It moves, it shakes, it is busy, but consistently good, it has tempo and a rhythm all its own, they march to the beat of their own drum and they put innovative in the dictionary (that's hard because they had to time travel to do it; that word has been around a while). Hosting some of the most unique breakfast menu choices in Reno, Two Chicks has got it going on, and in so many categories. First, I'll credit them with being amongst the pivotal businesses in reviving mid-town, but moreover they bring their own positive energy as well. I've never seen a face absent a smile or genuinely felt welcome here and the patrons are just as happy and positive. The menu hosts benie's, bellini's, and Bloodie's in no particular order and that is just the start. I already mentioned they're innovative and it is highly reflected in the menu. They offer a variety of Benedicts each with a spin all their own: salmon, steak, veggie, or traditional. I'll say they also put their own spin on the Bloody Mary varieties they offer as well: Hawaiian, Kimchee, house made. This is the kind of place you really look at the menu before you order, not because it is a too large, but because the choices are unique. So why will you be coming here? I have heard so much hype about this restaurant. It's free seating, so you need to find your own table. Our server wasn't very friendly and I wasn't impressed with the service overall. I decided to order the classic Eggs Benedict since everyone raves about it. BOTH of my poached eggs were way over cooked! I came here because the reviews were pretty great BUT I didn't feel the food was anything to rave about. It was good but there wasn't anything that stood out. You could find the same quality of food at your typical Black Bear Diner. The wait on the weekends are definitely not worth it. Great diner feel! We had to wait for about 30 minutes which wasn't terrible. I took a chance on the chilaquiles dish. Being Mexican and it being one of my favorite meals, I wanted to try it out. I chose over easy eggs and those were delicious. Sadly, the sauce on the chilaquiles tasted like basic enchilada sauce and did not impress me. I appreciated the staff's attentiveness - we got a few coffee refills and our check quickly. I definitely would give this place another try though. I love Two Chicks, both locations are always high quality and consistent. Now that I am gluten free, I had to try a breakfast sandwich on GF bread, which tasted amazing and was very fresh. 1st try and the live was so long that we left. Tried again the next day and walked right in. Food was okay but did not live up to reviews. Overpriced breakfast joint. $25 for breakfast and we left hungry. We arrived early Saturday AM to get in before the crowd. We sat ourselves (per the sign at the front), and gentleman arrived to take our order. We ordered a 'Patty & Eggs' and a 'French Toast Combo', which were small portion sizes. The food was ok, nothing special about it. The service was minimal, as it seemed there were mainly cooks on staff; towards the end of our meal, a woman employee (she was wearing a Two Chicks shirt & greeted the cooks) came in & started running tables. read more

My Meal Main Course - I had the apple cinnamon French toast combo plate. Apples inside the bread made into French toast coated in cinnamon. Perfect! Two eggs over easy cooked perfectly and oozed its yummy goldenness all over my plate. I had to steal a slice of toast from my wife to help mop it up. Then I had one patty of Mark Estee's Reno Provision sausage, simply yummy. I only wish it was bigger, but I knew it was before ordering. I love how their plates are egg shaped. Service - My wife's order was particular and out waitress was able to figure out what she want and make it happen. So big kudos for handling my wife's special order and getting the kitchen to deliver the way my wife wanted it. When I want to show our visitors something a little different in the Reno breakfast scene, especially when they stay near the Midtown area, I think of Two Chicks. I had the pleasure of sharing meals with Michael H. from Sacramento and recently with Hawaii's Kathy A. and Terry K., not to mention Reno's own CM, Michael T. Seating is available in booths, low tops and a bar, with natural light from a multitude of windows, and aesthetics in flat metal, red, and yellow. You'll find a table top drink menu with a number of choice poisons both hot and cold. Your server brings you the tri-fold menu with breakfast and lunch options, with enough variety to fancy practically any desire. My fave items are the biscuits and gravy, sausage & eggs, and the eggs benedict. Most breakfasts come with sweet potato home fries, for which you can opt out with classic hash browns. This latest visit, I went with the eggs benedict on their veggie fritters instead of English muffins. I'm trying to eat cleaner and healthier and I'm grateful for places like Two Chicks who keep that in mind for their clientele. The presentation on the white egg shaped plate was clean and fresh, my eggs poached perfectly, and the portions were just right. I savored every bite I took in between conversations with my wonderful friends. I like what Jessie and Haley have brought to Midtown, especially their support for local suppliers. I appreciate their charming touches and their delightful selections. I will be back for more, and I will definitely think of them again for my next Reno visitor. read more

