It was a beautiful Sunday so we sat at the patio, surprisingly, it's not chill at all. Our server, Stephanie, was very friendly and always had this sweet smile on her :) the food was surprisingly good too!! I wasn't expecting this quality of food at tourism place. The bison was taste unique to me and probably the best bison I had so far; paella was better than most places I tried; the chicken sandwich is quite special too and I really like their thin fries (tho I think a bit salty...) I have eaten here several times and the food and service has always been excellent. That being said we decided to celebrate with an early New Years Eve dinner and it was not up to expectations. They had a few dinner specials and I decided to veer off of their tried and true entres. They had a specialy prime rib dinner and I love prime rib. Unfortunately it was terrible. Tough and unlike any prime rib I have had before. Maybe it was the Donia Farms grass fed beef? But for $60 I expected much better. I sent it back and was served a Strip loin which was $40. It was okay. Wife's paella was excellent as was the caesar salad and desert. One further point. We ordered a bottle of wine. I understand there is a huge markup on bottles of wine in restaurants and I accept that. But a quick check of bottle we ordered showed it was $23 in liquor store. They were charging $60!!! To me that is just gouging the customer. I wish restaurants here would follow Quebec and Ontario and allow reasonal corkage fees when you bring your own wine. Soooo....stick to their standard fair and don't order wine and you will have a great meal!!! read more

Very unpleasant dining experience, overpriced mediocre tasting food, rude staff, watered down drinks. I made reservations one month in advance for my boyfriend's birthday, at 6pm on Saturday. We arrived on time and one of the servers told us that "our table wasn't ready" and told us to sit in the so called "heated patio". The patio was barely heated, I was shivering and they did nothing to check up on us. They just asked us if we wanted to order drinks. We ordered 2 drinks. My cocktail, the painkiller, tasted very watered down and it was falsely advertised as having 2.5 oz of spirits, however , it tastes more like watered down juice. I was unable to taste any hint of alcohol, and for $14 , I was expecting much more. I then asked the server about our table. Our server, the blonde woman, told us that " the reservations before you came in late and so your table isn't ready", in a very condescending tone with an annoyed facial expression. She made it seem like it was my fault that the table was late for their reservations. She then told us that if we ordered the appetizer, that it would "be on us". Fine . Then we waited  another 30 mins, in the freezing cold and our server finally brought us to our table. We were seated and we ordered our entrees. The male server (the younger one), delivered our meals and he asked me if "there was anything else I that I needed?". I told him just some more napkins please. He never brought it over. Surprise, surprise ! We were ignored the whole night and we even had to flag down our waitress for the bill. All the servers were inattentive, except for the water person, who did a good job topping off our water. All the other staff made us feel like we were unwanted there. Our server and the man who sat us outside were unwelcoming, unfriendly and distant . When I paid, our server asked if I was going to use card, I said yes. I paid for my bill using my debit card, but the waitress was standing right beside me, while I was punching in my numbers the whole entire time,  which I thought was both strange and rude, and it felt like she was invading my privacy. My forester schnitzel was a huge portion, but it was virtually tasteless and chewy, it was not tender at all. The pork needed more salt and something acidic. The mashed potatoes was although creamy, was very bland tasting. The best part of the dish was the red cabbage.  I was expecting more, since they have been in business for more than 30 years along the white rock strip. I understand that restaurants now have to take extra time and precautions to clean and sanitize, which I totally understand and I am fine about, but to wait for 30 mins for a confirmed reservation is ridiculous. The food and drinks were overpriced and mediocre tasting. Servers were inattentive and rude. There are far better restaurants out there. So much for supporting local.  Avoid this place! read more

One of my favourite places to eat whenever I'm in the area. I always meet one of my favourite clients here for lunch, and the food has always been top notch. Never fail to order the Oysters Rockefeller, which has always been delicious and filling. Highly recommend stopping in. read more

