The food was good but the Braised Beef Noodle Soup needs more time to cook. It was tough. I overheard someone say it on the way out. I told him, "I agree." They need a person who will just refill your glasses with water or you might have to wait awhile. Otherwise, good place for some Dim Sum items anytime of the week. read more

Hello, I wanted leave a review to express my sincere disappointment with the food and drinks I received Monday night. No one from the official website bothered to answer me. I order over $50 worth of food. The pork chop I got was like someone spilled or dumped a whole container of black pepper on it! It was inedible. And the two peach teas with 50% sweetener tasted like they were way off. Kind of a chemically taste. I asked for a refund for these items. They were not good at all! This was my 3rd or 4th visit to Ugly dumpling, and I will NOT be back. I have dined in as well as taken out and it seems like the service and food cannot be consistent. For the pepper crusted pork chop I paid $9.00 and for the two chemical black iced teas, I paid $14.30! FIND ANOHTER PLACE TO GO !! DO NOT GO HERE read more

Since it's a new restaurant, there have been service issues. There was a long wait since the wait staff was not available. When we got our table, we were told that they are out of chicken dumplings and sichuan dumplings. We ended up ordering other dumplings and really enjoyed the dumplings sampler. It was flavorful and soupy! 4 stars for food! read more

Servers are great and friendly. The noodle dishes were the best thing there as they were all delicious. However they lost me with the serving sizes for the baos and the dumplings as they were one of the smallest I've encountered in a long time. I may come back for the noodles but not for the baos or the dumplings. read more

I've been wanting to try this family-style place ever since it opened, and it did NOT disappoint. I had heard mixed reviews about this place, so I wanted to come check it out for myself. I came here with my boyfriend for our one year anniversary and had a great experience. We were seated immediately when we arrived. Our server was nice and attentive. Food came out within minutes after ordering. Portion sizes were larger than I had expected. Restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. Overall, no complaints. I would highly recommend the spicy chicken wontons. They were delectable. They were not that spicy, however, maybe like a 5/10 for spice level. It was also quite interesting to watch the chefs make the dumplings, which was an added bonus to the experience. read more

Service was amazing! I recommend to ask for "Jonathan", very attentive, caring, and friendly! Made sure to describe everything that we ordered. Manager was very very nice was quick and enthusiastic about the whole first time experience! Recommend the string beans, cream cheese ragoons, l the Bao BBQ buns, and the orange chicken! Ambiance was very warm and spacious. I do wish that they had a lazy susan for food sharing! read more

We went there last night and the food was pretty good always. The noodle soup was really good for the rain.

Abel was very nice and quick with everything. Great food! I also had the chicken soup dumplings and they are wonderful. read more

I was excited to try this place and the menu looked good, but: Restaurant (including bathroom) was dirty and dingy-think sticky condiment bottles that looked like they hadn't been wiped down in months. Service was slow, dumplings were luke warm and rubbery. Couldn't distinguish between the different meats in my soup dumpling sampler and sauces were flavorless. My stomach is still telling me I made a bad call. read more

I do not recommend this restaurant. The service was horrible, it took a long time before we were greeted by our server and then a long time for even water to arrive. The server was inattentive and the food was just mid. There is so much hype around this restaurant as a "DTF dupe" and it just was not good. We ordered the green beans, the spicy pork and shrimp wontons, the pork and shrimp shumai, the chicken noodles and chicken soup dumplings. The green beans were good, the rest of it was not. The pork and shrimp shumai in particular were so bad that we could not eat them. If you want dumplings, go to Yu Noodles or for dimsum in Falls Church. This place is NOT it. read more

The food is ok, but one of our orders didn't come until the rest of us were finished eating. We went for dinner with seven people. Our server didn't mention the 18 percent gratuity when we paid, so we added a tip on top. Don't get me wrong--we tip when the big tip is due--but our server needed four reminders about the missing order, served five waters instead of 7, and had to ask another server to have the other 2. read more

service was incredible slow, ambiance is nice. it's definitely like the nova version of din tai fung. prices are pretty reasonable. i tried the soy garlic wings, the spicy noodles, pork and shrimp chili wontons, and the wonton tacos. SO good (nothing was really spicy tho). would definitely go back and try more stuff read more