I'm a total fan for this place and if you are craving some good ole' comfort food, then you will be too. Aside from their obvious melts, they have a killer breakfast selection, as well. Their prices are reasonable and their servings will feed two, no problem! I would highly recommend just the half order of the biscuits and gravy -- I was pregnant and it still was A LOT. I made sure to tell the waitress "umm, I wanted the HALF order", she looked at me as if I was dense and said, "honey, that is the half order"! So good! You can also call in orders and pick up, since the parking can be a bit scarce. I couldn't wait for this restaurant to open. I've been such a grilled cheese stalker the last few years. The thought of a full service grilled cheese restaurant was my private goal. Another option for breakfast, brunch and lunch is just fine with me too. During my first visit, I tried the biscuits & gravy, eggs and homemade sausage breakfast platter with coffee. There are a couple items that are 'Two Chicks' only. The first is a local coffee blend designed by TC. It's pleasant with a beautiful aroma. The other is their homemade sausage. It's well balanced the cuts of fat, meat, seasonings are perfectly grinded. Breakfast was such a hit. I returned for lunch. This week, I enjoyed lunch at TC. I went with the Chef's Salad + a grilled chicken breast. I really enjoyed the creamy herb dressing. It was a great salad, with the traditional salad items. What made today's visit great was the Bloody Mary's. I had the Verdi Mary. A fresh blend of tomatillos and cucumber with crushed ice made this so refreshing. Evidently, there was a mix issue (to much) but that has been resolved. The other Bloody Mary that I had was the Kimchee Mary. it tastes as interesting as it sounds. The mix blends kimchee with sriracha. The only draw back is that I'm a garnish guy; I love the compliment of choice veggies. But Kimchee hanging on top of a lime looks rough (unappetizing), so I pushed it to the bottom and finished it like a champ! It was a fun lunch and I'm looking forward to my next visit. I arrived at Two Chicks with high expectations and some doubts. Some of the early reviews painted a picture which left me wondering if they opened before they were ready, with staffing being an issue and some general confusion experienced by patrons. That said, my experience was really strong and warrants 4 stars, if not 5. The place has a fun and fresh vibe unlike any other breakfast/lunch place in the area. Upon walking in I was surprised by how large the space is. They did a nice job with furnishing the space and the west facing windows give the room good light. I sat in a booth and found them comfortable and big enough to seat 4 full sized adults. The classic red/white clothe napkins are a nice touch. If I had one complaint it's that the plates are somewhat flimsy. They are esthetically fine but have no weight so they don't stay put when cutting your food. As for the food I think their ingredients are a cut above. Certainly their sausage patties and bacon tasted as good as any in town. Also their house coffee is locally roasted by Wood Fired Roasters and it is light years ahead of what they peddle at Peg's or PJ's. Kudos to the owners for ensuring coffee drinkers can enjoy a nice cup of Joe in their beautiful dining room (note: no espresso drinks). The veggie fritters were just ok but taste much better with some Cholula. Personally I'd like the option of having well-done potatoes blended with the fritters which might add texture and crunch to what is otherwise a soft bite of food. Breakfast and lunch are served all day (7am - 2pm) and I'm certain to return for and sample their famous melts and special Benedicts. Strong start and another welcomed addition to the expanding and dynamic Midtown district. read more

Two Chicks is located in the Stick's shopping mall on Virginia. They are known for the eggceptional breakfasts. I'm all for a good egg but I can't seem to make it past the GourMelts! Basically the CRACK of grilled cheese. So many to choose from I was ready to order Peanut Butter, Banana and bacon (a la The KING) but I opted for the Pepper Popper with Bacon -- think what would happen if a jalapeno popper and a grilled cheese had a baby! Side options are Parmesan French fries, salad or sweet potato fries (+$!). For me there is only 1 option: Parmesan French fries. No ranch for fries, ask for the Basil Aioli. It was tasty! I should've have stopped at 1/2 but I ate it all. Rumor has it Two Chicks was once a food truck that parked itself by the courthouse. I might be wrong. Now with a storefront they are committed to local and fresh ingredients from the eggs to the beer. The good: The menu has something for everyone - eggs to burgers. The feel is a hip diner with lots of seating options (booths, tables, counter, outdoor seating) Service is friendly. Everything is cooked from scratch so you might have to wait for your meal; it will be worth it. The not so good: If go you a "brunch" time on the weekend there will be a wait. read more

