Twisted Root is my boyfriend's and my favorite burger place, and we have visited a lot of local favorite "best burgers in town" joints. When we lived further South closer to I-30, we would visit the Twisted Root by UT Arlington. Now that we live close to this location, it's hard to stay away! The food is so overwhelmingly tasty, filling, and a perfect mix of flavors. My favorite burger is The Westerner, which has crispy onion rings, pepperjack, and japaleños. He likes The Ranch Hand. There are all kinds of styles of topping combinations with various seldom used cheeses, all with silly names. Other cool touches as far as food goes are the pickel bar, trendy beer brands on ice when you walk up to order, and the best root beer ever. And fried pickels, hot dogs, and a bar. And black bean burgers and such for vegetarians with game meat options (including bison and ostrich among others) for the adventurous non-veggies. As far as this location goes, it once was a 7-11, so there is a more intimate feel than UTA. You would never guess it was a 7-11, but check out the glass near the handles at the front door. The patio feels like outdoor burger places in Austin with picnic tables and little white rock gravel, and overall there is a fresh and trendy Austin feel without trying very hard. It is a young atmosphere without chain restaurant gimmicks. Having said that, there is alcohol and not the squeakiest of clean music choices, so take that into consideration before bringing youngins. There are plenty of families who visit, but I tend to see them sit outside. You will have to come and judge for yourself. It is a burger joint with its own personality. If you have never been to a Twisted Root, start here- very good service and delicious meals. P.S. The women's restroom is dedicated to awesomeness, and the most fun part is how your order is called! Had their burger today and I have to say not bad But I was expecting a little better. I just thought it was a little dry and over priced. Im pretty sure ill eat their again but my first burger there was just ok. I would take burger street or five guys over them any day but will see what happens next time?hopefully this was just because they just opened. Well we gave twisted root a little over a year or two to settle down and we still ended up coming in on a week night that it was still crowded!!! Beef hot dogs!!! Came in expecting my husband to get a burger and he came back saying he ordered a hot dog. Made me giggle. The food was good and had no real complaints to quality. The food was good and worth having again, though I don't think either one of us went beyond any sort of normal comfort zone for our first go around. What interaction with staff we had was positive, but it was very much restricted to ordering and picking up our food. We did see an employee going around asking how things were but we were skipped over. I will give the benefit of the doubt that he just didn't realize he hadn't asked us because I did sit down with my son while my husband got in line to order, so I was there for an extra 15 mins on my own that it took him to make it thru the line just to put in our order. On a busy night parking within their parking lot can be next to impossible, and I'm leery of parking in the lots next to the restaurant in case they have a tow policy. We will for sure be giving twisted root a few more shots before making any final rulings and to try some of their more unique options to see if they will become that go to stop for us. The sheer fact that they serve beef hot dogs is a positive that my husband will be back. Yet with as many burger options in this area, a place has to knock me out of the park to gain my 100 % every time I want one I will come here loyalty.They are doing good so far but have not hit that home run with me quite yet. read more

So this was my 4th time at a TR and I can say with great confidence this place is overhyped, overpriced and underwhelming. My mom and I wanted to grab a bite before heading home and i suggested TR. Like I said I've been to TR locations a few times and though I was never blown away I thought it was good. This go around I opted to build my own burger, I got a beef burger with american cheese, bacon, mushrooms and fried onions strings with a side of fries and my mom built her own turkey burger. Everything looked very good when it came out and it was all fresh, but sadly it was severely lackluster. My beef was unseasoned, greasy and I bit into a few pieces of gristle while eating it. When I got to the second part of my burger I basically ate the bacon and onions strings and left the beef alone. My mom had a similar experience with her food, she wasn't impressed and she thought the texture of the turkey was off. The fries were on point but that was not enough to save the meal. After spending over 20 dollars for two average tasting burgers, I left saying to myself I'm never coming back. I don't recommend this place. read more

This Bedford location is brand new and like a new born baby you have to get through some annoyance to enjoy what it really is. Want to find a parking spot? TOO BAD! I have never seen any place around this area that stays as busy as Twisted Root does. It also doesn't help that there are very few spots in the lot and people will block everyone while their blinker is on praying for someone to back out. I actually left this location twice out of parking frustration, its kind of an issue. Eventually I just settled on parking near the bank to the East of TR and walked up the side stairs. I've been to other Twisted Root locations so I know what to expect but the service here is considerably more slow. Maybe this is a growing pains thing but the wait can get as annoying as Kirk Cameron is now. Speaking of annoying, it seems like this location is trying too hard to capture the "personality" of the other spots with really cheesy and eye-roll inducing bumper stickers randomly place. Maybe my cynicism is getting the best of me but it felt really cheesy. The burgers have a ton of different options with any type of wild game patties imaginable for the steep price of $3 extra...you know for that safari burger feeling. The