My husband and I celebrated a friends birthday here. Appetizers were very expensive and had majority seafood options. Some more variety would have been nice. I ended up ordering the pork belly. The pork was juicy and tender but the sauce served was apple Demi glacé and was sickly sweet. So I ate plain pork with no sauce. The risotto cake was very bland and didn't taste very good. And the slaw was also very bland, but helped give the pork some flavour. I do t think the service was very good. I had ordered a coke and had to ask for a refill that took 15min to get. My friend WAS ASKED if he wanted a wine refill and they brought that immediately. Considering we drove out from maple ridge, and the overpriced bland food. We won't be returning. read more

My burger (ordered medium rare) came out on the pretty rare side, but still very tasty. The service was good, but nothing to right home about. On a day where the sun is out, what is better than dining outside? Can I first say that I had no idea that Uli's was a German restaurant...let alone what a Schnitzel was? The shame, but not really. I was in town, and introduced to this little spot that is just the right size. For sun filled days, it's almost sacriligious to waste it by sitting inside. Sack-re-LIDGE. With a small set of wooden benches lining the street and the bay we opted to enjoy the warm breeze and fading sun and dine. But had it been cold, I would have been more than excited to dine inside in the very small and quaint dining space. It's comfortably-perfect. It's great for a small group of two or a larger bunch enjoying a pint and some fresh grub. To start, we ordered the baked brie that comes wrapped up in phyllo and accompanied by roasted garlic and blueberries. I was a little put off by the blueberries, but combining all three ingredios-it's a trifecta of deliciousness for your tastebuds. For the entree, they were out of steak so both myself and the dining cohort ordered the fresh halibut. It was served on a bed of seasoned quinua and fresh wedges of tomatoes. The fish was well proportioned and very filling, the best part for flavoring came from the Orange vinaigrette salad that was on the side. The flavor and scent was off the charts. Feeling full, but well enough for a dessert we tried the sticky toffee pudding. A little on the dry side, but combined with the caramel syrup and little biddy of ice cream, the dish was fine. What started as a stop to sip sangria (they have white and red) has become a local stomping...er...chomping ground and I'm happy that I was introduced to Uli's. read more

Welp. I've been here twice, and twice just doesn't seem enough. So far, my journeys out to White Rock to devour Uli's menu have been fraught with pay parking and long highways but all strife is forgotten when sitting down at Uli's (and by remembering that your friends were the ones who drove so shut up and stop complaining). The schnitzel Neptune is delightful. Can you get much better than fried meat covered in hollandaise and shrimp? I think not. It was perfect in every way, and I would eat it a thousand times more before I became sick of it. I've also tried the steak frites. Their demi glaze must be a secret potion of peace and love because it could bring the world to its knees in harmony, I'm pretty sure of this. The calamari is great, but I'm a girl that likes my calamari served with the terrifying little squid tentacles that make me feel like an evil overlord, devouring a nation of innocent baby squids. Hands down the best place in White Rock for dinner with friends. I have eaten here a lot... more than I would like to admit; I am afraid at this point I have forgotten how to cook. This is truly one of those places you can go and order anything off the menu and be thrilled with what is set in front of you. I have even gone so far as to order a veggie burger and it was delicious (try it with bacon). The menu is constantly changing depending on the season and the weekend dinner specials are creative and different from anything else you will be able to find outside of the city (24oz rib eye and Sous Vide Rack of Lamb). Everything is always fresh, locally sourced and absolutely delicious. If you like cocktails this is the place for you. As with the dinner menu the cocktail list and beer selection also changes seasonally... who does that??? Lots of interesting local and not-so local options and a great reasonably priced wine list. The staff here are amazing. I have been here by myself, with my wife, in small groups and in groups as large as 20 people and every time the service has been exceptional. Everyone is always very knowledgeable about the menu and so friendly. read more

Looked like a good spot and sounding authentically German I figured the schnitzel would be good, which is a rare find in Vancouver. While I got the schnitzel my guy got the fish and chips which was actually a winner. My choice however came out incredibly tough and burnt around the edges. Very disappointing, although the waitress did take it back and replace it with something better, she informed me that that's how they do them here and asked if I'd ever had one before... Well yes, in the land of their origin! But an absolutely unnecessary comment on her behalf. Very very disappointed. Service was slow, water wasn't refilled unless asked multiple times which is bad on a hot day and ambiance, a bit rough. Perhaps it's had better days, but I won't be back. read more

