Went in there today about 5 o'clock. The employee was very, very nice and polite. He told us about the different items on the menu and how all the sauces were. I got the fish and my husband got the shrimp and we shared. The fries were the best that we have ever had. I got a little side of coleslaw which was absolutely delicious. After we ordered, we were talking to the employee that they should have like a sample plate. They also have crab balls. And I would have liked to try at all. As much as I wanted to love this place, it was just okay for me. I would love to find a brick and mortar fish and chips shop as good as the On the Hook food trucks since it can be tiresome locating them and chasing them around the valley. So, with that as my bar, I dropped into Ty's Fish & Chips. The good: clean restaurant with friendly efficient service. I love supporting family businesses so that is a plus too. I ordered basic fish and chips with fries - not opting for any of the up-sell sauces. The presentation was simple but thoughtful. I was surprised on my first bite of fish thinking this can't be cod. Turns out they use red snapper. That's just not "fish and chips" fish to me. The fries were just meh. I'm mainly a malt vinegar guy but I sampled the tartar sauce too. Tarter sauce was okay-not too exciting. I'm going to add I have a bone to pick with the vinegar. There is a single, pump-spray vinegar bottle in the restaurant. I just didn't like the idea of having to put my finger on the pump top in between bites as who knows how many others have done the same. I'd rather a packet or a different solution. So, all in all I'd say if you prefer red snapper to cod and my other comments seem too picky to you, go ahead and give them a try. Despite my opinion, I really do wish wish these guys well. Of course there are great alternatives too, including shrimp, crab balls, calamari, and seasonal vegetables if you want to branch out. The dipping sauces are unique and all of them are delicious. The signature tarter sauce appeals to the fish and chips purist while the other options add an adventurous twist. The honey wasabi and miso garlic are my favorites. The appetizers are also good. I recommend the seafood eggroll which comes with the lemon sweet chili sauce. The only other thing to know before you go is that the size of the fish is just a little smaller than what you might see at some other fish and chips spots.
