Automatic four stars because their shaded patio is dog friendly! And this is really a 4.5 out of 5 stars review! Bae, myself, & Coconut have been here twice. Once for dinner and the most recent, brunch. Both times we sat on their dog friendly patio which is just so perfect with the lake in the background. The quick and friendly service was consistent during both visits but I really have to talk about my amazing and perfectly cooked medium rare steak and eggs. I don't know if it was because I was extremely hungry after finishing our walk around the lake, but my Buddha I scarfed down the steak like there was no tomorrow. Pair that with a nice crispy potato dipped in the golden yolk, drool. Bae was debating between the breakfast burrito and chicken fried steak, our server recommended the latter and it did not disappoint. Lake Break will be on our list of routine breakie spots. And you definitely won't feel guilty after eating because you can always walk off the calories after! -Sailor out read more

The service was phenomenal and the ambience fantastic especially since we ate out on the deck. The problem is the FOOD! We spent a lot of money last night with five guests, two bottles of wine and appetizers and entrées and I'm sure the waitress could tell we were not happy since most of the food remained on the plate. Filet mignon should never be well done! The two flat iron steaks were asked to be medium rare and they were well done, the french fries were cold. The pasta that was ordered had too much water in the bottom of the bowl. And while we're talking food...The appetizer of calamari was rubbery. My daughter and I have walked around the lake a few times and your restaurant is the halfway point. We've stopped there with her baby in the stroller and we usually sit and get a starter and a glass of wine or two. Her in-laws were visiting for Australia and it was highly disappointing except for the waitress and the view. As I said, we have been to your place before and had no problem with the small plates, however, the entrées were terrible! We are highly !disappointed! read more

Very well, where do I begin? My girlfriend and I have been to Lake at the Break twice in the last week because we genuinely want to like this place. She lives in the neighborhood, and we think it has the potential to be an amazing spot this summer with a great atmosphere and location. Unfortunately, our experiences so far have been disappointing. Earlier this week, my girlfriend visited with a friend and ordered the charcuterie appetizer. After eating some of it, they noticed visible green mold growing on one of the cheeses. They informed their server, who simply replaced the board but didn't seem particularly concerned, offer to comp the item, or check on them afterward. A couple of hours later, my girlfriend became sick, though fortunately she felt fine by the next day. She tried to brush it off since mistakes can happen. Today, she brought me back hoping for a better experience, but unfortunately it wasn't. We waited about 25 minutes just to receive our drinks. The Diet Coke tasted off, my food order came out incorrectly, and we were given an extra side of sausage that we never ordered. To make matters worse, we were charged for it. We're sharing this feedback because we truly want this restaurant to succeed. The location, neighborhood, and overall concept have so much potential, but the food quality, service, and attention to customer experience need immediate improvement. We hope management takes these concerns seriously because we'd love to become regular customers. read more

I really don't enjoy leaving negative reviews, but unfortunately this ended up being one of the roughest dining experiences we've had in a long time. The place clearly has ambition, and I genuinely hope with time they're able to refine the concept and turn things around. The interior was honestly one of the more confusing restaurant aesthetics I've experienced. It felt like several completely different concepts competing with each other, part trying to be upscale lounge, part trendy fusion spot, part sports bar and none of it really came together cohesively. The mismatched warm and cool lighting, clashing finishes, and overall atmosphere made it feel like the restaurant was trying very hard to create a specific vibe, but it was difficult to tell what that vision actually was. Instead of feeling inviting, the space came across cold and a little uncomfortable and tacky. That said, ambience matters far less than food, and unfortunately the food was the real issue. I ordered the tuna poke bowl, and it was genuinely one of the worst poke bowls I've had, if not the worse I can remember. The rice was undercooked to the point where I was crunching on hard grains throughout the meal. Beyond that, the bowl was overwhelmed with sauce and seasoning to the point where all I could taste was spicy mayo and soy sauce. The avocado was also visibly browning and spotty, and I eventually gave up halfway through. My husband ordered one of the wagyu burgers, and it arrived completely well done and incredibly dry. For a wagyu burger especially, it was disappointing. It ended up being one of the driest burgers either of us can remember having. We tried sharing a bite between the two dishes but the base flavors were oddly similar, being two completely different types of dishes, this was disappointing when it comes to very basic flavor profiles. The menu itself felt a bit as confused as the ambiance. I understand the intention may have been to offer something for everyone, but some of the choices felt disconnected and a bit out of context. More than anything, it felt like the restaurant would benefit from narrowing its focus and really dialing in a smaller number of dishes exceptionally well. A strong first impression matters, and when a guest's first meal misses the mark, it makes it difficult to feel excited about returning to try more. The time to receive food was also quite slow. To be fair, the restaurant was busy, so waiting around 45 minutes for food is understandable. Our waitresses were awesome and incredibly kind and you could tell they were working hard. It was just disappointing for the food to arrive in that condition after such a long wait. I genuinely hope the restaurant figures out its identity and improves the food execution because right now it's difficult to recommend or justify coming back. Based on our limited sample set on an initial experience, it feels like the place is trying a little too hard when it honestly doesn't need to. The neighborhood already loves The Break, and it has long been a big part of Daybreak culture. I think it's great that they're experimenting with new concepts, grateful for restaurants that are willing to share a vision with the community and all the work that goes into creating, but this one currently feels like a bit of a miss in the current state. Understandably it's still relatively new, at the very least, it made for a memorable anniversary dinner story. Wishing the team the best as they continue working through the concept and growing into the space. read more

