Huge shoutout to Chris at CycleQuest! I brought in my son's e-bike expecting a complicated (and probably expensive) repair, and Chris couldn't have been more helpful. He took the time to really look things over, explained what was actually going on, and was incredibly honest about the situation instead of trying to upsell or take advantage of it. What really stood out was how generous he was with his time. He walked us through everything, answered all our questions, and made sure we understood the best path forward. Super friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely cares about helping people rather than just making a quick sale. It's rare to find that level of integrity and service these days. If you need bike repairs or advice, CycleQuest is the place to go. Thanks again, Chris! read more

Old school bike shop, and that is high praise. They are helpful, honest and have a great selection

Excellent service. I needed a quick check on my front derailleur. I was up and running in less than 15 mins. I can tell they are passionate on what they do. They just got a new customer. Will go there again for all my cycling needs. Thank you!! read more

Both times I've gone in, they've been friendly and helpful -- pricing is fair too. Would recommend.

Had an issue with my daughters bike so found this place close to home, online. I called ahead and they were extremely accommodating and advised I could bring the bike straight in. They fixed in a few day for a great price. Two weeks later my bike had a puncher so I took it in without calling ahead. I was expecting to drop off and pick up in a few days, but they fixed it there and then. Excellent service and I'll be taking all my bikes here moving forward. read more

Fast and friendly professionals in a great location. Worked on my Lectric 3.0 electric bike.

I purchased a bike from here a few weeks ago and could not have been happier with this shop. This is definitely the type of small business I love to support. The owners were very friendly and knowledgeable, and their inventory matched their website!!! read more

We needed a small bike part in the middle of a bike ride. Sharon sold us the part fast we continued on our bike ride. The price was very reasonable. Great service. I recommend Cycle Quest. read more

Conveniently located on the UCSD I-5 bike path, this is my favorite bike shop by far. Brian and team are super nice and competent. They won't waste your time, but will patiently talk to you until your understand your options. With a relaxed, low pressure and personal touch, you get the best advice, great selection, and decent prices. If you need anything done on the bike, you'll get fast and expert service. I'd say you can't ask for more at a bike store, but when you roll in the Zumbar coffee shop, and the Lucky Bolt deli, both next door, you simply can't beat this place! read more

Helpful, friendly, and patient folks. Have always left there with a smile. Best service of any shop I have ever visited read more

Excellent customer service. Came in to get my daughter's bike serviced and buy a bike for my son. They were great, helped us pick out the right bike, and helped him get comfortable riding it in the parking lot (he hadn't ridden in a few years). Very kind, very helpful. read more

Our daughter is starting college at UCSD, and we needed some items to get her bike ready for the school year. The gentleman working in the store was unbelievably helpful, going above and beyond to provide outstanding service. We'll definitely come back to Cycle Quest for anything bike related. read more

I had several issues with my EBike, and Brian fixed it right up in no time! I had a fantastic experience, and will definitely return. Thank you so much! Side Note: There is a different bike shop close to this one- They never returned my messages, and were erm... grumpy over the phone. I'm so glad I decided to come here instead. read more

From the moment I walked in without an appointment, Brian and his team treated me like family. My pre-owned bike from eBay had endless issues: chain constantly falling off, a stripped bolt, wobbly tires, and a locked brake stuck on the rim. Despite arriving at 5 PM after work, they took my bike in on the spot and had it ready quicker than I expected. A few months prior, he fixed another issue I had in just 10 minutes. Brian didn't just fix the immediate problems; he went above and beyond. He discovered that my triple crankset wasn't compatible with my shifters, causing shifting problems and the chain falling off. He replaced it and a few other items I wanted, all at an incredibly fair price. Throughout the process, he kept me updated and explained everything in detail, ensuring I was comfortable and informed. What truly sets Cycle Quest apart is their genuine care and exceptional customer service. They answered my calls after hours, patiently addressed all my questions, and never pressured me into anything. Unlike larger shops with flashy setups, this mom-and-pop shop offers a personal touch that's hard to find these days. My bike now feels brand new. I'm riding distances and at speeds I never thought possible. If you're looking for knowledgeable, friendly, and honest bike experts who truly care about their customers, look no further than Cycle Quest San Diego. I won't be going anywhere else! read more

Alvin was lots of help, I didn't get my bike fixed here because of the bike itself but the service and welcoming atmosphere was what stood out to me. I appreciate the honesty and the suggested next steps that Alvin gave me. However bummed we couldn't get my son's bike fixed. read more

Best bike mechanic in San Diego! Brian is the first bike shop mechanic I call if I'm stuck on one of my mountain bikes. Brian has bailed me out few times when I'm stuck or don't have the right tool. He usually does the work for me while I wait. I call first to see if he can do the work and he will let me know what time to swing on by. Does not work on air suspension shocks though. read more

Very helpful. They spent a lot of time on my daughter's special needs bike. Very nice people.

