Food was excellent. Quick service Ordered the tomato omelet. Per menu, batter is made of chick pea flour. Tasted pretty good. Also, the vegetarian biryani was perfect

We really love this place, but it's been a while. Today, we picked up three different dosas that we ordered over the phone. The woman on the phone was so kind and accommodating as we asked a number of questions. We ordered the Mysore Masala Dosa ($12.50), the Udupi Special Spring Dosa (requested no potatoes- $12.95), and the Spinach Paneer Dosa ($13.95). All of the dosas come with the coconut chutney, sambar, and spicy sauce. I always order the masala dosa, and as usual, it was perfect! Classic choice. The spring dosa was probably my least favorite of the three (and it was still good, to be clear). This may have been because we asked for the potatoes to be nixed. The vegetables could've been sautéed for a bit longer. The spinach paneer dosa was a surprise favorite. Whoa! The seasoning and textures were unexpected and worked perfectly. I forgot how good this place was (it's very no-frills in terms of decor) and my mom, sister, and I all agreed we'd be back very soon!

My friend and I came by for some South Indian food to celebrate Diwali. We dropped by Sunday around 6 pm and only a couple tables were occupied, though it got busier as we were eating. The menu is fully vegetarian and focuses on South Indian dishes like vada, dosa, and uthappam, though they have offer some curries as well. My friend and I shared the thali ($15.95) and the Udupi combo ($14.95), which comes with either dosa/uthappam and idli + medhu vada. We got the masala dosa for the combo. The combo was good. There was a generous amount of potato filling inside the dosa, and we enjoyed both the vada and idli with the sambar. The curries in the thali were a bit hit and miss, as they usually are. My favorites were the green bean curry and the potato curry. I find the portions here a bit smaller than other South Indian places. My friend was full after the meal, but I wasn't fully satisfied and ended up snacking afterwards to get full.

I have driven past this place for years. I wish I had stopped sooner. Parking is street, so can be hit or miss. Service was friendly and helpful. Restaurant is vegetarian and most items can be made vegan. I ordered entirely way too much and it was all delicious. I really enjoyed the amount of small plates and street food options. Many items that you don't normally see I highly recommend ordering the samosa chaat. The Thali was very reasonable in price. I can't wait to return.

What a wonderful staple of Berkeley! We have been going here for years, and Udupi Palace is a favorite eatery of ours. Service is quick, and food is delicious. We try to come here when it's not too crowded with a lunch or dinner rush, and for those quick meals after running errands. Dosas are very tasty, as are the curries. The chutneys are good but not overwhelming, and they are a nice complement to the meal - some might even say bland, but I prefer the subdued chutneys. This is a great place to pick up food, or stop in for a quick bite to eat. It's also right by Trader Joe's, so eat here then get ready to shop at TJ's afterwards.

My first intro to dosas! A visiting friend was craving Indian food so we did a quick scan on Yelp-- the first thing that jumped out was their massive paper dosas :O Apparently not too many spots make these. I haven't explored much of the Indian restaurants in Berkeley so was excited to try something new. Located on University, further out from downtown. Udupi Palace is modestly-decorated, largely quiet other than some muted clanging in the kitchen. Staff are very sweet and accommodating-- our group of 3 was immediately seated after walking in. SPINACH PANEER DOSA: Crispy, light dosa with a hearty, spinach-heavy filling. Comes with three dipping sauces whose names escape me now-- all equally delicious and rounded out the savory dosa in different ways. The portions are generous, especially with the prices. They definitely found a new fan in me~

Solid spot next to Trader Joe's for some Indian food. I ordered a vegetable dosa, and this was actually my first time trying a dosa! It comes wrapped in something similar to a crepe, but more crispy, with curried vegetables inside. The vegetables were flavorful and not too heavy. There are four different dips for the dosa, each offering unique flavors and textures. Definitely enjoyed my food here.

Environment and service leaves a lot to be desired but man. This is delicious stuff. The price is also very reasonable. You definitely would not leave hungry and honestly I miss Udupi's dosa if I don't have it once a month - never thought I'd say that about a fully vegetarian spot. Give it a try if you haven't!

Hey Y'all, Went here…read morethe night going into my birthday a few days ago. I totally forgot the name of it, someone took me here, but I hunted it down just to leave a review! THIS IS A GREAT BAR. one of the best I ever been to. Their food is so good, I am still thinking about their prawn street tacos and the prawn flatbread. I wish I had some right now! I can taste it in my mouth, oh lord. They have one of the BEST BARTENDERS EVER, her name is Adela, I hope I am spelling that correctly. She was so beautiful, she had long beautiful dread locks. We talked and she was very welcoming her and Nicholas who birthday was a day before mines, he was so cool. They made sure we had everything we needed and our drinks was to our likings, she was very very informative about our drinks, what was in it, and she even had great detail to the things we wanted/looking for in our drinks. I still can not get off how good the food was. This place is a VIBE, period. Music was on POINT! and its very cute and I LOVE THE HUGE OPEN window, wish I got a pic of it. It wasn't loud, ghetto or dirty, just a nice place to vibe, have a very good drink and great food. I can not wait to come back and see you guys, EVERYONE PLEASE CHECK THEM OUT. 1000/10. LOVE YOU GUYS!

I tried two different drinks and requested a re-do with less ginger but they both still had this spicy, ginger-y taste-- not for me, personally. and their soft drinks are very limited, only carrying Mexican coke that's $5 a bottle. after we were seated, it took about 15-20 mins before someone checked on us again. and that was kind of the theme throughout the night. but the servers were lovely! maybe someone didn't show for their shift. the food is verrrrry good though. maybe some spicier sauce options would be nice. i think the chutney is the spiciest they have. the white sauce is also very yummy too. would visit again just because the food is that good.

Both my mom and I ordered lunch specials, and it seemed to be a good value. I especially enjoyed the naan and malai kofta and the salad was a nice side too. I was not a fan of the chana masala, as it seemed to lack flavor and the sauce was slightly watery. I opted for mild level of spice, since I was concerned the meal would be too spicy, but that was not the case. We also ordered some pappadum along with chicken momos to share, and it was an alright dish, although I did think the filling wasn't quite tasty. The sauce was a nice touch, and helped add a small burst of flavor and a mild kick. Customer service was great and attentive and the restaurant was nicely decorated with a cozy vibe. Overall, our meal was enjoyable and I am glad that there was an option to order lunch specials for weekend lunch. Although, I wished some items were more flavorful or spicy. I'd possibly return to try other items on the menu if I'm nearby or visiting campus. Seems like a pretty solid spot for Nepalese/Indian food!