If you're craving a coastal escape but your yacht is stuck in a Utah snowdrift, **Lake Break** in Daybreak's Northshore is the next best thing--think nautical chic meets "what if a yacht club opened next to a man-made lake in the desert." I ordered what appeared to be their take on **lobster eggs Benedict**, but with a landlocked twist: a golden, flaky croissant base (because why settle for an English muffin when you can have laminated pastry?), topped with a poached egg that's somehow both fluffy and structurally sound, a generous shower of sharp cheddar, and then drowned in a hollandaise so rich and speckled it could double as a luxury body lotion. It was decadent, borderline scandalous, and absolutely delicious. The side salad of peppery arugula, crisp radish, cucumber, and cherry tomatoes provided just enough virtue to keep the guilt at bay--like bringing a kale smoothie to a champagne brunch. The vibe? Immaculate. White tableware gleaming against the bright, breezy space, with those big windows and patio promising lake views that make you forget you're nowhere near an ocean. It's upscale-casual with a fun yacht-club energy--perfect for pretending you're on vacation while your HOA fees quietly judge you from afar. Service was warm and efficient, the kind that makes you feel like a regular on your first visit. And in a place called "Lake Break," they clearly understand the assignment: break from the ordinary, but keep the portions generous enough that you won't need a rescue boat afterward. **Verdict:** 4.5/5 life preservers. Go for brunch, stay for the hollandaise-induced euphoria, and maybe order one of those beachy cocktails to complete the illusion. Just don't tell your cardiologist about the croissant Benedict. Lake Break is exactly what Daybreak needed: a little coastal swagger in the middle of the Salt Lake Valley. Anchors aweigh... or at least, anchors optional. read more

I agree with some of the other reviews about this place still figuring our who they are. It's got a cool vibe and a lot of potential, once they nail things down a little. I enjoyed my salmon and Brussels Sprouts and my friend absolutely adored the Malibu Barbie drink. I'm really excited for the weather to get warm and the patio to open....and I hope they move the giant boat out of the way of the lake view. I get it-that's the brand- but it really just looks like an eyesore on the sidewalk. I'll be interested to see how things progress over there. read more