Ulli's is a nice spot. The food is a bit pricier than the fish and chips places, but the selection is solid. The last time we were there, the waitress didn't know a wine pairing from a Red Bull, but it is hard to find good help these days. They have very few selections for kids, but my 5 year old eats a man sized burger without a crumb left, so that worked out. Apparently their paella is out of this world, but that was the view of a guest of mine so that is a second hand review. A boufee delirante brought me to the doors of this bottomlessly awful restaurant, chock-a-bloc with demi-mondes, and flaneurs, and the experience is still haunting me to this day. My usual haunt was closed for the evening, so my partner and I were hard-pressed for alternatives along the strip. One can assess the quality of the food by assessing the quality of the diners, and it is my habit to employ the three B rule before committing myself to some potential gastronomic nightmare: Bellowing, Baseball caps, Black. Bellowing: If the cumulative effect of all the conversations taking place in a restaurant is reminiscent of the noise produced by a military supersonic aircraft's afterburner in full thrust, then one needs to exit the restaurant immediately, as the food is obviously not good enough to disrupt the flow of the diner's discussions. Baseball Cap: If the restaurant is clogged and sticky with baseball cap wearing vulgarians. Black: If you step into a what seems like a gathering of Johnny Cash impersonators, with everyone clad from head-to-toe in black. If you're wearing black, you cannot be trusted to have a discerning temperament regarding anything of merit. Stepping into the restaurant, I was overwhelmed by wall of noise coming from a sea of darkly-clad, baseball-cap-wearing diners. A wall of noise and smoke, as the kitchen's extractor fan was evidently not working. Hope springs eternal in the human breast, and despite nothing going in its favour, I decided to hazard it all on a toss of the die. Sadly, it was a case of snake eyes. I ordered the Baked Brie as a starter, and I found the paring of cheese, garlic and blueberry compote to be ponderously infantile, and comically hallucinogenic in origin. I ordered the Chorizo and Clam Vongole, and my partner had the Confit de Canard. Sounds spectacularly continental, and endlessly sumptuous; however, my Chorizo Vongle was so inexpertly prepared, and comically mistitled that I was offended by this plate of overpriced stodge that was deposited in front of me. Prepared and deposited on my plate with all the grace and expertise of a cow evacuating its bowels, and received identically. The Confit filled my partner with inertia. The only high point in the evening was our server who was a consummate professional, and I was happy to leave her with a very substantial tip. Sadly, my partner and I had decided to dress for our evening out, and we were both obliged to visit a dry cleaner the following day to get the kitchen stench out of our clothing. My ears are still ringing after being subjected to two tables loaded with screeching harridans. As an eating experience, the memory works as an emetic. read more

We chose this place due to mostly decent reviews. We weren't disappointed either, so were happy with our selection. I had the gnocchi with wild mushrooms which was just amazing. Must have been homemade, pasta and all. My partner had the steak and it was pretty good and came cooked as requested (medium). There were about a million fries/chips though. These could be cut back. Drinks were okay, but the cocktail menu was kind of blah. I am not into whiskey, bourbon, or gin but these were all common ingredients. I ended up with the red sangria. The place is a little pricey. This review is a long time coming! I have been coming to this this restaurant almost every Other Saturday for the past 2 years! Their brunch is absolutely delicious and unlike any other place I've ever been to for breakfast. I always compare places to Ulis because they set the bar very high. I always order Eggs Benedict with pesto and cheddar. It comes with a light tasty salad and homemade ketchup for the roasted potatoes!! It's so damn delicious guys, check them out! This is the restaurant I went to last summer and I had terrible experience there. I was busy and forgot to comment about it until now during this pandemic. I had high expectations before I visited since it is rated so high on yelp. Since I like seafood, I ordered the paella. To be honest, it was very good until the moment I found a giant live ant hidden inside the rice and running on my food. My appetite was ruined entirely, and I immediately called the waitress(she looked like a manager). All I wanted to do was notifying them that this is really disgusting. I thought they would apologize even if they didn't replace the food for me. However, her altitude was so bad and very mean. Not only did she not apologize, she even used her finger to directly touch my food on my plate to take the ant out. And NO SINGLE WORD OF SORRY. What she said I still remember-" here you go, now no ant." This is totally unacceptable. Not just for the food safety, but her terrible altitude. I can't believe this is how they treated customers. I told all my friends to never go to this restaurant and I will never go as well. read more

