We decided to go with ABF for price. Pretty inexpensive but you do need to load or hire loaders yourself. They answered my million questions in quick. They called for drop off no issues. Showed us how to do what we needed with the truck. I recommend lots of e track straps (found mine cheapest at myteeproducts.com ) or rope. Tie or strap in sections to help prevent shifting (it is a truck). We used rope across the top and bottom sections and straps across the middle and switched where we put straps in next sections. I got cargo nets but was not happy with them. We loaded a fully loaded 10 x 10 storage and used up 8'. Then for the 1 bedroom furniture and used up 15' . The rest of the apt used 22'. Putting bulkhead doors on after all this and maneuvering the 150lbs ladder after moving and lifting all day - that was not fun (get fresh arms to help). Will update after it gets delivered read more

We moved from California to Canada. I called U-Pack and they offered me choices to bring my items to their depot or they could come to my home. We decided to have them bring the trailer to our home but I went to their depot to view the truck. I was given a tour and explanation of the process. Very nice people. The truck was delivered as promised and picked up exactly as promised. They kept me informed along the way. They did everything as promised. We used their ABF trailer option, which was cheaper than Upack's Relocubes and a lot cheaper than Pods. The 28' trailer was delivered on time in CA and arrived early in Tennessee. We packed it ourselves and almost everything made it intact. (That was due to poor packing not the shipper) When I have another opportunity to use a mover again, Upack will be my first call. The entire experience with ABF was riddled with issues and forced compromises with minimal compensation and no apology or admission from the forklift driver that damaged our ReloCube, caused a delay in our leaving our starting location, introduced a great deal of stress to the move, and added lost time where we had to unbox and review all contents of our cargo when much of the cargo was meant to go straight into storage after the move. The delivery of the ReloCube was several hours late and resulted in adding an additional day to our move. When the forklift driver arrived to pick up the ReloCube, I watched as he ran the ReloCube into some low hanging telephone lines. The forward momentum of the forklift met the resistance of the lines and pushed the cube straight back into the top corners of the forklift. This resulted in a violent impact that put two large gouges in the doors, with the right side piercing a hole in the door. Additionally, the lines were creased where the two corners of the cube made contact, as seen in the photos. The metal bar in the center of the door was bent inward, the outside door was bent and pushed behind the back door. Obviously a large impact with a lot of force that is highly likely to have damaged items in the cube and is far beyond any shifting or impact that anyone would deem normal for transit. I yelled at the driver to stop as he drove away like nothing happened. When I confronted him about it he proceeded to deny that anything happened and tried to blame the damage on me. This resulted in a heated argument on the street and a call to the local office and eventually the corporate office. The driver continued to deny fault, lie to the office about the details, called me a "son of a bitch", said that the people he works with are incompetent and we shouldn't trust what they say, and proceeded to belittle my brother and I and say that our "plastic toys" are fine and aren't damaged and that we are overreacting. In the end, we were forced into two options of proceeding with the move. neither of which were good options. We were offered a meager discount and left to continue the move not knowing the condition of our cargo. The driver's behavior is not acceptable for any company offering any service ever. People make mistakes. That isn't the issue. Not owning up to the mistake and insulting and belittling your customer is absolutely inexcusable. Defending an employee that behaves that way is equally inexcusable. My advice to anyone still choosing to use this service is to document everything and watch your items at pick up and drop off. Pack your items extremely well. The fact that we packed everything well and strapped everything down so well is likely the only reason our items survived this incident. read more

Moving out of California is not an easy proposition. Many truck rental companies charge 10x more to move FROM California than TO California, moving companies may or may not show up, and almost EVERYONE tries to capitalize on the large number of people leaving the state. Except U-Pack. I had a great experience with U-Pack. I used 2 - 28' trailers, which arrived on time, as promised. The rate was completely reasonable, and everyone I spoke with was friendly and helpful; from the initial sales person, to the Orange County dispatcher (Marco), to those in Nashville who worked so hard to make things go smoothly (Sheri, Chris, and Casey ... thank you!). With one exception, everything went by the numbers, which was very much appreciated. The only hiccup was once we arrived in Nashville. Because there are simply so many people moving here, there weren't enough drivers to deliver our trailers to our home right away. The trailers actually arrived in just a few days, but they were (frustratingly) stuck 5 miles away as we awaited a local driver to deliver them. The total wait was a bit more than a week. That being said, this wasn't the fault of anyone in the Nashville terminal. They simply needed more drivers. And to their credit, the people in Nashville went out of their way to minimize the disruption caused by the delay. For example, they helped me get into one of the trailers to retrieve some plants that would have otherwise died, and when drivers were available I was first on the list for delivery. Every move has a bit of drama. It's just how moves are. In my eyes, as far as U-Pack is concerned, this one was a piece of cake. If you're thinking of using them I have two recommendations: 1) Reserve early and make sure you read the paperwork. For example, you'll see that they only work on weekdays and you need to call one business day ahead of time for trailer pickup when loaded, etc. 2) Communicate. I didn't wait for them to call me. I called to verify delivery dates, location updates, etc. I had no problems with their communications, but I figured these were my belongings and I wasn't going to have something go wrong because of some minor mix-up. Bottom line: I highly recommend U-Pack (ESPECIALLY if you're leaving California :) ). read more