price overall can seem a bit high but its on par with other high end burger places, but maybe a bit high for the area. Breakdown: + Decor was interesting + Spacious interior with plenty of seating options + Fun atmosphere + Varied menu with a lot of interesting options - Burger patties are a bit dry, even when rare - Forced "personality" - Parking nightmare - Long lines and wait Overall: This place could really benefit from experience and more pro-active management to get things more streamlined, because the time and parking issues are big negatives. However, it is fun to go and all ages can have a fun experience at a burger place which really sets Twisted Root apart. Great family place and even when we do no carbs all the burger in a Bowls are fantastic!! Love the appetizer they will do one with a little of everything onion rings pickles fries sweet potato fires so good. All the dressings are fresh. watermelon tea is great. Twisted Root was the new place in town so we figured we'd give it a shot. $26 for 2 burgers, 2 orders of fries and 2 drinks. The place was dirty, hot and overly noisy. Parking? Forget about it - there is none. The burgers that we had were OK (not horrible tasting - but nothing special at all.) The burger sides were dry and lifeless. The lettuce was warm. limp and browning from sitting in a buffet server on the counter. The onions were dried out from sitting out. If you're looking for some weird burger combinations with game/venison meats then this might be the place to go. If you're looking for a good ole' burger and some fries or rings (at a decent price) keep driving on down to Whataburger or In-and-Out. Been here a few times, but was compelled to write a review today. Went there for lunch earlier with a friend and saw that they offer different meats on different days of the week like elk, boar, gator, etc. Today's special meat was elk so I decided to give it a go and chose the All American with a side of fries. If you order without telling them how you want the meat cooked, it'll be medium well by default. Well I got my order expecting a medium well burger, but it was definitely medium rare. Bright pink on the inside and I very much did not prefer it. I told one of the employees there and he was very quick to have the cooks make me a new burger. Within a few minutes, I had a new burger in front of me, but the problem was that it was worse than the one before. This new burger had blood dripping out of the meat. Really messed up my appetite and I just wanted a refund. I was really unhappy for a bit, but then the manager named Graham came by and talked to me. He apologized on behalf of the restaurant, gave me a refund, and made everything better on top of that. He was very nice and knows how to treat people when there is an issue. If it wasn't for Graham, I probably wouldn't have come back, but thanks to him being a great guy and a great manager, I will definitely be back. Oh and as far as their regular burgers and food goes, I love it. Their fries were on point and I'm a HUGE pickle lover so I love the fact that they have buckets of 5 different pickle styles you can try. Score! read more

My wife and I finally decided to try Twisted Root Burger. To keep the review short and sweet. It was a good burger that was a little over priced. We both had regular burgers, fries and soft drinks. The bill a little over $20. The burger was definitely better than most fast food places. We enjoyed the BBQ sauce and Chipotle Ketchup with our fries and burger. They also offer burgers with: Emu, Alligator, and string of other varieties. We'll probably go back and recommend people to try it. read more

Different, and good. The burger meat options, the quirky order system, the decor, the service, the personnel: all were great. Food was pretty good. Had just a basic burger, as I am a purist, and it was just right. Gristle was typical for a burger place. Fries were great, if a bit small. Seasonings were excellent, and the options for spicy ketchup and such at the tables made for a nice bonus. All in all good stuff. OK so I work in downtown Dallas and I normally go to the Twisted Root there, but my parents were here for Easter weekend and we tried this new location out because it was close to the house. I LOVE that they have games outside on the patio and I am definately planning on coming back without the parents for a night of beer and games. The burgers are of course really great, this time I ordered the Verde Burger because I have a crazy passion for green chiles and it was pretty good, but the bread was very soggy and just because I personally hate a soggy burger I won't get it again and I'll stick to the western one that I really LOVE. You have to try their apple lemonade it is great, and they also have PBR on draft so I will be back very soon. Their shakes are awesome too, my little boy got the Hersheys chocolate shake, and I got the Banana + Baileys. Both were out of this world, thick and creamy goodness. Fries! Yes get the fries! They are hand cut like my grandma is back there making the fresh. Omg so tasty! Their sodas on tap are great for my kids but the pickle area is my favorite! Twisted Root makes a consistently decent burger with plenty of variety across all of their locations. My qualm with TR is that a burger with whatever your fixings, fries/onion rings and a soda can run close to $15. That's too much for a burger place in my admittedly tightwad-ish opinion. That said, the burgers aren't bad, they have their home made root beers and house flavored pickles. I am a big fan of hamburgers and this place has it going on! They have a plethora of different flavored burgers to meet any taste. The sweet potato chips are AH-MAZING and the service is fast and friendly. I've made 3 visits to this location in less than 2 weeks so that should tell ya something! I've had a custom burger, french fries, a hot dog dressed up like their Freshman burger (at the suggestion of our server), fried green beans (also at the suggestion of our server) and a buffalo burger as the Spicy Goat. All perfect! During our first visit, my partner in crime and I had our own burgers and I couldn't even finish mine