This is a fantastic Japanese restaurant, one of the best in DFW. I took my cousin here for his birthday on a Friday night. Big mistake since I didn't have a reservation BUT we were seated at the bar at 5pm when they opened which was great! You definitely need a reservation. For parking, you need valet because there is a lot of construction going on around the area. The food was superb! The sushi is fresh, drinks were incredible and they have lots of options for vegans/vegetarians! My cousin said the sushi was excellent especially the sea urchin. I really enjoyed sitting at the bar and interacting with all the servers there it made the experience even more lively compared to if we sat at a table. This review is from a visit in January of 2024. Still the best salmon nigiri we've had. Buttery, Creamy, Sweet, and goes down the hatch just a little too easily. Hamachi Yuzu Appetizer (hama chili) dish is DELICIOUS and a staple for us as well. Just try to go for Happy Hour, regular prices are really expensive. By my estimation since the happy hour menu is for two pieces of nigiri, you're getting about a 40-50% discount on most items. That said, no matter when you go, service, food, atmosphere is always phenomenal. Free valet is always a plus as well, make sure to tip the valet staff! (Also PS what do they put in the water here? Food came out fast, but not too fast! Food: Brussels Sprouts - honestly some of the best brussels I have EVER had! So incredibly savory and flavorful. Biendo - the perfect palate cleanser. Uchi is good, but for the price and the hype, I expected it to be better. I came with friends to their happy hour, and I came knowing that it was a pricey, higher-end sushi spot - even so, I was surprised by just how small the portions were for the price (and I'm used to high prices for small portions from New York). I had the hamachi pictured, which did taste good but were very tiny, a chicken bao (interesting), and two pieces of forgettable nigiri (not pictured) with what I believe is imitation wasabi, which is a bit of a shame. The interior is also nice, but not as nice as I would have expected. I would be open to coming back for their omakase, which seems to be the main attraction here. However, while the food tasted good, it wasn't amazing or special, which is what I would have expected it to be. read more

I was excited to try something out of the norm. Upon entering there were many people behind the hostess stand chatting it up with themselves and we had to approach them to get their attention. Waited about 15 minutes for our table to be prepared. For a group of 14 we definitely made reservations and coordinated with them months in advance. While the omakase was alright nothing truly stuck out about the dining experience. If only our service was as good as the food. Our waiter was both down to earth and charismatic. He certainly kept the flow going that night. The food on the other hand were your standard rolls, nigiri, sashimi and tataki pieces paired with mystery sauces. For what we paid I would pass. However, we did celebrate a milestone birthday so at least that part was memorable. Great food? Probably a bit of a stretch. Good food? Sure, it's passable for the most part. I've been to Uchi in Houston and this one was similar. Trust the reviews, food here is really good. ATMOSPHERE: The restaurant has a great ambiance. Lighting is soft and despite it being packed, we were able to have an easy conversation. A huge plus is the free valet parking. FOOD: We got a variety of rolls and appetizers and hot dishes. The stand out was the mushroom dish. It had crispy Japanese rice and a hot sauce, and the egg yolk tied the dish together. I also really liked the Brussels sprouts (though ours had a random piece of chicken in it lol). You have to get the fried milk dessert, thank me later. I'll leave the sushi review to the many others written here - I will say that the more unique items are sold as single pieces that can drive your bill up. SERVICE: Our server was nice and attentive for us. They helped us through the menu. VALUE: Our bill for 2 was less than $100, but we opted to not get any of the sashimi. I've always heard good things, but now that I've experienced it myself I can say without a doubt that the team at Uchi has mastered the art of hospitality. From the moment we pulled up at valet, the experience was top notch. Every single staff member we spoke with was so kind and helpful and had such great energy. They actually read the reservation notes so each person from the host stand to our server, chef, and even bussers told my best friend happy birthday when they came by our seats. The food was everything we wanted it to be and more. We were given a complimentary palate cleanser to start which was a passion fruit coconut sorbet situation (pictured) and it was fantastic. I would buy it by the pint if they ever decided to sell it. The cocktails are great too - we tried the lychee martini, the Uchi 75, and the ichigo, but the Uchi 75 was our fave of the 3. We decided to go with the happy hour omakase which at $80 a person is an absolute STEAL. It features 8 courses but we were given 2 complimentary courses due to the birthday celebration - one of which was the foie gras nigiri and was absolutely mind blowing. The picture of the dish with the green sauce is the lobster with green curry and it took every bit of self restraint not to lick the bowl clean. For dessert we had the fried milk and it was an out of body experience. I seriously almost cried. The flavor, all the textures and temperatures...how do you make a tuile taste so good?! Omg. The Hama Chili was light and citrusy with the orange segments and ponzu sauce. Family thought the Horace was better. You eat it upside down so the flavors hit your tongue. Boy does it! It starts a little tangy and then the heat comes. Madai Crudo was served as a congratulatory dish, since we were celebrating a special occasion. Grilled dame was so good. Had had this place recommended by many people and sadly was a little let down. The hostess told us it would be an hour wait, right after the people in front of us with the same number of people were told they could be seated in 30 mins and they decided to leave and go somewhere else, math wasn't mathing. When we stepped out and came back they told us that none of the people that were there an hour before had ever gotten up to leave. We sat outside and had a very knowledgeable server, but not too friendly like we were inconvenient. Don't get me wrong the sushi was good but have definitely had better. The 72hr wagu was good but not worth the hype. We got drinks too close to end of meal and asked if we could take them to the bar upstairs, we were told no. So again we felt inconvenient sitting at a could be open table finishing our drinks. Didn't get a chance to see much of the property but it was industrial and well kept. The host area was pretty crowded and noisy. When we left we had an experience that didn't sit well. A food delivery person had parked in front by valet. A customer berated the driver yelling at him to move his car. The fault was not the delivery person but no one helped the delivery person. If you are going to accept online orders for delivery have a better system in place. That interaction could have been avoided. read more

