My family and I ate here a month or so ago and it was incredible. We had to wait a little while for the food, but it was absolutely worth it. This place is passable. I got the pulled pork arepa's, fried chicken curry, and chickpea fires (and bubble tea). The pulled pork arepa's really disappointed me... how can you go wrong with a pulled pork arepa??? well they managed it... it was some decent pulled port pilled on top of a sad soggy little biscuit. If they had just kept it simple and made it like a real arepa then it would have been great but they failed. good idea, bad execution... (my last room mate was from Uruguay and I have had real arepa's made by his parents so I know what I am talking about) The coconut chicken curry was decent. The chicken seemed dry and the whole dish was underwhelming but decent. I have a sneaking suspicion (i know) they used curry powder in it. This is the cardinal sin of all curry making.... I was excited about the chickpea fires. I thought they might be a spin on falafel. Sadly I was wrong... they were bland and flavorless. They were supposed to some with some sort of salsa but they came with a bland mayo that sucked. Again another good idea with poor execution... seems to be the story of this restaurant read more

This place is amazing! It is a small family owned restaurant with great service. It's tiny but with an extremely interesting menu. The hisbiscus tea is amazing and I can't get enough of the macaroni and cheese and empanadas! I went to their restaurant last week because I couldn't stop the craving and the only complaint I have is that it took about 25 minutes to get my order...it really wasn't that busy either. Today i experienced the worst beef dumplings I've ever had. The filling was hard as a rock and had fallen out of the dumping shells. The jasmine sticky rice was bland and over cooked. I am a professional chef and have never had a worse meal. Not once during my lunch was i asked how my food or experience was. After paying i was asked by an employee how my food was like any normal human would i answered honestly. i answered that the dumping were no good they were very tough. At this point the employees walked away. As i left i brought a piece of the filling to the owner to show him this inferior product. When i told him i felt the beef was ever worked n therefore was tough he told me no. That there is nothing added to the filling. With the beef in my hand i pointed out the herbs that were inside the filling how the meat ad been mixed in there kitchen. He proceeded to snatch the filling from my hand and kicked me and my guests out of the restaurant"restaurant". By far that was the worst food, service and overall dining experience I've had in my 16 years as a chef. I would tell all to stay away and if you go don't question anything. Ok. I'm not sure why there are so many four and five star rating for Twisted Soul. I ate there a while back and was not impressed. Upon walking in there was an aroma of bleach and feces. Really disgusting if you ask me. My date and I ordered three empanadas, chick pea fries, noodle bowl with tofu, and a taro bubble tea. The empanadas were ok, to say the least. They were lacking in filling and was left unsatisfied. The chimuchurri was too strong with the taste of vinegar.the chick pea fries were underseasoned. The sauce that came with it was absolutely disgusting. I don't know what it was, but it tasted off. The noodle bowl was horribly bland and lacking garnishment. It was like dirty sink water. The bubble tea was horrible. How is it possible to screw up bubble tea? You add flavor powders to water and blend. The drink was chalky and tasted like someone spilled a bottle of perfume in the mix. It didn't taste like taro the least bit. The bill somwhere around $25. A little steep for the quality and amount of food. We left still hungry and dissatisfied. Based on the rave reviews, I tried this place. I especially was excited to know of a Bubble tea place without going to Kingston. Unfortunately, this isn't it. The menu is, as they say in the city, doing the most. Perhaps that's why they can't get something done perfectly? The food is underwhelming. The girls at the register are disgustingly rude. Chick mean mugs me like she's doing me a favor and then can't even say one courteous sign that she has manners or home training while I ordered and paid. May I help you? Do you need assistance ordering? Have you been here before? Please? Thank you? I guess she wasn't trained in normal etiquette. Then the manager (?) Rolled her eyes, walked away, only to come back blabbing on the phone in Spanish so loudly that I had to yell over her for the other cashier to hear me. I won't be back here. I have no patience for stank females' attitudes. I have enough of my own and I could spend money supporting a business with nice cashiers. Furthermore, the Thai tea looks like black tea, the food is not authentic and I really wish people as a whole would stop thinking they can cook all cuisines just because they like how it tastes when that culture makes it well. read more

This place is so random. If you are an indecisive diner, you will probably stare at the menu for 30 minutes and get scared and leave -- there are just too many choices, and they're so diverse that it's hard to narrow down and commit to options. But, the quality of the food is such that I'm sure that they could move into a bigger, fancier space and cater really well to larger groups. I went with a group of six, and they weren't busy, so they were able to squeeze a couple of tables together for us. There is zero ambiance. Every time the door opened, we froze. But, as soon as the food started showing up, we forgot all about it and just had a great time eating. The steamed buns are the fold-over variety, and the fillings are amazing. The bubble teas are slightly overpriced, but enjoyable. I had a special banh mi that was great. We ordered about fifteen dishes between all of us -- rice bowls, noodle bowls, arepas, mac n cheese, dumplings, empanadas -- and everyone was satisfied with their choices. read more

While visiting Poughkeepsie NY i stopped for lunch with my family at Twisted Soul. My daughter ordered the glass noodles with tofu. She said it was phenominal. My wife and i ordered udon noodles with pork. Their signiture curry sauce is absolutely delicious, and i am generally not such a fan of curry. The place is clean, staff is great, friendly service. i was really looking forward to my first visit to twisted soul. The bad ass sticky rice with smoked tofu is simply...bad. There were two small pieces of cashew, no dried mangos and as for the smoked tofu...it was smoked away to resemble little dry square chips. It was basically, all tasteless rice. The african salad had the taste of oil, nothing else. And the grilled tofu dish had some kind of bottled barbeque sauce spread on the tofu with three very small pieces of plantain. So basically I paid $29 dollars for rice and some oily greens. Over priced (and they were overcharging me for the badass rice) and tasteless. Very, very disappointing. If you are looking for a healthy, savory meal, i say go look else where. read more

It would help a lot if they would clean up the menu a little bit, it's very scattered and overwhelming. The décor isn't quite up to par and could use some overall organizing. It unfortunately reminds me of a school cafeteria. But the food is rather tasty. It takes a long time for everything to come out but that's because they make it all fresh. The bubble teas and smoothies may be some of the best items there, along with the empanadas. It is also very pricey. Twisted Soul is one of my very favorite restaurants in Poughkeepsie. The people who work behind the counter are very nice and helpful. Dietary needs are definitely taken into consideration here, with both vegan and gluten free items on the menu. The menu itself is pretty extensive, but there's always something new and interesting to try. My favorites are the empanadas (the vegetarian varieties) and the Ethiopian barbecue tofu arepas. There is a wide variety of cupcakes and drinks. My husband and I have gotten take-out or eaten in here several times this year, and it has turned into an old stand-by for us. read more

I've been eating there since it was on Main Street; I read a review in the Poughkeepsie Journal and became a regular. I don't want to call the food simple, because it isn't, but it's usual a few ingredients, prepared well. The chef likes combining flavors from different cuisines, which in part reflect his travels, and they usually have a few specials as well. The drinks are all very good, as are the cupcakes.
