So my friend's b-day dinner celebration, we had great dinner at Kentro ( the Greek place) and since we had a thought for a cup of nice wine and cheese platter, we have searched Yelp, and came to twisted vine, since it's got the most ravishing reviews and stars around the area. 1. Service: The waiter who served us. or anyone in the restaurant for the fact was attentive, or was not able to really communicate. We have asked for the cheese platter, if there were any other sub for the bread, I mean if you don't have any, he could just say so. But attitude, or way he puts in words were just not pretty. He just kept repeating no, not even saying he will check on it, nothing. 2. Price/menu option/Seating area: we had round table at the entrance of the restaurant, literally it was placed in front of the door. why? it's spacious restaurant, they need to think it through. Compare to prices on the menu - wine variety nor food didn't have much of option, nothing surprising, nothing wow. 3. Atmosphere: the place was filled def, but with classic heavy dark wood furnitures of place did not go with servers wearing T-shirt as their attire. Lighting & music were almost missing, it was not this or that. My check took almost 10 min to be back to me, because server who took it was talking to other customers in the middle. If you're an epicurean for beer definitely try the Bosteel's Triple Karmeliet, Chimay's Grand Reserve and the Maredsous Blonde. There are a lot of other great brews from California too like Lost Coast Brewery. I think the beer list changes periodically but the above are always worth mentioning anyway! My friends and I also ordered a small cheese platter which came with some very creamy brie, blue cheese, and a type of parmesan (tasted like parm marries sharp white cheddar) with some toasted baguette, grapes, honey-roasted walnuts and quince preserve. Fantastically delish, would highly recommend it to accompany the drinking. Their lunch sandwiches and paninis are worth the trip, served with a choice of fruit/salad. The service is also great. Dip the bread squares and few slices of apple QUICKLY because the bread bowl obviously doesn't hold heat and your cheese will condense to room temp form. Let's just say, we ate the whole thing, including the bread bowl! [[ Wine ]]-- we got the 2010 Bodegas Decero- Malbec $12/$42. Sweet tasting and pleasant for my untrained wine palate. They have flights that of 3 wines on 3 tiers to choose from but we went with what the bf already loves. [[ Stuffed French Toast Empanadas ]]-- French toast stuffed in a pastry pocket. Maple syrup and powdered sugar. Very doughy but definitely tasted like crispy french toast. Interesting little side dish of strawberries under whip cream. Mixed up the sweet with a sour ting. Certainly pricey considering what you're really getting. Great setting for those on their first dates and "getting to know you" phase. Love the Twisted Vine! It's a small but cute venue and the ambiance is very chill. A good place for chilling with your girls, friends, or a date! We had the Artisan Cheese (Small) + Artisan Meat (Small), it came combined in one large square dish. The food was presented very aesthetically. (My favorite is the blue cheese-ish one and you dip in it the honey. Amazing pairing that really accentuates both flavors that are incredibly delicious when combined. Also don't forget to try the Baked Brie. This is to die for! The cheese is super yummy. My friend Eunice never really liked cheese her whole 24 years of life, until I made her try the Baked Brie here and she even went home to try to make it herself. Pretty much I changed her life to liking cheese from this Baked Brie at Twisted Vine. All that is a pretty nice amount for about 4 girls. I LOVED this place! Went on a Friday night - super packed. The hostess was nice enough to let us give her our number to text when our table got closer though. My friend and I waited for her text across the street while chilling on a mixed drink ^_^ We ordered the red wine flight. 2011 Cateau d'Agel, 2010 Stepping Stone, and 2010 Eponymous. The Stepping stone paired very well with the large meat platter that we ordered. The Eponymous was nice to just relax on. The Chateau d'Agel didn't do much for me. We also ordered the flatbread and the Brie! Cheeses galore :) Brie: Creamy Brie cheese baked in a sourdough bowl, served with toasted bread and apples for dipping. Finally tried out pub crawling in Downtown Fullerton. First stop, Twisted Vine. I wanted to get light bites before we checked out the club, so this was a great place. There's a parking lot in the back and street parking in the front, but at about 7:30P, everything was packed. My sister and I walked in and the place was crowded, but it is also pretty small, so it would get filled pretty quickly. The ambience was really cool, very sophisticated. There are tables with couches, and some bar tables w/ chairs and of course seating at the bar. There were available seats at the bar, so we grabbed them before anyone else did. For app's we ordered the empanadas, small plate of meats and cheese. I ordered the pinot noir and my sister ordered the flight of wine for $15 which gave her 3 glasses