Came here on a Monday night during happy hour. We were promptly seated at the sushi bar. Our waitress arrived quickly and provided many suggestions as it was my first time at Uchi. I prefer sushi where the natural flavor of the fish is prominent, so my preferences will be towards those dishes. We ordered many nigiri items: gyutoro (72 hr shortrib), sake (salmon), akami (tuna), hamachi (yellowtail), namahotate (scallop), zuwaigani (snow crab), and nasu (eggplant). We also ordered the tuna maki roll, the Walu Walu (Escobar), and Fried Milk. My top 3 were the Walu Walu, the salmon nigiri and surprisingly the eggplant! The Walu Walu was perfectly tender and had a great blend of smoky, savory, and citrusy flavors. The salmon had just enough sauce on it to add flavor and allow the fish to shine. The eggplant really blew me away! The savory taste with the melt in your mouth texture and the surprising smokiness, this was probably my favorite bite of the evening. (I know shocker!) Out of the dishes I wouldn't go back for they'd be the tuna maki roll, the scallops, and the snow crab nigiri. These items missed the mark because I wasn't able to taste the fish because other parts of the dish overpowered it. The basil aioli masked the tuna, but even the roll on its own did not have much flavor. I love scallops because of their delicate sweetness, but the Thai chili and lemon zest overpowered it. The snow crab although simple did not have sweetness I was expecting from it. The fried milk is a fan favorite and it is an awesome dish. I appreciated the staff adding an extra piece as I was sharing the dish with my friend. I loved the balance of flavor and texture on this dish and it was very fun to explore the different components. Overall I had a good time and Uchi and look forward to see what new things they come up with. read more

Some of the best sushi in Texas and that I have ever had. Far superior to nobu in my opinion. The omakase is a must, especially if you sit at the bar and have the experience with the chef. The service is amazing and the waiters are always so kind and helpful and give genuine reccomendations. The baby sea bream is my favorite nigiri so I was sad when it wasn't in season the last time I came. For me what really makes the sushi stand out is the quality and flavor of the rice. I love how it has a great happy hour as well. Standouts in the menu are the gyutoro(short rib nigiri), cod in hot tastings and the Hama chili. This is my favorite Japanese restaurant in Dallas! It was dangerous because I used to live close to this restaurant and I frequented here whenever I had cravings for Japanese food. I like the ambiance here and the decor is very modern. All of their nigiri and appetizers are delicious. My favorites are the foie gras sushi, the hot rock wagyu beef, the crudos, and just everything on the menu! They have good happy hour food and drinks as well. You have to make a reservation at least a week or two in advance because they are always so busy! Their service is also very attentive. I was in town on a work trip and googled best places to dine in Dallas. I got really lucky I was alone and able to book a reservation at the bar. Their omakase is the pricier side, so I opted to order off the menu. Some of my favorites nigiri's were AMAEBI, HOKKAIDO SCALLOP, FOIE GRAS, and MADAI. Loved their take on the UCHI SALAD.
