Tofu soft serve was super interesting - mainly tasted like sweetened soy milk. For a dollar extra we got to choose another ice cream flavor and went with the ube/jasmine tea swirl. Each flavor is pretty subtle but not bland. The mochi taiyaki was unique and chewy and stuffed with sweet red bean filling close to the tail end. You also get to choose 2 toppings - we went with the crunchy rice pearls and chocolate wafer.
This location is downstairs on the west side of the mall by the bridge staircase. All orders are placed through a kiosk so it was really quick to order and receive our ice cream. I really enjoyed the honeydew soft serve. The ube was good too, but felt like the honeydew was more flavorful and unique. Definitely a nice little treat to have without waiting too long!
This review is only referring the mochi strawberry. Skip this item. It wasn't worth the $4 for ONE strawberry mochi that did not look like the photograph. The ice creams are good. Service is normal. There is no seating, it's only purchase at the doorway on a kiosk.
So yummy!! Their mochi taiyaki was delicious. I really like their ube ice cream as well. It's just really good! Would recommend stopping by when you're in japantown.
Matcha/sesame: Great combo of soft serve to end the night. Nuttiness of the sesame with the bitterness of matcha. Both are not sweet. Ordering is on the kiosk, comes out in less than 5 minutes. Well lit interior space with 2 staff members working. Utensils are self service. Seating is available across from the store.
Suuuuuper booomb! Definitely worth going for a sweet tooth craving or dessert after dinner. You can really taste the matcha and the ube, it's so rich and soft I loved it!

The sesame flavor and matcha flavor were strong and I appreciated that it was not sugary. The one thing I wished was for a hot taiyaki fish. Overall, super creamy ice cream with great flavors.
Walking around Japantown wanting a small sweet treat for dessert and found ourselves at Uji Time! Easy enough, no line and a kiosk to take our order. We chose a scoop of ube in a cup to share. It only took 5 minutes for us to get it. Tables and chairs are along the side, so we had no problem grabbing one to enjoy our ice cream. It was nice, creamy, and not too sweet! Just the way I like it, though the ube flavor could be stronger. Nonetheless, it was good and satisfying. 4/5
Okay I'm a glutton. After a delicious lunch at Sasa Japanese restaurant upstairs, I had to get more ice cream. They had black sesame soft serve ice cream, so I ordered that with a cone, marshmallow crunchies and choco wafers. Ordering was easy, just order through the kiosk, pay by card or apple pay. The black sesame was quite large (thank goodness I shared it), it wasn't too sweet and went well with the choco wafers but unfortunately the marshmallow crunchies weren't too crunchy. I was hoping it was like the lucky charms marshmallows but that's okay. I love Japanese desserts. They're not too sweet and always hit the spot. We got there before the crowd and I'm glad we snagged the last bench to sit on to enjoy our soft serve.
While the selection is more limited than other dessert places in the area, the quality of both of the flavors we tried (Ube and Blueberry) really stood out. The taiyaki was beautifully light and very flavorful and the red bean filling was amazing! Also our order was prepared quickly and we walked around the square while we ate it. I've been wanting to try this place for a while and I am so happy that we finally did. It's definitely going on our roster.
I had been looking forward to coming back here for a while, but this recent visit was a total disappointment. The shop is always packed, but they have completely eliminated customer service by forcing everyone to order through a kiosk. Worse, the soft serve isn't as good as it used to be. The matcha flavor was incredibly weak, and the black sesame was way too grainy, weak and lacked any depth. The biggest issue was a major hygiene and professionalism fail. Despite using order numbers, the employee at the counter ignored them and handed my ice cream to two other customers. When they realized the mistake and said it wasn't theirs, the employee just took the ice cream back and handed it right to me--with zero apology. Passing along food that other people have already handled is completely unhygienic. Japantown has way too many amazing dessert spots to waste your time and money here. I won't be back.
Very good dessert in Japantown. We stopped by today for mochi ice cream and taiyaki soft serve waffle cones (fish-shaped, which our girls loved!). There was only a short line when we got there and ordering via the kiosk was a breeze. We ordered three types of mochi ice cream - the salted caramel and jasmine were very good, the matcha was mediocre. Our girls both ordered sesame flavored taiyaki's and enjoyed them. Total bill was a bit over $25. Service was quick. Happy to return.
Maybe it was the flavors I chose the first or second time I went here but I wasn't too crazy about this place. I've been here about 10x since my last review because the tourists we take to Japantown always want something from here. The soft serve is so good now. The most recent flavor I got was yuzu something and it was smooth, creamy, and had a nice yuzu flavor. The fish cone is pretty good, I enjoy both types the regular fish shaped cone and the mochi version. The mochi version is indeed mochi. I wish they would use an unscented floor cleaner because the smell of the cleaner is really strong and wafts out into the area where people order at the kiosk and wait to pick up their ice cream. It's an unpleasant fragrance to smell while you're waiting or trying to enjoy your food. They've finally added more tables outside the shop where people can hang out and eat their ice cream. They could add even more tables and chairs, and there'd still be plenty of walking space. read more