Sometimes you stumble across the best places by accident.... With that being said, I was in town for the National Bowling Tournament and a friend had recommended another breakfast location to eat at. So I took the nice walk from the casinos and across the river to find that it was temporally closed. It looked like a car had run thru a post and into the restaurant. That's why I said I found Two Chicks by accident! So not knowing where to go next, I walked over to Starbucks, got an Ice Tea Lemonade and hoped on Yelp. I walked into a very cute little up to date modern style location. I was greeted with a smile and taken to a table right away. You can sit inside or outside on the nice little patio section they have. If you sit outside, it could get a bit toasty, but if I remember right the patio section is on the east side of the restaurant so the sun won't be beating on you to bad. Great menu with a lot of great options to choose from. If I lived in town near this place, I would probably weigh 500 lbs because I would be here every weekend! I ordered the Eggs Benedict with hash browns. What I like about this place is that the use local farmers too if they can. They asked if I would use the local raised products and I said of course. There was a small fee to use the local raised products, but I don't care. I would rather pay to have fresh and local than store bought. The food came out in a very timely manner. However, prior to my order coming out, the waitress brought to the table a fresh strawberry/mint salsa with a cinnamon sugar pita chips. That was a FREE appetizer that was amazing! The eggs benedict had great flavor. The ham was juicy, the hollandaise sauce had a great flavor with a little bit of a kick at the end of the bite which made it even better! One great thing about this place, was the fact that everyone that worked there seem to love the job. They all had a small on their face, they would all stop at the table (not just your waitress), and they had to be the friendliest staff I have ever met. Having read so many good reviews about this restaurant, I went in excited and really wanting to love this restaurant... but I can't say that I do. It was a let down! But I do believe in being fair so let me cover the entire Two Chicks experience.... First let me say parking can be a challenge, but after you park and walk in - a brightly light and colorful restaurant awaits you. The restaurant is decorated with really charming and cute knick knacks, it help give the restaurant a homey and quaint feel, which makes an interesting contrast to the rather industrial built of the restaurant building. I also really appreciated that on each table the restaurant had organ donor information (a cause near and dear to my heart). It is also noteworthy (and praiseworthy), that Two Chicks support their local suppliers and purchase when they can, their produce and eggs locally. The hostess and our waitress were friendly, but nothing that would set them apart... in all honesty I've had better service at Denny's. Now we come to the really annoying part.... the hour or so wait for our food! After our waitress took our orders, we didn't see her for a long time (we assumed that maybe she went on break). However all the tables around us kept getting served, even tables with larger parties and who came in 10+ minutes after we did. When we finally saw our waitress again (about 40 minutes later), we asked her where our food was and she when she came back out of the kitchen she said "the food was never fired". I don't know if she forgot to turn in the order or if it had been misplaced. She said the meals would be comped. The wait was another 10 minutes or so after this. I would of been ok with all of this (they did comp the meal and we are after all, all human) , if the service after this was great and the food was totally delicious, but it wasn't... our toast was served about 10 minutes after the breakfast entries and it was iced cold! REALLY! You would think that after making such a huge blunder you would get the rest of the service right, especially something as simple as serve the toast with the meal and serve it warm, very few people like globs of unmelted butter on cold toast! As far as the meal, my eggs were really fresh and cooked perfectly. My hash browns however weren't anything special, which is also annoying because I had wanted the sweet potato fries with my meal. Lastly, the menu has limited vegetarian options and even less vegan options, even less for me because I loath cream cheese and quite a few of the vegetarian options had cream cheese. This all being said, I'd like to come back and give them another try, see if they will cook something without cream cheese for me/try a speciality drink (their drink menu looked awesome), and maybe update my review. read more

I came across this place on Yelp when I landed in Reno before I head to Tahoe. This place is a bit hidden from Virginia St, you might have to pass by a few times to find it. From the outside this place looks pretty small but once you walk inside you will see there are plenty of seats. I ordered their red chick scramble with extra bacon. It was pretty good but the bacon bites were a bit chewy and not crunchy. So that's why I minus one star. Overall this place is awesome, all the servers are friendly, their kitchen is pretty small but they can do magic in there.
