Great shop. Very clean and awesome selection of specialized and Santa Cruz. We will definitely be back

    UC Cyclery storefront

Being an cycling addict reminiscing of the good old days... let's start with inventory it's all high end and curated to the ride. To be honest most of the components I would have handpicked myself. Nothing is invincible at a certain point but hands down fox factory lasts for years. The shop utilizes a compact showroom design with a space off the side for mechanics. Despite the compact showroom they have everything from high end mountain bikes to high end road/gravel bikes to high end e-bikes(mtb/road/comfort & hybrid). Bikes for all ages, sizes and riders! They have high quality apparel and protectives as well as decent discount on some inventory too. Nutrition and maintenance needs. The shop staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and engaging. By the engagement and tidiness of the shop, I can tell they have a deep understanding of rider needs and the equipment associated with cycling, competitive and recreational. Being a busy shop I'd expect turnaround times to be fair/moderate on repairs/upgrade/maintenance. I didn't take too much of a look at the service board but I would expect price point is going to be higher, from the shop overhead/location, but judging from the mix of bikes/gear and the knowledge/experience of the employees, I'd say that the mechanics side would meet or exceed my standards (which are pretty high) when it comes to care and attention to detail. Had the opportunity to talk shortly with the owner Dave, he is humble and very personable, a good guy with years of experience in the sport, notices how the small things play a big role in the ride. This is a great stop especially if your a dedicated cyclist. Not to mention close to local freeway and shopping centers.

I haven't always been a huge Lulu fan. I've purchased their clothing many times but they don't seem to fit as well as Vuori. Yoga Barre in Del Mar has been our go to hot yoga place and they have Lulu yoga mats they were letting new clients try out. I'm not one to invest in a $90+ yoga mat but Lulu yoga mats (the 5mm) was a game changer. I hated using the yogi word 'practice' as it seemed so silly but the Lulu mat definitely changed the way the way I performed in yoga. Paul C. was the best associate here at this location. He was the one who gave me all the ins & outs of ALL their mats and which one he felt was best for me (plus he owns a few of them so was able to give me real life advice about them). He was so welcoming and genuine with his suggestions. I purchased this beautiful pink 5mm yoga mat and loved it. I was religious about cleaning it after each hot yoga class. **BUT** the pink color started to stain/fade no matter how meticulous I would be about cleaning , letting it air dry after un rolled, etc. It was starting to stress me out big time (during yoga class) how i could maintain the mat so the pink color would remain the same. I took the mat to UTC (I've had it for 6+ months now ) and the staff was so helpful. It made my day to see Paul C again helping others on opening day! He remembered me and we talked more about the mats and some clothing suggestions. They let me exchange my mat for the same 5mm BUT in black which has made a WORLD OF A DIFFERENCE. THe black mat does not stain, fade, etc. I no longer fret about the maintenance of the mat (i still clean the mat after ever use and hang over a chair at home). Thank you Paul & staff :)

That hybrid fitness bike is so worth it especially having my favorite color Rose Red - their color called "Orchid" , bike is so light and fast. I had to buy a kick stand since it doesn't come with the bike and it came loose , so I came today to have it fix and wanting to return the white lucky cat water bottle bike holder since I found the black one somewhere else where it's sold out. Chris acknowledge me since he was busy with a customer, apologizing that I had to wait and fixed the bike stand , took off the cat water bottle holder, put air in my tires, adjusted my seat, height and put the phone holder I never got originally? On that note... gotta give that credit to Kelly, who noticed I didn't have one and I told her I brought it up when I bought the bike Wednesday ? She even adjusted my light reflector to a smaller size to fit my handle bars. Didn't question me why I wanted to returned the white cat water bottle holder. Just also know that all their bike stuff is located in another building, so dont be disappointed. Its cool to have another building just for bikes and bike related gear. This REI also has a lightly used section. I do go and check out whats on offer there, but so far haven't found anything that works. The thing with REI is that you have to want the thing thats carried in the store and nowadays with so many options, REI won't always carry I what I need specifically... Case in point, cavers need specialized equipment as our needs are different than say climbers or canyoneerers. Yes, some things might be shared, but in general, cavers have very special needs. But, today, when I came in here, I did find a quick link I needed so that worked out nicely. I am also a runner and finally decided I need a fanny pack (I hate how the 80s and 90s ruined this item for me), so I also got one that was small enough that would be perfect for my runs. Service is always great here, very friendly and staff always trying to help. I like also that this REI has a community board in the back and I like to check out whats on offer locally. Really wonderful to have this REI here in Kearny Mesa, super convenient and I can go Asian grocery shopping right after! Win win!

They were offering 50% off literally everything. I'm not sure if it was due to a grand opening, but the prices were honestly a steal for athletic wear. Most of their items are activewear, but they also carry a lot of apparel geared toward doctors and nurses, including scrubs, which I thought was really cool.