of different wines: pinot grigio, cab, and shiraz. Although it didn't seem like a lot of food and beverages, it was enough to satisfy our hunger and make us feel relaxed. Although the crowd is mixed, it is a little on the older side. Twisted Vine is hands down my favorite place in DTF....definitely attracts an older more classy crowd as compared to the rest of the establishments in this neighborhood. Ha. Came here on two separate occasions and I enjoyed it both times! The decor is modern, romantic, dim lighting, wooden barrels, walls are lined with wine bottles and it felt quite cozy! There is a bar area, communal areas with couches and nice wooden coffee-esque tables, plus some bar tables with bar stools. I loved the ambiance! The bartenders and servers were extremely informative and knowledgable on the selection of beer and wine, not to mention friendly too! Our party ordered the wine flight and they informed us that they rotate the wine&beer very frequently. Baked Brie!!!!!! This was amazing! Melted ooey gooey goodness brie cheese in a sourdough bread bowl and served with toasted bread and apples. Nom nom nom. My wife loves Twisted Vine. I am much less enamored. We visited yesterday evening. What has always struck me about Twisted Vine is the air conditioning. Yesterday was no exception. The place is always cold. Just cold enough so that eventually it becomes uncomfortably so. Perhaps they are aiming for wine cellar temperature. It's cold. Wear a jacket, a coat, a sweater or layer. The wine selections are fine. I have always been satisfied with Twisted Vine's wine menu, though the menu is a bit short. Thats fine because the menu seems to be updated regularly. At least updated enough so that with my occasional visits the menu is always new. Twisted Vine has moderately priced wines selected for value. Good wines, good price. Last night we ordered a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato bisque to share and we each ordered a white wine. The food was good. The grilled cheese is simple, but tasty. The cheese is a white cheese, perhaps emmenthaler. The sandwich is toasted Panni style. The soup was rich and flavorful with a dash of fresh basil as garnish. The soup came at a good temperature, at the edge between warm and hot; but not so hot that it could not be eaten upon service. The problem last night was the temperature at which the wine was served. Both glasses were delivered to the table with condensation forming on the outside of the glass at the level of the wine. That is not right. That is too cold. Our first taste of the wine was disappointing. It was clear both wines had potential to be rich, intense, palatable and silky, but the temperature of the wine was blocking the wine's best qualities. Both my wife and I took our goblets in our hands for about five minutes to warm our wine to a more agreeable temperature. (Not a pleasant experience, given the restaurant itself is already cold.) The wine was very good on second taste. Twisted Vine isnt the first restaurant where our wine has been served too cold. It happens. Usually it happens at restaurants where the wine is a second, or third, thought. Twisted Vine is a wine shop. Twisted Vine should always be conscious of how they are presenting the one product that is their reason for being. When moisture is condensing on the outside of the glass the wine is too cold. Now, I've never been the type to make a big fuss about anniversaries in relationships, girls that do that whole 1 month, 3 month, 6 month bullshit I do not and can not understand you. The worst are the ones that celebrate their 2 week anniversary, seriously what tha f*ck is that about? However with Pinky away working I didn't expect to see him at all on our first real anniversary and even had some backup plans (ie: clubbing) just in case. Well whaddaya know, turns out Pinky is a bigger romantic than me, showing up with flowers, gifts, chocolate and card in tow then whisking me off to Twisted Vine. We arrived around past 9 on a Saturday night and it was packed, at first we were a bit confused as to what to do bc there was no check-in stand near the door but actually in the middle of the place. When we got to the check in every employee who passed by was super friendly and nice. We asked for outside patio seating which was much more cozier and better for us as we wanted a more romantic ambiance as opposed to the loud bustling environment the inside offered. We didn't really know what to order as far as wines went just bc Pinky isn't picky as long as it's good and I didn't want to order anything that was too expensive and blow all of Pinky's money. Our server was nice enough although our chemistry was a bit awkward just bc we're more quiet compared to his dominant personality...however he was able to suggest 3 wines for us which out of the 3 we chose the 2009 Obsidian Ridge Cab. Now Idk if it's because they either used an aerator or decanted the wine prior to pouring, but damn that was some pretty good wine. Nice and smooth, delicious actually. Later that evening another server suggested the 'Guns Buns' cuvee that we got a bottle of, it was alright, but definitely wasn't on par with the Obsidian Ridge and we