This was one of the worst experiences I have ever had. Victoria Phillips, lied and oversold miles to me in addition to taking a higher deposit, she lied on a one way trip to say that I could get a cash deposit back or they would mail a check to my address and then put my address as 123 st. I've been back and forth with Uhaul and had to find a new location for drop off and it's been 3 hours of back and forth. This has been a horror story. Dessi was the manager I spoke with on the phone and if I could give her 5 Stars I would. She was informative, polite and patient. My problem started with the insurance. I paid for the damage coverage that misleads the renter to believe that no matter the scratch, dent or damage, if you pay the fee, you are covered. WRONG. When I got the van it was a brand new van, this is where the problem continued. NEVER rent a brand new van because they will find a reason to charge you. It's IMPOSSIBLE to get a new van, move any gear and not scuff something up. When the van was returned, Dessi found a small 2" scratch on the back door on the inside. That's when I got slapped with a $150 charge. But wait, I got the damage insurance, I'm good, right? WRONG. There is a $150 deductible for ANY damage and since it was a brand new Van, yup, that's $150 for that scratch. Again, Dessi was very polite, informative and patient with me. I respect that a lot, thanks. She offered a lower price than the deductible, but after finding out I was already going to pay $219+ for a two day rental, I decided to just take them to small claims court. I will be filling right away. Moving forward, I'll won't rent from them again and will not take a brand new van off the lot. Message to the owner of this business: Remove the $150 charge and this post gets 5 Stars, I edit out the bad parts and we both walk away happily, not just you trying to extort money out of me. Not surprised to see this place with 2.5 stars. I had the pleasure of working with this location at least 2-3 rentals in the last year. Yesterday they rented me a faulty truck with almost a dead battery and I had to come back and return the truck they gave me, limiting my move time and pushing our move time back. I brought the full rental back within 24 hours of the original rental time. The manager, Jose, was extremely arrogant and rude and I can tell they've had a change in management there recently. The customer service agents working for Jose seem to have also generated his arrogant, "cool guy" attitude. Really just embarrassing that people can be in customer service like this. He replied, "I don't appreciate you going to YELP." Not ONCE did he reply any excuse or accountability for renting me a faulty truck in the first place. I made a reservation for a specific location and my reservation was changed to a new location but UHaul didn't bother to email or call me. So I had to go much farther and pick up a very old, beat-up and unsafe (as the back doors opened multiple times while driving on the freeway) to pick up and then again to return the trailer. After almost 20 years of our company renting from you haul, I'm VERY disappointed and we will be taking our business elsewhere. UHaul did call me after they saw the poor review, however, they tried to justify the trailer. Considering the fact the trailer was unsafe and a hazard on the road, there is no justification for not exoecting their product prior to distribution. Great place to buy a quality gas cylinder and get it filled. I don't like cylinder exchanges and these guys make it possible to keep my own cylinder and not get some piece of junk in the exchange. Also saves a bunch of money on the refills. The place has fast and friendly service. Do not use Poway U-Haul for anything! They are liars, and wont take credit for when they make mistakes. So far, I've spent almost $600. trying to repair my car that they installed the wrong trailer hitch on. This hitch bent the plastics clips apart and broke them on 4 different pieces. Then they refused to take the hitch off. Also, they refused to talk to me when I stopped in and return my calls. Manager Jose Aguilar hung up on me when I asked for an appointment to remove the hitch. I will use the U-Haul on World Trade Center next time and I advise you to do the same. During that time, at least four different employees passed right by me without acknowledging my presence. I had rented a unit in the past from this Poway location *a number of years ago and back then a guy who helped me a lot - who was an Asian guy - was GREAT. So recently I decided to go back for more storage space that I needed. Unfortunately, it took DAYS to get anyone to help me, the server (???) was down or not taking my payment and the website was not showing what actually was available, customer service on the phone kept telling me to talk to the office directly but no one was helpful at all in the office. I repeatedly was talking to the "manager" whose name is Jose but let's just say it's not real American customer service friendly nor was he knowledgeable at all - actually had a smirk on his face while talking and was arrogant and rude. Because of so much trouble online, I had to drive to the