This restaurant has a beautiful ambiance. It truly feels like a little piece of the sea brought to Utah. The owners clearly poured a lot of love into every detail, from the nautical décor to the warm, welcoming vibe. The Captain's Quarters is a standout spot for drinks and relaxing with friends. I had a few concerns going into this restaurant. Big one being the variety of options they offer such as fish, burgers, tacos, poke bowl, Mac and cheese, some pasta, and steaks. With no food identity, makes it hard to think that food will be consistent. And I was partially correct. Fries came out cold and a steak my table ordered came out very well done when ordered medium. Also food never came out hot or even a hot/warm. Just about everything came out cold or cold/warm. And then felt under seasoned, bland, and too comparable to other places that use the same cheaper food supplier such as Sysco. The only things I found worth while was the clam chowder and the lobster roll. Another concern being the inconsistent menu prices. Some stuff felt reasonable like burgers and Mac and cheese but with half the menu being overpriced such as the shrimp cocktail for $22 for 5 shrimp and a "sunset menu" that seems to be at least $50 a plate. Feels like there is no identity. As for the decor, was very nice and felt like a modern type lake side restaurant that has the post-ability for social media. The service has much to be improved. I can tell the servers and bartenders are doing their best, especially the bartender who was running around taking tables, making cocktails and running food. But it felt disorganized, food being run to the wrong tables, and felt understaffed with how much the 1 bartender and 1 server were running around. After 2 months, I thought the place would be more staffed and more organized. Ill give it the benefit if the doubt since it is still early in its lifetime Now for the problem I had the most. I booked a reservation for a valentine's day lunch. Not to celebrate valentine's day specifically, because we had already celebrated the date. This was more for a lunch to try a restaurant that I have had my eye on since I heard about it and before it had opened. I evenly waited a couple months so they can figure out the new restaurant tweaks. When we go in and sit down, we are only given a Valentine's day set menu. Not what we expected since we were wanting to look at the actual menu and try what we wanted. We had to ask for those everyday menus and then when the server brought them, they specifically said to expect a longer wait since they are prepared for the set menu. We then go online and find out they didn't have any notice of a set menu when we booked the lunch and then the website doesnt advertise it unless u specifically go to the events tab. I then start to notice that tables sat after us have the same thing happen. Only given the set menu for the day and having to ask for the other menus and the server saying the same thing. Feeling like they are almost trying to make people order from that menu instead of their everyday menu. With little to no advertising of a set menu and servers pushing the set menu instead of offering what people actually want is not what I want to support. If you are gonna do a set menu, either only do that and tell me as they come on, not after they sit down when they dont know and advertise it more. Dont offer both and only push 1. I've done my time working in restaurants and this isn't customer friendly. I really wanted this place to be good. But it was just a big let down. read more

Like others, I really wanted to love this place because it's not too far from home and lobster rolls (one of my favorites) are on the menu. We went on a weekday afternoon, so the restaurant wasn't too busy or crowded, and we enjoyed the sunny space on a cold day. The staff members were very friendly and attentive, and we appreciated a managerial gentleman periodically checking on us. Honestly, though, we found the menu offerings to be overpriced, especially the sides. The deal-breaker for me is that, as spelled out in their menu, they cook everything in 100% beef tallow. As a pescatarian, I should have known better than to eat a few of the house made chips. I got sick the minute I got home. I'm not sure why a restaurant wouldn't use a mainstream, healthier oil to prepare food. Unfortunately, we won't be back. UPDATE: While I very much appreciated the business owners' response to my concern, I just discovered a possible reason for the use of beef tallow when I read a NPR news feed. RFK advised followers to use this in place of healthier seed oils, in spite of all experts and actual data indicating this is absolutely not healthy. Scary when politics appears to invade what we're eating. read more

I absolutely love The Lake Break. As someone who moved here from Portland, OR, South Jordan feels like Chain Restaurant H*ll and it was so incredibly refreshing to find an original spot with a true standalone dining experience. I've had several different menu items and so far haven't been disappointed once. From Steaks, to burgers to salads it has all been fantastic. I really enjoy the vibe and the atmosphere, it reminds me of some fun places I've dined at in Portland, truly unique to South Jordan and a breath of fresh air! Obviously I'm semi-new here but it's so great to have something other than a chain/cafe open close to home. Plus they host trivia and other fun game nights in their 21+ section and I'm a sucker for trivia! Also don't get me started on desserts, the beignets and the Seaside Brown Butter Cakes are TO DIE FOR!!! They're a new restaurant working out the kinks but every time we go it gets better and better! All in all incredible restaurant and I highly encourage anyone looking for a good vibe and good eat that isn't your run of the mill vanilla-chain to check them out. read more

