Not a safe place to eat if you value your health. Twice I've eaten at the bar and watched them sweep the floor w\out covering the condiments. Saw a barback put on gloves to pickup the rubber floor matt's & sweep under them, then with the same gloves and a rag laying on the counter he wiped down the pickle station! After he finished he put the floor mats back down & still with the same pair of gloves, he began to wipe down tables. The men's bathroom toilet was 'out of order' as well as out of paper towels. Not a good start to my first trip to Texas. Thought the outside looked great and burgers sounded good. But the place was messy, other customers were being obnoxiously loud, and the overall look of the restaurant looked trashy. Worn stickers on the back of chairs, plastic seats outside, no good landscaping outside (random blocks of wood sitting on a picnic table?). But I was most upset that I couldn't even finish my burger. Our order was wrong and then my burger definitely wasn't cooked enough. Only positive things I have to say is that the blood orange lemonade was something interesting and new (but it tasted like coconut?) and the peanut butter brownie milkshake was great. I honestly love Twisted Root and as the first one I've ever been to that has tons of parking and seating, I had to give this location a long overdue shoutout. I've been here a couple of times, since it's so close to my bf's parents house. Each time they deliver fast and delicious food with a sprinkle of fun. The burgers are outrageous. I love to get the salad option, because these are fall-apart good. They have a few adventurous meats, but I mostly stick to my main animal, cow. What's the most delightful part is their specialty pickles. You can get them ranch flavored, hot, sweet, or regular. I would go to just eat pickles if they'd let me. They are seriously addicting. How could you not love this place??? Boozy milkshakes, a pickle bar, and fun names for your order? Count me in! I had the Tex-Mex burger with fried pickles on the side. I couldn't finish my burger, but it was not for lack of trying. It was delicious, but it was massive, and that on top of the pickles was too much to try to stuff it all in. The pickles came with a chipotle ranch dipping sauce which complimented them well. My friend had the S'mores shake which was AH-MAZING, as was the banana & Bailey's shake! Even though the food is the most important when going to a food joint, I appreciate when the location itself is cute. The place itself looks like a joint where I'd go and hangout often. It is cute, funky, and it has outdoor perfect for summer nights. A bonus is the giant Jenga game they have outside. Since I do live in California I wanted to try a whole meal. Burger, fries, and a shake. Looking through the menu I did notice a section called exotic meats which included kangaroo, rabbit, beaver, etc. BUT I saved that for another visit. Instead I got the mushroom burger (beef patty), hand-cut fries, and a peanut butter & brownie shake. The burger was delicious! You did have to add your condiments yourself but it wasn't a big deal. The fries were also good not over or undercooked. As for the shake......idk. It was good flavor wise but the consistency was not my favorite. Felt too thick like the consistency of actual peanut butter not so much of a shake. Maybe I should have waited till it melted a bit to really enjoy it. I gave the rest to my sister she didn't seem to mine so I guess depends on the person. So yea I'd definitely come back again. Good food& good vibes. read more

Nothing special here but reasonable for sure. Burgers were well crafted and decent but definitely on the "don't come close to serving anything even slightly pink in the middle" part of the cooking scale. Little overcooked for my liking. I got the Big Tex and it was fine but bbq sauce and guacamole on one burger is a weird combo. Buns were excellent, high marks there. They have barrels of different pickles to choose from which is fun and everything but I felt the bread and butter, regular dill, and sweet and spicy options all fell pretty flat for me. The atomic and ranch were better but still not amazing. I didn't feel the need to add any of them to my burger. We got the cracklins which are basically just funky cut fries, I think they call them a cross between fries and potato skins but for me they were just a little weird on texture and for sure inconsistent. The fried pickles were sliced too big and the moisture from the pickle slice made the breading soggy. Wouldn't recommend those. All in all it's a decent eating experience, not gross or anything and reasonably priced, just don't go around telling anyone that it's the best burger you've ever had because you're going to let them down with that kind of high praise. read more

