I'm on a business trip and I wanted some food nearby my hotel so I stopped by a pass, which is a really cool food hall in downtown Salt Lake City! When I walked to the doors of the food hall, this was the first place I encountered and after doing a walk-through, I decided I wanted lobster rolls. I tried the cold lobster roll, which was really fresh and delicious and I thought the value for the rolls were incredible. I think I preferred the hot butter lobster roll a tiny bit more just because the flavor was so good. For an additional four dollars I got the garlic Parmesan tots and they were hot crispy and everything you want with tater tots. It was super easy to order because I just used the touchscreen kiosk and the staff member answered any questions. I would definitely try this place again!
My friend and I decided to stop in to HallPass for dinner before a comedy show at WiseGuys. We were walking around looking at the different options when we saw a trail of the codspeed logos guiding us to the counter. I think the name and branding is so cute and clever. We were both SUPER excited by the menu. I love a lobster roll, and my friend thought the cod Stewart looked really good. While we were ordering, we saw someone else's calamari come out. We both immediately looked at one another as to say "that looked good let's try it," so we added that to the order as well! We also got some drinks and added tartar sauce to the order. HallPass is a food haul, and they have soda machines throughout the business. The Diet Coke brew is good. They text you when the food is ready, and for us, it took about 10-15 minutes. Once we started eating, my friend and I were both a little underwhelmed. The calamari itself wasn't that great, but the friend veggies that came with it were delicious. Not really worth the price point being that the veggies were the star of the calamari dish. My friend thought the cod Stewart was okay. Not bad but just bland. The tartar sauce was good and helpful. As for my lobster roll, it was delicious since it is lobster, bread, and butter, but it wasn't anything special compared to others I've had. The fries were good but not as hot as I would've liked. Overall, this place is good but does feel like you're paying for the location and vibes more than for the quality of the meal. That being said I would probably go back and get the same items.
First time visiting Hall Pass, The Gateway and Lobster. Dined around 6p on a Sunday. Cute area and love the food hall concept. They were out of lobster. I went for clam chowder and it didn't disappoint. Creamy. Flavorful. Plenty of potatoes and clams. Healthy portion for $6. Might return tomorrow for another cup of chowder!
We stopped by before the movies for a light dinner. The Ahi Nachos at CL do not disappoint. The Ahi was fresh and the "nacho" chips are more like a sweet fried wonton skin than a chip. Very tasty. CL is located in the Hall Pass food court. It is a nice addition to the other counter service restaurants you will find here. Recommend.
Located in the Hall Pass food court. You can order on the iPad or can flag down an employee who can take your order. I regret not ordering the regular lobster roll. I ordered the Lobster Ruben and there was hardly any lobster and it was loaded with too much sauerkraut. The lobster gets lost in the texture and taste of the sauerkraut. I ordered the chowder which was a pretty good size. It didn't have a ton of clams but it had a lot of potatoes and tasted good. Overall I would not suggest the Lobster Ruben unless you love a ton of sauerkraut.
Really meaty and well seasoned lobster rolls! If you're heading to the HallPass food court, Colossal Lobster is a great spot to check out while you're inside. I hit up a few spots while I was in the food hall, and this was by far my favorite one. They've got a decent looking menu with some seafood favorites like clam chowder, fish, and oysters. But while you're here, you should def be getting that lobster roll. For the price, they provide a nice meaty roll. I went with the Connecticut Roll and it was nicely seasoned and buttery. The roll itself wasn't as buttery as I would have liked, but it was soft and toasty. Service at the counter wasn't the friendliest but they're efficient. You order at the counter and pick your food up when you're ready. Depending on when you come, seating is pretty easy to find in the food hall. I'd definitely come back again for a lobster roll while in town.
The clam chowder was so delicious, we had to stop by again to get another cup! I also tried the Cantina Calamari: Deep fried Calamari, along with jalapenos, onions, cauliflower. They were covered with a drizzle of Sriracha aioli and served with tartar sauce, a wedge of lime and lemon. Pretty tasty. They warned me before I ordered that they were out of the Lobster Rolls tonight. Bummer!
Located inside of a food hall appropriately named Hall Pass. In the heart of The Gateway Mall. Colossal Lobster is located immediately to your left upon entering the front doors of Hall Pass. I have always wanted to try other venues in Hall Pass. I always walk around the whole area saying I am going to try something new. Especially Blaze of Thunder. They serve a Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich that always catches my eye. Alas, I always end up right back at Colossal Lobster ordering a Cod Stewart Sandwich or 3-piece Fish with fries or tots, depending on my mood. It always hits the spot and is consistently fried to perfection. Order at the register. Wait for your buzzer. Enjoy. If you get a beverage, the soda machines are located on either side of the building. You serve yourself. I don't get there as often as I would like to because it's not close to my area, but Hall Pass is definitely worth a visit and Colossal Lobster is a solid option each time I've visited.
I am a fan of chowder bread bowls. Their chowder bread bowl was pretty tasty and I really enjoyed the bread. Their lobster rolls are tiny and would not survive in a Los Angeles eatery. They're just too tiny although they are seasoned very nicely. Lots of people said their lobster rolls were huge and that they were so meaty. They were not. The portions are tiny but the bread bowl was pretty substantial. I walked through the food hall to check out a number of the other spots but a few of them didn't have anyone there to open them up. I really liked the art work on their store front, using small port hole like looking windows for the diver's helmet/window. It was very clever.
Oof. Guess I should've known better than to order lobster rolls in Utah! I mean, the lobster wasn't totally gross or anything, but it didn't taste fresh. The line was super long as is usual at Hall Pass, the food court where this restaurant is located. I finally got through the line and had to placed my order. One thing I can't stand about Hall Pass is that the customer has to place their own order and pay / swipe their card at a machine. No actual human interaction. Even after all of that -- I had to order myself, pay myself, pick up and food myself, and clean up after myself -- the system solicited me for a tip. Get out of here with that nonsense, they need to pay ME a tip! Anyhow, there are tons of things I hated about Colossal Lobster. First, the rolls weren't traditional in any sense of the word. Each sandwich had weird spices sprinkled on top that don't belong on lobster rolls. I'm guessing the spices were an attempt to mask the not-so-great lobster meat. Second, the price is ridiculous ($18 each), especially since the rolls barely have any meat in them! Go to their website and look at the menu photos. You get maybe a third of what is pictured. Talk about false and misleading advertising. I got two to share with my friend, and we both had like two bites of actual lobster meat. I don't like eating somewhere where I instantly feel ripped off, and that's 100% the vibe at Colossal Lobster. Colossal? I think not.
We tried the lobster Reuben and the tuna tacos and both were delicious! The Reuben had large size of lobster meat in it, justifying the $24 price. The tacos were packed with fish and so flavorful. Service was quick. We sat in the bar area which wasn't too busy at that time and gave us room and space to talk in a relaxed setting.
I was immediately drawn to HALLPASS because they offered lobster rolls at Colossal Lobster, but I would go during lunch when they weren't open. Bummer. One evening, my husband and I were driving in downtown SLC and decided to eat at HALLPASS since many other places were not open late. We were lucky enough to stop by at a time when Colossal Lobster was open, so we ordered their ahi poke nachos and their warm lobster roll. The food took a little bit of time to prep but was super fresh when handed to us. Lobster roll: Loaded with lobster and the bun was super buttery and tasty. It was good for trying but if we eat here again, we'll probably each order the ahi poke nachos. Ahi poke nachos: We were nervous that it would be a small portion of fish to chips but were pleasantly surprised at how much fish was given. The chips were fresh and crispy wonton chips and the mango salsa and spicy Mayo sauce was delicious. Highly recommend this spot in HALLPASS!
My husband and I browsed our options at HallPass and decided we wanted to try something here. We went with the Ahi Poke Nachos and the Garlic Parm Tots. Both of them were very good. They didn't skimp on the toppings for the nachos which I appreciated. I would definitely come back here to try more of the menu.