felt a bit regretful that we didn't stick with it. Being at Twisted Vine we OF COURSE had to get the baked brie which was absolutely yummers! The croutons were toasted just right, with a bit of a crisp yet soft enough to enjoy without scraping the roof of your mouth and a hint of garlicky goodness. The apples were okay although Pinky really liked them... I would have preferred grapes even if I couldn't dip them. Marinated olives with feta, Pinky got this for me knowing I love olives.. and it was a perfect accompaniment to the creamy brie along the good wine. What I really enjoyed was the fact that the olives were not overly salty and brined, at first I thought the addition of feta was going to be overkill in the salt factor of the dish, but bc the olives themselves were mellowed out through the marinating the feta worked well. Deviled eggs with chorizo was Pinky's pick because supposedly Pinky loves deviled eggs... I think that these were a bit too jazzy for him with the addition of the chorizo. Pinky's a simple guy and sometimes he likes things to be kept OG and this was one of them. I personally thought the eggs were fine, although I could've used a little sweetness to them with relish/cornichons/bread&butter pickles... or maybe even a little drizzle of a balsamic reduction or topping to contrast with the creamy savoriness of the yolk filling. Not bad just not amazeballs. Grilled cheese panini with tomato bisque, for the price and portion I was expecting this to blow me out of of the water and praise it as the best grilled cheese ever. It was good, don't get me wrong...ooey gooey cheese is never a bad thing and overall the plate tasted like a hybrid of spaghetti+pizza. Pinky said he still prefers the classic grilled cheese with American processed cheese though. Manchengo meatballs was probably the least favorite for us that night, the meatballs were a bit... hard/dry(?) and the gravy was a bit boring. It had some flavor, but nothing popped...although I liked that they gave us toasts to dip into the gravy. The toast with gravy was the best part of the dish until our server who suggested the Obsidian told us to pour some gravy into our baked brie...we did and it was goooood. Although I don't know if it necessarily made the brie dish alone taste better bc it was already good, but it sure made the gravy taste yummier. By the end of our meal we were stuffed, stuffed from all the carbs we ate... next time I'll try the charcuterie plate as well as the mushrooms bc those looked really yummy with a bottle of Obsidian Ridge. Compared to other tapas/wine bars the pricing is about the same and it just comes down to whether or not you want to keep it low key & local or drive 20+ miles and rub elbows with hipsters at places like Animal (that is if you order their $20 house wine). read more

Let me start off by saying 'Stuffed French Toast Empanadas.' Really, this place deserves every star just for preparing this one dessert aka 'Heaven In Your Mouth!' You can hear the angels sing with every bite. On a serious note, this dish is served with 2 Empanadas stuffed with an amazingly decadent French Toast. They are garnished with warm maple syrup, powdered sugar and a whipped butter that is so creamy and sweet, it can be mistaken for ice cream. I come here often as it's walking distance from my home. Typically, I order a glass of Pinot Noir and the small meat plate. The small plate is served with 3 beautiful meats, chimuchurri sauce with a perfectly baked loaf of bread, olives and cantaloupe. This order never disappoints. We decided to go out of our norm and also try the Short Rib Panini. This was so delicious! From the bread to the sauce, to the meat that melted in our mouth...this plate was very tasty! We also tried the Cilantro Salad. Again, another order for the win! *Other favorite plates we've had include the Chorizo Crostinis, Caprese Skewers, Portabella Mushrooms and the Grilled Flatbread. All of which are nothing less than delightful! Another dessert we tried (yes, we ordered 2!) was the Cheesecake. This variation was light, smooth and had no crust. Instead, it almost had a thick mousse texture and was sprinkled with a crumble. As I've stated, I come here often and I have never had a bad or even satisfactory experience. I love the Baked Brie!! My friend and I have started coming here regularly. Just for the baked brie. That's how good it is! They also have a really nice selection of wine and beers. But honestly, I'd come here even if I didn't feel like drinking.. again- for the baked brie. I've also tried their artichoke bread, pesto pasta, and a salad I don't remember the name of. They were fine- the pesto pasta was a little on the bland side. The service is pretty good! The waiters are really nice and they promptly bring over your drinks once you've ordered them. The lighting is a little dim here, and although I think most people are OK with that- I'm sure there are people who find it annoying. So we moved to another table and I told the waitress I wanted to order again so i said that charcuterie platter but she said really loud and I thought was rude, her rude voice loudly said "aren't you celiac disease"? We had: Tomato bisque soup: Super