Wanted to purchase a Co-Motion Divide but it was a 3 month backlog from the manufacture. After some searching online, I saw that Cycle Quest had the exact bike I was looking for. I phoned the shop and spoke for a while with the owner and he was so nice and helpful so I made the hour drive and was so happy to find this place. The owner spent a lot of time with me and was so patient with all of my questions. It was a big purchase for me and I'm extremely happy to have found a great shop where I felt very comfortable. This will be my number one go to for all bike related purchases in the future! read more

I cannot believe that I forgot to write a review for this shop. I am stoked to have found these guys - they are experienced knowledgeable make good recommendations and make quality repairs and do tune-ups at a very low price. Any other shop in the area will be 30 to 50% more money. I've been cycling and mountain biking for over 25 years and shops of this nature are very hard to come by and are becoming more rare and more rare each and every year. I am ecstatic to support this small business when I need help with more complicated repairs moving forward and they absolutely have the expertise and experience to serve your needs well. read more

Super nice staff - I had an issue with my bike chain rubbing together and they fixed it for free in 5 minutes. Highly recommend!

I'm not a sport bike rider. I just ride my bike to run errands and get from here to there. My rear flashing red light attachment was broken by a toddler. I came to Quest thinking they might have another attachment but expecting I would be buying a complete replacement light. One of the mechanics (sorry, I don't know your names) thought he might be able to fix it. When he couldn't find the right size screw, he passed it on to the other mechanic, who located a correct fitting screw and he fixed it. I did not need to buy a new light. These folks are super friendly, helpful and honest! Patronize their store when you need a bike or accessory. read more

Have stopped in a few times to buy random parts and look at the bikes. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Best experience was when I stopped in before they officially opened while I was commuting to work during a rainy morning. My rear light was no longer holding a charge and I wanted to make sure I had a replacement for my ride home later that day. Even though they weren't technically open at the time, they still showed me all the options and spent time going over the pluses and minuses of the different models. Really appreciated the help as I needed the light then and would not have been able to safely ride home without it. Staff that understand the predicament from also riding and are willing to help makes all the difference in the quality of service. read more

Great little bike shop. Lots of cool stuff. Popular amongst the weekend bike crews and a cool coffee shop next door.

I had a cable break and the mechanic fixed it right away. I was so thankful because I would have been stuck without it. Everyone there was really nice and helpful. Would highly recommend this shop read more

Excellent bicycle shop and excellent customer service. Lots of touring bikes and touring equipment.

I believe in the Local Bike Shop (LBS). This shop is a gem in the area. It's priced right, has all the necessary equipment (mostly for MTBs), and they're extremely qualified at fixing up your bike. My buddy takes his bike to a shop further south that has really nice Specialized bikes, but he pays $100 per tune up and they up charge him for everything. I worked with Brian who tuned up my bike for $60 and when he noticed I needed a new chain he changed it for just the price of the chain without any additional labor charge. That's service and that's earned my continued business. read more

I've got my bike refurbished and now it looks like new. Fair prices and excellent customer service. Great communication. I highly recommend.

The best local bike shop for any gravel / CX bike and services. The shop owners are very knowledgeable and are all eager to help their customers out. It is now my all time favorite bike shop. read more

