We walked in and ran straight outside to the patio, the inside smells like an old dirty ashtray. it's the kind of place that you go inside and have to go home and wash your clothes and hair. We were already there so we decided to have a drink on the patio. there is absolutely no ambiance there. We just sat down at a picnic table in the shade. Our server was super nice, she brought drinks outside for us however we did have to go get her and let her know we were not coming inside to order because of the smoke. My first impression of this place is "Damn the smell!". I am not a smoker, so I tend to avoid places that allow smoking indoors. I came in with my friends during the storm and the pub was still pretty busy. Turns out there is trivia on Thursdays. We stayed for trivia, lost horribly but had a great time. Michelle was the server on deck this evening and she was fast and got our orders correct! We ordered Mac and cheese, the sheppies(3 pieces), and the seafood basket. The Mac and cheese was a very large meal. It had white cheese and looked really tasty. The sheppies were tasty, mash potatoes,cheese, gravy, and meat. As for the seafood basket, the fish and shrimp sizes were nice, I felt the fish was a little fishy, the fries were meh, the shrimp were tasty. We've been looking for a nice local place to call OUR local hangout with food above your basic bar fare. I think we found it! Nice ambience, not loud to interfere with conversation. None of the annoying party frat/sorority and loud Pick-Me meat market crowds. More than the basic Coors, Bud Light, Miller beer choices. And good inhouse made foods instead of thawed meat patties, wings, cheese fries from an ordinary bar that I could just make myself at half the cost. Yes they allow smoking however, many other places do not. If you don't like smoke, go somewhere else. Don't come here and complain about it. It may seem weird to give a little pub on the corner a 5, but we have been here three times now and enjoyed all we ate. The steak Mac and cheese may not look pretty, but every part of it tastes amazing. The potatoes skins are above and beyond the normal. My person favorite is the fish and chips of course. They even will toss it in sauce. I highly recommend the garlic Parmesan. We also once went for our first trivia night and had a great time as well. The service is a tad slow, but with our current world I have no real qualms about it. The place can be loud, it's a pub! And they do allow smoking so be prepared. Go get some fish! read more

Absolutely LOVE come here, I was looking for something new for my husband for his birthday. We completely enjoyed the atmosphere the staff was friendly. It was clean but it is a smoking establishment so if you don't like smoke this isn't the place for you. The food was delicious I got Mac and Cheese with steak strips which is something I wouldn't normally order but the picture it look delicious an it was. My husband loved his food also (I can't remember what he ordered I think it was seafood. We will definitely be going back I have to try their cottage pie (shepherd pie). read more

One of my top restaurant experiences! I love black and tans and half and half so the first experience was just a stop for drinks. But the food was delicious and perfectly made. It was always crowded and a bit of a wait but even the bar seating with my daughter was a good experience. It's a very popular place so get there early. Irish Breakfast and scotch bonnets are a must try. read more

Danny's is a unique place, I will give it that. Tucked away, you almost miss it. Anyone who has read my reviews know that I often use Showdown as a descriptor of a place that is dive-y, yet charming. The kind of place where the smoke smell is tolerable. Here, not so much. I walked in (in my mask) and the place was POPPIN. Like an early Friday night - but on a Wednesday at 5:30. It was like the record skipped. Everyone looked, and some laughed. The bar was packed, with TONS of rowdy (and raunchy) conversation. That was overshadowed by a cigarette smoke smell so strong I was sure that the air freshener had to be "pack of Marlboro" scent. As I waited for my food, I noticed the owner sitting in a single chair in the middle of the dining room smoking cigarettes with a mask in her hand. No one on the staff had one (including the cooks) and the young lady that helped me (seemingly reluctantly) lit a cigarette in the middle of the dining room. I didn't react o that, or the poor service, but she treated me with hostility, but she was also one of the people looking at me crazy with my mask. (Once again - masks are not a political indicator, people). With that - the food was wonderful. I had my doubts, even before I walked in, but it was delicious. My Yelp friend Bradley already knows - FISH AND CHIPS! It was that thick beer batter, crispy but juicy on the inside. It was fresh and served steaming hot. Certainly in my top 10 that I have had. The fries were great too. They had a seasoning that was something else. I can tell, this place is jumping with a mixed crowd, and would be a fun night spot post-pandemic (NOT RIGHT NOW!), but that cigarette smoke is just overwhelming. Additionally, as I walked out a group of guys that were very much "regulars" were kind of heckling, so I am not sure about the overall vibe. I don't know that I will return, but if I do, it will be for a TO-GO order, and I will not wear anything I'm not prepared to have soaked in that cigarette smoke smell. Not even a mask. read more

My best friend & I went here one day after a long week at work. She is a smoker. I am not. She loved it cause she could smoke, that was my minus 1 star, smelled like an old Smokey dive bar. I did not know there were any restaurants left that allowed smoking. My husband, a friend and her husband, got a coupon for Danny's Celtic Pub and the British dishes they advertised sounded wonderful. We found it without any trouble, and they have what I would call a double entry. These are common up north where you have messy snow winters & want a place out of the storm to stamp your feet and keep the cold wind from getting in to the pub where it could quick chill anyone sitting near the door. Long story short, that was as far as we got. I felt like I had walked into, I don't know what any more. Shelly squinted her eyes and waved the air with her hand and asked what took all the oxygen. I opened the door to the Pub and it was worse. You could see a cloud from the ceiling down to about people's shoulders. Shelly's husband remarked, we're not going in there. Back in the parking lot Shell and myself agreed that just that small entry, our hair smelled of cigarette smoke. Is this really allowed today? read more