I brought this to the attention of staff and I received two shrugs and a "you should have come up when your buzzer went off". I should have known better than to expect something awesome in Bedford. I love Twisted Root and thought maybe, just maybe, their awesomeness would be able to survive the wasteland of the mid-cities, but alas. It just doesn't. They have a good patio space, but looking at Big Lots isn't exactly ideal viewing. Inside, it's much tamer than other Twisted Roots I've been to. It almost looked a little lazy in comparison... no RV bar?! So let's talk about the bar. Signs above the bar avow that you will receive full service, so take a seat and skip the line (don't worry, there was no line to speak of). We sat. We waited. I got up and stood at the almost empty bar. And waited. Finally a bartender appears, helps the couple sitting at the bar. I continue to wait. Eventually, I get to order my drink - one draft beer, one bottled. The bottled beer requires her walking to the other end of the restaurant and back into the kitchen to get. It is warm. She asks me to pay for everything rather than open a tab. We wanted a second round, so I made my husband do the waiting. He eventually had to walk down to get her from where she was talking with other coworkers. He asked her to just keep our tab open and she lets him know he will have to hunt her down if we want anything else. Which is true, I had to hunt her down to pay our tab despite her looking directly at me three times. I guess working was cramping her social life. Also, there were next to no beer options. Only six things on tap, a couple of bottles, but nothing compared to the choice available at other locations. Bleh, I'd rather make the trek out to any other location than do this again. read more

It's funny how as soon as a non-terrible place comes into the neighborhood EVERYONE freaks out! Let me warn you, if you go at a peak time you will be waiting FORFREAKINGEVER, there is a line out the door and once you are lucky enough to place your order, you have to wait again to get your food, so I highly recommend to go on a weekday or for a late lunch-early dinner. I had their burgers at the Deep Ellum location a while back and I was unimpressed, but I decided to give them another chance and I am glad I did. Keep in mind that you will be paying about $14 per person after fries and drink, so it's not the cheapest but it's a good bite. Twisted Root. What can I say? They've sat in my bookmarks for years with me planning to try them out; but my favorite restaurant and pub is in the same shopping square, so I never have until recently. As for burgers, the burger was relatively average. Don't get me wrong, it was flavorful and juicy, but it came across as not living up to the hype my subconscious mind created for me. I enjoyed the non-typical meat, such as kangaroo-which was delicious and I have never had it before. I thought the celebrity names they use to call people's orders was also amusing, albeit a bit silly at the same time. So while it's not your typical, average hamburger joint at all, it felt like it was lacking something. I've had lunch here twice this summer - once on Memorial Day weekend and again on Fourth of July weekend. I was surprised to find it wasn't very packed. Parking seems like it could be an issue at this location, though - the lot is pretty small. I'd also like to mention that I think Harwood & Central is an odd placement for a burger joint. It seems out of place to have a new, 'hip' hangout in that area. The building itself is pretty unique looking and hard to miss, inside and out. Here's how it works: you wait in line and look over the menu, grab a can of beer out of the ice chest if you want, then place your order at the cash register. Both times I've gone, the attendant at the register is very friendly! That's such a bonus for me!! (Don't we all get tired of moody teenagers who hate their job?) And they also pop open your can of beer for you. Pretty sweet! Then they hand you a card with some famous name on it like "Daisy Duke" or "Lady Gaga" and send you on your way. If you ordered something on tap, you can head over and it's being made up for you (listed under your name on the card). You can try their different flavored pickles or get a fountain drink (I went with their root beer - pretty good!) It's over $20 for two burgers and two drinks, which I can never fully justify, although it is better than getting a poisonous McD's burger. Their menu is pretty restrictive, and you'd never take your vegetarian friend, but they do have a lot to offer burger-wise and they have game meats like rabbit, elk, emu, and alligator. I'm not brave enough to try them yet... So, you go to your table and wait a few minutes, enjoy your drink, and they call you up by the famous name on your card "Loooonneee Raaangerrrr!!" The burgers are decent, not outstanding, but it's the uniqueness of Twisted Root that I'll continue to go back for, as well as the friendly service I receive. read more

Yesterday marked my first experience with Twisted Root, after a year or so of driving by and wondering what all they had going on inside! It was way more than I was anticipating, although I should have figured this out by now simply by looking at their parking lot at lunch times on weekdays. Thursday, lunchtime, 12pm and they were slammed. I had to park in the lot next door and walk over! Lucky for me, it as a pretty day outside! Every employee inside was hustling, and bustling taking orders at the registering, working the line in the kitchen and cleaning tables inside. The lady at the cash register answered my sister and I's questions quickly, but not hurriedly (she definitely knew her stuff!) and kept the line moving at a great pace. We placed our orders (a basic burger with american cheese and jalepenos for sister *hold the bun* and a Kevin Bacon (blue cheese and bacon) for me!) and then hit the bar to order up some Bloody Mary's. The manager who doubled as a bartender whipped us up some awesome and HUGE drinks with a delicious limey salt... for a simple five bucks! Extra spice for us too. These Bloody Mary's delivered I tell you! Back to the burgers... ON POINT! They were cooked exactly the way we asked (speak up! or they are prepared medium well!) and a large portion for around $10 each. The sweet potato chips that I ordered on the side were awesome; I'd never had anything like them before! They were slightly dessert like, but hey. Burgers, Bloody Mary's and dessert chips make a lovely, lovely Thursday lunch! read more