This place has improved drastically. We went right when they opened and like any new restaurant, they had some places to grow and improve in. We went again last week and it was so great, we went again this week. The service has improved drastically and the food has improved as well. My chicken sandwich was great and the fries were hot and fresh. My husband got the steak frites and it was wonderful as well. We sat on the patio and couldn't have asked for a better night. The cocktails are also new and always changing and very reasonably priced. We /are going back tonight ! It's a great addition to the neighborhood. read more

First timer... it was ok. Ambiance was great.. love the coastal vibe and openness of the restaurant. Service was great and attentive. Had the cheese curd appetizer, wasn't my favorite. Clam chowder was good, we shared some steak-and that was ok was a little tough. For the price, I would not go there for steak. In my opinion, Market Street's clam chowder is better. Maybe there is a specialty of theirs that makes this a go to or the convenience it's daybreak but it's not a go to I would recommend as a first choice. read more

First time at the Lake Break Restaurant We had a reservation and were seated right away. The area was chilly and the hostess immediately accommodated our request to move. We ended up upstairs which was great. The restaurant is very comfortable and not overly noisy even in the bar area where we were seated. I had the Marg10 which is a mocktail w/ non alcoholic tequila, simple syrup, lime, and Agave. Not good We had the calamari and the coconut shrimp and they were fantastic. Really good. Waitress was nice not super attentive but did the job. My wife and I both ordered the surf and turf (steak, lobster, mashed potatoes, carrots.) The steak was super tender but so undercooked it would be considered blue. Generally the mean was served cold. The lobster was delicious. The potatoes were good (I generally don't order mashed potatoes) and the carrots were tasty just a bit overcooked. My wife's plate as similar. When the manager came over after I said something he was very accommodating and was a great guy. I'll go back based on this alone. It's hard to judge a place on just one meal. Our friends had the fish and chips and the sea bass and both liked their meals. Was a little disappointed by the food was impressed by the service. It's worth the try but don't get the mocktail I did. read more

We have been so excited for this to open and it did not disappoint! I took my kids too which was so nice that they had food my kids will actually eat like Mac and cheese and fries and food for my husband and I. The fish tacos are some of the best I've ever had and I've lived and traveled all over the world. We also got a cocktail for me (coconut mojito was amazing) and mocktail for my daughter. My daughter loved her mocktail too. I didn't get great pictures of the food because we ate it too fast! The staff were friendly and the service was quick. Overall it was a great experience and we will be back time and time again. This is exactly what Daybreak needed! read more

Update: I gave this restaurant another try -- partly because I live across the street, and partly because I remain stubbornly optimistic. Unfortunately, the experience was mostly the same. And to confirm we weren't being dramatic, we ran into old friends while we were there -- and they said they've had the exact same experience. It's the kind of night that's frustrating while you're living it, and weirdly funny later when you're retelling it. We arrived at 7:15 PM for our reservation and chose to sit upstairs in the bar area instead of the main dining room (the lighting downstairs is still very bright... like "fine dining meets office fluorescents"). Upstairs was quieter, but we were seated at a booth with a very small, flimsy table, which wasn't ideal for an actual dinner setup. Our server was genuinely great -- friendly, attentive, and doing their best -- but the overall experience unraveled quickly. We ordered Prosecco, and it arrived without an ice bucket. One eventually showed up... but it was a large plastic orange bucket, and by then the food had taken so long that we'd nearly finished the bottle. When the food finally came out, it was disappointing overall: Lobster roll: soggy and not prepared as described on the menu (it specifically mentioned grilled lemon, which is what sold me). French dip: the menu listed horseradish, but it tasted more like a mild mayo-based spread -- no heat, no real punch -- and the sandwich itself was tough, like it had been sitting out. Fries: cold. We arrived at 7:15 PM and didn't leave until 10:30 PM, and not because we were lingering. It was simply that slow. Also... and I say this with love... why does this place have five menus? That might be part of the problem. It feels like nobody here has watched The Bear and absorbed the concept of "do fewer things, but do them really well." Yes, chef... please simplify. And here's the frustrating part: I want to love this place. I live across the street and was genuinely excited when it opened. I travel a lot, and what usually pulls me into a restaurant is ambience, lighting, and a well-curated menu -- especially a strong appetizer menu. This location has so much potential, but right now it feels like the restaurant hasn't fully decided what it wants to be. The menu is all over the place -- Mexican, seafood, burgers, mac and cheese, Thai salad, French salad, plus a "sunset" menu with elevated pricing. It reads less like one cohesive concept and more like a little bit of everything (which can work... but only when it's executed with consistency). The space has that same "still being figured out" energy. The lighting is extremely bright and inconsistent throughout, and the number of TVs makes it hard to tell whether the goal is sports bar, bistro, elevated restaurant... or all three at once. The décor also feels like it hasn't been edited down to a clear vision yet -- lots of shades of blue, different chair styles, mixed metals, and mass-produced-looking art. It doesn't feel layered or intentional; it just feels unfinished. The bar area looked cluttered and not especially functional, and some of the seating felt a little unstable (which isn't exactly the vibe you want when you're settling in for dinner and drinks). Food-wise, based on what we've tried, it leans more "bar food" than what the pricing and space suggest. The $29 charcuterie board, in particular, didn't match the description or the price point -- more snack plate than charcuterie. That said: there are positives. The bartender was excellent -- friendly, skilled, and the most polished part of the experience. And the clam chowder was genuinely good, which proves the kitchen can absolutely deliver when it locks in. I'm sharing this because I truly want this place to succeed. It's in a great location and could be a neighborhood go-to with a little more clarity and consistency: simplify the menu, pick an identity, soften the lighting, and edit the space so it feels cohesive. I'll be back -- because I live here and I'm rooting for it. I just hope the next visit feels less like a restaurant still workshopping its concept and more like a place that knows exactly who it is. read more