creamy so it became really heavy towards the end. Still, it was a good soup. Chorizo crostini: Solid. Garlic basil pasta with chicken: I wouldn't say this was terrible but it was just okay. The pasta was overcooked and the seasoning just wasn't there, creating a really bland dish . =( So think of this place as an expensive wine bar. This winebar is so cute! I like the ambiance, dark enough to make it relaxed and loungey, but not impersonal. I came here with one of my girlfriends and we were immediately seated. We were not exactly sure what to order so we asked one of the people that works there for some advice. They let us try 3 different wines before we ordered. We ended up ordering the Moscato, even though I usually drink red wine I was pleasantly surprised by the Moscato. The Moscato was sweet and slightly bubbly. When I was done with my Moscato I got the beer sampler which was good, but I really enjoy beer so that is just my personal opinion. As for food we the caprese skewers, baked brie, and chocolate fondue. The skewers were so cute and just bite sized, but packed with flavor. the baked brie was good, but once we were about 1/2 through we were over it, and the chocolate fondue was good, but we didn't think it paired well with the green apple slices. First time going on a Saturday night and absolutely loved it! The spring wine flight was great and my husband did a bear flight. The food and service were amazing as well. Very nice and friendly staff. The atmosphere is very relaxed and not stuffy at all. We will definitely be coming back. I came here for my friend's going away gathering. I had no prior knowledge of this place so I had no expectations going in. WOW was i surprised! They have pretty amazing food here :) It wasnt mediocre, decent or okay. It was DELICIOUS! We ordered brie bowl, pasta, and salad. Everything tasted so great! I highly recommend trying this place at least once if you're in the Downtown Fullerton area. The cherry on the top was of course the fact that they had a wide selection of wine to choose from. We ordered a certain brand of Cabernet Sauvignon (Pride) and it definitely had good aroma and flavor. The server there was sweet and gave us a birthday dessert plate for all of us to share even though it wasnt any of our bdays! Having had two bottles of wine and doing a family style sharing of dishes, our total for each person came out to $40? It wasnt bad for the quality of food and wine! My husband and I are always on the lookout for places we can go to unwind. We especially relish finding locations where the noise level doesn't require us to wear earplugs or scream at the top of our lungs to be heard. The Twisted Vine exceeded our expectations. I had a long day at work and wanted to go somewhere that wouldn't be filled with screaming children, yet also wasn't just a "bar." It's so hard to find adult oriented places today where two people can just chill, chat, and recharge for a bit. Twisted vine has an inviting atmosphere. It's almost like a cool, hip coffee house vibe, but instead serves beer and wine and edible delights. The prices are very reasonable and the food was much more varied compared to what I was expecting from a place I thought was going to be just a "wine bar." There were appetizers, flat bread pizza, salads, soups, panini sandwiches, and charcuterie boards. They even offered a fair assortment of desserts to go with their dessert wines. My hubby ordered the Italian Panini sandwich with tomato bisque soup, and I ordered the flatbread with roasted tomatoes, mozzarella, and prosciutto. Our food was delicious and the bisque was one of the best I've EVER had. It was not too watery, and there was a bit of "texture" to the soup to make it a bit more substantial. In addition, the Panini was layered with meats and cheese and didn't seem like the restaurant was trying to skimp on the filling. The flatbread was very good, too. The crust was cooked to perfection. There was some crispness and chewiness to the crust (I like a bit of both. I don't like to feel like I'm eating a burnt piece of toast). The cheese, the prosciutto, and tomatoes all tasted fresh and complemented each other perfectly. My only regret about the Twisted Vine is that my hubby and I didn't find it SOONER. We will definitely be going back again. I hope their vibe NEVER changes or gets and "update." This place is perfect "as is." read more

Came here for a bachelorette party around three and it was totally empty. It was a nice change to come to downtown Fullerton early, when it's not so ratchet and college towney. The owner gave us a hard time about sitting on the couch. He said those are reserved seats but our group was literally the only people in the restaurant. He eventually warmed up to us and gave the bride to be a free glass of champagne and gave us a tip to not tip on the tab because tip is automatically included in a large group tab. read more

Wine flight comes out all at once. If you get white wine, it is lukewarm once you get to the last one. Male servers were all nice, but unlucky for us, our female server was incredibly rude. On top of that, they posted they would reopen at 630, but instead kept us waiting until 6:50 with no apology. On the brighter side, their brie soup bowl was worth the rudeness and the wait... just a little odd the one good thing about this wine bar was a snack. read more