Sarah was honestly one of the best parts of our experience at Ugly Dumpling. She was super kind, patient, and welcoming the entire time my friends and I were there. She made sure we had everything we needed, checked in on us throughout our meal, and had such a positive attitude that made the whole atmosphere feel even better. You can tell she genuinely cares about the customers and enjoys what she does. Her service made our visit way more enjoyable, and we'll definitely be coming back because of how well she treated us. read more

I got an order of soup dumplings and a scallion pancake. The dumplings were great however the pancake was just okay. It wasn't bad I just wouldn't get it again. Overall my experience was fine, I was a little disappointed that they were out of the cucumber salad. read more

This place was great! Services was quick and our waiter made some really good recommendations. Unfortunately did not get to watch them make our dumplings but it sounded like a cool experience. We tried the pork soup dumplings, the spicy soup dumplings, chicken fried rice, and wonton soup. I also had a lychee martini which was very sweet and could easily see myself downing a few of those! Food was delicious and they were very gracious with our toddler accommodations. 5/5 Awesome spot read more

The food was delicious and our server Crystal was incredible and so attentive. Highly recommend!

The place is so dirty. The utensils plates have so much food residue, it doesn't look like they wash their dishes. Truffle dim sum was good, beef noodles were bland, spicy wontons weren't good, har gow was ok read more

I've been couple of times I live closer not that long from my house . Among other Chinese restaurants this is my other good recommendation . Friendly staff , affordable and delicious. No doubt about this . Definitely coming back read more

Tried this place out. A smaller menu, but still had plenty to choose from. Of Course everything we ordered was no small feat for 2 people. I like to be indulgent when going out and trying as much as I can. So food items Appetizers Ribs. Not the braised ribs. I can't find the kind we had, on the online menu. These were on the sweeter side and notnlacking in meat, oh so good! Fried pork chop. Good serving, but was more of a try it out item.. It's a fried breaded pork chop Spring rolls were deliscious Spicy chicken wontons.( not spicy at all, but my spice level is pretty high) still good and loved the sauce they were in. String beans with garlic, a win. You can never go wrong with these. Noodles with sesame and added the braised beef. Deliscious Noodles with the diced beef and szechuan peppers. It was good but I preferred the sesame noodles so much more. They have Pepsi products in case you are a coca cola lover. The manager did try to make me an extra spicy sauce. I appreciated the effort and did use it all, but it was not hot. I know it is not about the hot and the food had great flavor. I just prefer a kick of heat. Oh had the soup dumpling sampler. I have to say I really liked them all, but the truffle one was my favorite. Most are full of pork and they had one chicken filled. Last but not least A.J. our server. Was training on the job. Could not even tell. He did a great job!! So go see A.J. I want to try the soups and more of the other plates. I enjoyed my time there and the food. I know my favorites. Sorry no pics. We dug in being so hungry read more

I wish I could give it more stars but I was honestly disappointed in the dumplings. They were very bland and the Pork and Truffle dumpling (black dumpling) was disgusting. It smelled like rotten cheese and literally had to leave it aside. My pork dumplings were also not fully cooked, I saw a lot of pink in them but I honestly just thought that's how they were supposed to be since this was my first experience with soup dumplings. The service was ok, it wasn't the best, and the vibe in the area is pretty good. it's not too overstimulating. I did end up having a really bad stomach ache immediately after i got home and threw up all my dumplings. So I don't think I would recommend this place to anyone, it's just overpriced for the quality of the dumplings. read more

The food was fantastic, and the employees are very nice! The all the chicken came out fresh and crunchy, with great flavor! And the employees were very nice, especially Cyrus at the front desk! read more

Wonderful selection of dumplings in the sampler. My husband had braised beef and broccoli pho soup and loved it. I absolutely adored the mango tea with passion fruit bubbles. This is a great restaurant where you can watch them make the dumplings and the vibe is very modern and fun. I definitely would recommend it for all groups. read more