We have always liked The Break and were excited they opened a restaurant that we could take our kids to. Our table ordered the cedar plank salmon, The Break Burger, and the Grilled Chicken Sandwich. We sat on the patio with a view of the lake. Great atmosphere and great service! Full bar available as well! Fun night out! read more

I was a bit leery of trying this, but The Break is decent and it was close. I admit I went early in the evening, but service times were tight and reliable. They do have a nice drink menu including beer and wine. They are definitely a healthier version of The Break. They offered several salads and cedar plank salmon, but I wanted to try a burger. It was a real 1/2 lbs and was cooked nicely. I think in the fall and spring the patio should be very crowded. The view of the water was nice. Next time I'll try the salmon or a salad. I think previous reviews have been a bit harsh and maybe due to the recent opening. I liked it. read more

I was really looking forward to eating here. They just opened in December and it looked like it would be an awesome spot. Unfortunately, the service felt untrained. Our server didn't know the specials or what ingredients were in the drinks, which made things a bit awkward. The biggest disappointment was that the food came out cold. We ordered nachos, and my mom's main course was cold as well. The ahi taco was actually pretty good, and our drinks were solid, but overall the experience didn't live up to the expectations. The ambiance was a little plain. The bar area was cool and the plates were nice, but overall the space felt very basic. We booked VIP tables expecting something a bit more special, but it didn't feel any different from regular seating, which was misleading based on the reservation. Hoping this improves as they get more time to settle in. read more

This venue recently opened here in our neighborhood but it was my first visit. I ordered the plank salmon with coconut rice and Brussels sprouts. I have MCAS, so finding food that's truly fresh and doesn't trigger symptoms is honestly really difficult. The chef here was incredibly accommodating and willing to make adjustments to ingredients and preparation, which meant a lot to me. You can tell they actually care about the quality of the food and the people eating it. They've also fixed the lighting recently, which made the space feel much more comfortable and welcoming. Service is a little on the slower side right now, but it feels like the kind of place that's still dialing things in. With a little time, I think it'll become much more efficient and polished. Overall, this place has real potential. Give it some time -- it's clear the restaurant is moving in the right direction and is going to be very good. read more