Twisted Vine is a nice little date spot for wine and beer lovers for anyone nearby. Drinks-wise, they're focused on various wines and some beers as well. Probably the best deals to go for are the wine flights which are around +$10. The only note that my date made was that the wines were all of the same type and would've liked to have seen a mix. We also got an individual wine that wasn't on the flight (a mixture of moscato and riseling) which was probably the best wine we had and came out to around $15 for the glass. They also have bottles available as well. We also got the three-cheese plate and the three-meat plate. The cheese were pretty good and came with jam/honey/fruit/nuts. The meats were all salami-based (again, a note was that we wish there were a few more different types). Still, the overall taste wasn't bad and nice to snack on. Service was fairly nice although I do wish they came around a little more often (do know that the night seemed pretty slow though so I understand). The decor was a bit darker (again, helping to contribute to that 'romantic' atmosphere). Parking-wise, there's some street parking available (make sure to pay heed to the signs) as well as parking in the plaza behind the restaurant (again, take heed of the signs although you'll get more time int he lots). Definitely would recommend Twisted Vine as a nice first spot (or last) for an intimate night or just if you like some wines. read more

I love this place!! It would have been an easy five stars if it wasn't for the service. My girlfriends and I have been dying to come here, and after weeks of planning, we finally made it. There were 5 of us and we came around 630 on a Saturday. I was afraid it would be crowded and we'd have to wait for a table, but luckily we scored the last one big enough for our group. Only a few of us came on time, and our server kept continuously asking us if we were ready to order. Uh, no we were not because we were waiting for the rest of our party, which she knew, yet kept nagging us to the point where she was visibly getting annoyed, and we were feeling uncomfortable. Maybe it was the same lady that was serving Diana I... We ordered a bottle of riesling and 4 dishes to share, which seemed to perk up our server. Throughout our meal she switched off with another girl who was much friendlier and attentive than her. Baked Brie- amaaaaaaazing!! I was drooling over photos of this for weeks, so I couldn't wait to dip the bread in the cheesy ooey goodness and shovel it in my mouth. The brie was warm and gooey and just SO yummy. When you've scraped off all the brie you can from the inside of the bread bowl, they'll cut it into pieces for you so you can continue to enjoy it down to the last crumbs! I want to go back just for this... nommmmmmm. Meatballs- made of chorizo, manchego cheese, and ground beef served in a broth with toasted pieces of bread on the side. The meatballs were good, you could definitely taste the mix of meat and cheese inside, but the broth didn't see as rich and creamy as they describe it. Chipotle pasta- BEWARE this definitely has a kick to it!! The pieces of chicken in it were big, and the pasta was good in a creamy sauce. Antipasto salad- so fresh and yummy. The chunks of meat and cheese were big, and the dressing was light and flavorful. All the dishes were delicious and a good amount for the 5 of us to share. I definitely want to come back here though, the place is so perfect for a girls night out or a date. The patio in the back seems like it would be great for summer nights too. read more

Went here for the first time with a friend last week. Let me just start by saying, I am a wine noob. I mean, I know the basics - smell, look, taste. I know how to tell if it has a high alcohol content or if it is an older or younger wine. Besides that, I know nothing. I prefer red wines. Specific red wine? *shrugs* Surprise me. I asked the waiter // sommelier for a suggestion & he recommended the Chehalem Pinot Noir. It was delicious. It had a nice balance of flavors, not too bitter, not too strong, not too sweet - just right. We also ordered a small cheese platter. [See pic] I am not by any means a fan of cheese. In all honesty, I actually kind of disliked cheese. Not anymore. The cheese was of excellent quality. The honey had an actual cluster in it & combined with the brie was just ... amazing. I don't know why i waited so long to write this review. My favorite spot in DTF :) i just love this place. Great for catching up with a couple of friends and also a good date spot. Ambiance is great. Dimmed lights. People chit chatting. They also have an outdoor seating area. Food is great here. Service is always excellent as well. They have a good beer selection as well. * You must get the baked brie. It comes in a bread bowl warm and ready with croutons and green apples to dip. When it starts getting empty, cut that sucker up. *Empanadas come in 3. I've had all of them and all are really good. *Their pastas are pretty bland. *Cheese & meat platters yumm.
