A couple months ago I helped my fiancé purchase her first road bike at UC Cyclery and both of us could not be happier with the experience. The sales person was very friendly and knowledgeable and he made the process very easy. The bike purchase came with free lifetime tuneups which was a huge selling point. We just took her bike in for her first tuneup and I must say that the mechanic was just as friendly as the sales person. When I'm ready to upgrade from my current bike I will be purchasing it from the guys at UCC. read more

Nice selection at this store but horrible customer service. I wanted to exchange a helmet I bought here but never wore but their sales rep said that they couldnt exchange it due to the fact that he thought the straps "were damp from wear" after looking at it for five seconds. He then told me he couldnt process exchanges for "worn" items and walked straight to the back. Dont come to this shop as they dont follow their 30 day return and wxchange policy and treat customers unreasonably. read more

Even though I've never bought a bike from UC Cyclery, they've always provided quick, reasonably priced service and someone to shoot the breeze with about bikes. read more

I bought my bike at this shop a while back. All of their stuff is really good quality. The only thing is that they are a bit pricey. The bikes usually range between $700 - 5000. So it can accommodate any need but don't come in expecting anything cheap. read more

I love this bike shop. Went in recently for a new road bike and Jessica was very knowledgeable on everything and super friendly. She helped me find exactly what I needed, while enjoying the entire experience. Also, they have lifetime tune-ups included with a bike purchase! I highly recommend it. read more

Bought a bike online and had no idea what was going on. Edwin there was very helpful and got everything set up for me. Everything was great except the parts and service were a little pricey. Overall recommended. read more

Recently bought a new road bike at U C and am very satisfied with my purchase. Edwin was extremely friendly and helpful in getting me set up with everything I needed. Made me feel welcome and encouraged me to return as much as needed for anything from tips/advise to free tune ups. Would recommend to anyone. Thank you Edwin! I love the bike and will be back shortly for my first tune up. read more

The specialists at UCC made sure that I was 100% satisfied with my new bike, its fitting, color and style. I went in several times for a tweak on the saddle adjustment or handle bar height and they were always available to quickly make the change and I was out the door again. Dave, the owner is accomodating and fair. We want a bike shop we can count on with high integrity and knowledge and UCC is THE BEST in SD county. Thanks guys! read more

Bought my bike here last month, my first bike in 14 years so I was totally behind in the developments and technological advances of bikes nowadays. I was helped by Dennis who was very knowledgeable and helpful in dealing with a total novice like me. He explained a lot of things but didn't try to push the sale on me. He had the patience to go through basics with me and I'm thankful for that since I did not feel at all uncomfortable that I was a total beginner. Since my bike purchase, I've been back for my bike fitting and once again was helped by Dennis. He spent an hour and a half with me before the store opened teaching me how to fix a flat and once again was very patient. He also helped me out in picking out my other bike necessities. I would suggest making an appointment beforehand or avoid going on a weekend, the staff gets really busy during these times. read more

We recently had a great experience purchasing my 6 year old daughter's bike here. Edwin was very knowledgeable in helping us select a bike and the pricing is very competitive. They were accommodating when we selected a color that was not already build; the guys in the shop put it together within an hour so that we could leave with the exact bike we wanted. And our daughter loves her new bike, thank you, UC Cyclery! read more

As a complete bike noob, I was hearing some clicking sounds on my bike (I did not purchase the bike from here). Since I live close to UCCyclery, I went to get the clicking sounds looked at. The guy in the repairs section was very helpful and he fixed the sound at the same time offering helpful suggestions. And he did it for free! Every time I have been to the shop, all the guys there have been very polite and helpful. Great experience so far. read more

I got my first road bike here back in October and love it! Edwin especially has always provided really fast and friendly service. I've gotten my bike serviced and added accessories and have been pleased with each purchase. Would definitely recommend UC Cyclery! read more

Amazing customer service--extremely courteous staff. Funny thing, I've never purchased anything from them. On two occasions over a span of 3 years, I asked them to inflate several exercise balls for me. They did so with a helpful attitude and would not accept any money for this service. Most recently, I came in on a busy Saturday and they were happy to help anyway (thanks Chris). As a result of this consistently awesome service, I have referred my friends to UC Cyclery. When I'm ready to buy anything related to cycling, I'm coming here, no doubt. They have earned and deserve my business. Thanks again UC Cyclery!! read more

The service department here is awesome, excellent customer service. We stopped in to have my derailer looked at since I nicked it on a minor fall. We didnt even buy our bikes here and they still took the time to help and educate us as we are new to the sport. The one guy with glasses really took the time to help us understand how all of our settings should be, tips on trails, etc... I feel a lot more prepared for our next ride! read more

Sent my bike in for tune up. They tensioned the rim way too tight and ended up with a cracked rim. They refused to admit their fault and told me "it's bad luck" read more

I recently decided to get a bike, and after much online searching realized I needed to go to an actual store. I stopped by a few, and then ended up at UC Cycle. I was assisted by Dave and Charles, and ended up spending quite a bit of time with Charles. He was so patient with ALL my questions, and test riding. I ended up ordering a bike. After it came in, he made sure it was fitted just right, and answered ALL my questions again. I would totally recommend this shop, super helpful, and the prices are fair. read more

