My friend and I decided to stop in to HallPass for dinner before a comedy show at WiseGuys. We were walking around looking at the different options when we saw a trail of the codspeed logos guiding us to the counter. I think the name and branding is so cute and clever. We were both SUPER excited by the menu. I love a lobster roll, and my friend thought the cod Stewart looked really good. While we were ordering, we saw someone else's calamari come out. We both immediately looked at one another as to say "that looked good let's try it," so we added that to the order as well! We also got some drinks and added tartar sauce to the order. HallPass is a food haul, and they have soda machines throughout the business. The Diet Coke brew is good. They text you when the food is ready, and for us, it took about 10-15 minutes. Once we started eating, my friend and I were both a little underwhelmed. The calamari itself wasn't that great, but the friend veggies that came with it were delicious. Not really worth the price point being that the veggies were the star of the calamari dish. My friend thought the cod Stewart was okay. Not bad but just bland. The tartar sauce was good and helpful. As for my lobster roll, it was delicious since it is lobster, bread, and butter, but it wasn't anything special compared to others I've had. The fries were good but not as hot as I would've liked. Overall, this place is good but does feel like you're paying for the location and vibes more than for the quality of the meal. That being said I would probably go back and get the same items.
First time visiting Hall Pass, The Gateway and Lobster. Dined around 6p on a Sunday. Cute area and love the food hall concept. They were out of lobster. I went for clam chowder and it didn't disappoint. Creamy. Flavorful. Plenty of potatoes and clams. Healthy portion for $6. Might return tomorrow for another cup of chowder!
We stopped by before the movies for a light dinner. The Ahi Nachos at CL do not disappoint. The Ahi was fresh and the "nacho" chips are more like a sweet fried wonton skin than a chip. Very tasty. CL is located in the Hall Pass food court. It is a nice addition to the other counter service restaurants you will find here. Recommend.
Located in the Hall Pass food court. You can order on the iPad or can flag down an employee who can take your order. I regret not ordering the regular lobster roll. I ordered the Lobster Ruben and there was hardly any lobster and it was loaded with too much sauerkraut. The lobster gets lost in the texture and taste of the sauerkraut. I ordered the chowder which was a pretty good size. It didn't have a ton of clams but it had a lot of potatoes and tasted good. Overall I would not suggest the Lobster Ruben unless you love a ton of sauerkraut.
Really meaty and well seasoned lobster rolls! If you're heading to the HallPass food court, Colossal Lobster is a great spot to check out while you're inside. I hit up a few spots while I was in the food hall, and this was by far my favorite one. They've got a decent looking menu with some seafood favorites like clam chowder, fish, and oysters. But while you're here, you should def be getting that lobster roll. For the price, they provide a nice meaty roll. I went with the Connecticut Roll and it was nicely seasoned and buttery. The roll itself wasn't as buttery as I would have liked, but it was soft and toasty. Service at the counter wasn't the friendliest but they're efficient. You order at the counter and pick your food up when you're ready. Depending on when you come, seating is pretty easy to find in the food hall. I'd definitely come back again for a lobster roll while in town.
The clam chowder was so delicious, we had to stop by again to get another cup! I also tried the Cantina Calamari: Deep fried Calamari, along with jalapenos, onions, cauliflower. They were covered with a drizzle of Sriracha aioli and served with tartar sauce, a wedge of lime and lemon. Pretty tasty. They warned me before I ordered that they were out of the Lobster Rolls tonight. Bummer!

I have always wanted to try other venues in Hall Pass. I always walk around the whole area saying I am going to try something new. Especially Blaze of Thunder. They serve a Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich that always catches my eye. Alas, I always end up right back at Colossal Lobster ordering a Cod Stewart Sandwich or 3-piece Fish with fries or tots, depending on my mood. It always hits the spot and is consistently fried to perfection. Order at the register. Wait for your buzzer. Enjoy. If you get a beverage, the soda machines are located on either side of the building. You serve yourself. I don't get there as often as I would like to because it's not close to my area, but Hall Pass is definitely worth a visit and Colossal Lobster is a solid option each time I've visited.
I am a fan of chowder bread bowls. Their chowder bread bowl was pretty tasty and I really enjoyed the bread. Their lobster rolls are tiny and would not survive in a Los Angeles eatery. They're just too tiny although they are seasoned very nicely. Lots of people said their lobster rolls were huge and that they were so meaty. They were not. The portions are tiny but the bread bowl was pretty substantial. I walked through the food hall to check out a number of the other spots but a few of them didn't have anyone there to open them up. I really liked the art work on their store front, using small port hole like looking windows for the diver's helmet/window. It was very clever.
Oof. Guess I should've known better than to order lobster rolls in Utah! I mean, the lobster wasn't totally gross or anything, but it didn't taste fresh. The line was super long as is usual at Hall Pass, the food court where this restaurant is located. I finally got through the line and had to placed my order. One thing I can't stand about Hall Pass is that the customer has to place their own order and pay / swipe their card at a machine. No actual human interaction. Even after all of that -- I had to order myself, pay myself, pick up and food myself, and clean up after myself -- the system solicited me for a tip. Get out of here with that nonsense, they need to pay ME a tip! Anyhow, there are tons of things I hated about Colossal Lobster. First, the rolls weren't traditional in any sense of the word. Each sandwich had weird spices sprinkled on top that don't belong on lobster rolls. I'm guessing the spices were an attempt to mask the not-so-great lobster meat. Second, the price is ridiculous ($18 each), especially since the rolls barely have any meat in them! Go to their website and look at the menu photos. You get maybe a third of what is pictured. Talk about false and misleading advertising. I got two to share with my friend, and we both had like two bites of actual lobster meat. I don't like eating somewhere where I instantly feel ripped off, and that's 100% the vibe at Colossal Lobster. Colossal? I think not.
We tried the lobster Reuben and the tuna tacos and both were delicious! The Reuben had large size of lobster meat in it, justifying the $24 price. The tacos were packed with fish and so flavorful. Service was quick. We sat in the bar area which wasn't too busy at that time and gave us room and space to talk in a relaxed setting.

