This was probably my least favorite of the restaurants we visited during our trip. The New England clam chowder was salty - like inedible salty. I decided to take it home to see if I could add cream and a potato to mellow it, but after 2 days of it sitting in my fridge, I knew I wasn't going to eat it. $5 for the cup, which was a rather large cup portion. The oysters were ok. The balsamic sauce w/chopped onions with which it was served was very tasty and a nice touch/alternative to the Tabasco, which I put on anyway. No crackers served with oysters. $3/oyster It was the first restaurant from which we ordered and the last one from whom we got our food. The menu doesn't allow much flexibility to try things, i.e. crab tacos have to be ordered in 3's; I think a variety plate would be in order when you're serving items as unusual as they are. read more

Walked into Hall Pass for the first time. I initially thought it was a restaurant but it's like a fancy upscale food court concept. I was drawn to Colossal Lobster since I've always loved Maine lobster and clam chowder. I tried ordering on the new app but it somehow glitched. Luckily, Roland who is one of the managers was incredibly helpful and kind; he tried assisting me though it. The food as he promised was delicious. He even walked up and found us somehow to follow up on the food! Honestly, the lobster roll was a lot smaller than expected BUT it was loaded with lobster. For the price and quality of preparation CodSpeed is the place to be especially downtown. Simple menu and simple preparation is key to a clean tasting fish n chips. The colossal lobster is located within the food hall in Salt Lake City. I was impressed with the entire facility. Outdoor dining had heaters and comfortable seating. You order at whatever food station you would like and of course I picked a lobster roll. This was probably one of the best lobster rolls I have had. After finding the chicken place I was really interested in closed at 12:15 ‍, my second choice was Colossal Lobster. I sat at the small bar/counter, and was ignored by the woman behind it. After she took his order, I called her out on ignoring me. According to her, people often come sit here without ordering....well, ok. That sounds dubious, but assuming it's true, because people often sit at the bar and don't order, that means she doesn't greet, ask if you want to order or even acknowledge your existence when you sit 2 feet away from her at her restaurant? While I normally would have left, I'd gone through the hassle of making my way over here at lunch, so I ordered the Connecticut lobster roll. It was decent. A fair amount of tasty lobster on a warm buttery bun. Dry, but squeezing the lemon over it made it much better. I'd probably give it 3-4 stars if not for the horrible service, but the service was horrible, so I give it 2. The set up at Hall Pass is very cool, but having my first restaurant choice closed and being treated so poorly at the second one leaves a bad taste. While this place could be amazing, as I look around, it feels like these are not 8 independent local restaurants, but one big corporate restaurant divided up into 8 (well, today, 7) different counters to order from (if you're not assumed to be someone who came to the counter to not order). I had a delicious Connecticut style lobster roll. My first ever. The Connecticut is hot lobster with a Cajun style seasoning in a toasted roll. I had to hit this place before my trip to Maine later this year because I'm sure I will become a lobster after trying the real thing. This place did not disappoint, though. The flavor was very good. While it's not the most filling meal by itself, it's quite a good bit of lobster stuffed in there. I tried the Hot Garlic Butter roll and oh the garlicky buttery goodness it was like a pile of soft delicious lobster meat stuffed into and spilling out of a piece of thick garlic toast. I don't know how I've gone so long in my life without discovering lobster rolls, but what an invention! Best Lobster rolls around! I had mine served Connecticut style which is warm and drenched in delicious butter. Their fish and chips are also to die for. Went for Colossal Lobster to get their famous lobster roll. 17 dollars is steep but it's lobster and I expected a colossal roll with a good amount of lobster hence their name. When my Lobster Roll came I starting laughing because I thought it was a joke at how small it was. The roll was about the size of my 2 pinky fingers and there was maybe 1 oz of lobster in this mini roll. They need to rename it mini lobster roll cuz I would have to eat 6 of these to consider it a meal. Felt totally ripped off and went to get the fried chicken sandwich at the other spot in hall pass.
