On 03/24/2015 ( 4 days ago), I wrote a review regarding The Newburgh Mall Sterling Optical outlet, complaining their retail end left me with unstable lenses in my frames. Since then, Heather of Sterling Optical notified me she had the bushings needed to fix my eyeglasses. She personally took the trouble to get the bushings from another Sterling Optical outlet. She arranged a time for me to meet with a technician named Robert who politely repaired my glasses, putting them in perfect order. All is now well. Newburgh Sterling Optical rocks ! read more

Had an eye exam and was told the glasses I ordered would be in "in a week to a week and a half". That was November 25th. Had to call multiple times, only to be told to "give it another week or so". Finally got the glasses on January 8th. I didn't have them a full 12 hours, AND THE LENS FALLS OUT. They weren't dropped. I wasn't cleaning them. I was literally just sitting reading and the lens popped out and dropped into my lap. Zero communication, ridiculous wait time, and a totally substandard product. Never again. I will discourage anyone I know from wasting their time and money at this business. read more

this place used to be our go to, but has compl gone down hill. management is horrible and the policies they've invoked make them difficult to work with. wouldn't tell me insurance eligibility over the phone/check it so was forced to make an apt, went through the whole thing, then they tell me my daughter isn't eligible yet. one week I called to get my prescription and got it, called back another time to get my daughters and they won't give it over the phone. waited for 20 mins in the office for the print out. they're still holding contacts hostage until they can bill insurance. absolute disaster. read more

Went here twice, both times the individual who did our exam was very curt. First visit, I asked a simple question about whether or not I could have my prescription filled with contacts, it was as if I asked a ridiculous question and it was answered as such. Second visit, my wife asked for the prescription while she was being pressured to purchase frames in-store. My wife had to demand the script. The two star rating was because when we went the wait for the exams were short. Otherwise it would've been one star. read more

I was a long time customer, over ten years. I went to get my eyes examined and get a new pair of glasses. The service was horrible. The glasses were not measured properly and gave a style from my eyelashes rubbing against the lenses. I took the prescription to another optometrist to get glasses that fit properly. I now have to get my eyes examined again, because the prescription was wrong. I paid $400 for frames that I can't use. I will never be back. The customer service was horrible. While Dr. Frielich was very personable and seemed to be very knowledgeable, I did not appreciate being charged for an eye examination after a number of other optometrist informed me that my insurance covered my exam 100% and I should not have been charged. Only after getting taken for a ride did I learn I am not the only person to have this experience . read more

I cant recommend this store, the staff is very friendly however thats about it. Went for an eye exam , Dr said just minor change in prescription, it was up to me ,however my frames are bent so needed new frames and lenses. Not much help picking out new frames. So spent 1,000$ on frames and lenses, classes arrive after a week, which is fine, i pick up glasses , staff hands them to me no fitting ,adjusting, i say things aren't clear im told there new it takes a few days for eyes to adjust ( minor change ) . I wear them a few days no better vision, return to store to measure how frame rests on nose , reorder second pair on lenses, after 10days try these , still not much better, wear them a few days , return again , lady takes frames and makes some adjustments distance is better but cant read up close so ,order another pair of lenses, about 10 days , 3rd pair of lenses come in , i immediately say i cant see the exit sign clearly, again told well wear them a few days, 2 days later return to store with frames barely on nose so that i see another adjustment made. Still not comfortable with these. Worst experience in 40yrs of wearing glasses. read more

