After shopping high and low…read morefor a perfect cake with an affordable price for my wedding, I was referred to Amy and her fabulous delectable cakes. There are LOTS of cake places in the Indy area that CLAIM to have the best tasting cakes, and having been in about 27 flippin' weddings myself, I have tasted a lot of these so called "best cakes". Well, none of them lived up to Amy's cake, which was moist, gorgeous and even wonderful a YEAR later on my 1st anniversary. Might I also mention that she charges UNDER $2.00 a slice. This might make her SOUND cheap and therefore, might make you think that there are BETTER cakes out there b/c they are more expensive, but I beg to differ. The likes of other cakeries don't have have anything on Amy and her slices of heaven. First off, I ask her to do a chocolate drizzle on my cake. She had never done this but promised she would make it work. For months leading up to my event she would call to let me know she was "practicing". She also had other brides and grooms taste test MY cake to make sure it was progressing. Not only was my cake GREAT tasting but it was BEAUTIFUL!! I cannot say ENOUGH about this wonderful concoction that was my wedding cake. It was three layers of double chocolate and two layers of almond vanilla with white chocolate icing and dark chocolate drizzle. My (crappy florist) tossed in some pretty pink roses and we WON and award from "Real People Magazine" for Indiana's BEST cake!! For a whopping $320 total for a cake that served nearly 200 people, I could NOT have been happier. She even came the day of, cut my cake for me and put it together. It looked fantastic, tasted fantastic, was affordable and I could not have been a happier bride. I have since used her for birthday cakes, shower cakes and desserts of every sort!! Brides, do not choose those OTHER cake shops that constantly CLAIM to have the best cakes. Take yourself to small town Indiana and have a slice of heaven instead! You'll thank me later!

My experience may be because I was part of a large group of ladies, the service was slow but friendly. It also seemed a bit chaotic. Everyone complained of the parking as well but I did not have that issue as I always get to where I am going early and I found it easy to park in the extra lot behind the building. Apparently there is a place across the street from the building where you can also park. We were there at 1pm so lunch was on the agenda. I decided to forgo a regular meal and just get the cake flight, after all they are a bakery and I should try their best! I ordered a regular iced tea (no sugar) to go along with my cake. The cake flight I chose was the C.J.'s Vanilla Almond Buttercream (Wedding Cake), Dorothy Blevin's Cake, and the Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Buttercream. It was a good choice for lunch although if I go back I will just get the cake that I really liked out of the 3. Maybe next time also I will try the chicken salad croissant and the chicken velvet soup. I think my experience will be better next time outside of a big group. My favorite cake of the 3 was the Dorothy Blevin's Cake as it was unique with a denser texture than the others and it had pecans, pineapple, and a caramel topping. I thought the almond cake was a bit cloyingly sweet and the almond tasted pretty artificial, the chocolate was not chocolate enough for me if that makes sense. Maybe needed to be a little darker chocolate and richer but if you are looking for something lighter that may be your thing. Overall I will go back and try this bakery/cafe again and hopefully will have a better experience and I will order a full lunch next time.

If you place an on-line order by Wednesday, Rustic Crust provides "Free Delivery" to your home that Friday. (Free delivery to Hamilton County, IN). So far, I've sampled the White Parmesan, Light Rye, and Jalapeno Sharp Cheddar Sourdoughs. We have also ordered the Brazilian Cheese Bread (the wife's favorite). My favorite, so far, is the Parmesan Sourdough, although, I must say, the Sharp Cheddar Jalapeno is amazing. (Pic below). I especially love the crisp golden crust of these sourdoughs. This Friday, I am looking forward to my first loaf of White Olive Sourdough. Rustic Crust / Luv Bakery creates their products with high-quality and natural ingredients. You can taste the love and freshness in each bite. I've sampled many sourdoughs during my travels across the United States, and I'd definitely rank Rustic Crust / Luv Bakery in the "top tier" for authenticity, taste, freshness, and quality. I highly recommend Rustic Crust / Luv Bakery. Give this place a try.

I ordered a loaf of bread for pick-up a few days in advance and it was a very easy process. I hadn't heard of this spot or even been to that part of town before and found it to be a super charming cafe with a ton of yummy looking pastries! Situated in an older house, parking is limited and this seems to be a go-to spot on the weekends. They also have a variety of coffee - I had plans to try another spot but I want to go back! Especially for their cinnamon rolls. Those looked mouth watering. My bread is so good - I have been eating on it all week and it's delicious toasted for breakfast. Everyone was super nice and gave me a tip that if you're picking up, you can ask someone in the kitchen to grab your pre-order for you.

The space itself is what appears to be an old schoolhouse, and it's incredibly warm and welcoming inside. There's a great mix of seating on the first floor, including community seating near a fireplace, smaller tables, and larger tables for groups. I noticed there's also an upstairs area that I didn't explore, but even just the main level felt homey and comfortable. It's definitely a spot I'd come back to for getting out of the house to work, bringing a laptop, or even meeting friends for a casual coffee date. The vibe is very cozy and inviting, and the staff was friendly and kind. The menu is thoughtfully curated, not overwhelming, but still offers a nice variety of syrups and flavors. My only small wish is that there were more loose-leaf tea options beyond black and green tea, but that didn't take away from the experience. Overall, this was a fantastic visit and a café I'd happily return to.

And at least for the holiday season, the interior looks incredibly cozy and inviting. If you have nowhere to go for a few hours, it would be a nice place to hang out and chat with friends. Maybe it was quicker in the drive thru, but then you'd miss out on the decorations. As I was leaving, I surmised it's both. Came in for the doughnuts, left with looking at my calendar and figuring out when I'll be back. Let's start with the doughnuts- shareable if you're willing. I pretended to be willing, but let's face it, we all know better. Picked up a cake doughnut (didn't make it home- damn, SO GOOD.) Light, not overly sweet, and perfect slight crisp on edges.) Had to get a plain 'ol yeast doughnut, you know, just to compare.... it's up there with the best. Cinnamon roll- that one I DID share. Had to. It's huge! Delightful dough, perfect hint of cinnamon & sugar. Could totally plate these for guests at home and they'd think I baked them myself. Wait, if someone's staying at my house the probably know I'm not a baker (too many rules) and will call me on my bluff. :) AND- the maple bacon doughnut. You had me at bacon. Just order it and say "thank you." Couldn't pass up an order of biscuits and gravy. Holy smokes, folks, sausage gravy LOADED with sausage! Seriously- I'm a bit of a B & G specialist (if I say so myself) and this one... THIS ONE is a keeper. Perfect (by perfect, I mean a LOT) amount of sausage, a hint of peppery spice, and that biscuit. SO FLUFFY! Huh- is that where they got their name? I've added a few pictures of their menu, the breakfast and lunch sandwiches look delish. I asked about them ingredients & they mentioned they use Boar Heads meats. I'll be hitting it up for my next northside breakfast or lunch meetings. I loved the bustle of Fluff. Customers seemed to know each other and were very quick to offer up their praises as well. It was difficult to decided what to order, because the customers kept saying "get 1 of everything!" Congrats to Fluff- great town bakery. Felt a little bit like walking into Cheers. Enjoy!