We were lucky enough to stop by at a time when Colossal Lobster was open, so we ordered their ahi poke nachos and their warm lobster roll. The food took a little bit of time to prep but was super fresh when handed to us. Lobster roll: Loaded with lobster and the bun was super buttery and tasty. It was good for trying but if we eat here again, we'll probably each order the ahi poke nachos. Ahi poke nachos: We were nervous that it would be a small portion of fish to chips but were pleasantly surprised at how much fish was given. The chips were fresh and crispy wonton chips and the mango salsa and spicy Mayo sauce was delicious. Highly recommend this spot in HALLPASS!

There's a few other restaurants that are open inside this communal area so it's nice to be able to taste the menu at each little spot. Lobster rolls are $15 and its ok. Nothing special but it's cheaper than the other places around here for lobster rolls. Their clam chowder for $5.00 is definitely worth the price! It's creamy and you get pieces of clam. I also ordered the ahi poke nachos and it was too sweet. There's pineapple bits, and a couple of sweet sauces drizzled all over it. I'll have to come back and check out their ceviche!
I love that this restaurant has stood the test of time at Hall Pass. So often, local shops struggle, but these guys are hanging on! (I actually have no idea how stable the business is, I just notice that it's been around for a while and I'd like to celebrate that.) I prefer my food pretty simple (plain) without a lot of toppings or sauces and they were wonderful to make my sandwich just the way I wanted. The fries were fine-nothing outstanding, but they tasted good. I can't say that there was anything incredibly remarkable about Colossal Lobster, but you know what they say, "slow and steady wins the race!" Maybe there's some truth to that here. read more
I'm on a business trip and I wanted some food nearby my hotel so I stopped by a pass, which is a really cool food hall in downtown Salt Lake City! When I walked to the doors of the food hall, this was the first place I encountered and after doing a walk-through, I decided I wanted lobster rolls. I tried the cold lobster roll, which was really fresh and delicious and I thought the value for the rolls were incredible. I think I preferred the hot butter lobster roll a tiny bit more just because the flavor was so good. For an additional four dollars I got the garlic Parmesan tots and they were hot crispy and everything you want with tater tots. It was super easy to order because I just used the touchscreen kiosk and the staff member answered any questions. I would definitely try this place again! read more

Located within the North/West part of Hallpass Codspeed has some of the yummiest food! We went on a Tuesday afternoon & decided Codspeed provided the best buck for our money with their tacklebox (12 fish, fries & tater tots) which feeds 4 people for $40. It definitely fed me and 2 others with tons of leftovers! Fish: it was so good! The fish was crispy and moist and the batter had great flavor. Sides: just as good as the fish. They were crispy, seasoned perfectly & made fresh to order. read more
The lobster quality is 3.5/5 stars and i wish there was slightly bit more and the flavor was as well rounded. It was still good but definitely had better. The garlic parm tots and the fried cod was delicious. The service here was great and friendly. The ambience was pretty cool read more

Went to their location inside of Hall Pass - they're located directly to the right of the bar! Absolutely AMAZING. Seriously. I haven't tried anything besides the spicy tuna tacos (which I believe were just the special of the week) but I imagine that the tacos are very similar to their ahi poke nachos (which is what I originally wanted to get but they were sold out)! The tacos consist of tuna, an avocado whipped cream, sriracha/spicy Mayo, their special sauce, and micro greens. The taco itself is made of a fried wonton wrapper. It was DELICIOUS. I would happily order these again and again. It took about 6 ish minutes to get our order after paying, which is pretty quick given that Hall Pass was packed! Price was $15 (not including tip), which I feel is pretty decent for fish. read more