All y'all who said Ugly Dumpling was fire, lied. It was mediocre. We ordered the following: Fried Pork Chop - bit dry, and not the flavor profile I was expecting. I thought it would be Chinese style but it was more American style. 4/10 Soup dumpling sampler - 4 out of 5 had no soup in them (the truffle one had great flavor, the rest were bleh). They came out warm and not piping hot from the steamer. 4/10 Spicy pork & shrimp wontons - was not spicy at all, it was swimming in soy sauce. 5/10 Braised beef noodle soup - the broth was decent, not salty but very star anise-y. The bowl was very small for $15, not worth it. 6/10 Noodles with sesame sauce - this was good, the peanut flavor was more forward than the sesame sauce. 6.5/10 Side note - chili oil was good Overall, I'd rather go to A&Js for all the items we ordered minus the soup dumplings, which they don't serve. Each item came out room temperature even the beef noodle soup. Points for great service though. Nathan was our server and he was very attentive. The food was served pretty quickly. Lastly, those who said Ugly Dumpling is a DTF dupe is on point. I wasn't too impressed with DTF NY either... FWIW, you can go and tell me how you liked it. read more

Ugly Dumpling - Steamed BBQ Pork Buns (3) - Chinese Near Me - Fairfax, Virginia

Tried to place a carry out order but due to poor planning, they were out of several popular items. Apparently there was a busy event in the morning/afternoon which meant that they were out of 3 items that I tried to order:cucumber salad, garlic green beans and bbq steamed buns. Did not end up ordering anything. Really poor planning on managements part! read more

The service was excellent, Eric took his time to explain the menu, checked on us, even throw in a small card trick at end of the meal. The soup dumplings met the expectation, we ordered the sampler, some flavors aren't impressive. The sesame noodles was decent. However the Hot and Sour soup was bad, neither sour (from the vinegar) or hot (from the white pepper), it had a layer of chili oil on top. The fried pork chop came out cold and small. Not sure if I will come back again, at least not a near future. read more

Came for the first time and was pleasantly surprised by the food and service. Sam was a delight and made me want to come back again!

Sadly, a rather regrettable experience. The fried calamari was very soggy, but the portion size was right for the price. The Mongolian beef was simply OK. Nothing to note in that regard. Ultimately, the subpar appetizer and the rather mediocre food for a high price means that I will not return in the future read more

Barzo was a great server. Place was almost as good as Din Tai Fung in terms of soup dumplings

Food quality was excellent. The xiaolong bao have that thin shell but plenty of stuffing and most importantly the soup. The rest of the entree dishes like the pork chop with fried rice and the string beans with garlic are all tasty and full of flavor. Waiters were good with the service and checked regularly. Food wait is a bit long but given that it just opened its sometimes to be expected. We did get seats with a view of the cooks wrapping up the xiaolong bao read more

Went tonight and we got dumplings, bao buns, soup dumplings, sweet and sour chicken and fried rice. The dumplings, soup dumplings and bao buns were great! I think the server forgot to ring in my fried rice, so the person I was with got all their food before I did. When we asked about the fried rice, he went back and it came out 5 minutes later with an apology. When I went to eat it, I noticed there was a hair on top of it. We mentioned this to someone who looked like a manager and he apologized and said he'd bring me another, but when he brought me another there was a now a hair on the side of the plate! I said nothing, brushed it off my plate and ate. Then they charged me for the fried rice... read more

Literally out of everything by 3:00 pm on a Sunday. Out of soup dumpling sampler (the entire reason why most people come here), braised beef noodle soup, popcorn chicken, green beans, etc. I can't even list all the things they were out of there were so many. Service and hostesses were unprofessional like untrained high school students that were giggling in the front. Just wack read more

Service was great and food came out fast, fresh, and hot. I got the cucumber salad, garlic green beans, orange chicken, and pork soup dumplings. Everything overall didn't have much flavor. Orange chicken was a bit bready, but it had good flavor. Like Panda Express but better (freshness and quality). Place was nicely decorated. I'd come back if I'm craving orange chicken, but it wasn't anything special. read more

The dumplings were really good. Service was on point. Happy hour will save you enough to get tomorrow's lunch to go.

The dumplings here are amazing but the buns are even better! Highly recommend if you love dumplings.