For a new restaurant with a few kinks to work out, the food did not disappoint. I started with the French onion soup with a rich bone broth and a good amount of Gruyère cheese. For my entree I had the pappardelle with meatballs, which were so light and flavorful. The pasta was cooked to perfection. It was so filling that I had lunch with my leftovers. My husband had the steak frites which was tender, juicy and just as he asked for. The fries were delicious. The best entree was had by our friend. It was the scallops!! Tender, sweet and over the moon delicious accompanied by Parmesan risotto which could not have been any better. We cannot wait to go back. Absolutely the best place to eat in daybreak, quite frankly in Utah!! I'm a coastal girl so I'm very picky about sea food and this place has fresh and delicious food! Even if you're not a seafood fan they have some beautiful other options. Casual lunch, perfect fun menu with a great vibe for brunch, and a wonderful dinner experience! I was genuinely excited for this restaurant to open. We've been hoping for a new, fun spot in Daybreak, and I really wanted this to be it. Unfortunately, it missed the mark for me. The overall concept feels unclear. It seems like multiple ideas came together without a unified vision, which resulted in a space that lacks cohesion. An experienced interior designer could have helped create a more intentional and polished atmosphere. In particular, the bar layout didn't feel functional, and the space didn't quite deliver on the "elevated" experience it appears to be aiming for. The menu was fine, but fairly basic for what's presented as an upscale concept. There is also a separate, more expensive menu, which felt confusing rather than complementary. The food overall was average--nothing bad, but nothing memorable. The lighting was another challenge. It was extremely bright, to the point that it made it hard to relax and enjoy the space. Lastly, selling branded swag felt out of place for a restaurant positioning itself as elevated, and it detracted from the overall experience. That said, the bartender was wonderful--friendly, attentive, and a definite bright spot in the visit. read more

Food was ok, but service was not great. It was busy, but not CRAZY. We sat for a while before I finally had to ask for help. No one seemed to know who we belonged to.. not even the hostess who sat us (they also barely looked up as we stood at the host stand- talking to each other and FINALLY acknowledged us). Food took forever to come out, even just a cup of soup. Chicken Milanese was burnt and scallops were cold. Menu was all over the place (prices and offerings). I think they would really knock it out of the park if they could focus on doing a few things really well, and train up the staff. It feels like it's too much for everyone to handle. read more

Unfortunately this place was a total disappointment. I took my mom for Mother's Day dinner. Reservation and seating was the only impressive part of the meal. After placing our order, two in my party waited over 40 minutes for clam chowder. Chowder was fine, but by the time it came to the table it was barely warm. After another 30 minutes our meals finally showed up. The lobster roll I had heard was so great, was ok in taste but the size was disappointing for the price and the side of fries were lukewarm when they arrived. Very disappointed on our first visit there about a month ago. The Eggs Benedict eggs were HARD BOILED and came to the table room temperature. The Billionares (that's how it is spelt on the menu) Bacon had way too much sugar - there was crusty sugar all around the plate as well and instructions for skipping the arugula, was ignored. There was so much arugula added to the plate that it was difficult to get to the other items on the plate without getting some on the fork. Finally, no salt and pepper shakers - the waiter told us they didn't have any! A chef is so confident no seasoning is required that the restaurant doesn't provide S&P at tables. It could be a great place but I rarely drive by and see more than a few tables being occupied. The "yacht" theme is a bit much - it's on a manmade lake - lose the Gilligan Island captain hats - a warmer, lake decor would be more welcoming. read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE. Got there at 6:24 tonight and we were promptly seated and got our orders in. Burgers, chicken sandwiches. Uncomplicated good food. By 7:48 my family and I were sick of being told they're still working on your meals back there so we said we were leaving but thank you. The server asked if we would speak to the manager before leaving and not wanting her to be blamed for the restaurants overall incompetence we waited. The manager came and said "yeah sorry the kitchens backed up but you should be the next ticket." We're quickly approaching an hour and half waiting for our orders and we're told yea sorry but We're almost to your order. Surely a manager of a restaurant has more skills and ability to offer some sort of hospitality. We were still leaving but an offer to return or to comp a portion of the meal if we did stay. Yea sorry it's backed up after waiting over an hour, babes, we're leaving, but thanks for telling us the obvious. We walked out and went to Harmons to get some things and walked home to cook up dinner at home. It's now 8:05 as I post this and I'm sure they still wouldn't have gotten to our food. Lost over an hour of my life to this dump tonight, but "oh yea they're just about to get to your order." read more

Horrible experience, waited an hour for our food the waiter Josh never checked with us and when we asked how long he simply said "we are busy" not even an apology, but he did check up with the white patrons often never with us or the other ethnic tables. Coincidence????!! Never going back there again read more