Had a great experience with u-pack. I got 2 shipping cubes from LA to Seattle. I drove up, and it took 3 days. The cubes arrive 2 days after I did. Everything was in perfect condition. All the drivers who picked up the cubes were super cool, on time, and pleasant to deal with. I read a few bad reviews about shipping in the back of rigs, so I decided on getting the cubes instead. I reserved months prior to the surgery of people exiting Caifornia and there were not problems with honoring the prices at reservation even though costs have skyrocketed since. I recently moved from Southern California to Denver, Colorado. I did quite a bit a research before landing on U-Pack. Let's face it...moving sucks and many moving companies suck...there are delays, lack of empathy during an extremely stressful time, expensive, etc. U-Pack made the process 100% better and easier. Every interaction I had with anyone with their organization (including ABF) I received friendly, informative and courteous service. This goes a long way when you're dealing with a huge life change. The directions of the entire process were made clear prior to signing anything. Even after signing, they had paperwork that clearly outlined timing estimations, phone numbers and who to call when. How they price is straightforward too, which I also really appreciated. They have two options, you can use their cubes or a freight truck. We went the freight truck route, as recommended, since we were going to have more stuff. What they do is they drop off a 28' truck and you pack ("u-pack") your belongings into the truck yourself. You initially get quoted for how many feet in the truck you'll take up..if you are over or under, you get money back so you truly only pay for what you use. Since you're packing a freight truck and the remainder of the truck is filled up with freight (not waiting on other people who also might be moving a simliar direction) the turnaround times are exponentially faster. Estimated delivery is 3-5 business days; ours ended up taking 4 days. Super easy process and highly recommend U-Pack. Notes: You either need to enlist friends to help load/unload or hire someone to help with that process. You should also invest in a few straps to secure your belongings. We bought four and were able to safely secure everything (we used 9' of the truck). read more

However, be aware that when they drop a semi trailer off to be loaded it is 4 feet high and you'll use a ramp they provide, which is very good but a lot of trips up the ramp to fill a trailer. Great Experience. Moved from California to New York. U-Pack was the way to go for us. Trailer was delivered as arranged. Easy to understand packing instructions with a ton of YouTube videos helping describe the process. Ended up using the whole trailer. Their loading ramps are not connected to the truck. Normally, you would load your items, install a bulkhead and push the ramp into the remaining space and lock the outer door. We had to install the bulkhead and leave the ramp in front of our garage till a second truck came and retrieved it. Once our loaded trailer arrived near our new location, they called to arrange delivery. Had to let them know to also deliver a loading ramp, which they did with a second truck. Everything went smooth. Good communication throughout the process. The drivers were courteous and on time. If you are a do it yourself-er, this is the way to go. I had an overall good experience with U-Pack. The reason this review is four stars is that there are two pieces of information the U-Pack representatives I spoke with failed to mention. 1. There are service areas and if your delivery location is outside of one of these areas you will pay an extra fee 2. Someone must be present to sign for your Relo-cubes. I used U-Pack when I moved from California to Minnesota and it was a great experience. My empty ReloCube was delivered right on time and the driver was friendly and helpful. It was delivered in Minnesota two days earlier than the earliest estimated delivery time, and I was completely blown away when the guy who delivered the cube offered to help unload it when he saw how little was packed in it. I think he was having pity on a clueless California girl unloading the cube in the snow, and with a storm coming. He was a HUGE help and it was great to have the cube removed less than an hour after it was delivered. My only criticisms I have about my experience are that 1) the instructions in the moving plan I was given had me calling after the cube was packed to have it picked up, but the dispatcher was adamant that I call when it was delivered, and 2) the lock requirements in my move plan said I needed a lock with a 2" shank. When I was offered a lock made specifically for the cube by U-Pack, a lock with a standard 1" (or perhaps a 1.5") shank was delivered. I already HAD a lock of that shank length. It would have been helpful if the instructions I was given in my move plan were consistent with what I actually needed to do. Those small issues aside, everyone I worked with at U-Pack for my move, reserving my cube, changing my reservation, delivering and picking up, and delivering and taking away the cube were all very courteous and helpful. The actual cost of the move was exactly what was estimated, and everything got where it was supposed to be on or before estimated times. This was a great moving experience. Well, ok, like any moving experience it was exhausting and stressful, but U-Pack made it so much more simple. If and when I move again, I am absolutely using them again. read more

We moved from California to Colorado and had one little glitch. The driver dropped the trailer in our driveway as opposed to the street. At the last minute, we had to call and have the trailer moved to the street so that the movers could pack it. Otherwise, it would have tipped over from the slant of of the driveway as the movers started to pack it. Luckily they were able to get a driver out to move the trailer out to the street within a couple of hours. If it were not for this issue, UPack would have received 5 stars. The value for the service received was awesome. Customer service was awesome. We paid an additional $300 to get a guaranteed delivery date. This was money well spent.