This was probably my least favorite of the restaurants we visited during our trip. The New England clam chowder was salty - like inedible salty. I decided to take it home to see if I could add cream and a potato to mellow it, but after 2 days of it sitting in my fridge, I knew I wasn't going to eat it. $5 for the cup, which was a rather large cup portion. The oysters were ok. The balsamic sauce w/chopped onions with which it was served was very tasty and a nice touch/alternative to the Tabasco, which I put on anyway. No crackers served with oysters. $3/oyster It was the first restaurant from which we ordered and the last one from whom we got our food. The menu doesn't allow much flexibility to try things, i.e. crab tacos have to be ordered in 3's; I think a variety plate would be in order when you're serving items as unusual as they are. read more

Walked into Hall Pass for the first time. I initially thought it was a restaurant but it's like a fancy upscale food court concept. I was drawn to Colossal Lobster since I've always loved Maine lobster and clam chowder. I tried ordering on the new app but it somehow glitched. Luckily, Roland who is one of the managers was incredibly helpful and kind; he tried assisting me though it. The food as he promised was delicious. He even walked up and found us somehow to follow up on the food! Honestly, the lobster roll was a lot smaller than expected BUT it was loaded with lobster. The clam chowder tasted like the ones from Boston and the bread bowl was easy to pull apart because of its freshness. Old fashioned service in a cook to order manner. I got the tacklebox and it tasted great. HOWEVER, the place forgot to put the sauce in the box and we didn't check since the box was sealed at pickup. Typically, I wouldn't care but the sauce is not sold free. No issues with staff. Pick up was quick. read more
For the price and quality of preparation CodSpeed is the place to be especially downtown. Simple menu and simple preparation is key to a clean tasting fish n chips. Although I wish they had English chips, having the tater tot option over the usual fries is a nice touch. I hope they keep this place around and don't rotate it out. read more