location over and over, (3 times over several days) to try to get help and each time the manager, Jose, was there but was giving me info that was not right, nor was he helpful. Very unfriendly, almost smirky while conveying info and actually seems to be kind of a jerk. Finally, finally, after going there and trying for 3 days I got a guy named TOBY ANDERS (an American) who was actually the one who saved my account. One, he provided me with my two locks that the website promised (if the website was actually working) and even said "to put it on his account" in order to help me out despite the other non-helpful employee behind the desk who was signing me up. If it wasn't for *TOBY ANDERS* who is not the manager (even though this is the kind of good customer service representative we need again here in the UNITED STATES), I would not be renting from them ever again. I talked to Mr. Anders later and thanked him profusely for helping me out. What a nightmare this place has become, *except for Mr. Anders. I hope UHAUL hasn't completely sold out but it looks like they are 98% there. Seriously UHAUL you need an American overhaul. Take heed people. read more

He charged us over $400 for a ding in the front window that was already there. And was among other splotches on the window caused by insects or birds. UPDATE 11/27/2019 If I could give them a negative 5 stars I would absolutely do so! I recently had my car in for routine service at Perry Ford of Poway and while up on the rack the service technicians called to notify me of the fact that my hitch was not properly installed pieces were left dangling and wires unsecured. They fixed the issues for me so that I wouldn't have to bother going back to the U-haul place. I'll I live in Poway so giving business back to poway business owners is important to me as a business owner myself but this store has many issues that have been on going for years nothing has changed! I called in last Tuesday to make an appointment to put on a tow package to pull jet skis and the man on the phone said he can book me for Saturday at 1:00pm and would need a credit card number to charge a mandatory fee of $50.00 to order the hitch and wiring for lights. I show up early and find thatwhile my CC wasn't charged the hitch wasn't ordered nor was an appointment made. I was furious as I stayed back from a friends bridal shower in LA to get this hitch placed. I stood in a long line with 2 people working and after 40 min wait time I was helped by the female GM and even then she was walking away to help the other worker with questions which kept me longer then I wanted. They couldn't answer their own phones always being answered by call centers. Steve who is the owner had to stop working on someone's truck hitch to come inside and help. I didn't even know he was the owner when i went to ask him if I was scheduled or if he received a hitch for my vehicle he said IDK go inside they can help you... After 40 min wait I asked the GM to call me with a date and time for the install she said let me check other stores and I'll call you back. Well guess what?? Never heard back !!!! I show up on my move in date only to be questioned if I'm at the correct location? I say yes and show my online reservation. The staff member Jose starts telling me that they don't have this unit here and he doesn't understand how I made the reservation. I tell him no worries , can you please look to see if there is anything nearby that's available today. He continues to give me attitude the entire time and barely talking to me. My bf came in and was behind so he started asking some questions on the situation and both staff members and one was the manager Jose started yelling at him. Literally screaming at him telling him it's not there problem and "it sounds like a personal problem" they were by far the rudest people I have EVER dealt with. DO NOT GO HERE. They screamed at him to get out of their store when all he was doing was asking if they could understand the frustration of the situation. They should not be working anywhere where it requires customer service. They did not resolve anything even though it was completely their fault and on top of that they made the situation 100x worse. Today was my second time renting a trailer from this location. Made a phone reservation the first time and did an online reservation this time. Both times it was very easy to make the reservation. The guys at this location were polite and very helpful. They took care of the office work and were quick when hooking up the trailer to our car and the return was even quicker and easier. "Dessii" or as her official business cards states, Desiree Mcalear, was not of any help to us today. As the general manager of this location you would think she would do something other than "at this point I'm going to refund you, that's what I'm going to do". I made a quote with this location in regards to installation of a tow-hitch 2 weeks ago & 5 days ago called to make the appointment. Upon making that appointment my father was charged $47 in order for U-Haul to actually order the parts. I was emailed a receipt including the date and time of the installation & a description