted- a simple cancelation and refund. The more I go over the transaction in my head the worse it gets. The sales associate never gave me an invoice, she never went over insurance information with me so I have no idea what was covered, if anything at all. The sunglasses cost me more than my order with glasses plus a new set of lenses. And I find it very hard to believe that the lens manufacturer would have placed a fee on a Saturday morning, especially when the sales associate probably didn't even put my order in until after I asked to cancel it. This place gave me the absolute worst customer experience and I am disgusted. I will never return and advise you not to try them unless you enjoy paying 50% mark up and enjoy being pushed around. Be careful with this place. I paid for my glasses right at the first time visit to $0.00 balance but when I went there to pick up my glasses, they asked me to pay extra for it. They even refused to give me the copy of the original bill (the handwritten one) which I fully paid with my signature. So don't trust this place. Make sure to keep the original invoice and the receipt, and also make sure to bring them with you when you pick up your glasses there. read more

My family and I have been going here for over 15 years. I was totally disappointed with this last visit which made me so upset that we will not be returning. I disliked the fact that I mentioned over & over again that all I wanted were the pair of glasses that are free through our PBA union. Like always they were trying to add on anti-glare, UV, progressive etc, etc, etc. to a free/cheap pair of glasses for extra money. Each add on is VERY expensive. For years I get the free pair but I always ask them for the Rx. I then go to another fancier optical place to purchase my name brand glasses with all the add ons at an affordable price. This time I was taken as a sucker and ended up paying $165 for a cheap pair of glasses because of the add ons which I did not want. Please be aware and do not purchase any frames or add on to any free glasses you get through your union. The only reason that we were going there was because they accepted our PBA insurance and they were close to home. Just make sure to ask them for the Rx and go to another optical place to buy any glasses and add ons that you will be paying for out of pocket. Shop around!!! read more

Dr Fedor was my optometrist for many years in Middletown NY. When he retired Ultimate Spectacles took over and I had hoped I would receive the same level of care I was used to with Dr Fedor...that was not the case! I am a 76 year old widow on a low fixed income which I manage well. When the Optometrist informed me I was ready for cataract surgery l planned to schedule it...However now I will have to wait as I was "encouraged " to replace my glasses or at least use my old frames which is what I did! $357.00 without the coating I was told I should include for another $200! Why wasn't I advised to wait until I had the surgery which would require new glasses! As it ultimately is my fault for listening to the woman who I trusted! As I went to pay my discover card could not be used as there was a "terminal problem " and I couldn't use it...of course there was nothing wrong with my debit card and when I got home the $357.00 was already taken out of my account . I went back the next morning and tried to cancel and just pay for my eye exam..That couldn't be done as there is a "no cancellation policy" which I was not informed of! I went in to get eyeglasses. this was a nightmare. I waited 2 hours to be seen by the eyedoctor. In additon, when it was time to pick out the frames I had to wait another 30 minutes on top of that. This was my only day off from work. It gets better. I was getting the glasses through insurance. I understand it takes about 4 to 5 weeks to get them. When I called my insurance company, I explained to them it has been over 9 weeks for my eye glasses. Ulitmate Spectacle kept giving me the runaround saying it is on order, in transit, we will give you a call when they come in. I wasted time and money with this. When I spoke to my insurance provider, this company had problems another patient in the past. It was billed to the wrong company in Westchester ny at first. Ultimate Spectacle is now aware and trying to resolve the issue. I would not recommend anyone to use them in the future because of this reason. the customer service is horrible and this is no way to treat a customer. If I paid cash, I would of had them sooner. My suggestion use another company that takes your eye glass insurance. NOT THEM. BE AWARE!!!! read more

My hubs & I went 12/23 for exams & paid a combined $1800 for new glasses. Needless to say, I STILL don't have glasses I can use. And now they want to charge me another $50 to have another recheck. (This makes 3 rechecks) we went last Sat , finally my husband's were ok. I was told to look thru the bottom of my glasses like I don't know how to wear glasses that I've been wearing over 10 yrs. We were told numerous times that we "had tk get used to them" NEVER have I ever picked up new glasses & had to get used to them. They were slightly argumentative when we told them we couldn't see using the glasses. I spoke to someone earlier this week telling them I couldn't see after trying to get used to them. They called me & told me insurance would cover the recheck then called me today & told me they won't. I should not have to pay for a product I've already paid for, that they have failed to provide a properly working product. They are the professionals right? This is the worst place I have ever been to in my life. Ultimate "spectical" is what it is! The people in the office are rude, give wrong information, whisper behind the counter about you and then smile in your face. You ask if you're covered by your specific insurance and they will tell you they accept your insurance and then after you're done seeing the doctor they tell you they don't accept your insurance and then they expect you to pay. Demand you take the contacts out of your eyes that you were fitted for after they run your insurance and realize you're not covered and you're not able to pay. Any respectable place runs yours insurance first before you see a doctor and any respectable place admits when they're wrong and makes it right ! This place did not do that in any way. DO NOT GO HERE. You will Regret it! You are better off going to one of the eye glass places in the mall even if you have to wait a little longer. This place is not worth it. read more