The colossal lobster is located within the food hall in Salt Lake City. I was impressed with the entire facility. Outdoor dining had heaters and comfortable seating. You order at whatever food station you would like and of course I picked a lobster roll. This was probably one of the best lobster rolls I have had. Once you order your food you get a number and take it to your table in them the wait staff comes and takes your drink order. A nice system all around but trust me, if you're going there for the first time, try the lobster roll. read more

Was referred this place by a friend who showed me a picture of the Connecticut Roll that he got, and it looked great, with a lot of lobster and so I decided to order my own. So I order on Yelp and had it delivered and opened the box and bummed to see what looked like two pieces of kids sized toast and a very little amount of lobster. The lobster was pretty great, so there's that, but it literally was only two bites and I was done. So about $20 dollars for this item it is not worth the amount and again I reiterate, it looked like it came out of a kids meal. So even though the lobster was great, I would avoid purchasing this expensive miniature item unless you want to spend lots of money on a extremely small sandwich designed for 4 - 8 year old kids, then check it out. Either way my first time is my last time. read more

I so wanted to like this place. Stumbled across an article about Hall Pass last night, came for lunch today. After finding the chicken place I was really interested in closed at 12:15 , my second choice was Colossal Lobster. I sat at the small bar/counter, and was ignored by the woman behind it. She was busy assembling orders, so I waited patiently for about 5 minutes. She finished up and looked right past me to take the order of another guy who was just walking up. Am I invisible?!??? After she took his order, I called her out on ignoring me. According to her, people often come sit here without ordering....well, ok. That sounds dubious, but assuming it's true, because people often sit at the bar and don't order, that means she doesn't greet, ask if you want to order or even acknowledge your existence when you sit 2 feet away from her at her restaurant? While I normally would have left, I'd gone through the hassle of making my way over here at lunch, so I ordered the Connecticut lobster roll. It was decent. A fair amount of tasty lobster on a warm buttery bun. Dry, but squeezing the lemon over it made it much better. I'd probably give it 3-4 stars if not for the horrible service, but the service was horrible, so I give it 2. The set up at Hall Pass is very cool, but having my first restaurant choice closed and being treated so poorly at the second one leaves a bad taste. While this place could be amazing, as I look around, it feels like these are not 8 independent local restaurants, but one big corporate restaurant divided up into 8 (well, today, 7) different counters to order from (if you're not assumed to be someone who came to the counter to not order). I heard there is a similar food hall opening on State and 800. I think that will be where I go next time. read more
Absolutely delicious! There aren't many places to get lobster rolls in SLC so my husband was scouting this place out. There was so much flavor in every bite of everything we ordered. The lobster roll did not disappoint, it was buttery and rich and cooked so nicely. The shrimp ceviche was fresh and well balanced. The poke nachos were so good as well and were super flavorful, but I would've liked slightly less sauce on them because every bite was covered in it. We will definitely return here! read more

I am really digging Hallpass right now. I am here at peak lunch hour and lines are 3-4 people max. They are open for dine-in and takeout, and are socially distancing tables as appropriate. I had a delicious Connecticut style lobster roll. My first ever. The Connecticut is hot lobster with a Cajun style seasoning in a toasted roll. I had to hit this place before my trip to Maine later this year because I'm sure I will become a lobster after trying the real thing. This place did not disappoint, though. The flavor was very good. It was a tad dry, but then again lobster rolls usually are for me. You pay a reasonable price and it was surprisingly almost filling. Add a side from one of the other restaurants and you should be good to go! read more

This place is a must try. I'm not sure what they do with their batter, but it's so light and crisp! It's hard to find a good fish n chips, but this place is it! I also really enjoyed the tartar sauce, went will with the dish. Of all the places at Hallpass, this one is probably my favorite! read more

So delicious! Been here 2x since we've been in town. Note this is inside a big college like cafeteria. You probably wouldn't get full off of one roll so make sure you order a side. read more

I get the lobster Reuben every time I come here. Five times. And five times doesn't seem like enough. Sometimes, mid-week, I'll dream about the lobster Reuben. It's so good. You'll do yourself a disservice if you go with anything else. Friends also got the chowder and it was super fresh and good sized chunks of clams in it. I shared 'a' bite of my Reuben. read more