of all that would be included in this installation. Today is the day! Saturday, January 12th, 12:00pm. I show up, first she has me sign an agreement for the wrong vehicle. I had to stop her after she discussed with me a trunk when this isn't a car we are having it installed on it is a truck... ok weird start. But then... basically without any communication to myself she says they don't have the part & they don't know when they will be able to get the part. She provided us no other solutions, seemed to be upset with us even though a phone call to us prior to the installation date would have remedied the situation. Then proceeds to take 20 minutes to issue us a refund while again seeming upset with us. When the phone call would have resolved all of this she claims that other people were supposed to call us when in fact she's the one to state she was handling the situation herself, why didn't she call us? She even told us that this was a partial reservation, she might've used a different phrasing, when in fact I have an email stating my installation date. She claimed that when the phone rings four times it goes to the call center which is why she doesn't know the person who made the original installation appointment. Once again, as a general manager, no matter how upset we may seem, considering the one day my dad has off to get this installed was today, & we had a million other things to do, I believe it was her responsibility to not only address the issue, oh and the fact that we should have received a phone call prior to this date, and done something to alleviate the problem at hand. She sat on the phone without addressing us for at least 15 minutes and it took my father interrupting her to find out what is going on. In my opinion worst customer service I've experienced in a very long time especially coming from the general manager. I will be contacting corporate to make sure this matter is resolved and understood because in my opinion this is unacceptable considering this is has been a two week process and the only phone call to have been made was by me. These people will see me in court. I regret ever doing business with them. They are cunning though. They have a tricky scheme in place where they rent you one of their new vehicles and hastily ask you to confirm through photographs taken at a distance that there is no pre existing damage. Then, once you return the vehicle after one hour in my case they take 30 minutes going over it with a flashlight and point out tiny half inch scratches and blame them on you. Then they will make unauthorized charges on your card for as much as they like without even informing you. If you do visit their dirty run down outdated facility ask for an old truck and take close up pictures of every inch of it. I had been a loyal customer since 2008. This facility has ruined their good reputation and replaced it with feelings of fraudulence, crookedness, underhandedness, unscrupulousness and many more sleezy and disgusting stomach turning feelings. In addition to all of this, they shamelessly engage in the crime of false advertising. The truck itself says $19.95 + mileage and fees but they will charge you $29.95 + mileage and fees. After 3 hours, the incorrect electric was installed and although mistakes do happen, they were closing so I told them I'd be back in the morning so the install could be finished. Came back the next day, they told me the soonest they could finish was in a week and would still be charging me the extra for labor despite their mistake. Find another business to support. In a nut shell, I called the store's local number and was transferred to the call center. The lady that helped me was nice and helpful. She checked availability and set an appointment for me to have my vehicle wired for trailer lights. I went in to the store and was right on time for my appointment. When I talked to the man behind the counter, which by the way happened to be the store owner, he simply replied with "I'm not doing that right now!" I said "excuse me?!" He then proceeded to list off excuses as to why he can't do what I was there for, one of which being that he had to go to lunch. He said you can come back in a couple hours and I'll have someone that can do it for you. So I basically rearranged my day and wasted my time and gas because of this company and the lack of communication between the call center and the store that they are setting the appointment for. I can't speak for everyone but I, like most people, don't have time for this type of incompetence. If you value your time, go somewhere else! read more

Needed a truck in a pinch to get a sofa with chaise from Costco. Called and booked a truck with less than 24 hour notice for pickup time. Called the next day and asked for the truck a few hours earlier and they said, "Come on in!" Got there and they gave me a BRAND NEW GMC Sierra 8 ft. pickup truck with 9 miles on it! Ronald was the guy who helped me - friendly and straightforward, would definitely recommend asking for him. Got the truck, got the sofa, dropped it off, and returned it without a hitch. Easy return process, no hassles. Definitely recommend seeing these guys if you need a moving truck! read more