It's not every day you speak with a bicycle store owner who has been a history professor, helped found a record company, and is genuinely interested in assisting customers with their requests and solving their problems. For example, my girlfriend was looking for some badly needed replacement tires which had to stand up to the challenge of riding through diverse urban environments (see also thorn and flat protection), and Eric's business was the only one within striking distance - say, twenty-five miles - which carried anything that met her specifications. We had to do a bit of research first, though, and ended up logging more kilometers than we expected to before we finally arrived at his establishment in Sorrento Valley. The first place we checked was a bike shop which shall remain anonymous (except for its location) in Mission Hills. The only employee present (it was a Sunday, to be fair) suggested Continental Gators, which have enough protection for city riding, and at a reasonable price. Unfortunately, due to a prior commitment, we didn't have enough time to have the tires mounted that afternoon - which turned out to be a blessing in disguise, because, after looking up some information that evening, I discovered that Continental doesn't manufacture the Gators in the size (700x45, not too common) that my gal needed - an important detail which was somehow overlooked during her conversation with the employee. A couple of days later we tried our luck at another bicycle emporium - this one in the College area - which shall remain anonymous as well (except that its name would be at the end of any alphabetical listing). This time we asked about Armadillos, since she rides a Specialized product (an Ariel, to be specific), and had had them previously on some of her other two-wheeled conveyances. But again, size did matter. We went to this particular location because the shop's website indicated that the Armadillos she wanted were available - but only from the warehouse, as it turned out - which was not made clear online. When the sales associate mentioned that he could order those tires, I thought "So could we," and thanked him for his time. In desperation, finally, I typed "good-lookin' kickass bulletproof bicycle tires" into my browser (well, not exactly, but I did widen my search a little) and got the following return: Schwalbe/Marathon/HS420/700x45, which seemed to match my companion's requirements. Then I looked up stores in the area which carry Schwalbe products; narrowed those results by selecting the top level of retailer (based on inventory of the company's merchandise); and filtered for distance, leaving one contestant standing after the smoke cleared - which obviously was Cycle Quest, or I wouldn't be reviewing them right now. I called up, a hard-bitten bicycle tire research specialist by now, and prepared myself for the usual shuck and jive, but Eric surprised me by saying "Come on down - we have four of 'em in stock." I carefully asked the question I now know to ask every time, which was "Did you mean in the warehouse, or physically present at your store?" He answered me patiently, as if speaking to an idiot child, "I mean here on the premises." I was so excited I offered to pay over the phone before anybody else could buy them out from under me, but he laughed and said, "Don't worry - they aren't going anywhere between now and tomorrow." So, after several months of steady riding through a number of different environments, my significant other rated these tires: excellent; no problems whatsoever, regardless of terrain. And this from a cyclist who hadn't even heard of Schwalbe products before we started our adventure. The difference between this business and many others is that Eric is not your typical bike shop owner. He's a mature individual who has extensive experience as a touring cyclist; he has an eclectic and affordable selection of merchandise and accessories; he's an interesting conversationalist on any number of topics; and, special bonus! - if you're a railfan, the Amtrak Surfliner and the Coaster pass by on a regular basis about fifty yards away, and slowly, too, as the Sorrento Valley station is just around the corner to the north. As for service, we went to lunch nearby while the tires were being mounted, and upon our return fifteen minutes later, found that not only was the job done, it was done right...miraculously, without the assistance that beer apparently provides at certain locations. In short, you can't lose if you're looking for a good experience in a well-stocked store in a decent area with a proprietor who knows what's happening and isn't there to sell you something you don't need or even want just to satisfy a quota from a manufacturer somewhere in Northern California - know what I mean? Five stars, only because I can't award any more than that. A real pleasure to do business with these people. read more

Absolutely fabulous bike shop. I've been to a lot of bike shops and these guys know their stuff cold. I talked to them forever about touring, test rode a few bikes, and was thoroughly impressed. The owner was very informative about touring based on a cross-country ride he did awhile ago. Since we're traveling, I didn't get to buy the bike I wanted from them since I need a specific build-out of a frame. They had everything dialed in and were clearly experienced with outfitting a frame, but I unfortunately didn't have time. Wish I could have given them my money, they deserve it. Great selection, lots of knowledge, and just a solid experience overall! read more

Got a flat on todays ride, thank goodness this shop is open on Sundays which saved todays spoiler. Eric was so kind that he let us use his tools and pump to change a flat and also knowledgable about touring bikes. There is not a lot of specific touring bikes shops around town and this one is definitely a place to visit. Great people, quality equipment and phenomenal customer service! Cheers Eric :) read more

This is a great bike shop! No high-pressure salesmen with attitude, or corporate generic product here. You'll see bikes you've never seen before. All sorts of niche and hybrid varieties of touring, fat tire and "adventure" bikes. Some great deals could be had here. I got a great deal. Repairs are reasonable. Tune-ups are free when it's a bike that you've bought there! Best of all Eric the owner is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We need more bike shops like this! read more

This is the best bike shop I have found in the area, by a mile. If you need service, call them first. My son's bike needed a derailleur adjustment. The other shops I contacted were going to make this a week-long engagement, and it was a relief to get it out of the way in a couple of minutes. Friendly, supportive, knowledgeable service. Also, the other places I called had recordings and voice-mail trees. I dread coming into a shop and getting the snob treatment, and you know whatever you need, they're going to charge $100 or more. Cycle Quest is the polar opposite. They were glad to see me and start a business relationship. I may take my other bike there next week, because the experience was so easy and pleasant. Seriously, if you go anyplace else, you're missing a great opportunity. read more