OMG OMG! RUDE....Stop by the bike shop to get an estimate to clean the chain and rear sprocket for my bicycle. I wasn't ready to hear $300.00 to do it... I couldn't believe it I had to ask again....The older guy with light brown hair was a total %#*@ read more

Dropping my daughter back at school. Her bike needed a little work. UC Cyclery staff was friendly, helpful and turned her repair around quickly. They performed the small repair with no upsell, and completed some safety adjustments as well. These guys are great. read more

This place is absolutely great. My first bike was bought from UC Cyclery 17 years ago when they were on Govenor Dr and I've been going their since. I've been in with all kinds of random questions (usually not buying all that much stuff) ranging from what rack to buy for my car (2002 mazda protege5... very few racks work) to trying to find the perfect sadle, etc. I walked in today to buy a pedal wrench and needed a bike box to ship my bike back to ny. They gave me the box for free, as well as gear to protect my forks, and walked me thru the best way to pack it so that it will get there relitively unscathed and they are really patient and generous with their time. My dad needed a new helmet an they have a trade in policy. In exchange for his old helmet they knocked $10 off the new one. They took a look at my bike for free and recommended some fixes I could make. I have had multiple great experiences with them and would go back in a heart beat. When I've finally saved up enough cash for a new bike I'll most likely go here. read more

We had an amazing experience. We had a knowledgeable sales associate named Dennis. He wasn't out to sell us stuff we didn't need, or that were more expensive. It just seemed like he wanted what was best for us, even if the sale wasn't quite as high. It makes such a difference being able to trust someone and know that your in good hands when making such big purchases. He also spent a good deal of time with us. We shopped around and compared prices and they were comperable to other places. read more

the wrenches are condescending, which is quite annoying especially when you try to explain the problem and you know a thing or two about bikes, and they make a point to make it clear they are better than you. I now do all of my repairs myself. Most of the stuff is way, WAY overpriced, and the services they provide are rather minimal. A simple bolt that cost 50 cents at any hardware store they charge $3 for. They will put a crappy Tiagra derailleur but charge as if it was an Ultegra. I like to support LBS, but from now on will go with another store instead. In the past I have purchased a lot of stuff there, including full bike for my wife, parts and accessories, as well as doing repairs there, no more. Horror story about ordering through them: I ordered a pair of shoes through them on Saturday, two weeks ago - they didn't have them in stock in right size - I knew my size EXACTLY, and have another pair of identical shows at home, so no special "LBS services" were needed and I could have easily ordered on amazon or any other online store, save the markup and have it delivered at my door for free in 2 days, but decided to go through UC Cyclery and support my local bike store. I am told the shoes will be there on Wednesday, 4 days delivery - because they are authorized dealer, I guess not bad. I am asked to put down 20% of the price, but also offered to pay full price up front - which I happily do. Wednesday, no call. Thursday - nothing. I stop by the store on Friday - they look up my order, no shoes. Maybe FedEx will deliver them that day. Sunday I am in that parking lot for another reason, so I stop by. After waiting around for good 20 minutes and going through two different store clerks, no shoes, still. Monday is labor day, but surely they will arrive Tuesday - they will call me. Tuesday, no call. Wednesday late afternoon I call them. Still no shoes, the clerk finds it strange, but they will "track it for me", and give me a call in an hour or so. It's now Thursday, 12 days after I paid up in full, and I have no idea what happened - no calls were returned, and the story is still not over. I expect to be calling and going in person again, and probably won't get my shoes until next week, at least. Mistakes like that happen, but staff have to be able to figure it out, take responsibility and fix it. From now on, I will be doing business elsewhere - at B&L Bikes, TREK Superstore or Performance from now on. Or simply order online. read more

I am a long time customer of UC Cyclery and I would never go anywhere else! The staff is so knowledgeable and incredibly helpful that a cyclist would be hard pressed to find a better shop. I have purchased 3 highly customized bikes from them and they went the extra mile to truly make the bikes unique...and, for me, very, very pink! Steve and Bob did a fantastic job in scouting out all things pink for my first ever mountain bike. From the pink flower breaks to a shiny pink chain to custom pink stickers, no detail was overlooked to make my bike truly special. Many thanks to them for all their help and I also have to say a big thank you to Dave for running such a wonderful shop. Keep up the great work!! read more

They've really improved over the last years. Nothing but positive vibes and wonderful, personal, proper, and fast service! Prices may seem expensive, but this is not unique to UCC. So cannot really fault them for that. I go in quite often, so making friends and being casual helps breed a more positive experience in the long-run. Try it, promise it won't hurt in the least. They're quite good. All in all, really happy to have them nearby. read more

Dave is top notch ! U.C. Cyclery is a great place to shop. The staff is knowledeable and fun. Plus, the SDBC rides starts near his shop and they have provided many cool services for many people before and after ride. Thanks Dave ! read more