Late review. Went here in late August with the weather still nice and what better place to sit on the patio facing the water and the warm summer weather than White Rock on Marine Dr. We had a good seat because we could see all the nice muscle cars and sports cars and classic cars driving by good thing to get distracted at in between conversation. To start I have to say all the food that was ordered was so fresh things were moist that's what she said and nothing was dry. We had the Calamari to start which was probably top 3 if not top I've tasted. It wasn't greasy and slimy like some places I've tried. On the side, was a chipotle yogurt dip that had enough kick and complimented well with it. Next, for entree I had the Chorizo and Clam Vongole which is a pasta dish with Manila clams, Beast & Brine chorizo I don't know what that means, garlic, chili and fresh parsley. I did not expect to be that many clams in it! This place did not cheap out like others which I'm used to. There must have been at least 20 clams on that bad boy. I enjoyed my plate on that fact alone that they didn't cheap out. Opposite to me she ordered the Veggie Burger. I hate veggie burgers. I've tasted on 4 separate occasions before this veggie burger and each time I ate dry cardboard. I was skeptical but I had a bite and I don't know what the hell happened in my mouth but I liked it. It didn't even taste like a veggie burger at all this might sound weird but it's my review so I can write whatever I want it tasted like a fish burger to me so moist and juicy it didn't have any trace of cardboard in it at all. This changed my impression on Veggie Burger this restaurant and so it deserves 5 stars. Location is awesome on the warm sunny day with a cold glass of beer people watching car driving water waving good conversation. Quality of food thumbs up. Room for improvement sometimes I didn't know where the staff was so had to wait at times. read more

Tried this restaurant for the first time last night and I have to say I was more than impressed! I love the patio even though it was too cold to sit on it they still had their heaters going it's right off the ocean! As we sat inside the server came let us know the specials which it was burger night! Cool place smelled so good! I could not stop looking at the lighting and all the fixtures it was actually captivating it was like a unique rustic old-school vibe I just loved it! I ended up ordering the crabcakes and grilled Caesar salad! Both were so delicious! I never had a grilled Caesar salad before so I was curious to see what was going to come to me and let me tell you if I didn't turn into a crabcake I definitely turned into a Caesar salad! Tried Uli's paella , has a lot of seafood,...ok. You have to try the LA Chouffe (Duvell subsidiary) Belgian beer,and I also liked the Four Winds IPA with the paella. The service was very good... we shared a charcuterie platter, and then got some mains... I had schnitzel (hadn't had schnitzel for a long long time), had to get a fix in... it was good. My friend had her birthday party here (around 12 of us). The service was wonderful and prompt. Our server knew her wine and all the ingredients in any of the dishes (this is impressive, since I usually hear "Let me go ask the kitchen..") Beefs: Charging $3 extra for bacon to be placed on a smoked chicken cobb salad. Totally not cool. Bacon is not an option in a cobb salad last I checked :) Expensive menu (too expensive for what I would normally pay). Goods: The cobb salad was yummy, but was missing the bacon. Water glasses were always filled. Wine was always in your glass. I would definitely eat here again, but I'll order an entree for the same price I could have had bacon on my salad ;) read more