My husband and I wanted to find a place for lunch that had a fun atmosphere. We found it at Twisted Root. They have a friendly staff, music and free pickles from barrels in a variety of flavors while you wait for your order. Comfortable, spacious seating and big picture windows makes it a great place to relax and visit with friends. There are many tempting items on the menu to choose from. We had the mushroom burger. It had a cute name that I can't remember and it was truly delicious. The onion strings were also a great pick. A variety of sauces and ketchup are on each table to try them all. The tea was good and freshly made. Diet Coke would have been a good choice, but no sugar free drinks are offered, besides the tea. If you're a root beer lover this is your place. Yep, we'd recommend it and we'll go again. read more

Everyones food came out after a few mins wait time, except for our one and weird person that got the Bean Burger (yuck). All orders came out correct, except for that all our burgers were over cooked and totally dry. There was no juice or even grease dripping out. Almost felt like we went to one of those fast food joints god forbid. The fries came out hot and fresh, but the sweet potato chips were a little stale and most of us ended up throwing those away. Worst part is this place is only 5 mins away from my house. Oh well. Guess we will have to do our Friday night thing somewhere else, till this place can make some burgers cooked medium. Great TR location, I think it might be one of their newer spots. Love the menu- I've been getting the "Enough Said" burger lately, which is aged cheddar, house-made peppercorn ranch and potato chips. It works- and the crunch of their homemade chips adds something fun to the burger. The prices are a little on the high side, but you're getting a lot of food and the quality is top-notch. I got the burger, side of fries and a soda and it was $12. They have house-made root beer and other fun drinks at the fountain stand, so go crazy. There's also a pickle station with 4-5 variations of pickles (the bread and butter pickles are awesome). So if pickles are your thing, Twisted Root is worth a trip. Beyond burgers there are other options to suit just about any palette. There are salads for the healthy appetite and vegan/vegetarian options as well. Oh, there's gluten-free buns if that's something you're looking for. Milkshakes are made in-house with real ice cream-- there are adult versions as well! Kids menu is good, our little one adores TR burgers and fries. There was a watermelon sweet tea at this location that sounded good. Maybe next time. read more

I've heard about how amazing Twisted Root Burger is and saw them featured on DDD. I was excited when one opened up in the area, and I wouldn't have to drive all the way into Dallas to try it out. First of all, parking is terrible. Obviously there aren't enough spots to accommodate how many people can be inside. I had to park "illegally" against the curb. I was getting a to go order, so I was hoping I could be in and out. Well, I never made it in because there was a sign on the door that stated they are not doing to go orders. I'm not sure why they can't cook the food like a regular order and throw it in a bag...unless they didn't have to go boxes and bags, which I don't understand how a such highly spoken of establishment can open without giving the option of a to go order. Between the atrocious traffic, minimal parking, and lack of to-go service, I haven't tried to go back. read more

A friend and I came here for lunch on Friday. She ordered the mushroom burger, I built my own. The burgers were delicious, but they got them confused, putting my bacon and onion strings on her mushroom burger. Neither her nor myself are the type to freak out about things like that, though - we realized it at the table, and just switched burger toppings! Aside from that little mess-up, it was fantastic! I've been to this new restaurant twice now. I was there the first day, just in time for the evening opening around 5 p.m. I was in there early enough to avoid the huge crowds that were to follow. To drink I ordered a Rahr dark beer (it may have been Iron Thistle). The burgers will be cooked med-well if you don't speak up. I thought that might be too "done" so I ordered mine Medium. Mistake. It was med-rare -- pink all over and very moist. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the burger even though keeping it from falling apart was a challenge. I'm a guppy for blue cheese, really. The fries were good. My next visit was just last night. This time there were people hanging out the door. Instead of standing in line, we knew if we could get a couple seats at the bar we could order and eat there. Luckily a couple left as we came in, and no one snapped up the seats. With bare floors and bare rafters, this place is LOUD. Blaring music is no help either. Seating is crude -- picnic tables and high-top, round tables meant for 2 people. I got the "other" bleu burger, the Wing Style, with buffalo sauce on it, bleu cheese and a thick slice of onion. This time I ordered it med-well. It was, in fact, dry -- markedly different from the first burger I ordered. I mean, this was not a subtle change up the "doneness" scale. I just got water this time and no fries, mainly because I'm on a diet and, well, these burgers are not cheap. The dining experience is poor: loud, terrible parking, uncomfortable seating. Although I'd like to be a "regular" customer, there are nearby burger places that are just as good -- and less expensive.