Horrible business. Not intended for a professional worker that commutes to NYC but local people with some sort of benefits. The place is a zoo! Does not honor insurance polices accordingly. Had the absolute audacity to tell me we don't have your prescription for replacement contacts but you can use these for now. What is that? With the horrible vision I have. This is equivalent to a doctor saying we don't have this prescription for this ailment, but take this. How dumb! Stopped going to this showplace of horrors and go in NYC where doctors and staff know what they are doing. To your response, Interesting....No thank you! I wouldn't come back to this establishment if you paid me a fee and gave me a lifetime certificate for eyeglasses and contacts. I have found a exemplary "Ophthalmologist" that cost me $1,000 a visit in NYC. I have no problem paying out of network. I'd rather pay out of pocket knowing I have received the proper eye care with knowledgeable staff. By the way, as this was also a business I frequently came to, I had to find the replacements quickly and went to BJ's in Nanuet. They were not at all surprised to hear this and stated " They weren't interested in keeping you as a customer". You only are now, because of the review that exposes this business for what its practices are. The best to you and anyone that utilizes your services. T.T. is a nickname. Had such a great experience!!!!! As soon as I walked in the door I was greeted by Lauren who is super helpful. Right away she pulled out 5 to 10 frames and all fit my face nicely. She also brought to my attention that I was able to get a certain amount of money off through my insurance which I didn't even realize. She was able to explain all the differences between all the different lenses that were offered and was just as knowledgeable as she was helpful. I will definitely be back for another pair read more

I have been a customer of this business for about 15 years. I will no longer go there. I have experienced a variety of problems this time. The glasses,that I paid $400 for, were Not measured to fit my face. The frames seem cheep although they Are Ray ban brand. My eyelashes rub against the lenses so they are always hard to see through. I know this because I went to another optician to get glasses that I can actually wear.Very little care was given to my glasses or the fact that I need them for work. I went back there and the employee there said that they would replace my lenses that were scratch a week after I bout them, Im guessing that because I wasn't given a case to put them in. Ive been back there about six times for a variety of reasons. Since Covid the nice doctor that owns the place is no longer there. His business is not being run properly in my opinion. read more

I came into sterling optical a few days ago for an appointment. As soon as I walked in I was greeting with a warm hello. Everyone seemed so happy to see me! Marlena helped me get seated at the first available desk with my new paperwork because I've never been here before. I totally forgot who I had insurance through but after a few minutes she was able to find it. The doctor was great, everything was completely sanitized before and after I sat down. Marlena was able to help me pick the perfect one out. The last place I went to sold me a pair that didn't go behind my ears enough and kept falling off. Marlena mad sure the frames properly fit me so I could see out of my progressive lenses. What a great experience I had here! I will be returning with my husband for his appointment in August!!!!! read more

So, I went to Sterling Optical to get an eye exam and a brand new pair of glasses. I filled out some papers and they took me in to get an exam right away. The eye exam itself was pretty great. Quick and easy just how it should be. Then came the time to pick out my frames. Every frame is inside a glass case so every time you want to try on a different pair of glasses you have to alert a worker to get them out for you. So, I went through many different frames and finally picked out a pair. They said that I should be able to come back in about a week to pick up my new pair of glasses. So I waited a week, no luck. I waited two weeks, still no glasses. I even called Sterling to see what was going on. They said they were still waiting on my lenses. Not two infuriated I waited yet another week. The lenses still not had come in. I was flaming angry at this point and I was almost not willing to wait another week, but I did. And finally after a full month my glasses finally were ready. So I went to Sterling to go pick them up. I drove back home with my new glasses. When I was home I looked at my glasses and you won't believe this. There was a chip in the frame. Now I was ready to sue (not really). I went back to Sterling and told them I need anew frame. They said okay and I had to wait another week. I went back and finally obtained my glasses. Went back home and noticed... They are BLUE! When I picked them out they were not blue. They were mostly gray with blue earpieces. So, here I am now writing a review. Do not go to Sterling Optical. Go to the Walmart Vision Center which is a few minutes away from Sterling. Trust me. read more