I want to name my first-born after this place. Okay, maybe not my first-born, but possibly a middle name for my next fur baby? Either way, Uli's is where it's at. We came here the day after my wedding and what a treat it was! Since the weather was perfect, we sat outside on the patio. On a Sunday during brunch, a 20 second wait was pretty surprising. Granted, my "brunch" time is at 1pm, but it's before dinner so it's brunch okay?! Our server was mega cute, kinda wanted to take her home in my pocket. She was really sweet, super knowledgable of the menu, and suggested really great things. I was just a teensy bit hungover, so I wasn't ready for a hearty meal yet, so I only ordered two appetizers- Crab cakes ($19) and steamed mussels ($19). Let's talk about those crab cakes. No seriously, let's talk about those f-ing crab cakes. Crunchy on the outside, moist and warm on the inside. Not overly drenched in sauce, but not making me long for more. The crab was fresh, cooked to perfection in red pepper aioli, and just the right portion size for the price. It's gluten-free, and yes I do have a gluten allergy, so that was a definite plus. Okay now those mussels... Mussels will never be the same. THANKS A LOT (Sorry grandpa). Some were teeny, some were big, but all were equally delicious. The sauce it was in could've used a little less salt, but as long as you give the ones at the bottom a good shimmy and shake before you pop it in, they're delicious. Also gluten-free, and cooked in garlic and white wine. The portion was huge.. More than enough for 4 of us. We had about 5-6 leftover. If I had a ziplock, trust me those things would've come home with me. Ugly move, I know.. But they were just that good. Remember how I said I was a little hungover? Well I ordered a drink anyway because it was Sunday and I think that's what you're supposed to do. I don't remember what the drink was called, but it did have gin, Fentiman's tonic water, and garnished with cucumber. So good! Not too sweet, not too bitter. It was the perfect hangover remedy. I wish I remembered what our servers name was because I seriously would come back just for her. It doesn't get any better than the view of the ocean, amazing food, and top-notch service. Came in for a quick lunch with a friend. Ordered a Boston sour and the linguine vongole. Service was impeccable, sour was delish and the vongole was the best I've had to date. Only complaint is that lunch was a tad pricy ($50 including tip) for a pasta and a bevvie... they could have at least thrown in a piece of bread with the pasta for that price. read more

A very good choice for dinner while in White Rock. They have an excellent selection of wines and beers. Appetizers were amazing. We had the crab cakes, calamari and Oysters Rockefeller. All were good. Our server was friendly, fast, courteous and quite funny at times. They were accommodating to my friend's toddler. Although, I would suggest to leave energetic kids at home as there is not much room to roam around and play. I ordered the paella which I requested to be saucy (I don't like dry paella). It came out with the perfect consistency. It could have used a bit more flavour though, I could hardly taste the tomatoes. My friends had the Montreal Smoked meat (which I will get next time, sooo good). As well, the ravioli which I tasted was fantastic. Great service, expensive but good for special occasions. read more

Sunset-sational! Uli's is an awesome down to earth restaurant on Marine Dr. in the heart of White Rock. While they have a friendly and well-stocked bar and various tables for seating, you will definitely want to sit outside, weather permitting. They have patio heaters which makes the cooler weather bearable. We were on our way to Washington Grill which is another good restaurant, but decided we wanted a "conversation-friendly" place. WG is a bit stuffy and while it too has nice views, they are all from behind glass. Uli's feels like a neighborhood pub however it has great food, and great views on the sun setting over the ocean. The menu is a sort of "gastro-pub" type selection with some nice offerings. We can definitely vouch for the Steak Frites and the Paella....they were both EXCELLENT! The service is friendly and efficient and you are seldom left trying to waive someone down for service. They have one of the best selections of local and international beers and the wait staff is not afraid to make recommendations. For a fun, scenic and delightful dining experience with a great view of the ocean, Uli's should exceed most expectations. read more

Let me start by saying the service here is impeccable. Our server's name was Stephanie and she was outstanding. My family came here for my dads birthday. The restaurant is a bit cramped in my opinion but the view of the pier was nice. I personally loved that when a breeze came through, all you smelled was the ocean. The food is a little pricey for what you get. I got the chicken and brie sandwich and the bartenders lemonade. Both were good but nothing to write home about to be honest. I prefer bold flavors and this didn't cut it. I probably should've picked something else. We also split calamari, and it wasn't really crispy BUT, you got bigger pieces of squid and the dip it was served with was super good. That was definitely delicious. *One tip i'll give is to make sure you ASK how much the daily specials are if there aren't prices.
