Recently I went on an IKEA shopping spree and purchased three items: a TV unit (BRIMNES - 70 7/8 in x 16 1/8 in x 20 7/8 in), an armchair (EKERÖ), and a 2-drawer chest (MALM - 15 3/4 in x 21 5/8 in). Unfortunately, all IKEA items require assembly and I didn't have the time or energy to put those three pieces together myself. While IKEA has partnered with TaskRabbit to help assemble furniture pieces, I wasn't comfortable trusting amateur assemblers and decided to search on Yelp. [Quote and scheduling]: I initially made a quick call to OC Assembly (founded in 2012), but no one picked up. However, the owner, Andy, texted me back within 15 minutes and I asked him for a quote. He requested pictures of the items or links to their webpages and I sent him the IKEA product pages for all three pieces. I received a quote of $150 for the entire job and was pleasantly surprised by the reasonable pricing. The OC Assembly website actually posts pricing information which is super transparent compared to many other furniture assembly companies that do not provide estimated prices on their website. I texted Andy over the weekend and was able to schedule a time for the following Wednesday. [Process]: Andy arrived slightly late but kept me informed. He was friendly, professional, and came fully prepared with all the necessary tools. He assembled the armchair in about 15 minutes without using power tools, the 2-drawer chest in 20 minutes with power tools, and the TV unit in roughly 1 hour with power tools. [Conclusion]: Overall, Andy was responsive and efficient. In hindsight, I probably could have assembled the armchair myself. There have been so many times when other contractors have not bothered to communicate and confirm with me the placement of permanent fixtures before carving a giant hole into freshly drywalled spaces -- this can obviously be really frustrating, but we never once had this issue with Andy. He is incredibly respectful and always double checks. If we were ever indecisive about where to install something, Andy would politely offer feedback or simply patiently wait for a final decision. Andy from OC Assembly and his crew helped me assemble a baby dresser and king bed on two separate occasions at my home. I waiting until his second visit to my house to rate his service. Both times he was very careful and his team always wore masks and booties when entering the house which I appreciated. The work they did was exceptional on both occasions. I also appreciated that they helped carry my boxed furniture from the garage into the house. They cleaned up very well after assembling the furniture including removing the boxes from the house.