Replace the grumpy male bartenders and hire back the 2 hot bartenders from a few years ago..I could get a drink anywhere in Bedford so at least act like you appreciate me coming in. Also, if you spend more than 10 minutes inside this bar, even if nobody is smoking, you will leave with the scent of cigarette smoke on your skin and clothes. This place has potential, but I get the impression that the owner just wants to have her own version of Cheers, whether it makes good money or not. We ordered the fried fish, Shepis, and the fabulous bowl of mac & cheese! All were delicious! It's clean and there's space outside to sit on such a lovely day. This pub is everything a pub should be. It's got a definite local "Cheers bar" feel with old wooden bar stools, classic laminated wooden tables and bar, plenty of regulars, a full menu filled with delicious Irish/UK dishes and beer. It's also more than your regular bar, with a giant projector TV to watch all the sports games, a perfect patio to bring your dog to and they have a Galaga arcade machine in the corner.. which... is my game and I challenge you to beat my score. Also, in true old pub form, this is a SMOKING bar. When I say smoking... you really need to brush your teeth after coming here, it is nearly unbearable if you are not a chain smoker yourself. I myself, do not smoke, but I find the atmosphere endearing, and a true experience and I accept all people's habits/vices. You also get used to it after a while. Service can sometimes be slow if you aren't sitting at the bar and they are understaffed, but everyone is really helpful and they've got great specials. I'm glad you exist, Danny's. Definitely would not recommend this place if you have small children, even though they are open for lunch/during the day. I came to Danny's Celtic Pub with a few friends on a Thursday night, and it was pretty poppin' inside! It's a simple bar in a simple, slowly burgeoning spot in Bedford (Twisted Root just opened in the same shopping center). I'm excited to see successful businesses popping up at the intersection of Harwood Road and Central Drive. It's never been the most up-to-date or exciting area, but new spots like Danny's Celtic Pub definitely brighten it up and are drawing much needed attention. Danny's is owned and managed by a husband and wife team who wanted to bring a little Irish authenticity and pride to the area. You'll find a full menu with goodies like fish n' chips, shepherd's pie, bangers n' mash, and scottish eggs, as well as hotdogs, burgers, salads, appetizers, and side dishes galore. Some creatives stand out, like the Irish nachos and mac-n-cheese with fajita meat. It's seriously a huge food menu, and it's all served until 10. Now, the drink menu isn't particularly unique, but it's solid and the pours are generous. There's only one cider option - Angry Orchard - but that's fine by me. Pretty standard bar activities going on in here; dart throwing, jukebox playing, dudes ordering Guinness after Guinness. There's a small stage in the back corner where small bands can play, and there are TV's a plenty for game watching. It's not very dim inside, like most bars tend to be. Danny's is a little too bright with yellow light for my liking, but maybe that's for the best? All in all, I like it here just fine. I'll go back to Danny's for a cider and a baked potato. Or garlic mashed potatoes. Or potato skins. Or shepherd's pie, because... potatoes. There's all kinds of potatoes on this menu, and I intend to eat them all. Found Danny's Celtic Pub by accident while picking up a cake at Moonlight Bakery. Brought our small dog and sat on the patio. We were the only people on the patio but Joe came out with menus had recommendations for drinks. Jane order the Fish & Chips and I had the Seafood Basket to go with the Jameson Green Tea's. Danny's has excellent pub food and great drinks, everything was reasonably priced and the service Joe provided was very good. We will be back. read more

I want to update this review after a few more visits. They added lights to the dart boards and they are righteous boards now. Music nights are really fun. The house music is via jukebox, I believe that depends on whatever yahoos are there. Friday fish and chips deal is $5.99 for a large filet, fries and slaw. The food here is inconsistent. But the fish is usual consistently superior to other places. The slaw is not worth the effort to chew it. If you are a fan if Shepard's Pie, roll the dice and see if the version of the day is good. It was seriously inedible last visit. I think they overloaded it with beef granuals so it was super salty and just funky. It's then only thing I've had that was bad. Overall, I am sticking with 3 stars because of the food quality across the menu. They have some detail and consistency issues from one shift to the next. I will continue to visit and stick to their kitchen strengths, hope for music night to watch the grannies sing. read more

It's been 4 years since my last review, so ] thought I'd update, especially after having been away at college for a few years and Houston for a year. My rating still stands, mainly because it has the same cheers feel to it and offers grand Irish cuisine. My favorite meals to have here are the Shepherd's Pie, Bangers Mash, and Fish and Chips. Pair Fish and Chips with Harp lager. The bartenders are still friendly and sociable, and they look out for their patrons as well. Now, this place doesn't do karaoke anymore, but they do trivia on Tuesdays and Thursdays; and of course that is amazing fun. I never win, but hey, the fun is in playing. The regulars here are fun to talk to, usually friendly and sociable. My first night back in town, and a regular bought me a drink. The wifi is good as well, which lets me get some work done if need be. Honestly, you can't go wrong here. Friendly atmosphere, good food, good drinks; honestly it's only one of the two bars I go to now and then. read more
