Here is a real rarity... I didn't think they even existed anymore. It's a bar where smoking is allowed! Drinks are affordable. The space is a bit run down but comfortable. The bartender is quick to offer a refill. If you don't mind the smoky atmosphere (and for some this is a feature, not a bug) this is a low-key place to chill out. read more

I don't know what it was but out of the blue, we decided to give this place a shot since we've driven past 1,000 times. We're not "bar" people but we decided to hop in on a Monday night and saw the pizza was on special. We have low expectations so a "bar" pizza usually doesn't sound appealing or appetizing in any way. The pizza we received was the most succulent, appealing, delicious pizza that I rank 3rd of my all time pizza. This pizza made me question every decision I have ever made. This pizza is so good that if the owner decides to close down I am going to find them and get the recipe. We have never been regulars at any place whatsoever but now we pop in almost every Monday to get this pizza. You peel a slice off and it takes five swoops to get all the cheese on your plate. The staff knows our pizza order by heart now, especially Annabelle who doesn't even bring us menus any more, she puts our pizza order in right when we walk in the door. Monday is Toadies night for us. We look forward to this pizza. Other food is great too. The chicken tenders are perfect. I hate all other fried pickles now. Atmosphere is fantastic. I watched the Toronto Maple Leafs blow a 3-1 series lead in this place. I go here for Stars games and they got it on the big Tv front-center. We weren't there very long when we were very rudely asked to leave because "we don't want to serve your kind."my beautiful friend is a woman of color and I just can't believe that something like this is still going on in today's day in age. It had been a long time sense my last visit to Toadies bar and grill. I came up because a podcast I listen too did a live remote here, and it was a nice set up. They ended up being a little short staffed but they for sure stepped it up and did a decent job keeping up with things. Gave everyone the chance to stay awhile due to the podcast. Plus everyone was friendly, welcoming & personable. Prices were really reasonable for the drinks that my friends and I got. I did get an order of onion rings at one point and they are outstanding!!! They came out really fast as well. We will for sure consider this place as a stop for drinks if friends are in the area. read more

We were doing a little Sunday Funday around the mid-cities last weekend and asked a bartender at one of our stops where the next stop should be. She directed us to Toadies, which we've driven past a million times, but never been in until now. We walked in and took a seat at the bar, where we were quickly greeted by the very friendly bartender, Josie. She was super cool and while getting our drinks ready, went over the menu and some of the more signature items. Later in the afternoon, they had a shift change and Andrew took over the bar, who was excellent as well. In addition to drinks, we were ready for a snack, so we also ordered a quesadilla and the stuffed jalapenos. Both were excellent, but the jalapenos were a big winner, in particular. Wrapped in bacon and stuffed just right. How can you go wrong? We got a side of sour cream with them as well, which hit the spot. Price-wise, they're totally on level for a bar in this area if not a little cheaper. They are a smoking bar and none of us smoke, but it really wasn't smoky in there at all and we didn't feel we left smelling of it. Great job, Toadies. We'll be back. read more

Yes it's a smoking establishment, but my non smoking friends say it wasn't smoky. Maybe it was our timing, Saturday at 2pm, really not crowded. Went here with a buddy for Mardi Gras tonight because bourbon street was too packed. The food was pretty good. He had the spicy catfish and I had loaded cheese fries. Pretty standard bar food. Price was reasonable. This is a smoking allowed bar which surprised me but I wasnt bothered. It honestly wasted even very smoky for having 3-4 people actively smoking cigarettes. Honestly, Toadies is a TOTAL gem in the HEB area. Josie is the best! Any time we come in, she immediately knows that I'll be having a blue moon, and my husband is having a whiskey coke. Super personable waitress who welcomes us in every time! She's the real goat. Food is ON POINT. It's like.......... stoners paradise. We always come in hungry and there are tons of options for whatever we are in the mood for. Always made to order- always delicious. Love the new changes going on. Everything looks great. Bathrooms are always clean and stocked with toilet paper. Last but not least, another thing I love about toadies is that they play Toadies music frequently. AND THAT SHIT IS LIT. I'm very disappointed in the service and management! I came in and ordered! 20 minutes later, management tells me Pizza takes longer than 20 minutes. I also ordered appetizers and they were cold by the time the pizza was ready. I work in the industry but 20-30 min for a pizza, I could have ordered dominoes! The fact that you schedule one chef is your problem, but I'm a customer and I shouldn't have to suffer. Management talked to me and explained that there was nothing they could do about my food taking as long as it did! No physicality whatsoever just soft as wet charmin politics from Bedford's finest know as a guy named "KB" who toots his own horn. This bar has some great people, patrons & food but I would be remissed if the review was not spot on for reality of certain people being scared of the fact that they need a few more votes in society & not be scared of a sentence or phrase towards them in an antagonizing state. I think I just have an aversion to places that still let you smoke inside. I dunno. It really is average here. I think it's a place that if they know you...then your cool. If they don't know you...then meh. And to boast outside that you have ESPN and Gameday packages, but you only have like 5 TV's all around the bar....that's not that great right? The service at this dive is EXCELLENT and some of the reviews here do not match my experience, so much so that I have stopped lurking and am writing my very first review. I stop into this place four or five times a month during rush hour on my drive from Fort Worth to Dallas. There are a lot of options, but this bar gets most of my business. When I arrive, I get my first beer at the bar and then take a seat at a table. After that, a bartender brings me a new beer when mine gets low and I have only had to wait on a few occasions. The drinks are cheap (a pint of PBR is two bucks and change), there are great specials ($2 any pint on Monday, half-price appetizers and $3 Jack-and-back on other days), and the food is good and a good value - I recommend the pretzel with queso. The lights are dim without making it hard to see and there's an assortment of sports on a lot of televisions, if you care to give that your attention. The televisions are on mute most of the time and a range of music from the late 90s and early aughts is usually playing, typically with an alt-rock bent. For those of you who care, if you're there for a couple hours, you'll probably hear a song by the Toadies \m/ There is smoke in the air, and you will smell like smoke when you leave, but they run a commercial-grade purifier, so it's really pretty mild. If you're looking for a bar in the Mid-Cities that is cheap with quick service, lights that are easy on the eyes, and good pub grub, this fits the bill very nicely. read more
