The better perhaps the best bike shop in San Diego. I live closer to Trek in La Mesa - it's crap. Plebeian accessories for average people who like bikes. Service is slow, staff is not nearly as friendly. Cal Coast Bicycles crushes it's competition. Not by fierce sales numbers, but by accessory quality, (ergon, one, sram x01), bike quality, (ibis, santa cruz), team's friendliness, and the perks you get when you buy a bike here. SC and Ibis are $$$$. I dropped $6k on my SC Blur C. However, with any purchase you get 15% off all accessories and apparel for 12 months, and unlimited standard tuneups for the lifespan of your bike. Parking lot is slim but it's worth parking around the block and taking a walk. Cal Coast will have my business from age 38-whenever I die. Amazing spot.

Aaron, Aurora, & Gilbert were all awesome to work with. I am new to the mountain bike world and all three over several occasions and a period of a few weeks of shopping were very helpful. They were able to answer any question I had and make sure I ended up on the bike that was right for me. Attached is a picture of my Ibis Ripmo Af that I picked up yesterday. I went from Cal Coast bicycles straight to the trails! Thank you CCB, 'll see you all soon!

Happy Biker - thanks Cal Coast!

I was in need of an MTB in June of 2021. Cal Coast just happened to have the perfect bike for me in-stock at the time (I was hard pressed to find a bike anywhere during the pandemic). We took care of most of the transaction over the phone - they asked me for my measurements and all the measurements off of the bike I already owned so they could do the build to my size specifications. They had a quick turn-around and were even early with the completion. I bought an Ibis Ripmo and still love it. It was just about perfect from the day I picked it up. I've made a few adjustments the past two years, but from the get go they nailed it for me. (The only thing ALL of the bikes shops need is a knowledge of women's bike seats. Riding more than a few miles on the "really nice [mens] seat" that came with my build was awful. Google it ladies - game changer when you've got the right seat for your sitz bones - and I am NOT talking about a big padded seat.)

I bought a Giant Explore E from Cal Coast a couple months ago. Since then, I've stopped in twice. The first time was for free adjustments after riding 14 times and the second was to tell them how awesome my new bike is. Although they still follow Covid Protocol, they get you in and out fast and are really helpful, friendly and genuinely want you to enjoy your ride. They're also great at listening to you and making recommendations that are actually useful. When I stopped in for the adjustment, I mentioned I had had a flat. I can't think of his name, but he recommended I buy a canister of GUP tire sealant, which I did. Well, I just rode Distance (that's my bikes name :) up to San Onofre State Beach and I woke up the next morning to a flat tire. I got the GUP out and just like that my tire was fixed, filled and ready to go. I didn't buy the bike lock he recommended last time, but I plan to soon. Their prices seem reasonable especially since smaller shops need to markup their products. GUP is actually $1 less through Cal Coast vs Amazon and it's nice to support a local business that pays taxes here and provides jobs. They threw in a water bottle cage when I purchased my bike. This review is about the shop, but my bike, wow! Love it. If you used the battery conservatively, you can go for miles and miles and hours and hours. I highly recommend both: the bike and Cal Coast Bicycles. I don't see myself buying through any other bike shops.

This business is doing cyclists right. I had a bike sent there to be built. They put it together flawlessly and completely understood my aesthetic bent. Customer service was very good, and everyone there was so knowledgeable. If you live in San Diego, GO HERE. They will treat you right.

Awesome bike shop! Got myself an Ibis Ripmo way ahead of schedule. Great communication and customer service from Aaron.

Just horrible, unfriendly, service. The excuse is we aren't set up to allow people into the shop. I choose to shop else where!

Ask the Community - Cal Coast Bicycles

    Cost of bicycle tune up?

We got full tune-ups on two bikes which included some new parts for one of the bikes. I believe our total was around $230.

I was envisioning myself in bed to read, nap, and scroll on my phone but Gavin had other ideas. He enjoyed the breaks in the room but wanted to do things. I don't blame him. He noticed this place as we were walking to get lunch earlier. We ended renting a surrey. It's meant for 2, both would need to pedal but the left side had the real steering wheel. Even when it was Gavin's turn to "drive," I still spun the dummy wheel though I knew it served no purpose. It was instincts. The path we took was along the waterfront which is the only path allowed. It was difficult to maneuver because there were a lot of people and a lot of people that are inconsiderate, too. Like a family of 6 walking side by side? Who are your parents that never taught you basic manners?! Service was nice. They hold your ID until the rental is returned. Gavin had fun. A helmet is mandatory for kids under 18 (free). All you pay is the rental for the bike itself. I'm not sure when will be our next cruise but we will definitely try this again but early in the morning so we can bike freely w/o people.

I don't know the guys name but he was a young guy and he was working at 10 AM on a Wednesday. Highly recommend if you are getting off of a cruise and want to just hang out in San Diego for the day.