since they serve hefty portions. I am new to Texas and I'm always looking for a local spot to eat. I absolutely love a good burger and Twisted Root is the best I've found. If you love local food, great burgers with great atmosphere then look no further. Twister Root does an amazing job of putting a great twist on simple food. I typically make my own burger but they have some incredible options to hit each of your taste buds. Not only do they make an incredible burger but their fried pickles are an ABSOLUTE MUST. Everyone hates waiting for their food once they place their order and Twisted Root recognizes that. They have created a pickle bar (yes a pickle bar) with different flavors to enjoy while you watch the game on tv. Once your order is ready they make you feel like your favorite celebrity. I had the Wagu and I could not have been more disappointed. Grease and more grease is what made this burger bland, tasteless and so much grease I could not taste the "premium" beef. I know everyone thinks their burger joint is the best, but this place is nothing special...IF you are there for the food. Lunch on a Monday and the service is just fine in fact the manager on duty came to us a few times to see if we needed anything so kudos for the service. clean tables, plenty of grease sopping napkins available as well as numerous condiments and pickles plus serve yourself fountain drinks. Fried carrots and green beans are once again covered in grease. I get it I did not eat there for the salad selection, of which they have a nice variety, but when I order a $12.00 burger I want it to taste better than the In and Out right? OK, so I will try to be nice here. First, I thought I would change it up a bit so I ordered the foot-long hot dog. Sounded better than a burger for some reason! I went in with two co-workers, they ordered burgers and such. While I was ordering I asked if I could get 'standard' condiments on my $6.00 hot dog to which I was told no. I simply wanted diced onions, diced tomatoes, relish... nope, not available. I was told I could put a few pickles on the dog (from the jars by the counter), ketchup and mustard was on the table. I was just a little bit shocked by this, but stayed with the order anyway. I also ordered fried onion straws. This is where it turned from bad to worse. I got the dog, dressed it up the best I could, it wasn't all that bad, the meat had a great flavor but the dog as a whole was lacking the basic hot dog toppings. It was the onion straws that had a problem. I took one bite, had to spit them out for the amount of salt/seasoning they had on them. I took them back to the counter and talked to a manager who didn't taste them, but replaced my order with unsalted fries. My co-workers were almost finished with their lunches before my fries finally arrived. I had to go back to the counter to remind them of my order, they apologized of course, but it still took a full five minutes to get them. Bottom line, I realize this is a new location and they have some adjusting to do, but there is no reason for the delays and poor food prep. I agree with most of the comments, the parking is dismal, the lines long with a single register, poor seating, etc. Will I return? Well, for a hot dog, fries and a drink to ring in at almost $12 I don't think so. Sorry. Oh, one last thing. The table next to me ordered a Root Beer Float, $3.99. She received a drink glass with a couple of inches of soft serve ice cream. When she asked what she was supposed to do with it she was told to go to the fountain and add some Twisted Root Beer to the glass. She replied, for $3.99 I get a little ice cream and make my own with their root beer? Indeed. Anyways... That's it for now. They weren't very busy which was good because they usually have the line out the door. 2 cheddar bacon burgers fried pickles onion straws 1 drink 1 water Total: Over $25.00 I thought that was a lot. Cashier was awesome! Can't remember her name. Like the patio. Décor was cool. The place could use someone going through with a small broom and dustpan. I found the place kind of messy. I ordered mine medium and it was well done and my friend's was cooked the same even though he didn't request a preference. So, when this place finally opened in our area I was psyched- beyond psyched. And the food was a-mazing (even better than the Original location in Dallas) This was my hot spot- and I even acted as a "supplier" and to my friends to get their burger fix. Unfortunately, the last few times we've gone the quality isn't quite up to par. We don't know if it's a new cook- or we just went at bad times but we were a little disappointed. And when you pay an outrageous price for a fancy burger- well you want a fancy burger...you want a super fancy burger. While the food is local, and of better quality ingredients it still needs to be cooked right and for a long time it was. Hopefully they will get their act together because It's really hate to break up with one of my favorite burger joints! Why this place has crappy reviews is beyond me. It's fantastic!!!! Gourmet rootbeer is amazing. Pumpkin spice rootbeer? Yes please. This place has become mine and my moms go to lunch place. Burgers aren't over seasoned (my biggest pet peeve) so you can enjoy the flavors of what you have on it, great variety of game meat (but be sure to ask them what's in season) and AMAZING turkey burgers. Pretty good burger. The fries are just ok. The fried pickles were awful: thick cut, tasteless batter with no crunch, they were no different than eating pickle slices. I had to pay for some fries and just leave the pickles. Stick with the fries or onion strings. Grumps, for comparison, has terrific fried pickles: thin sliced, crunchy and flavorful batter. Oh, and why are they so stingy with tomatoes? They make a point of you having to specifically ask for them, and they only give you one, and the one they give you is so small that you only get to taste tomato when you get to the center of the burger. When you ask for more, they act like its an odd request. They've done this on every visit. They throw lettuce and onions at you even if you tell them you don't want them, but tomatoes?