I've never experienced a lobster roll sandwich. I found these guys on Yelp, and on Google. I've gone to Hall Pass in the past, but I usually just eat at the Asian bistro. Today I wish I would've stuck to my guns instead of venturing out. I ordered a lobster roll (hot), and added some fries. Paid $27 for a sandwich and 27 pieces of fries. (Yes I counted them). Lol. I don't know how big these sandwiches are supposed to be, on TV they always looks huge with lots of Lobster, a good sauce and bread/roll. I was disappointed when I received the order, that took 27 minutes to prepare. The sandwich was the size of 2 plastic forks. The bread was nice and toasted.. there was probably 2 ounces of Lobster meat, and a very bland sauce on the bread. Very disappointed. Smh. I placed a fork next to the sandwich so you can get an idea of how small the sandwich is. read more
This place is located inside Hallpass. The menu seems limited, but we're able to find something that we like. The Codspeed counter was closed at the time we were there, so we had to order through Colossal Lobster counter. Food was good, but a bit overpriced. There was no line when we ordered at around ~2pm. Parking was easy, we parked in the Gateway garage. Fish - crunchy, good batter Seashore Fries - crispy! So good, must be some special salt and pepper :) Tartar sauce - yummy read more

Tried this on a whim and it was really pretty good for sea food in land. The lobster roll was buttery, full of meat, and in a soft roll. Clam chowder was creamy, full of meat and potatoes and frankly a good portion for the money. Had to try the fish and it was just ok but maybe my fault since I got it to go. Lemon was critical, tartar sauce was average. Looking forward to coming back and eating in this up scale food hall. Ambiance was outstanding! read more

Eh, I've definitely had a much better lobster roll. The bun was well toasted and but the lobster itself was tasteless and seemed over cooked. I had two pieces of Cod and found them to be more satisfying than the lobster. With so many other dining options around I probably would not return to Colossal Lobster. Good luck. read more

I was fairly disappointed with my visit here. The menu looked delicious. Prices seemed a little high but after all, we are in Utah, so fresh seafood doesn't come cheap. When I received my food the portion size of the lobster roll was MUCH smaller than anticipated based on menu photos. Overall the sandwich tasted okay, the lobster was a bit "rubbery" I would say though. Far from the best I have had. At least the Garlic Parm Tots were good! Overall, the Hall Pass food court is a cool spot to hang out, have a drink, and get an expensive bit to eat, but I likely won't be ordering food here again. read more

***review is for food only since I opted for delivery and prices are accurate as of 03/30/2022*** Every time I travel, the first thing I search for on Yelp is "lobster roll". SLC did not disappoint by showing me a place that was less than five minutes from my hotel AND offered Uber Eats delivery. What's even better is that with their Uber Eats prices, the lobster rolls are marked up $2 each but everything else is priced same as dine in! I ordered one Connecticut (butter and lobster) and one Maine (Mayo, celery, and lobster) roll ($17 each), an order of the garlic Parmesan tots ($3), and a regular clam chowder ($5). After placing my order, it arrived in less than 30 minutes and was very hot and fresh. The rolls come in the traditional split top buns (people who have not had a traditional lobster roll before think it's just a hot dog bun but it's not!) and while length-wise they may seem small, they are quite deep and hold a nice amount of lobster, especially at this price. They were fresh and had no fishy taste or odor whatsoever. The tots are heavily coated in garlic and Parmesan so avoid them if you're not a fan of either. The clam chowder was filled with huge chunks of clam and had a nice rich flavor. A big bonus is that their containers and disposable silverware are all recyclable or compostable! Definitely give them a try next time you're in the area. read more

Really delicious flavor, loaded with butter and seasoning, but a very disappointing amount of lobster. I've seen photos of the roll piled high and this was far from it. For $20 I was very disappointed.... Will not be eating here again unless they change their portion sizes read more
Colossal Lobster is located in the HallPass food hall. Great, clean and easy parking can be found in the South Garage (440 W 100 S, Salt Lake City, UT). We parked in this garage, had our two daughters and a stroller and everything was easily accessible. We parked, took the elevator up from the garage and came out right to HallPass. Colossal Lobster had a concise menu and made ordering easy and the employees were warm and eager to help. We ordered the Maine Lobster Roll and the Sea Salt Pepper Fries. I felt the seasoning on the chilled lobster could have been better, however, I DID love the big chunks of lobster throughout my meal and the beautifully buttered roll is always a highlight for me! The fries were perfect! Those type of fries that are crispy on the outside, soft in the inside and was a solid fry that could last! Nothing worse then cold fries that have absolutely depleted in the few minutes since you received them, these fries were long-lasting, crispy and flavorful! Perfect for when with friends and the conversation can take away from eating immediately! read more