The one star is for Dr friedlich and him only. Hes great. So friendly and experienced I wish I didnt have to leave. The problem is the front staff. They must be on commission because they act like a bunch of thieves. My first experience here the manager(Thin blonde lady) fought me tooth and nail when it came to just giving me my Rx so I could order from 1800-contacts. Her initial price was 500$ for 4 boxes of biofinity contacts ...insane...so I left but not before actually having to tell her she cannot LEGALLY withhold my Rx from me, she finally handed it over. I should have never come back but I really liked Dr Friedlich so I came back last year. When they asked me if I would be buying I said no because thier prices are insane. They said they price match and went from 500$ to 112$( imagine that disgusting profit they where trying to STEAL from me) I said ok because they said I could leave with them the same day and they would price match 1800-contacts. When my order was rung up the price was 118$ instead of 112$ price match. I asked why and was given some BS about some unnecessary fees these companys always charge. I still went with it because 6$ wasnt that bad because I was still getting the contacts that day. After my card was charged they told me come back in 2 weeks as my contacts had to be ordered... I lost my mind because they blatantly lied to me 30 seconds earlier. I insisted they refund my card until the manager came out and gave me 4 free pairs on the spot. BUT LIVE AND LEARN..NEVER AGAIN WITH STERLING OPTICAL. This year I didnt go back and although I miss Dr friedlich i went over to walmart and saw thier doctor. After I was done there was no pressure. No crap. No sales BS they just handed me my Rx so I could make my own decisions and order from 1800-contacts. I have purchased several pairs of glasses here over the years and never had any issues. Based on this, I referred to my mother to them for her glasses. My mother purchased her glasses here and spent over $600 on them. Within less than a year, the lenses began to bubble. Since she has since moved to Texas, she took them to Target Optical, Walmart optical and to an optometrist to look over the glasses and see if there was a way to fix them. All 3 deemed the lenses defective. Sterling Optical, however has deemed the lenses as not defective upon mailing them out to them. The manager actually stated that it looked like they had been chewed by an animal. Funny, because the lenses have RAISED bubbles. Chewing would cause indents in the lenses, so this makes no sense. The manager commented that she has had the same lenses for years with no issues...well, hello, yours must not be defective. My mother decided to pay the $299. To replace the lenses, since the Sterling Optical manager would not admit the lenses are in fact defective and this was her "discounted" price to replace the lenses which she said would normally cost $499. (Not for frames, just the lenses) Then, when asked for the lenses manufacturer info, figuring that we would take it up with them, she mentions that we probably want the manufacturer of the lenses coating and not the lenses, since the coating is where the problem is. Umm, so you agree with where the problem is? Apparently, we will now be reaching out to the manufacturer, since Sterling Optical is more concerned with making additional money off of defective lenses than doing right by the customer. Clearly, we did not make the lenses bubble up...especially when more bubbles appeared when my mother had them in her glasses case and had not even been wearing them. Out of 4 different professionals, they are the only ones to deem these lenses as not defective. Shame on their business practices and customer service. read more

The Doctor, Dr. Freilich is the best. Nicest guy you could meet, fixed a bad prescription a different doctor gave me. Can't say enough about him. On the other hand, the retail portion of the business is the biggest rip off going. I usually pay for my contacts out of pocket but this year I decided to use my vision insurance. They jacked up the price so much that after the insurance company paid, I STILL paid more than I normally did out of pocket! So, have the good doctor check out your eyes, then take your prescription to 1-800-Contacts. read more

I just want to say they have the best customer service ever! I have been to many different places from my contacts and eyeglasses, but just to let you know no one's ever got my prescription right except for Sterling optical. I had ran very low on my contacts and just realized it 3 days before I was leaving on vacation. The associate was so nice and understanding that they actually place the order for overnight for me for only eight dollars charge! Now that is what you call great customer service. I recommend everybody goes them whether it be for eyeglasses or contacts. I'm even going to have my twins come in to do a new Eye exam and each a pair of glasses through them. I highly recommend them to everybody and anybody who is looking for a great customer service, great value, courteous, and I love the fact that they don't over try to sell you anything you do not need. Unlike other places you do not have to sit there screaming through to try to find coupons, because their values are very reasonable! read more