Kinda surprised to read all these 1-2 star reviews? They must have stepped up the service here as of late because this was the most pain free U-Haul rental I've had ever. I booked my res online ahead of time, and they had her waiting and ready at 9am sharp. Signed 1 short form, wasn't pressured into any unnecessary coverage or moving items and was out the door in less than 10 minutes. My 14 footer had some muscle! Easy to load and drive. The MPG on these isn't the best but that may be an issue for corp. HQ to sort out. Note: Make sure you return the truck with the amt of gas it had in it originally. Otherwise they have to fill it up and you will get charged around 5 bucks/gal. Returning the truck was easy, just dropped off the keys and I was done. This building's been here since at least 1982. I had an excellent experience at this Uhaul. While setting up a reservation thru Uhaul ( 1 800 number ) for Uboxes and movers was an ordeal over the phone , Jose at Poway Uhaul squared things away on his end to perfection! I can't say enough about how helpful everyone had been at Poway Uhaul. Each Uhaul handles the Uboxes in inventory and coordinates with the movers for pick up and drop off of these boxes/ rental of trucks and equipment/ towing accessories ie trailer hitches/ moving trailers/ and all kinds of moving supplies/ locks **Just a heads up ** If there are any sudden changes to movers if you have reserved uboxes or you need to change something on your reservation, it MUST be done online. I learned this the hard way thru repeated calls to the reservation center. The issue is that it is extremely difficult to talk to a person at the movinghelp phone number. I tried for 2 days at 2 hours each day and only once got somewhere when I was passed thru to corporate. Although this was very frustrating, it did not reflect on the great work at Poway Uhaul because that is not the part of what they handle. read more

I just made a very difficult move that was the result of my dad passing away. It was sudden and I had to choose a storage facility with very little time. When I walked in the office, the day I rented my storage unit, there was a long line. I stood and observed the General Manager, Dessii deal with some crabby people. She continued to smile, remained calm and worked through the line one-by-one. When it was my turn, I had many questions. She was able to answer my questions and support my needs. She called the Miramar U-Haul and assisted me in transferring to Poway, as they had larger units available. I would like to give a shout out to Darmikea at Miramar, as she had provided me with similar quality customer service and care. Dessii spent time with me and showed concern for my unique situation. Her customer service was superb which resulted in me reserving my storage unit that very day. When I returned a few weeks later to rent the U Haul truck I had reserved, Dessii provided me and my moving team with the same attention and service. She had supplied me with the MovingHelp website, to find movers to assist me- Brawn and Brains Moving and Packing Services were on that list; they were efficient and worth every dime. The price was wonderful to and I forgot to inspect the new truck but he believed us when we explained that we did not scratch the truck as it had a little scratch. Wish I looked into their reviews before booking to get a hitch installed here... I ordered on-line to get a hitch installed on 6/24, to have it picked up on 7/5(plenty of time) to move the following morning. U-haul first went wrong by not checking around local locations to see if the hitch was in stock. Why would this not be your first thought?! Instead they ordered from Florida, and did not inform me it was coming on GROUND from there! So on 7/4 they call me to tell me it hasn't come in, and because of the holiday, it may or may not arrive Monday. Steve was not apologetic, lacked emotion every time I spoke with him. And he's the one in charge! He has been there far too long apparently because he lacked any interest in providing genuine customer service. So I had to change my hotel reservations, and postpone my move by two days. BUT Monday then came, no phone call. I called three times to check in, as well as called U-Haul corporate center to file a complaint, but they said I needed to speak with Buyers Club who deals with the on-line orders. The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing with these people! They couldn't even find my order! I was livid. I started calling around, and the first store told me if they didn't have the hitch I need, they could see which one does... Are you FREAKING kidding me?!!!! There was a location that had it in stock the entire time? So I postponed my move, waited by the phone and spent an hour 1/2 on the phone with different people all because one idiot didn't think to do this for me in the first place! What makes it even worse, is I go to school on-line, I had a final to do the day I was waiting to get it installed, and because I didn't want to start the test with an allotted time just in case they called and said it had arrived, I ended up not even being able to take it!