This soft serve is absolutely delicious! Located right by the parking garage, this spot is a must-try in Japantown. The ube soft serve is so sweet and flavorful. We also loved the takoyaki shell. The soft serve definitely melts pretty quickly and can be messy, so I recommend sitting down to eat and grabbing some napkins. Will definitely be back! read more

The Ube ice cream is super delicious! I love the fact you can customize your ice cream! The ube and thai tea was a perfect mix of two great flavors! They balance each other great! The matcha milkshake is big for its size and it has a strong taste of matcha so if you love matcha I would definitely give it a try! The service is quick as they have a self serve kiosk. The location is great due to it being in Japantown so you can take some nice pics of yourself and your treat! read more
Convenient spot for ice cream or soft serve! The taiyaki itself was a bit of a letdown (was not fresh or crispy or flavorful). I do prefer somisomi's taiyaki cone. The soft serve on the otherhand was great, i enjoyed its slightly icier texture over other soft serve that can be too creamy. The seasonal honey osmanthus flavor was perfect! Their seasonal honey osmanthus icecream right now is a MUST TRY!!! Light, sweet, and super refreshing! I hope it becomes a staple!! Glad to see this spot is still here and there's small tables instead of benches in the common area now. Service is friendly and efficient, despite one man running the store. I tried their new mochi Taiyaki shell- personally wasn't a big fan of it but it's definitely chewy on the inside. It had a bit of a different flavor (more sugary?) from the traditional Taiyaki they serve. read more

I came here after dinner at around 7 pm on a Friday and the line wasn't line at all! We ordered on the iPad and waited for them to call our name. I just got the matcha soft serve and lychee as well (it was their seasonal flavor). The matcha flavor tasted great, i didn't think it was that sweet at all which is perfect, but I didn't feel like it was as creamy as all the other reviews say. The lychee was only okay too ... I felt like the lychee flavor lacked creaminess even more so than the matcha one. I liked that service was fast though, we didn't wait long for our items to be ready. read more
Uji Time Dessert is located on the lower floor of Japan Center West Mall. There is no seating inside, and when I visited, there was a long line to order from the kiosk. After placing an order, customers wait to have their number called. Therefore, there's not much of an ambiance to this place. I got the Taiyaki cone, which includes one flavor, one filling, and two toppings. For an additional dollar, you can get two flavors stacked. I really enjoyed the Nutella filling over red bean, which I opted for as a topping instead--otherwise, it would have been too much red bean. The ube ice cream had a strong purple yam flavor, which some say tastes artificial, but I liked it. It's one of the better ube ice creams I've had. The topping selection is great, with choices like honey, soy bean powder, chocolate wafers, and marshmallows. Orders come out quickly, but finding a place to eat can be tricky. Many people sit on the ledges and benches by the stairway, which gets especially crowded when it rains and people seek shelter. Overall, Uji Time Dessert is a solid spot for ice cream in San Francisco's Japantown, though the lack of seating can be an inconvenience. read more

Always a special treat when I come grocery shopping in Japan town. Today was extra special. I had already ordered and received a soft serve when I saw a little sign that said "We have kinako warabi mochi". I did a little dance but couldn't find it in the app. The manager or person on duty came out of the store and helped me find it. And then my melting ice cream hit my hand. "When will you have it again so I can come back? I already have this." He asked me if I'd like to try it (A sample?! Oh heck yes!) and then ...he brought me this. Likely a full size portion! Not a single piece on a toothpick. So kind! It was melt in your mouth fresh! So, so good. First rate! Thank you so much! read more
Taiyaki ice-cream! We tried it first in LA and had to get it again here! I got the tofu or vanilla ish flavor and it was very good with pocky and sprinkles for my toppings both very yummy. It was a nice treat on a warm day. The mall is super cool too tons to see wow! Prices were great and very quick service. read more

Wanted a dessert after dinner so came here around 7:30 PM. The line was short for the kiosk to order. You can't go into the actual storefront; you self-order, wait outside, and they call your name out when it's ready. There's some benches outside to sit and eat at, definitely more of a to-go place. I got the Matcha and Black Sesame Swirl Soft Serve. The Matcha was great -- the flavor really came through without being overly sweet like some other places have it. The color was beautiful! What really stood out to me was the Black Sesame. I think most places dilute black sesame flavors with milk and cream, but this one was so concentrated and tasted like my favorite tangyuan filling from childhood. I loved it so much! I tried my friend's Ube and seasonal Mandarin Orange flavors, both of which really came through and were also great. Would come back again! read more