Was shopping for a road bike for my 10 year old and they spent 45 minutes with us trying to dial in the fit on a small Specialized Dolce. They even swapped the rear cassette and stem, put him on a trainer and did a fit kit check. We had even rung up the sale. Then toward the end of the fitting their fit expert Hank took a look at my sons stand over height. He felt it was too close...my son was right on the top tube. He recommended against buying the bike even though they had no real alternative to offer us. We ended up getting a refund a left without a bike. Now let me ask you...how many shops would spend that much time fitting a 10 year old on a road bike only to let the sale walk out the door? That takes a lot of integrity and honesty. I can't speak to the others on Yelp who had negative experiences but I think that was really outstanding (though of course the first sales guy should have seen the stand over height and steered us from the bike). Regardless, if that is how seriously they will treat a 10 year old for an $800 bike, imagine how they will treat you. Other pluses: lifetime tuneups for bikes bought there; willing to re-fit my 10 year old again later (had we bought the bike) once my son switched to clip less pedals. Cons: seem a bit more expensive on some items though I haven't comparison shopped too closely. My sons mountain bike tune up was $75, which I thought was a bit steep. Also, only carry Specialized, though I personally love that brand. read more

After I decided to buy a bike for mostly commuting, as well as some racing, I checked out a few shops around before deciding to go with UC Cyclery because the staff were helpful and knowledgeable. Although the bike was more expensive than I anticipated on paying, I feel confident that the quality is extremely high. Edwin hooked me up with great shoes and additional accessories, without being pushy as a salesman. My overall experiences with UCC was great because on my first visit I was only there to look around and the staff were friendly and extremely educational without pushing all of their products on me. I did more looking around and eventually came back because I felt confident that I was getting both great service and a great bike. read more

Went in to buy a road bke, closest place to me. Not sure why they're getting so much hate here...strange. My experience was pretty easy, they were really helpful throughout buying the bike, there is an asian girl that is super friendly and keeps you occupied while you wait for buying/fixing your bike. They stayed late to build my bike I wanted and were pretty knowledgeable with everything involved. I got a good deal on a new carbon frame bike, Edwin helped me out, real nice guy and real knowledgeable. People seem to complain about money on here, but it's biking it's cheaper than car repairs, what's the problem? I'd go back again to buy a bike. read more

Miguel is a hero. About 8 months ago I started to develop huge pain in both my knees when riding after having it fit at a competing bike shop. After about an hour and a half here having the fit meticulously analyzed and restructured, I can ride completely pain free. He managed to accomplish in an hour and a half what 8 months of painful physical therapy and self help had been unable to solve. I cannot understate how professional, meticulous, and efficient the staff at this bike shop are. If I were not moving soon, I'm sure I would only use this bike shop in the future. 5+ stars, you'd be a fool to go anywhere else. read more

The bad news, my Specialized mtn bike was stolen. The good news, I got to shop for a new bike. Edwin was very helpful in finding my new ride, and I am very happy with my decision based on his advice. He answered all of my questions and helped work a great deal that I was happy with. My only ding is that I had their service department set my tires up tubeless and I had to take them back in because the bead wasn't sealed, but I think this is somewhat common and I don't fault them for it. This is the second bike I've purchased from UCC, and I have always been happy with their sales staff and service department. They will price match any other shop and give you free basic tuneups for life. Thanks guys! read more

The sale staff has been great and very helpful. I have been in a number of times since my original purchase in the Spring. Came in to the store today with a flat tire. Mitchell was very helpful teaching me how to change a flat tire so I can fix it by myself out on the road next time. I would highly recommend this shop. The staff is very friendly and willing to help or teach me what I don't know. read more

I recently bought a new road bike (Specialized Tarmac SL4) from UC Cyclery this week, and I bought the same model from them 5 years ago. The sales staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and buying my bikes from them was a stress-free experience. I ride with SDBC and the way that they support the riders during the weekly rides speaks volumes about their dedication to the cycling community. They're a perfect example of why you should support your LBS. Shout out to Edwin for helping me pick a bike, and Miguel, for the bike fitting. Thanks! read more

This was a great bike store and Edwin was very helpful! He wasn't a pushy sales person he truly cared about us making the best purchase and made everything an easy choice. The store had many different price ranges and choices. There is a friendly atmosphere compared to other bike stores and it has a great location. They personally helped you and even had a trainer so they can fit you for your bike. It's also a great local business to support compared to something like Trek. read more

Second time renting at this place and they have definitely surpassed my expectation. I rented a bike last minute for my birthday weekend and I was able to get a perfect size with a Specialize Tarmac. Called in and spoke with Dave and he was very professional, helpful and courteous. He even helped me get fitted and I was in and out of there within 20 minutes. He also gave us good directions to get to the trail along the pacific coase beach ride. I must say the place is rather organized and the staff were very friendly. I will rent from them again everytime I come to visit in the area. No issues with the bike as well and the price is definitely affordable, cheaper than other cycling stores or other rental bike places. Great Job and I am 100% Satisfied. Rock Chalk! read more