Very delicious soft serve! But there will be a wait~ Uji time is very much known for matcha desserts. So the first visit I tried a matcha soft serve in taiyaki cone. It's a fish shaped egg waffle that is toasty crispy on the outside and spongy on the inside. I like to get red bean as filling. The soft serve is very good! Sweet but not too sweet. The second visit I tried the ube one. It's smooth but more icy than creamy. I actually prefer less creamy cuz it feels less heavy. The ube one is sweeter than matcha. But both are delicious! The shop is small so you would be eating in the hall way. But that's ok. You order on the screen and wait for your treats. Service is not super fast but taiyaki cone does take a while to be freshly made so a wait is expected. read more
Too melty, dripped all over. Very disappointing. The fish was soggy, not crunchy. Is it the warmness inside the mall that speeded the melt. Picture wise it was beautiful. Tastewise, it was drinking, less licking. The nice part was the tables and chairs to rest and eat the dripping fish. The line is a bit long because of ordering through an iPad. Hard to figure out. Uji Time Dessert is perfect place for soft serve ice cream with Taiyaki (fish shaped waffle cake) in Japan Town. I like their crunchy Taiyaki and not overly sweet ice cream - many desserts are typically too sweet for me including Boba where I have to request less sugar. Uji Time has seasonal flavors they cycle through with Matcha, Black Sesame, and Ube always on their menu with many toppings to choose from. They also have milkshakes, mochi, wagashi, and warabi. I've been here many times since they've opened and although it can get busy at times, the line usually goes by faster than expected and the order comes out around 5-10 minutes later. Uji Time is a good place to begin or end the day while at Japan Town. read more

Wow! I've always seen the long lines for this place and never tried it due to my aversion to lines. Happened to be at Japantown to pick up my daughter and saw that the line wasn't terrible for Uji Time after stepping out of Daiso. So, I braved the short line and ordered some mochi ice cream for me and a Taiyaki soft serve for my daughter. Now I see what all the hype is about. The mochi ice cream was delectable. Hands down the best mochi ice cream I have ever tasted. I got black sesame, passion fruit and salted caramel. Each one was so tasty and delicious. I kept waiting to see if one would disappoint and none did. My daughter got a traditional taiyaki with Nutella filling and matcha soft serve with Oreo crumbles and a chocolate wafer topping. She was pleasantly surprised that it was larger than she expected and claimed that it was delicious too. Will definitely come back to try more delicious flavors! read more

I love a sweet treat after a meal, so my friends and I came to check this place out! There is a seasonal flavor (blueberry when we went), and there is a diversity of items in the menu! The service was quick, though there is no where to sit within the actual location. Nonetheless, there are many benches outside to sit and eat, or we could walk around and eat our dessert. I got the ube with a Nutella-filled fish cone that I very much enjoyed. You also get two free toppings! I would definitely come again as this was definitely a 10/10 experience :) read more

Very Very smooth ice cream, great matcha flavor, love the oreo crumbs. Very easy to eat, got messy once ha ha. Also slightly difficult to hold. Also it starte melting immediately. I already reviewed this so I'll keep it short For a dessert place, its a 5/5 read more
I have been coming to Uji for years now and they never disappoint! I was initially drawn to this place because of the fish cone but the matcha and black sesame ice cream is amazing!! They have a great selection of toppings and the best part is the red bean paste in the tayaki!! Highly recommend this place in Japantown and kids love it too. read more
Overall, everything we ordered was pretty tasty. However, the self-service kiosk system slows down the process. Ordering is confusing because the menu is not well-organized, and there's no staff to assist, leading to long lines. Once you place your order, the food comes out quickly, as they prioritize production over cashier duties, which is where most of the wait time occurs. There are no tables and chairs to sit but customers can lounge around the stairwell. The location isn't special or visually appealing but it's probably better rent overhead. Despite this, the food is good and worth its rating, with prices matching the quality. It's a great mall to spend a few hours shopping, eating sushi, ramen, or udon, and then enjoying drinks and dessert. If you enjoy Japanese culture, this area is the go-to spot. read more
They usually switch out their flavors but kve only gotten to try the sakura and the cola flavor. Both were really good and would totally get again. I want to try the lychee kne next! The service was fast due ti the face you can order on the tablet. There wasnt much seating beaides two benches. It wasnt crowded at all if you go on a weekday. read more

Do you have the melon soft serve?
All the ice cream that I saw there is all soft ice cream not sure about the melon flavor
Is anything gluten-free as in made with rice flour and not wheat flour? What's the safest item for someone w gluten sensitive issues?

I don't think so, I believe it's more like a soft serve consistency

Hi there! All of our soft-serve is made of cows milk, we will continue to research and develop a non-dairy option in the near future. We do have slush that is dairy-free.
Do they have any lactose free/ vegan options?
They have a tofu flavored ice cream but I'm not sure if that's completely made of soy
What are the specialties in Uji Time?
Really depends what you want to get but they are known for their soft serve served inside a fish cone which they will have available next week!!
